TalkBack / Re: Metroid Dread Announced, Launching October 8
« on: June 15, 2021, 09:36:45 PM »
I liked Mirror of Fate. 🤷‍♀️ It isn’t better than IGA’s games; it’s fine for what it is.

I also thought the “melee garbage” from Other M was like the best part of that game because the rest of it sure was nothing to write home about. In any case, Samus Returns was really good. It is weirdly hard in the beginning because you practically have to use Melee Counter to advance so you have to get in the mindset that it’s a different Metroid in that regard. The new final boss was LOL.

There’s always going to be part of me that wishes the entire main series stayed sprite-based and closer gameplay-wise to the Super Metroid template that Fusion and Zero Mission followed before moving on to 2.5D especially since Dread is meant to end the Samus/Metroid arc. Not a big deal though.

Maybe. 🤷‍♀️ Nintendo is running out of Wii U games to remaster so it’s prime time to dip into the 3DS well.

If anything, I’m surprised Miitopia got a remaster before Samus Returns. Was anyone clamoring for Miitopia of all games? Am I so out of touch? No, it’s the children who are wrong.

Not loving how this gane looks, but OK. I'm in.
Yep. I would’ve preferred sprites, but I never thought we would get that if Nintendo ever blew the dust off 2D Metroid.

Oh and when the direct said "we're still working on Metroid Prime 4 but this is something else" I was expecting some groan-inducing Federation Force kind of project.  Nope!  Nintendo actually delivered literally the only thing that wouldn't get backlash from fans.
I expected Samus Returns HD. While I still think that happens, it would be in Nintendo’s best interest to release it after Metroid Dread so as not to “steal” sales from the new game.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Games you DON'T want to see come out

At my old age, I feel like I can very easily ignore a game I don’t want or need at the moment. Just because I don’t want something doesn’t mean someone else feels the same way. I wouldn’t want to take that away from someone else.

To play along, most Nintendo IPs from a plot perspective, or Metroid and Zelda. I live with the fact that Nintendo’s games do not exist to tell good stories though some do in spite of Nintendo. Just DON’T make me sit through a bad one. Nintendo is at its best when it sets the stage then gets out of the way. Even Breath of the Wild had too many cutscenes.

Also, remakes of good games. Why do companies remake good games? They’re already good. Remake the bad ones, and make them good.

Anything y'all are excited about?
Metroid Dread. End of list.

I have no need for Game & Watch: The Legend of Zelda. However, I’ll take eight because it’s neat. Not particularly excited about it, if that makes sense. I own multiple versions of each of those games.

The sequel to Breath of the Wild is too far away for me to care about right now.

Hello, friends. Please take a moment to listen to this song I wrote:

🎶 GET DONOVAN MITCHELL OUT OF THIS GAME BEFORE HE HURTS HIMSELF. ****. 🎵

Thank you.

Also, WTF was that last possession, Sixers?

Is this the darkest timeline?

You absolutely need the dock because it doubles as a pen holder. Jebus, Kairon, it’s as if you have no concept of true value.

If the dock is like $20, I can probably talk myself into it. Either way, I’m ready for the Playdate. It’s like buying an entire console for extended WarioWare games.

All the games will now be released in a digital form on the PC storefront Itch.io about six months after the initial Switch physical game releases. The initial preorder window for the exclusive Switch Physical version of the games will also be extended from four weeks to six. As originally planned, Super Rare Games plans to print as many Switch copies of these titles as they receive orders for.
Wow, that’s one hell of an about-face.

I remember reading the initial announcement and thinking it was kind of shiesty. At the same time, I probably won’t care about any of these games even though it’s the principle of the matter. I’m glad Super Rare Games reconsidered. Games shouldn’t have such limited and exclusive availability (ignore the $180 I’m throwing at Panic for the Playdate).

2021 NBA MVP Nikola Jokić was ejected in the third quarter of an elimination game. May we finally put to rest the bad and stale “Silver put the call in” joke. Never in a million years would the league MVP get tossed in a winnable elimination game for a Flagrant Foul of all things in a rigged league.

The Suns were already ahead of the Jazz/Clippers series in terms of games played and now they might have like a week off. I think the NBA likes to start the conference finals around the same time which might give the Suns even more days off because the Nets lost so that series is now tied (even if the Sixers advance, everyone would have to wait for Nets/Bucks to finish). All that down time can hurt teams. You have to hope you shake off the rust early in Game 1.

EDIT 1: Right now, Suns vs. Nuggets is a six point game with like 3:30 to go.

