Set phasers for FUN!  I wish.

There are changes every single year to the Madden franchise, if you only take enough time to document them and do a little field study.  I fully expect Madden '15 to have sprouted opposable toes and milk glands.

Unless it was some kind of Goron-made flintlock rifle, giving Link a gun would be goofy (and even then, it's a stretch).  For anyone not put off by the thought of Sonic becoming an anthropomorphic hedgehog werewolf, riddle me this: would you find it silly if he was an anthropomorphic hedgehog werewolf vampire cyber elf?  With three descriptors down, he's already halfway there.  Remember back when Sonic was a little blue guy that saved baby animals from robots?

Again, I'm not savaging Sonic's newest outing, because for all I know it will be the greatest gaming extravaganza of all time.  Maybe the werewolf thing will be light-hearted and play to Sonic's strengths, like Mario sprouting a raccoon tail.

It's more like giving Shadow a gun.  Sonic doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt when it comes to goofy concepts.

I think it's so obvious that the answer is yes, why bother asking it?

Either my glasses are broken and are relaying the world in subtle shades of stupid, or I just read that Sonic can turn into a werewolf in this game.  Bleh, when Sonic does stuff like this, the whole world just shakes its head.  Seeing Sonic morph into a werewolf is like seeing Jethro Bodine sitting on a silk pillow and playing a sitar.

Dark Crusade is a necessity.  Even if you don't like Tau or Necrons (and why wouldn't you?), the single-player campaign is a blast.  Upgrading your commander is so addicting, I actually went through and beat the game with all the races (twice with the Orks and Necrons).  I'm boycotting Soulstorm, simply because it doesn't have Tyranids in it.

It does kind of have the Necron ceremonial headdress thing going on, but it's not as outwardly sinister as a Necron construct.  To me, it looks more "inspired by" than "ripping off."  But again, that's just me.

Speaking of which, have you ever tried Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War, bosshogx?  It's somewhat similar to StarCraft, with a heavy emphasis on controlling squads instead of individuals.  The units generally have a lot of character, and just listening to their chatter is quite enjoyable.  In particular, I love the voice acting of the Chaos Cultists and pretty much every Ork unit (especially the Mad Docs).  If you haven't tried it, it might be a nice diversion for you until StarCraft is released. :)

Actually, I still have it, though it's more for decoration than for playing.  There's a story behind it, actually: back in the day, I traded a kid my copy of DuckTales for his Shadowgate.  Right now, it's sandwiched between Bandai Golf: Challenge Pebble Links and a broken copy of Hydlide.  To be honest, I think the Shadowgate/Uninvited interface is for people more clever than myself.

And to think, I could be looking for Green Cheese on the moon with Unca Scrooge right now.

How different do you think this experience will to be playing, say, a Scratch 'N Win pulltab?

Okay, see, it's this kind of potential that prods me to own a DS instead of a PSP.  Well, that and slavish Nintendo devotion.  But mostly, it's all about the imagination and untapped things.

Personally, I thought Wind Waker was far less difficult than Twilight Princess.  Heck, I haven't even beaten TP yet, simply because I keep getting hopelessly lost in the overworld.  Galaxy was undoubtedly less diffucult than Sunshine, though; this is due largely to the fact that there are so many worlds to visit that it's quite simple to cherry-pick the first couple of easy stars from them.  Some of the comet stars are actually very difficult to obtain, bordering on frustrating.  Some of the purple coin levels make me want to pull my hair out, throw it on the ground, light it on fire, and say hurtful cuss words at the ashes.
and You beat Wind Waker?   I was lost on that Stupid Ocean, <Warning Snide Comment>thanks for killing an otherwise great game Nintendo, most of the time and never beat Wind Waker because it sapped all enjoyment out of the game.

Sure did.  Getting lost as sea just felt...I don't know, different from getting lost in TP, at least to me.  It's not that TP's overworld was as vast as that of WW, it's just that it was very intricate.  It takes me a really long time to reorient where I'm trying get exactly from most points in TP, and how exactly I'm supposed to get there.  Whereas in WW, it's pretty much just "Head South for a long time," in TP, it's "leap into the river, swim through the nook in the grotto, find the guy that owns the *travel minigame*, aim for the precipice, find a grass whistle, etc.," all to be able to find your way to the nearest bomb shop.  I suppose it's a matter of taste.  I wasn't put off by WW's copious sailing, but others may prefer TP's complex overworld, which at times is almost like a dungeon in and of itself.

It's true, there ARE too many FPS games on the 360.  I don't even LIKE shooters, but somehow I've wound up with BioShock and The Orange Box.  Shame on the 360 for enticing me with games based on Westerns and the Civil War, only to have them turn out to silly old FPSes.  FPS's.  Uh.  FPSi.  Whatever.

They also gave it a try in Raving Rabbids.  And man, was it tough.  Playing it was a lot like playing the puzzle box from Hellraiser, except instead of ripping you apart with chains, it just made you feel like an uncoordinated imbecile.

While the topic's still fresh, I'd like to say that I hope more computer RTS games will make the leap to console.  After playing games like Battle For Middle-Earth II and Comand & Conquer 3 on the 360, the lack of a mouse doesn't seem like too much of a hurdle anymore.  And if a game like Command & Conquer works great on the 360, just imagine how well it'd work on the Wii.

My problem with the PC as a gaming device is that controlling a person with a mouse and keyboard feels so unnatural to me, and that prevents me from really getting into it. It doesn't stop me from enjoying and loving 4X strategy (Civilization, Alpha Centauri), simulation games (SimCity, Railroad Tycoon), and Escape Velocity.

The main, and only, reason I prefer console games to PC games is that I generally get to flop down on the couch like a rotting Jack O' Lantern when I play on a console.

Table-top Warhammer is a lot of fun, but it's a serious drain on time and resources.  If you want to invest large sums of money in a portfolio of precious metals like lead and pewter, it's a perfect hobby.  The original WarCraft began its life as a Warhammer adaption, but the deal fell through and Blizzard called their new game WarCraft instead of Warhammer.  There exists a sci-fi version of Warhammer that most assuredly inspired StarCraft.

If $30 is too much for HOTD, then $60 is too much for the PS3 version of The Orange Box.  I do like the fact that magazines are complaining that $30 is too much for a video game, though.  Thank you, Nintendo.

"We can't do them justice," is Relic's official statement, I believe, but if they can do Necrons, they could do 'Nids.  They wouldn't be THAT difficult to reproduce in a game.  They'd have a central, upgradeable mega-hub, much like the Necron Monolith (except it'd be a Norn Queen, on loan from a ship).  For resources, you could elect to have a mobile synapse unit become immobile over a strategic location, thus simulating the Hive Mind effect while giving Tyranids a reason to capture locations.  Also, it'd be a nice effect if creatures like Ripper swarms gained a points value as they fought and killed, only to be returned to the Norn Queen to be harversted for resources.  It's not a perfect fix, but it'd work well for an RTS.  I do hope that Kairon's right about the Zerg not preempting the Tyranids' role in video games, because they're really an interesting piece of fiction with a lot of history behind them.

But anyway.  Starcraft!
