General Gaming / Re: The Starcraft mega thread

While I think Starcraft has good gameplay in general, I have a grudge against the franchise.  Because of the Zerg, it's doubtful we'll ever see the Tyranid race in a video game ever again (1000 Crazy Style Points to folks familiar with the Tyranids).

Whenever I see a Harvest Moon game in a best-selling list, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

I'd love to have a PSP, if only for Patapon and Star Wars: Battlefront.  Sadly, though, those two games don't warrant the purchase of a PSP.  Perhaps if I can ever find a used old model for cheap, I'll pick it up.

Speaking of which, is the PSP fairly comfortable to hold?  Never touched one.  I've seen them set up at kiosks, but only in the form of those older black models covered in greasy fingerprints spreading across the surface like jungle camouflage.  Public PSPs just look too nasty to touch, like a fixture in an truck stop restroom.

Am I the only nerd that's too riddled with grade school-induced neuroses to pick up this game?

Has anyone suggested a rodeo game yet?  Can't say I'd actually buy it, but it'd be interesting with motion controls.  Roping and staying glued to a bucking bull could be a lot of fun.  In situations where you failed a ride miserably, the viewpoint could shift abrupty to a pair of rodeo clowns with which you could distract the rampaging animal so that it wouldn't wound your rider and worsen his/her statistics.

I scoff at the notion that Crash was in "organic 3-D."  Playstation Crash was NOT 3-D.  The game ran on the same plane as Final Fight or Double Dragon, just pivoted one quarter-rotation clockwise.

One of the things I honestly miss about the good ol' days is that I never had to consider whether or not a game would offend me before I bought it.

I've never played this game, but I got it for my sister as a gift a few days ago, and spent a couple of hours watching her play it.  Considering the amount of time she's put into it, I can't help but feel that it's something very special.  There's an untapped audience out there subconciously begging for games with no real conflict in them.  Rarely will you encounter a game as wholly benevolent as this title.

I can't help but think it's odd that a month of good sales for the PS3 is enough to make a lot of analysts think the era of PS3 domination has begun.  Keep the dream alive!

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Eternal Darkness
« on: February 18, 2008, 10:06:36 AM »
Keep in mind that before Eternal Darkness, the Resident Evil control scheme was standard for survival horror games.  And everyone should agree that Eternal Darkness controls WAY better than Resident Evil 1-3.  Those proto-Resident Evils felt more like a really slow, awkward Rock 'n Roll Racing than an action/puzzle game.

I dunno.  The masses really don't seem to care about HD-DVD or Blu-Ray, and they probably won't for a while yet; it still feels kinda of niche.  Personally, I refuse to enter the HD dimension until movies of higher quality than Spider-man 3 become available for it.  It still seems like a bit of a stretch for the console wars to come down to which plays the *superior* version of Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Wasn't an exploding PSP a weapon in Ratchet and Clank?

I'd like a video game in which you play an amnesiac game developer.  That way, it'd make sense that you'd keep releasing games about amnesiacs, because you honestly can't remember doing it already.  Honestly, though, I'm really happy to see obscure RPGs like this make it to the Wii.  Just maybe we'll get a Lost Kingdoms sequel.

The Three Amigos.  If the Ghostbusters crew can reunite, why not Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Chevy Chase?

Think about it...after every level, how much health you recover depends on your performance in a campfire sing-a-long rhythm game.

I recently purchased your RockBand Stage Kit for the Xbox 360, but whenever I turn on the fog machine, all I get is a laugh track.  What gives?

Nintendo Gaming / RE:How much of your Wii library is 3rd party?
« on: February 07, 2008, 03:27:58 AM »
I own the following 3rd party Wii games:

Star Trek: Conquest
Godfather
Resident Evil 4
Raving Rabbids
Mario, Sonic, Olympics
MySims
Trauma Center

I have about as many 1st party titles, but I won't bother listing them since they're the pretty standard melange of Marios and Zeldas (plus Fire Emblem, which is possibly my favorite Nintendo franchise).  For me, the Nintendo/3rd party ratio is about what it's been since the NES days, ALTHOUGH the only Wii games out there that I want but don't own are both 3rd party (Puzzle Quest and Geometry Wars).  Actually, I can't find Puzzle Quest anywhere.

TalkBack / RE:EA Confirms Rock Band for Wii
« on: January 31, 2008, 09:16:20 PM »
Before I read this, I really had no idea that Rock Band even existed for the PS2.  You know, if someone has the cash to buy Rock Band for the PS2, they should really bite the bullet and spend just a little bit more for a Wii or a 360 Arcade.

Game Informer gave a pretty optimistic appraisal of this game's potential in their last issue.  Now, if they only to make it an FPS, Game Informer might award it Game of the Year (or, Wii Game of the Year, at least).  Personally, I'm looking forward to it with relish; a Pokemon-esque game that I can admit to playing in public is right up my alley.

OR Blast Processing.  No wonder the last mainline installment of the Sonic series skipped the Wii.  It just can't handle the speed!

While we're talking about old-school games...is it just me, or does Yoshi's Story STILL look pretty good?

On the subject of Hybrid Heaven, I remember being really impressed by the first production photos I ever saw of it in Nintendo Power.  Oddly enough, when the game was finally released, it was really blurry and foggy.  And, if I remember correctly, it wasn't just fog, but ORANGE fog.

I too dig the birdfolk.  I forgot her name, but it's too bad you aren't able to level up the crow lady you receive with Maurim and Tormod.  She was available for only a scant few levels.

I hate to go back and change my mind yet again, but my favorite character MIGHT BE Duke Oliver.  Recruiting him was perhaps the most surprising moment in any of the Fire Emblem games.  He's such an unpleasant, reprehensible fellow that I never would have expected to be able to recruit him.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Factor 5 working on a new Wii title
« on: January 17, 2008, 07:15:55 PM »
For the record, I'm not saying that Rolly's Kookie Kwest would be a bad move.  It WOULD be a predictable move, though.  Sort of like a new FPS for the 360.

Honestly, it's hard to believe Factor 5's going to make anything besides a flight sim.  If they can manage to find a way to combine flying with the villainous mewing of the Alley Cat King, they'll be in business.
