Nintendo Gaming / Re: Zelda U delayed to 2016. Won't be at E3 either.
« on: March 28, 2015, 08:32:03 AM »
Throughout the entire lifespan of the Wii U I've been playing the waiting game. I waited for Pikmin, I waited for Mario Kart, for Smash Bros. (And that game didn't even deliver), for XCX, and now Zelda. What annoy me is the false promise that 2015 was even in the cards. Now I have a literal handful of games for a system that doesn't even feel like Nintendo itself is supporting with any amount of effort. I've been a loyal customer for a long time and I don't feel like my purchase was worthwhile, especially if his eds up being a fucking NX dual-release. So excuse me if I sound a little angry.

Oh please, delays have been the course of Nintendo home consoles since the N64.  If you bought a Wii U you already knew what you were getting into.  Did you honestly think a company that was notorious for delaying their major home console games for almost 20 on much weaker hardware would suddenly be pumping out games at a rate never seen before on a system way more powerful?

Yeah after 20 years Nintendo should be doing a better job at being able to release a steady stream of games but when someone has been doing the same thing for so long, it's kind of expected.  Basically, if someones been a crackhead for almost 20 years, if you're going to invite them into your house, you should already know they're probably still a crackhead.  So don't be surprised if after they get into your house, they still do exactly what they've been doing for the last 20 years.

This is actually good news for Xenoblade since it gives it a better chance of selling in the West now.  Having 2 massive open world games coming out around the same time was always going to make one take attention away from the other, which we all know Zelda would get all the hype.  Now Xenoblade will be the only game of its kind coming out on the Wii U this Fall, which will help give it more attention from people who before would have ignored it in favor of Zelda because "OMG IT"S ZELDA".

I'm glad the game was delayed because it means Nintendo can actually deliver on creating a truly open world Zelda.  Seriously, the last 3D traditional Zelda game took Nintendo 5 years to make on an SD system like the Wii, and now suddenly people where expecting them to make a gigantic open world game in HD, something this team has never even done in only 4 year?

Yeah Skyward Sword took 5 years because they basically rebooted the whole thing in 2008 to take full advantage of Motion + controls but even if the new game hasn't had any similar reboots, the huge world was still going to take more time then any Zelda before it.  Anyone that wants this world to actually be filled with meaningful content should also be quite happy as well.

People that are actually angry by this can **** off since I don't want another Wind Waker that was clearly rushed just to make a holiday release and ended up being blatantly and offensively incomplete.  I don't give a **** how much nostalgia has blinded some, Wind Waker never lived up to it's full potential because of how rushed it was.  A Wind Waker with another year in development could have been a real masterpiece instead of what we got which was still a great game, but still so sad to play because it could have been so much more.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Official Sales Thread
« on: March 26, 2015, 03:43:12 PM »
The PS4 is selling the way it is now because it finally has games the Japanese are interested in release in the last few months.  The PS3 still sold over 10 million systems in Japan so it's not like the Japanese home console market is completely non existent.  Last year the system was selling worse then the Wii U after it's launch because it had nothing to make those PS3 owner upgrade, until these last few months which have seen a steady supply of every week include big titles like Dragon Quest Heroes.

Basically, if you're a Japanese Playstation fan who's had any interest in the system, these last several months have been the perfect time to finally buy one.  Similar to how the Wii U actually got a huge boast during holiday 2013 when Nintendo bundled NSMB U with the system around the time of Mario 3D Worlds launch, which caused all the remaining Mario fans that didn't buy the system at launch to go get it.  This is why Mario Kart 8 didn't do much to boast sales when it came out in Japan, or Mario Party 10 hasn't either since all the Mario fans either bought the Wii U at launch or waited until the NSMB bundles around 3D Worlds launch.

What's happening right now with the PS4 is very similar where the Playstation fans who didn't buy it at launch are now finally making the plunge but that will change since after Bloodborne this week, the PS4's lineup slows down until Meta Gear in September.  The sales will get back into the 10k range this Summer and won't rise again until Metal Gear Solid V's release.  Of course even that might not boast sales very much since the people interested in the upcoming major PS4 titles in Japan could easily all be getting one right now since it's the right time, leaving not as many to jump in when those games hit.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: The NWR Community's Top 20 3DS Games.
« on: March 25, 2015, 10:15:26 PM »
I haven't even played 10 games yet.

1.  Mario 3D Land
2.  Link Between Worlds
3.  Smash Bros
4.  Ocarina of Time 3D
5.  Kid Icarus Uprising
6.  Luigi's Mansion

I just got no time.  Doesn't help I still have around 20 regular DS games I still need to play as well.

