Nintendo Gaming / RE:I hope "Secret Rings" doesn't suck...
« on: February 06, 2007, 04:35:55 AM »
EDIT: I know I just finished posting on this, but I figured this deserved its own, independent entry.

A Sonic website called "Sonic stadium" was able to demo the final build of the game, even testing the multiplayer portion of the game with other editors.

The latest impressions.

They also mention new stuff like new playable modes, difficulty, extras and cutscenes.

They came out impressed with the demo, but are still dubious of the final game. They only demoed the two stages Sega has been showing off for a year now, so like I said earlier, those two stages could indeed be the best and could get worse from then on.

I don't know why, but you said that and I thought of S_B for a second... :p

Anyways, yeah, it was an annoying affair, mainly because I simply didn't know. I honestly wish machines would simply tell you what is going on instead of leaving you to guess what is going on.

I have to be honest: after watching the new trailer a few more times, I do have more than a glimmer of hope for this game.

If the game is focused on being a visceral, speed-based experience (which it very much seems to be) then I could see myself really enjoying it.

It looks like there's a version of "Sonic Party" (aka. Sonic Shuffle) included as a four player game. While I don't have much faith that it'll be decent, the title looks pretty damn polished so who knows?

Here's hoping I'm not setting myself up for extreme disappointment...

I think the after surgery pain is making you delirious. Maybe that's why you think you have hope for the game .

All kidding aside, the trailer DOES look cool, but the reason I am still hesitant on the final game is because trailers for anything (movies, TV shows, games) have the annoying tendency to paint you a pretty picture, not giving you the WHOLE thing.

Like I said, the coolest parts of the trailer could be the most annoying and frustrating gameplay way. Frankly, the scenes where Sonic is running at insane speeds then jumping over obstacles and hitting enemies look like it could cause the most trouble and annoyance.

So I said it once and I'll say it again, the only way we can tell if this game is good or not is when we finally have it on our hands.

S_B, I need to correct you on something. Scarface is NOT published and developed by EA. It is currently being published by Sierra and developed by some unknown company. EA is the one doing Godfather.

So to make sure:
Godfather=EA
Scarface=Sierra.

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE!

I FIXED IT!

I am able to connect to the Wii shop channel and the Internet channel!

Turns out the problem was indeed the router. I found out when I was configuring my nephew's Wii. Despite being brand new it too wouldn't connect to the internet. What I did was restore the router back to its factory settings and allow it to be used as an access point. I did that and the Wii connected!

I am glad to know that the problem wasn't with the Wii!

I just re-confirmed at Nintendo's press site.  It is still slated as Q2, which means April-June.

I know, hence why I found it weird when the store was offering dad the chance to get the game in March. I even told dad over the phone that Mario Party 8 was delayed and that the final release date was still unknown. We still reserved it, but I was still wondering WHY the stores had that date.

Nintendo Gaming / Mario Party 8 still set for a March release?
« on: February 05, 2007, 11:41:02 AM »
As many of you know, a while back Nintendo released a Q1 list that included everything being released from January till April. Originally, Mario Party 8 was going to be part of this schedule. But then Nintendo updated their lists and MP 8 was mysteriously absent, leading many to believe the game had been delayed. Nothing has been mentioned about this...till now.

You see, my dad went to pick up my nephew's Wii (yay he finally got one!).The employees offered him the opportunity to pre-order Mario Party 8 for 5 bucks. They even told him to come pick up the game on March 6th before 3:00PM!

If its true that Nintendo has delayed the game and erased it from its Q1 release schedule why does Gamestop still have it listed for a March release?

I think this is Gamestop not updating their databases and are still thinking that the game will be released in March. I checked their websites and they too have MP 8 listed for a March date.

So which is it? Is the game still set for March or has Nintendo delayed the game till further notice?

Nope, my cel phone is an older model, so no SD card.

And in order to steal S_B's SD card I would have to board a plane to Boston, then drive to NH. Not worth it...

An update, I just called my ISP. They said that they are blocking nothing and also suspect that the router may be the problem.

I told them that I reconfigured everything for 2 hours and it still didn't work. But Nintendo also came to the conclusion that Belkin is being a douche with the connection.

So the only thing left for me to do is either get another router and see if it works or just give up all together...

I already mentioned that the problem could potentially be my ISP blocking any outside signals that are using my connection in fear of stealing my services.

I'll call today and see what they say.

Of course you have played the Wii more than the GC. The GC has been out for 5 years, the Wii has been out for 3 months. Its very hard to top the playing hours you put on the GC for five years on the Wii :p .

But seriously, if you are saying that because you haven't played a game since launch and thus feel 'disappointed", chill. The system was just released and the games will be released. Give the system time!