EDIT 2: Suns advance.

I need the Jazz to take care of business. Suns vs. Jazz would be a good series. Hopefully, Donovan Mitchell’s ankle is fine (seems like he’ll play in Game 4) and Mike Conley returns soon.

I mean, I’ll watch it, but my collective disappointment in Season 4 leaves me less excited. Like I can wait for this. I’ll probably forget it exists then maybe I’ll get hyped once a trailer is released. How do they drop the ball so entirely? Not nearly Game of Thrones bad. The end of Trevor’s arc felt like a thing that merely happened.

Monsters at Work | Official Trailer | Disney+

Just hoping for a Boo cameo.

Casting Lance Reddick as Wesker seems like a waste of Lance Reddick. I don’t know what they’re planning with this show, but if they follow the games at all, I’d rather they cast anyone else to get murder-death-killed, and give Riddick an original role to sink his teeth into.

Isn't Bayo 1 and 2 on Switch or was that the Wii U in a dual pack?
They’re on Switch. If you get the physical version, Bayonetta 1 is a download code. On Wii U, each game is on a separate disc.

Also didn't Clover Studio turn into Platinum games?  Are we counting Viewtiful Joe, VJ2, VJ:Red Hot Rumble Double Trouble. Also Okami and God Hand under the Platinum Games umbrella?
A few key people from Clover Studio founded SEEDS Inc. which merged with another company to form PlatinumGames. Okami and God Hand were both developed by Clover Studio. I thought Bayonetta was PlatinumGames’ first release. Apparently, it was Mad World.

Loki Episode 1 was excellent. I really like how they used stock footage in a pretty interesting way to update 2012 Loki with 2018 Loki's character development. Stellar acting from Tom Hiddleston as he forwards through his file. EDIT: Owen Wilson is good as Agent Mobius as well. I wanted to give credit where credit is due. He has good screen chemistry with Hiddleston.

I have a ton of questions. I presume the next five episodes will answer most of them. I am a little disappointed by how short this show is especially given how good it is so far.

And obviously, another Time Variant Loki messing with the timeline is clearly misdirection. If we keep guessing Mephisto, we'll get it right eventually.

I saw the final play of Jazz vs. Clippers on The YouTube. Woof. Why the heck would they pass to the corner? Y’all are going to force Marcus Morris to be the hero and facilitated that by *checks notes* trapping him between Rudy Gobert, the last person you want defending the ball in this situation, and the baseline? Gobert’s deficiency at guarding on the perimeter is nullified by the fact that the Clippers need a three-pointer to tie (and Morris isn’t quick anyway). He just needed to be tall out there and pressure the ball. Not that I’m upset with the result; it’s just a little baffling. Morris should have passed it back out as I’d rather have Leonard shoot over Ingles. I guess in the heat of the moment, he felt there wasn’t enough time (there was).

247
I didn’t get to watch the games. I was checking the box score and was irrationally upset with the Jazz’s first quarter performance. As for the final result, just imagine I edited the Sickos meme again.

Regarding the Sixers game, three-peat Danny Green dream is still alive.

TIL: The NBA gave fans a single cumulative vote for MVP. They used it on Derrick Rose.

If anything, I’m surprised the vote didn’t go to Hoopy McHoopface.

(BTW, Nikola Jokic won MVP)

Utah Jazz rule PG Mike Conley out for Game 1 vs. LA Clippers with hamstring strain

Looks like James Harden Mike Conley faked another hamstring injury and has been ruled out for the rest of the game Game 1. What a lazy **** for load managing in the middle of the playoffs.

The most recent release from Platinum on a Nintendo system is 2019's Astral Chain for Switch. The game was well received and commercially successful. Why aren't you playing it right now?
Waiting for a sale to $40.

So which games have you played? What did you like about them? Are you looking forward to Bayonetta 3? What is the deal with Sol Cresta?
1. Madworld, Bayonetta 1 and 2, The Wonderful 101, and one level of Star Fox Zero (did not play Guard). I haven’t finished any of them.

2. They’re hilariously over-the-top. The controls are mostly tight (SFZ perhaps notwithstanding). Bayonetta is hilarious if it’s a parody of Sexy Video Game Girls®. Someone here once tried to pass the character off as feminist and empowering which might actually be funnier.

3. Yes.

4. I’ll have to google Sol Cresta. EDIT: I wiped this from memory as I’ve never been good at these types of games. PlatinumGames announced the game on April Fools day. Do they “celebrate” that in Japan? Back to Google for me.
