I tried playing the game again.  Death kept screaming at me and swarming me with micro-deaths.  I got past the first few Deaths, but one of the later ones kept killing me.  Then I got tired of starting over from the very bottom of the level over and over again and cried.

What do the meat hammers that the harp turns enemies into do?

Anyone know what the SNES button mapping is for the 'Cube controller?  I wanna know if SMW'll be playable with a hori pad.

In part though, I must agree, witholding gameplay information seems a little backwards to me. Maybe Nintendo knows something that every other game developer doesn't, who knows.

I have no problem with the "easy to play, difficult to master" concept.  But I was playing round after round in the first training minigame, hitting almost every ball out of the court and having no idea what I was doing wrong.  I somehow fared slightly better when I played a few actual games against the computer, but I was still hitting plenty out of the court, unless I was playing the net.  The baseball training at least tells you when you swing too early or too late (which I always overcompensate for).

IceCold: I'm even worse at sports than I am at video games.

I couldn't figure out how to control the ball at all in tennis.  It'd be nice if the training minigames gave you more info than just "KEEP THE BALL IN THE COURT."

I could never get into Kid Icarus.  I'd start scaling the first level, die partway up, try again a few times, then get bored and give up.  It's sad; I really would like to see what the game's actually like. ):

Uh, doesn't the fact that 'Cube controllers can be used in the VC make it pretty obvious that Wii software can use them?

Anyway, the Wii controls actually looked pretty good in that video.  It'll be interesting to see how well it works in actual, fast-paced combat, though it's nice to know classic controls will be available as a failsafe.

I didn't expect it to dethrone any of the old games.  I expected it to be a fun throwback to the old games.  Not much new, lots of nostalgic references.  The developers themselves created this expectation, so I don't think it's unreasonable.  But comparisons to the older Mario games asside, the game is still just not very interesting.  Yeah, I would have preferred if it were 2D, and if Mario controlled more like the old games, and so on.  But it ultimately comes down to the level design just being simple, which I found excedingly boring.
