The Wii video hardware is simply incapable of outputting an HD signal at an optimal display rate. The best it can muster is 480p at 60hz (or 576p at 50hz for our European friends). While the Wii could technically output at an HD resolution, say 720p, it could only be done at a refresh rate of 40hz.

The Wii cannot display games at 720p.  It simply cannot.

However, if someone did something like hack the Wii's video chip, it could technically output in 720p.  The Wii can only output 28,800 scan lines per second in progressive mode, though, so it could only do it at 40hz.  That is, 480x60 = 576x50 = 720x40 = 28,800.

Don't get any ideas of homebrew HD Wii games unless someone gets a'hackin', though.

The Wii doesn't output in HD because the framebuffer is too small for that (plus some other limitations), which makes it impractical (and practically impossible)

I believe that that 28.800 number is BS however (which is your source for that?)... and let's not forget there are no TVs capable of 40Hz... probably no monitors either.

Nope, just SSBB and another Japanese game that just came out - Miberi and Tiberi or something like that. If you're having problems, it's not because of a "dirty" laser, it's because of a "bad" laser, since this error happens with brand new Wiis too, though it's a very small number altogether. Sometimes my Wii won't read my SSBB, though usually it does. It's always been behind a glass entertainment center door, which is 100% dust and dirt free.

Also I heard claims that Scarface is another double layer disc game.

it isn't, the first DL game for Wii was SSBB

At this point, it's difficult to believe that, and instead, we should question if AZ is mafia or not. This should be investigated tonight.

Wait, why is that depressing? Bleeding edge TV technology drops in price rapidly. A year from now this will be noticeably less. Also, Going down to a 50" would be cheaper as well. In some cases you are paying  a $100 for every extra inch. But that's just me.

I didn't mean the fact being depressing, but your statement... because, well, for a semi-decent 32'' LCD (Samsung R8), that's the amount of money one has to pay over here...

The fact that I can't reliably tell who someone really is with all this name changing is becoming a major annoyance.  Is there any way that we could we at least still see the original names in profiles?

Ok, time to resurrect this thread, I need new anime to watch!!

As of now I'm only watching Gundam 00 what else is out there in the actioin line of anime?? I haven't seen anything good in a while.

Once it ends (just 4 eps now), feel free to watch Gundam SEED (great, but as of now I'm liking 00 a lot more), well, anything Gundam really (except G or G-Saviour... ugh...), Mai HiME (awesomeness, anime of the forever... its sequel, Mai Otome is trainwreck of the forever), Darker than BLACK (Heroes like, but different.. ending is kinda meh, but really really great series overall), Zegapain (winner of best ignored series of the Haruhi season... very dramatic though), Eureka seveN (the "surfer mechas" are somewhat off-putting... looking past that, awesome), Haruhi Suzumiya no Yuutsu (Mikuru Beamuu! not really acting, you have to watch it regardless), and more...

I do need to watch more series though, I just watched one per season for the last 3... also, Tsubasa Chronicles is kinda boring, but does have some of the best episodes ever (and its OST is incredible... <3 Kajiura Yuki). Pap, you'll have to at least read its manga, if you intend to fully comprehend xxxHolic... (or maybe not, as the anime probably diverted a lot from the manga, as TRC did)

Computer Engineering student... probably will start working this year, and finish my English studies, at last...

I'm not to much.  On a side note I think .Net is getting less confusing.

sorta... getting better, but being windows only kinda kills it (as great as mono is, it will always be behind)... I really like C# though.