Sin and Punishment Star Successor is the greatest rail shooter of all time.  Anyone that payed $50 should be honored they did so.

1132
how can you be so sure it is a hand held, they DID just release a New handheld even if it's not what you were expecting.

The New 3DS is no different then the DSi.  It's just an updated version of their current handheld not a real successor.

1133
If Nintendo wants to keep Sakurai happy then they better not ask him to start developing the next Smash Bros just a few months removed from saying he was basically done with the series...

They won't, he'll be allowed to make something unique like Kid Icarus Uprising again to make him happy before Iwata says it's Smash time again.  Just like the games character roster was decided before development even started, all the DLC the game is going to have has already been decided by now as well.  Most of the DLC will probably be returning veterans and stages anyway so I wouldn't be surprised if most of it's already done by now as well.

Does anyone honestly think they spent the last several months working on only Mewtwo who many fans will be getting for free as a Club Nintendo reward anyway?  Oh no, they got other things prepared that everyone will need to spend their money on because their just way too much money in DLC from Smash Bros to ignore.

1134
The NX is the next handheld.  Seriously, we've already gone over this, Nintendo isn't going to release their next home console before a handheld.  Handhelds have been Nintendo's main source of profit for the last 20 years now, even during the crazy Wii era, the DS was still the bigger seller.  With the 3DS sales under-performing below Nintendo's expectations last year and the mobile gaining huge steam the last few years in Japan, getting a new handheld out next year is Nintendo's number one goal.

Especially with what happened with the 3DS, Nintendo isn't going to take a chance.  The 3DS was able to turn around after its disasters post launch sales because of all the games Nintendo was able to pump out in it's first 2 years after launch.  Of course because of all that 3DS support, the Wii U ended up suffering as a result.  But that's the thing, Nintendo made a choice which system had to perform better and they choose the handheld.

1135
I don't see why Sakurai needs to be involved with DLC (or patches), they could just assign part of the game's team on that task. Heck, I don't see why he would need to helm the next Smash Bros. either, especially since the formula is already well established: it would probably benefit the series to be directed by someone new, then maybe it would have some fresh ideas.

Because unlike the rest of the Japanese gaming industry, Nintendo actually like to keep it's top talent happy and make sure their series still maintain the same level of quality.  Smash Bros is the way it is because of Sakurai, and Iwata clearly wants Sakurai still in charge of the series because he feels it wouldn't be the same without him.

Even if Sakurai is no longer the director of future Smash Bros, he'll definitely be a producer overlooking everything to make sure the new team doesn't mess anything up.

1136
Sure they will, they are doing it in droves. Every sales story says the Ps4 is selling faster than Ps2 do you really think all of that is hard core gamers? The flaw in this argument is lumping all people who aren't hard core into one "casual" umbrella which is erroneous there are a lot of Madden/CoD and Wrestling only "gamers" who will buy the damn thing too. You can say Ps4 won't sell as well as Ps2 all you want while in the real world it ALREADY IS doing just that.

That's not true anymore.

Yes it launched stronger but that's thanks to the huge demand for new next gen consoles since the previous one dragged on so long.  The hardcore make launches successful while the casuals are what drive long term sales.  The fact PS4 sales are slowing down around the time the PS2 took off shows it's not appealing to families and casuals like the PS2 did.

1137
Doesn't surprise me.  After they killed Hudson, the management of Konami made it clear they didn't give a **** about the videogame market anymore.  The thing about Konami is they aren't a pure gaming company, in Japan they have several other non gaming related businesses that are successful like Fitness Centers and Real Estate.

So with Kojima gone, Konami has officially left the videogame market.  Outside of their older games being uploaded to whatever DDL service there is, it's pretty much over.

1138
Considering the Xbone is on track to sell less then half of what the 360 sold and is continually being beaten by the PS4 in America, and even selling worse then the Wii U in Europe outside the UK, Microsoft will probably sell the division in the next 5 years.  Even though Nintendo isn't going to buy the whole thing, I could see Nintendo trying to go after Rare.  For one, I'm sure they'd like to be able to release the Donkey Kong Country games whenever they want, instead of having to make legal deals with whoever buys Xbox from Microsoft.  They could also release the Rare N64 games which were a major part of that systems library which I imagine Nintendo would like to have the ability to do in the future when finally add N64 games to the eShop.

Plus Iwata has said he regrets not trying to keep the Banjo-Kazooie series before they sold all their stock to Microsoft, so if given the chance to fix that he might make a move.

1139
how do you know PS4 won't double as a casual friendly console since it does everything people want in terms of multimedia stuff too? It has Facebook integration built in there is nothing more casual right now than FB.