I got my Wii on my third day of Christmas, S_B being the gorilla that gives presents to the good little boys and girls after the holidays!

In all seriousness, S_B was the one that braved the cold sunday morning trying to get Wiis for me and his co-worker and I can't thank him ENOUGH. : _ )

S_B, you forgot to mention that the Wii is also getting some surprising and un-expected mature franchises, like the Godfather and Scarface.

True, these games might be updated ports of the PS2/XBOX versions with added controls, but even then these are highly loved and respected mature franchises. These franchises are basically pop culture icons. They are constantly parodied, mocked, celebrated and presented through many mediums. Hell, go to any Hot topic and you are bound to find Scarface anything, even underwear, for sale.

Then there was the talks of Reggie talking to Rockstar about bringing GTA to the Wii. These games are games that we only DREAMED of seeing on the GC. The GC never got this type of support in its lifetime, yet the Wii was able to get these in a lifespan of 3 months.

Nintendo is even creating their own "adult' franchises, Disaster: Day of crisis and Project H.A.M.M.E.R. Not to mention there's still Sadness, Prince of Persia and many other serious franchises heading for the Wii.

HELL, people even have hope for freaking SONIC THE HEDGEHOG because the Wii might tremendously revitalize a dying franchise. The jury is still out on the quality of the game, yes, but not even the XBOX 360 and PS3 version of Sonic next gen has gathered this type of hype and attention, when it is more than likely that the game will disappoint.

He is still a pretty boy, but I agree that this Link was tough and manly.

As for Midna, what appealed to me was her attitude. The way she spoke, acted and expressed herself. That captivated me a lot. I sometimes find myself attracted to a character not because she is hot but because she has such a great personality and Midna is said case. She is not hot, but she is cute, sassy and most importantly powerful.

On and S_B I forgot to mention that I was kidding when I said that. Its true that Link is pretty but he PALES in comparison to anything done in the anime and manga industry as well as every male character created by Square in the last 10 years.

I believe that out of all the Links that have been made that make the fangirls go SQUEE!!!!! the TP Link makes them go SQUEEE!!!! the hardest and here's why:

- This Link is STRONG. True, the other Links were strong, capable and great fighters, but this Link means business. He is able to stop goats on their tracks and turn them over, he OPENS the doors and gates they don't automatically open for him and overall Link does far more manual labor in TP than in any other Zelda games.

- He is extremely expressive in TP. There are some expressions that define pretty boy, and as anime has proved girls go crazy over pretty boys with big, cute, expressive puppy eyes.

- Link is awesome as a wolf. He embodies everything that make wolves awesome animals.

- And the biggest one of all...I think this is the first time Link is shirt less. Seriously, when I was playing the game with SB, the minute Link appeared shirt less I said; "...and all the fangirls just wet themselves...".

And S_B, you might want to rephrase that last statement...I know what you mean is that Link is so pretty that he is able to overshadow pretty women, but agreeing that Link is hot is, well..weird.

I personally don't care if the game is in 2D, 3D or even 4D. If the game is fun, addictive and engaging its good enough for me.

Hence why I am playing LTTP.

I don't know about you, but I think the Mii channel is one of those features that Nintendo will heavily use while third parties will ignore it, unless Nintendo orders them to use it otherwise.

Also, Konami is notoriously lazy when it comes to making DDR games, so I wouldn't be surprised if one of the reasons they don't add Mii support is because they don't want to create a dancing animation that works with all the Miis you have on your machine.

I know Wario uses them and the Wii uses them to the fullest, but developers can be lazy like that.

I think that's because handhelds are notorious for downgrading fighters in order to fit them in their limited storage. Some have been really good (I heard Tekken PSP was very solid), but overall very few fighters are able to do well as handheld games because the format is too limited for them.

To be honest, I never saw Zelda as being THAT anorexic, and Midna looked fine in human form. She was beautiful, yes, but that was because I got so used to seeing Midna as a cute, witty, sarcastic, aloof little imp that when she finally transformed into her true form I was shocked by how she looked.

Then again, I was captivated by the story so much that I didn't pay attention to how the characters looked.

This is Zelda, not DoA people! :p

Technically, they will release an add on that makes wired connections possible. Hell, even the Wii asks you if your connection is wired or wireless, meaning that the option of connecting it directly exists.

Something occurred to me while I was talking to S_B about it. I think the problem could be my ISP. See, me and S_B suspect that the ISP noticed that someone or something else was using my connection, this being the Wii. Maybe they noticed that and blocked it in fear that someone was stealing my connection when in reality it was me.

I will call them and see if by any they blocked any ports or detected some extra activity in the week.

Nintendo has already commented on this. They said they did experiment around with the idea, but it just didn't feel the same. The touch screen controls were questionable according to their words and decided to just leave it be.
