I'm really looking forward to this game, I just hope that the combat isn't too tedious and the online mode is good.

My Gate is going to be open pretty much all day, but I would really like to go to someone else's town. I've added everyone on the FC thread, so if you're up for it drop by my town!

My friend code is up now, so if anybody wants to visit my town or have me visit let me know. I'm really enjoying fishing. My favourite villager so far is Mac.

My brothers and I got this for Christmas! I've never played an animal crossing before, but my brothers and I are having a good time with it so far. There has already been a mad scramble for the equipment available in Nook's store which resulted in my middle brother not getting anything, while my youngest bro landed the bug net and shovel and I scooped up the fishing rod and watering can. Anyways, I'll put up my FC soon, even though my town hasn't been customized too much... at any rate, I'm enjoying it and I'm pretty sure I'm going to be addicted to it pretty quickly.

I think you guys, and especially broodwars, have missed the point almost completely. First of all, sales figures are NOT an empirical measurement for the quality of the title. If anything, Ratchet and Clank is the big fish in the small pond, so let's throw it in a bigger pond. As long as we are talking about gaming experience as the measure of quality and not the sales figures, there is no reason we can't compare cross consoles. So what contemporary platformer was better than mario sunshine? The games broodwars mentioned just don't stack up. Compared to Mario 64, even the Rare games don't stack up, let alone the games on the playstation.

Mario is an symbol of established quality. One can be fairly certain that any new mario title will be a AAA affair. Sony does not have a franchise like this. The closest I can think of is God of War (and I have my own reservations about that franchise). The best Sony has been able to do is produce titles that are good enough to invoke interest in the sequel.

I think that Uncle Bob is the closest to hitting the nail on the head here. Financially, I suppose that the biggest factor was that Nintendo made a profit on every console sold, but what justified Nintendo's existence as a company, especially to fans, is that they provided a unique experience that couldn't be found on any of the other consoles. Like UB said, even if all the other third parties left, the cube still had the best dev in the business making games for it, Nintendo themselves. Sony does not have that kind of an identity. The 360 and PS3 both have the same types of games, and most of the good ones are for both platforms. The PS3 is losing because a good portion of it's best games are playable on the much cheaper 360, and the ones that aren't are outweighed by similar titles... and more of them.

The real questions is why should Sony fans even care? I mean why should they "stick it out"? As a Nintendo fan I wasn't happy about the cube coming in last, but I knew why I was sticking with it, the games. Sony just doesn't have that going for them, and their fans can get the same experiences, if not a better experience of the same type on the 360.

I this broke my iTunes.

QFT

Pikmin was disturbing on so many levels, the world was just so organic that you actually cared about what happened to your pikmin and the stuff in the level. The sound that pikmin make when drowning is haunting. Majora's Mask was creepy. The music that you get from the dancing mask is creepy, also every time you put on a transforming mask is creepy. From Twilight Princess the part where ganon breaks zant's neck or whatever the hell it is that happens at that scene. I'll have to give it more thought, but I know there are more creepy gaming moments.

pap, I still have buster busts loose and the football level was awesome. All of the dash levels were pretty fun. I remember that you couldn't go to the last level unless you played the harder difficulty, these were kids games back then.

I don't think that Nintendo's main franchises have been neutered, but there has been a definite change to many of them.

Twilight Princess: Probably the easiest Zelda game to date. The bosses were all push overs, the temples were for the most part straight forward, and puzzles were self contained and simple.

Metroid Prime 3: environments were linear and lacked the interconnectivity of the previous games. The difficulty was still there, but not quite to the levels of the previous games (after rundas, i think things petered out for the most part.) Echoes was really quite hard though, so I don't begrudge corruption for not going there.

Mario Galaxy: Easy. Sure the last twenty stars you get are tougher. but the bosses and levels are straight forward and linear. I always wanted to explore but never really got to. I felt like I had seen the whole level after getting the stars there.

I don't see any of these changes as being only because of the new casual market, games getting easier has been a trend for quite some time now. Thankfully all of Nintendo's games are saved from this by exhibiting stellar game play. Galaxy and TP are games that deliver genuinely fun experiences even if they don't challenge me as much as their former incarnations. Same with Metroid, but it remains challenging, my gripe with corruption had more to do with it's linearity, but it still remains one of my favourite games.

TalkBack / Re: December 5th WiFi Night Recap
« on: December 07, 2008, 02:19:55 AM »
The wifi night was good fun, but it would have been cool if we had some way to rotate through the players. I know that there were nearly a dozen people online at the same time as me but I only played three of them. I would have liked to have seen more of the people in matches. Also, I enjoy 1vs1 duels, so the opportunity to set up some of those would have been cool too. I guess a little bit of organization would go a long way, but it was great to see so many people involved.

Thanks to Maxi, Pro and Traag for some good games. My brother and I had a good time. I was diddy and he was ganon or ness for a bit at the start. I told him to change from ness, who is actually his better character because he kept dying when lag messed up his pk thunder recovery. good time though.

ps. I hate fighting in luigi's mansion haha.

TalkBack / Re: FEATURE: The Greening (or Not) of the Wii Software Library
« on: November 13, 2008, 02:52:23 AM »
Grass is greener - it felt like the two games that were mentioned were exceptions and not nearly the norm. I have to admit that I am pretty excited for monster hunter, but both monster hunter and fatal frame aren't really well known in north america, and to me, rail shooters are more of an icing on the cake thing. Even given this though, I feel that kairon showed that things are better than they were on the gamecube. (But this doesn't mean that things are better than on other systems)

Could be greener - I almost felt like this section was pandering to forum members who love to talk about games that very few people have played. I'm not saying that these are bad games, but this is not the reason that most people who own a wii feel like they are being ripped off by third parties. Ian hit the nail on the head here, we get umbrella chronicles, not RE5, we get soul caliber legends, not SC4, not to mention the fact that there wasn't a single mention of the lack of quality fps's on the wii. I know that the conduit is coming soon and I really enjoyed umbrella chronicles, but the conduit is ONE fps and UC is not a AAA capcom effort. The point is that the grass could be greener because we still aren't getting the AAA efforts from third parties. None of the games mentioned in this section demonstrated this. I also realize that Nick was trying to pick games that would benefit from wii controls, but if this is the case then where are the first person shooters?

I was thinking about picking this game up recently, and I have two questions.

First to Jonny, the review mentions that you felt that some of the voice actors were a little off, i'm just curious as to which characters you liked and which you didn't. I saw a video with Cecil and Kain in it, and i'm not too sure how I feel about Cecil's voice

To TYP, just because i'm nosey, I was wondering if you went to the villiage of summons and got leviathan, also if you managed to get bahamut?

I love paranoid android, that song is epic and there is some freak stuff going on with the time signature during the middle part. Easily one of the most fun songs to play on guitar.