Casuals aren't going to buy a $400 videogame system to do things they can already do on their PC or smartphones.  Sony would have to create a Wii Sports type casual phenomenon to make these people even think about buying the PS4 and Sony has shown no interest in doing that.

1140
Doesn't surprise me considering Inafune is nothing more then a greedy piece of **** who's the most responsible for Capcom becoming the crap it is now.  Inafune was the guy who chased away both Kamiya and Mikami, and the one who started Capcom down the path of trying to just rip off Western games instead of you know, continuing designing games the way Capcom had already been doing for 2 decades and was already quite popular in the West because of it.

The whole point of MN9 was just a scam to steal millions from desperate Mega Man fans.  I can guarantee you that not even half of all the money spent on MN9 is even going into development while the rest is going straight to Inafunes bank account because that's just how shameless he really is.

TalkBack / Re: Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. (3DS) Review
« on: March 11, 2015, 06:03:48 PM »
So I want Nintendo to take a risk with titles like this but they need to understand that they are a risk.  Not every concept will have enough universal appeal to become a big hit.  But some will.  That's the risk vs. reward.  But if a new IP doesn't catch on the appropriate reaction isn't to just focus on Mario more.

This is exactly what Nintendo has been doing forever now.  Do I need to start posting the huge list again?  A lot of those new IP's never became big, but that didn't stop The Wonderful 101, S.T.E.A.M or Splatoon from still being made.  Hell, Xenoblade sales wise wasn't exactly a huge hit and yet they still allowed a big budget sequel to be made instead of making Monolith Soft work on something Mario related which you seem to think is all Nintendo wants to do.

Nintendo has never stopped making new IP's and this games success or failure isn't going to affect that one bit.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: What is YOUR top ten Wii U games so far...
« on: March 05, 2015, 11:32:30 PM »
1. Super Smash Bros Wii U
2. New Super Mario Bros U/L  (Luigi is DLC so it's part of the same game to me)
3. Super Mario 3D World
4. Bayonetta 1 (I just put over 60 hours into this game and completed Non Stop Climax, got all 101 Tears of Blood and the special super hard Rodin boss fight, so yeah I'm going to wait a few months before starting the sequel or else I'll probably get burned out since I had enough Bayo goodness this last month)
5. Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze
6. The Wonderful 101
7. Hyrule Warriors
8. Mario Kart 8

That's kind of it since those are the only 8 Wii U games I've been able to play so far.  Here's my backlog of games I own but haven't played yet.

Nintendo Land
Pikmin 3
Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor Edge
Rayman Legends
Shovel Knight
Bayonetta 2
Toki Tori 2

Not surprising considering the Tingle Rubyland DS spinoff already showed Tingle is indeed attracted to women back in 2006.

Oh wait, it's a Kotaku interview.

In the grand scheme of things the conferences are pointless anyway.  Less then 1% of the gaming public actually watch them with everybody else finding out about the information told in them later anyway.  With the Nintendo Directs, the information that would have been told in the conference, is still being told anyway anyway, so over 99% of everyone else will find out about Nintendo's E3 reveals the same way.

Unless you're actually going to be at E3 itself, being live doesn't make that much of a difference.  Most of us will be watching it from are computers anyway, so a conference or a Nintendo Direct are basically the same for many of us anyway.  The only difference is things like the terrible Skyward Sword demo won't happen like was talked about earlier, but last I checked, that's kind of a good thing.

Yes I can understand the members of the gaming press like the staff at NWR wanting a live conference since for them it's a much more exiting event since they're literally right there to see it all happen.  But for me, watching it on my computer in my crappy little apartment over a 1000 miles away, the live aspect doesn't really effect me now, does it.

Zelda is a sinking ship and has been for a while its no longer the sales monster it used to be and with the fanbase so divided lately it might turn out to be a dud anyways.

Twilight Princess sold over 8 million copies worldwide and is the best selling Zelda of all time.  Skyward Sword only sold around 4 million but the second Zelda on consoles historically sell worse then the first.  Ocarina of Time did 7.6 million while Majora's Mask which came out only 2 years later did only 3.3 million.

Just because the Zelda fanbase on the internet is a total clusterfuck doesn't mean the general audience is.  Wind Waker HD which is literally just an enhanced HD port sold over a million copies.  Hyrule Warriors which isn't even a real Zelda game did over a million just from the Zelda name and character in it alone.  Nintendo just revealed Link is the best selling Amiibo worldwide.  The upcoming Zelda Wii U is already guaranteed at least 3 million copies based of the fact it's a new Zelda game anyway, and it'll just increase depending on if Nintendo can really deliver on the open world aspects which will create a huge amount of hype if they do.

