Bit shift the ASCII codes left one to decode the message.

...now I want to write a program that would do that to see what would happen.

You see?  Now you're yelling at me and making fun of my avatar for no reason.

Oh wait, it was "What's 'frah-gee-lee' mean?" in Rugrats.  Or maybe Rocko or something, but I think it was Rugrats.

80
I like waffles.

81
Regardless of whether your have a good reason to or not, you do yell at people a lot.  That's all I'm saying. :3

82
That and GP just kinda likes yelling at people in general.

83
Can Brawl be played between regions?  If so wouldn't making changes to the European version break its online compatibility with other versions?

I don't know... I don't like the idea of making the graphics "similar" to the original. I would love to see more modern 2D games, but with enhancements. Sprites could look so good nowadays with the increase of available display colors and resolution, so why not use it?

It costs a lot more to create art in high resolution and high bit depth (artists of that calibur need to be paid more and more man hours are required).
And Mega Man is somehow not deserving of that expense?

Is it just me or is that jacket inventory screen really disorienting?  I d'know about y'all, but my head's centered on my torso, not floating somewhere off to the left of my shoulder.

I'm all for 2D, but I'd prefer new 16-bit style games over 8-bit ones.

Needs more Bomberman.

We need a Bow-and-arrow FPS then. It'd be awesome. That opens up the medieval ages, or hunting cultures. Maybe even... a game about a feudal Samurai who specializes in the Bow?
I could go for that.

First person shooters don't have to be about historical wars.  They can be about made up wars.  Or they don't even have to be about wars.  Make a sci-fi shooter that doesn't involve a generic space marine, like Deus Ex.  Or do something weird like Turok.  The first Turok, that is.  Not the latest stupid generic space marine re-envisioning.

« on: June 26, 2008, 08:01:26 AM »
Gyrostarr isn't very good as a "high score" game.  To maximize your score you have to play through all 50 levels in one sitting because the game only keeps track of the highest level you've gotten to, not your actual progress.  The score multiplier system also isn't very interesting, as avoiding getting hit doesn't introduce any kind of risk/reward setup and is something that you kind of have to do anyway just to stay alive.  The game's length is so long that it isn't really conducive to replaying for the sake of achieving a better score, either.  Considering that every level (at least the 24 that I've played through so far) is practically the same, it might've been better to just shorten the game and further emphasize the high score bit.

Besides that, it is a reasonably fun game.  It has a bunch of little flaws that really add up for me, though.  I think an 8 is too generous, personally.

Just beat level 24.  The purple enemies it introduces are a pain, but I still managed to get through it on my first try.

I d'know if the framerate or art design is more to blame, but it's kind of hard to keep track of everything on the screen.  The energy blobs in particular blend in easily with your shots or the lights on the edges of the track or the ripples in the enemy spawn gate at the edge of the track.  Also the camera is really jerky in the faster areas.  It would have benefited greatly from a rubber band sort of effect that basically every decent camera system ever has implemented.

I think it would be reasonable to say that different fans want different things.

94
I'd prefer a new Kirby game that's actually on par with Super Star than just a rehash. :/

I only played through the first few levels this morning before bed.  It's kind of annoying how you can shoot pickups into the distance and apparently off the track when attempting to pick them up. :/

I had to delete the "save" data for the Nintendo and internet channels to make room for it.  I only have 3 blocks left now. ):

That makes absolutely no sense...  I guess I'll try the remote sideways, but the classic controller would be a lot more comfortable. :/

Is there a way to make the d-pad on the classic controller work in Gyrostarr?  It seems like only the joystick works, which is pretty stupid...

Since my end boss month avatar seems to have randomly disappeared, I guess I'll go ahead and join Bomberman Month early.
