My guess is it was more of a sympathy vote because the game bombed so horribly they wanted people to just go out and buy the damn thing.  Now Okami is a good game and all, but I have a hard time believing the guys at IGN really feel it's the best game of the year.

My guess is there must have been a pretty heated debate on rather Zelda, Gears of War or Oblivion should win and when they couldn't come to an agreement on those, they decided to give to a game that was lesser known that they all generally liked and so Okami is what they all decided upon as a way to honor it.

ok, you people do realise Nintendo launched the Wii WORLDWIDE, as in the entire world dont you?  That's why Wii's are hard to find, because it's kind of hard to supply each region with enough unit's when there's a huge demand in every single one.

Now Nintendo could have pulled a Sony and only released in Japan and North America to help create a steady supply for those regions while screwing over Europe, but they didn't.  And because of that Nintendo has gotten the jump on Sony in that region and has a good chance of taking the Europe market if Sony takes too long to release over there.

Plus on the Japanese side the PS3 is supposed to be widely in stock now while the Wii is still in short supply.  So if the Wii with a shortage is able to outsell a widely available PS3, that only speaks volumes for just how popular the Wii is and how Nintendo easily owns that market.

Actually if Nintendo bought Sonic Team it would be great, because you know why.  When Miyamoto comes to check on the progress of their games, he'd be so angry with how bad the games are he'd flip the tea table over, then he'd pick up the tea table and beat every member of Sonic Team with it and tell them to start over.

I think after about 126 beatings Sonic Team would get something right, or eventually die from head trauma.

If Nintendo could get the rights, a huge YES.  Nintendo has a perfect record at taking 2d games to 3d, so they are the ONLY company that could finally bring Sonic into 3d.  Plus they've shown with Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat they could actually make a 2d Sonic that would match the greatness of the original ones.  Something Sega can't do.

To me this game is the last chance to see if Sega can make a Sonic game that's just at least good and doesn't completly suck.  To me all the 3d Sonic games have ranged from mediocre to complete sh!t.  But the fact that this game is not being made by Sonic Team and that Sonic looks to be the only character that's playable is the only thing that makes this game look like it'll end up somewhat decent.  Because my problem with ALL of the 3d Sonic games has been the lack of Sonic.  I dont give a f*ck about all these crappy characters that have been thrown in just to give all the furry fans something to fap to, I just want to play as Sonic goddamnit.

But I agree, if this game ends up just as horrible as the other 3D Sonics then I'm done with Sonic as well.  The only way I'd buy another Sonic game is if Nintendo somehow would get the rights to make a Sonic game and have Tokyo EAD make it.  Because Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat played more like a Sonic game then anything Sega's released in the last 10 years.

Most third parties sales are just as low or even lower on the PS3.  So low third party sales for the Wii right now in Japan doesn't mean that much when these companies are losing even more money on the only other system.

In Japan the only two system are the Wii and PS3 and right now their Wii games are doing better then their PS3 games, thanks to the huge cost of development for the PS3.  Third Party games on the Wii can sell only 1/3 of what they'd need to sell on the PS3 just to break even.  

So if a Third Parties PS3 game sells 30,000 copies but their Wii game only sells 15,000 copies the Wii game still did better since it cost ALOT LESS to make it.

I never played the Oracle games but I agree on Minish Cap.  Which is why I'm happy Nintendo took back the handheld Zelda series.  Now if only they'd do the same with the Star Fox series.

Well there's the fact that over 80% of people bought Zelda at launch so they haven't really had much of a reason to buy a second Wiimote yet.  Plus the best game on Wii Sports, Bowling can be played by alot of people with only one Wiimote so people just haven't had the need to go out and buy a second one yet.

My guess is when Mario Party 8 is released we'll see a huge increase in Wiimote sales since that will be the Wii's first Killer App Multiplayer game.

So why the heck did Nintendo let Capcom make Minish Cap for?

Actually I think this might be one of the reasons why Nintendo themselves is making Phantom Hourglass.  Capcom was allowed to make both Oracle games, the Link to the Past Remake/Four Swords game and then Minish Cap.  But now Nintendo is suddenly making the next handheld Zelda again after they allowed Capcom to do it for several years.

Anyone else think Nintendo got fed up with Capcom screwing them over and finally said "**** You!" and that's why EAD is making Phantom Hourglass instead of Flagship?