Yes the Wii U is never going to match the PS4/One sales, but a new Zelda with a ton of hype does at least allow the system to have similar sales to last holiday, which was only between 700-800k in America.  That's not exactly a high bar to pass when even the Gamecube was doing better then that each holiday.

I'm surprised no ones mentioned the terrible marketing campaign for the Gamecube with many of their games Nintendo gave which is another reason the system didn't do as well.  Seriously, the system was already struggling by Summer 2002 and they cut the price and rushed Mario Sunshine out so it could be a summer release and how do they advertise it?

Who in the **** thought this ad was a good idea.  Yeah Mario Sunshine would already end up being pretty controversial anyway because of certain game design choices anyway, but this ad did no favor what so ever and turned many off before they'd even play the damn game.  After the Gamecube price cut this was suppose to be the game that would help turn things around since it's Mario for **** sake and at this time it had been 6 years since Mario 64 was last released.  They needed to bring their A game in marketing this title and instead they advertise it like some shovelware trash.

It's almost like during the Gamecube era Nintendo was intentionally trying to make sure people didn't buy their games because many of the ads were just downright awful and made many of the games looks very unappealing to anyone that wasn't already one of the Nintendo faithful.

« on: February 16, 2015, 03:36:45 PM »
Actually the Wii U is growing since sales for January in the West were higher last month then they were in January 2014.  Last year people have to remember the system only had during the first half of the year, Donkey Kong in February which didn't do much for hardware sales and then Mario Kart which actually did boast sales but didn't release til the end of May, almost 6 months into the year.  Smash Bros and Mario Kart have already shown to have greater legs then any game previously released on the Wii U so realistically the sales for the Wii U in the first half of 2015 will be greater then the sales during the first half last year.

Of course the second half will be interesting since nothing coming out will have the same impact as Mario Kart and Smash, but if Nintendo drops the price during the holiday and bundles Smash Bros around the same time Zelda comes out, that could get the second half of 2015 similar numbers to last year.  Either way, 2015 will probably be the systems best selling year so Iwata isn't wrong to say the system is still growing.

Yes it's not going to be major growth, but still enough to make sure games like Smash Bros and Mario Kart sell a few million more copies which at this point is the thing Nintendo cares most about with the system.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Super Smash Bros. for WiiU (& 3DS)
« on: February 14, 2015, 11:29:02 PM »
With a new Star Fox coming out this year, Wolf is pretty likely to return.  Lucas I could see since the Mother series is still pretty popular among the hardcore Nintendo fans in Japan and a lot of top Nintendo execs including Sakurai seem to have a good relationship with Itoi.

For stages, I wouldn't be surprised if we get stage packs based on the other games.  Like an N64 pack with several N64 stages, a Melee pack with Melee stages, Brawl with Brawl stages and then after all those they'll release a 3DS pack where we can play some of the 3DS stages on the Wii U version.  Yeah I'm sure they'll be a pack with brand new stages as well but for a game like this, I'd expect the majority will be previous stages since it's much cheaper to produce and most of the hardcore Smash Bros fans who'll be buying the DLC will be more excited for many of these older stages then newer ones anyway, especially for the N64 and Melee stages.

The New 3DS is just a way to increase 3DS sales which took a worse then expected drop last year.  If 3DS sales continue to underperform this year like they did last year, they're not waiting until 2017 to release a new handheld.  Unless the New 3DS really lights the world on fire this year, their new handheld is coming out in 2016.  Handhelds have been Nintendo's main business for almost 20 years now, even during the insane the Wii years the DS was actually the bigger system.  Nintendo is not going to release a home console first which could end up taking away resources for the 3DS successor, like the 3DS ended up taking away a lot of Wii U resources.

Especially with smartphones really eating away a lot of the handheld market in Japan the last few years, while the home console market is dying over there, I doubt a new home console is their main concern right now.  Making sure the next handheld is still successful is going to be more important to them then a home console.

TalkBack / Re: Rayman to Be in Upcoming Smash Bros. DLC?
« on: February 14, 2015, 10:27:23 PM »
Well Rayman Origins sold the best on the Wii and even with all the bullshit that happened, Rayman Legends sold the best on the Wii U.  Ubisoft might have realized that Rayman fits the Nintendo audience better and wants to do all they can to get him more exposure to Nintendo fans in hopes that the next Rayman game can be a bigger hit with them.

I mean Ubisoft did manage to get Rayman related trophies into the game so getting the main character included as DLC isn't that far of a stretch.
