General Gaming / RE: Micrsoft is now doomed?

Heard it a week or so ago...they aren't doomed.  You didn't always need a mod chip for PSX.   And we all know Sony did terribly....

There are all kinda of theorys.  Most likely, he did it him self.  He had attempted before, but failed.  Taking 50 individually wrapped sleeping pills is NOT an accident.  He had severe stomach problems and was in relativly constant pain.

Regardless of that, Nirvana has been a favorite band of mine for some time.   My favorites are "The man who sold the world" "Heart shaped box" and "Come as your are".   Funny part is, they didn't even like SLTS.

I read half the hobbit then went on to other books.  You are a decent writter, but, I care very little for literature I never enjoyed.  It started a genre and was a great achievment that I can appreciate, but I don't like the books.

They cheat.  Wheeeeee, everyone one does.  Benchmarks are crap.  A set way to tell how good different types of systems are..that works.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: What Nintendo should do when launching GC2
« on: July 01, 2003, 12:01:54 PM »
I liked the GCN's launch.  Sure it was as big as the ps2's launch, but it actually had GOOD GAMES.  I have no problem with the design, I don't care if anyone else does.  The handle is damn useful.  I have a 200-300 dollar system, I don't want to drop it.  Who gives a damn if it has a friggin handle.  I am sure Nintendo knows they need a good image and good games.  And They know what a television is.   Why don't we just wait and see.

I could have sworn I clicked on a GCN l2 launch topic.  Oh well.  Sonic Chaos on GG was a lot of fun, the problem for me was that it was too easy.  A friend of mine owns all of the sonic games for GG, so I have played them all.  I like most of them except sonic 2, I hate it.  I dealt with the slowdown then, and on a TV screen, it likely looks a bit better than the screen that shunned all outside light.  A decent enough incentive to collect the medals.

Took me some time to find modem drives for my winmodem but eventually got them from linuxant.com.  Broadband connections are easy, since NICs are well supported.

Nintendo Gaming / Talk about replayability...
« on: June 27, 2003, 04:43:01 PM »
Wow, I haven't bought a new GCN game in a while, haven't had the extra cash, but I just sat down with my cube and played 2 hrs of SMS and Metroid Prime.  Just can't beat the fun of going back and remembering what captured your imagination the first time.  Entering Delphino plaza always makes me want to game, same with hearing that errie music in MP.  I never really have this happen with non-Nintendo consoles, does anyone else find that they keep comming back to Nintendo games more later on?

Linux is an OS based on unix.  It is quite secure and really meant to be a server OS.  It is slower than windows as a desktop os, but if you get a couple people all accessing the same thing on one machine and see who is faster(-:  It is extremly cutomizable.  If you want it to do something, there is likly a way to do it.  If you want it to look a certain way, you can do it.  There is definatly less support for linux, but much of it is open-source and free.  Games are slowly comming along.  I have found linux to be much better at managing ram and such, games close and open faster(sometimes run better too)  although is you use something like KDE, you will see that it is slower than windows in the general operation of things.  I use fluxbox for the speed and love it(gotta have some experience with the command line though).  I love how the OS works, but windows is definatly useful.  You can always try it, free downloads at www.linux-iso.org.  Popular distros are Mandrake, Red Hat, slackware, gentoo and debian.  Mandrake is decidely easier than many others.  www.linuxquesions.org  has a lot of information on the boards as well.

Yeah, a lot of newer games are having support, but you just can't beat the support for windows.  I have maybe 8 FPS games installed on my slack paritition that I play with friends.  Luckily, I don't really play pc games all that much.  I personally hated Mandrake and found that I really didn't learn much with it, but to each his own.(-:

I have been using slackware for some time now.  It is the only OS on my own computer presently.  Use abiword for word stuff, xmms for music as well as xine/mplayer for movies.  I have been enjoying the OS quite a bit.  Windows is still useful, however, and I may put it back on soon for the ease of compatability.  Winex3.1 helps with compatabillity, but it doesn't run that much(hl at above 60 fps though(-: )

I would like to see Pilot Wings or Blast Corps on a disc.  I could borrow Zelda or mario or Jet Force Gemini from plenty of N64 owners that I know(Since I no longer have mine).  But Pilotwings and Blast Corps were a lot of fun whlie being a little less popular.

« on: June 26, 2003, 11:52:47 AM »
Um, no, you couldn't get most anything from windows to load on it.  Guys programed those games and other pieces of software to run on it.  Give the guys some credit.  They made programs that were bootable from a CD that guys like us just had to burn properly to take advantage of.

Head over to www.boob.co.uk or www.dcemulation.com to check it out

Bleemcase only allowed 3 games to be played, remember.  sony sued their asses into the ground )-.;

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Forgetting the "older" generation of Gamers?
« on: June 21, 2003, 06:07:54 AM »
I am also bored with the ease of games.  I rarely bother finishing and easy game.  SMS made me so angry with how hard it was, but I kept comming back for more because it was a challenge.  I remember some of the best games I ever played made me thow my controller accross the room.  When I was 14 I remember breaking a DC controller and a PSX controller in one week.  But I won't forget fighting the weapons in FF7 or playing MDK2

Some time back Sega sold many of it's hardware to other companies, perhaps this is linked to that?  It does look neat, especially since I have a few games in my posession.

Another issue is the GCN's general size.  Moding that thing can't be easy.  Many people who try to do this if it becomes possible may be buying a new GCN from Nintendo.

Anyone wonder where the mods went?  DoS attacks are one of those things some kiddy in IRC threatens with.  Not usually a worry  You jam a connection with more information that it can handle and stuff crashes.  At LANs my friends and I have had various wars with stuff like this.

General Chat / RE: nVidia vs ATI

I prefer ATI as well, as you can tell by my card choice.  I refuse to by nVidia after the linux problems I have had with them.  Heh, can't wait for Doom 3, optimized for ATI cards, lets see how the old r9000 pro runs it!

Heh, l have access to most all of the OSes, only got a burned XP because my install was damaged and I was NOT paying for a second liscense when I should have recieved a disc with the HP my parents bought.  The PC I built for myself runs slack 9.0, however, so obviously, I didn't pirate that OS.  I do have access to all of the Windows OSes(including longhorn) but I never had much use for them, so my friend just keeps them tucked away till my parents mess something up badly.