Capcom release chart for early 2007

In early 2007 Capcom will be releasing this many titles on each system.

PS2 - 33
PSP - 21
DS - 10
XBox360 - 6
PS3 - 3
GBA - 2
XBox - 1
PC - 1
Wii - 0

So even after the DS has had one of the most successful years in the history of gaming, Capcom is still giving more support to the PSP.  Nice to see the company is still being run my monkeys.

Wait, actually I think a monkey would run Capcom better then the people who are really making the decisions.

The Japanese are getting Genealogy of the Holy War already, this is why Nintendo making the Virtual Console region encoded makes me angry.  We're missing out on alot of amazing titles.

Hopefully they'll find a way to hack the Wii soon so we'd be able to download these games.  I dont care what it does to the warrenty, it'd be worth it just to finally play Genealogy and Thracia 776.

Wait, I thought Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo was released on the SNES?  Well I guess Turbo is the only one worth getting on the Virtual Console then.

Every single member of Sonic Team should be thrown in jail for the brutal murder of Sonic.  It's so sad what they did to him, first they broke his legs so he couldn't run anymore and then they took turns as they raped him over and over, while forcing us to watch the whole thing.  And when that was over they pulled out a gun and shoot the poor hedgehog in cold blood.  

And if that wasn't bad enough, those sick bastards returned to where they dumped the body several months later to once again take turns defiling Sonic's corpse.

Yeah, Super Street Fighter II Turbo is the only one worth buying.  Since it combines everything from all the other version of II.

Of course I get the feeling that version wont come out for a few years, since there starting with the first one right now.  It'll probobly be a year from now they'll go to Turbo, then another year Super, and then after another year Super Turbo.  So we're going to be waiting for awhile.

It still doesn't change the fact that you can get games on the Virtual Console for much cheaper then you can at a used videogame store or ebay.  Some of these stores are still charging around 20-30 dollars for the popular SNES games like A Link to the Past, Final Fantasy VI, Super Mario RPG and one store was even charging 50 BUCKS for Chrono Trigger.  

So being able to download those games for only 8 dollars is a very reasonable deal to me, when the only other alternative is spending about 3 times as much per game.

Yeah, the only time Sega was ever popular in Japan was with the Saturn for awhile.  So the only games Sega could release for the Virtual Console that would do very well in Japan would be their Saturn games, but that will never happen since it's impossible to create a Saturn emulator.

Wow, I must have been very lucky then.  When I walked into Best Buy on Tuesday they had plenty of copies there, so I figured all other stores would have received a good amount.

Wait a second, now that I think about it there was several empty boxes lying around the videogame section.  Which means I arrived right after they put all the copies on the shelves, which explains why there was plently of copies around when I arrived.  Well I'm sorry now for anyone that read my post and thought they'd be able to find easily find a copy then.

Yeah my local Best Boy has had those two titles for the last two months now.  I remember how surprised I was when I first saw them there.  Of course I already imported Jump Superstars over a year ago so it didn't really effect me that much.  But in the future this should be nice since importing DS games online usally cost around 60 dollars after shipping, I can save 10-20 dollars now.

It's not a preorder only, I walked into Best Buy and picked up a copy and that was it.  There was about seven other copies just sitting there on the shelf as well, ready for anyone to pick them up.

General Chat / Anyone else decided to stop looking for a Wii this year?

Well after finally having a way to afford a Wii again, I'm back to the problem of not being able to find any.  The local Best Buy says they'll only be getting one more shipment before Christmas and Gamestop says they recieve one shipment every week.  The problem is they dont know what day the shipment arrives and it could come anytime between 8:30 in the morning to 4:30 in the afternoon, and those shipments usally sell out in less then an hour.  And it's the same thing with every other store around here.

Plus there's the fact that I badly want to play Zelda and have been trying my hardest to avoid spoilers.  Even though I want the Wii version more then the Gamecube version, just the fact that I can't find a Wii has been making the Gamecube version look more attractive these last few days.  Well now that the Gamecube version was released I've decided I can't wait any longer and so I bought the Gamecube version today and decided I'll buy the Wii when the system is widely available sometime in the Spring along with the Wii version of Zelda and Wario Ware.

My love of Zelda is what was going to make me buy a Wii this year, but now my love of Zelda is the reason why I've finally given up on buying one this year.  Kind of funny how that turns out, isn't it.
