Nintendo Gaming / Good/Funny taunt quotes for characters
« on: October 20, 2007, 04:22:24 PM »
The other night I remembered that you can assign different quotes to each of the character's three taunts and figured it would make for some devilish fun and the extreme annoyance of others.

In this thread I will write quotes that would make funny/annoying taunts for the characters in Brawl. You can write in your own. Remember the quote must fit the character somehow.

NOTE: Some of these are meant to annoy and to make people groan and some might be too long to implement on three spaces.

Here we go!

Mario:
"If you need help on how to play Brawl check out the enclosed instruction book!"
"GLUG GLUG GLUG!"
"Its a rock, Luigi, you didn't make it!"
"Look! There's a lotsa coins everywhere! I'M A RICH!"
"He's marinating in his own ragu!"

Link:
"WELL EXCUUUUUUUUUSE ME, PRINCESS!!!" (Too, too obvious!)
"Gee, it sure is boring around here!"
"I WON!"
"I can't wait to bomb some dodongos!"
"How about a kiss, for luck!"
"But its my first time! In more ways than one!"
"Then I will save you, my princess!"
"At least YOU get something!"

Luigi:
"Its Mama Luigi to you!"
"Lots of spaghetti!"

Pokemon trainer:
*This one is exclusively for Squirtle
"Squitl..WHAT THE F*CK AM I SAYING"
"THIS SH*T MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL!"
"For the love of f*ck kids, go read a book or something!"

"Screw the rules I have money!"

Zelda:
"I truly appreciate it...truly"
"I only have 8 ruppees, take it for your time"

Donkey Kong:
"BANANA SLAMMA!"
"Remove those funny green papers from your parent's pants and wallets and send them to me!"
"What are you going to get? A post card from Puerto Rico!"

Diddy Kong:
"Monkey Muscle!"
"TATTATATA! MONKEY POWER!"

Wario:
"Have a rotten day! I hate you!"

Bowser:
"What am I, blind? Shut up!"
"Look son there's something I need to tell you..."
"Pesky plumbers!"
"Not into the pit, it burns!"

Ganondorf:
"You dare bring light into my lair?"
"YOU MUST DIE!"
"Curse you sages! Curse you, Zelda!"

This is what I have for now. Some of these are VERY obscure references to old show (especially the Donkey Kong ones!). Try to guess where they are from!

General Chat / I need some cheering up
« on: October 16, 2007, 03:58:29 PM »
Today was one of the most embarrassing and stressful days of my life. I nearly failed my school practical. I was so upset that I decided to take a break from it as the stress was getting to me.

In the meantime, I need some cheering up. Can anyone think of stuff that can get my spirits up? Movies? Books? Games? Some wise words of wisdom?

I'll be eternally grateful and I need a friend right now.

Nintendo Gaming / Which classic stage should be featured in Brawl?
« on: October 15, 2007, 03:04:55 PM »
S_B just gave me the idea for this thread.

Melee featured 3 classic SSB 64 stages (Yoshi's Story, Kirby's Dreamland and Kongo Jungle) so its more than likely that Brawl will feature classic SSB64 and Melee stages. The question is, which ones do YOU want to see return?

Here are my choices:
SSB 64: Hyrule Castle, Yoshi's Story, Pokemon Building, Great Fox
SSB Melee: Big Blue, Classic Mushroom Kingdom, Dream fountain, Fourside, Mute City, Hyrule Temple

General Chat / Jim Henson's Dinosaurs
« on: October 14, 2007, 06:37:34 AM »
Lately, I've been watching all 4 seasons of this slightly underrated series and I forgot how amazing this TV show was.

In case you never saw the series (because of lack of cable, too young to remember or just plain ignorance), "Dinosaurs" takes the simple premise of "The Simpsons"(a mockery of society) and replaces the humans with Dinosaurs. In short, it shows us how civilization would be like if dinosaurs decided to get out of the wild, get married and settled down.

"Dinosaurs" follows the Sinclair family. There's Earl Sinclair, the father of the family, Fran Sinclair, the wise mother, Robbie Sinclair, the rebellious elder son, Charlene Sinclair, the spoiled younger sister and the iconic Baby Sinclair, who gained fame by being cute and hilarious. There are other characters that inhabit their lives, such as Roy, Earl's best friend and B.P. Richfield, the series's main antagonist and Earl's boss.

There are many things to love about the series. The first thing is that it features some really witty and sharp writing with plenty of commentary on many of society's quirks. What I love most about this is that it doesn't get too preachy and heavy handed with the morals and commentary (save for the final episode) and just has fun with the storyline, something series like "The Boondocks" and "South Park" have been doing in recent years, sometimes being successful, other times just being pretentious. There's even a full on attack on Disney theme parks (which at one pointed heavily promoted the series on the parks)!

The other thing I love about the series are the puppet characters. This is perhaps some of the best puppetry Jim Henson has ever done. Each character takes 3, count them, 3 performers to bring to life (one dons the suit, one controls the face and the actor provides the voice). And yet you would never know because all three are in perfect sync, creating an amazing performance that is full of life, character and charm. I LOVE Earl, he's my favorite character in the entire series. He is basically one ol' big lug, a loser with visions of grandeur and the representation of male stubbornness. Its hard to hate him, even if he does do some questionable things.

I absolutely LOVE the character expressions. Everything from subtle expressions to wacky double takes brings the characters to life even further. It reminds me of the days in which films were filled to the brim with fantastic looking puppet characters (like Labyrinth, which is also a Jim Henson production).

So add clever writing and incredible puppet acting and you have a winner.

You can check out the whole series on DVD now. If you love Jim Henson stuff you should check this one out.

NOTE: Mods, feel free to move this elsewhere if it doesn't belong here.

I'm surprised that with the amount of goofy screenshots featured on the SSB Brawl website no one has made a thread dedicated to captioning them.

Well, I shall be a maverick and place the first stone!

Here are some SSB Brawl screens. Do your best to caption them!

General Chat / A problem regarding my faith
« on: September 29, 2007, 07:25:40 PM »
OK guys, don't know who else to turn to so I figured I would give it a chance here.

All the members in my family are Christians. My dad, mom, sister, brother in law, nephew and niece all started by studying the Bible. Then they started attending church and then became full time Christians. Needless to say, they became better people because of it. At the time they started my family was on the verge of destruction due to many personal issues and problems life kept throwing at us. The only one that hasn't made the jump is me. One of the reasons my family didn't force me into Christianity was because they believed that I was on the right path in life and didn't need any force to do keep walking that path.

After returning from S_B's this past summer they offered me the chance to study the Bible. I accepted because at the time I felt extremely betrayed and heartbroken and wanted to seek guidance in other sources and meet new people I can be with. But even then I came to the study with a VERY open mind. I was respectful but my mind was open nonetheless.

We have covered everything, including death, sins, forgiveness and the meaning behind Saturday. I've agreed with some of them, however there are MANY things I don't agree with at all. Some even downright disgust me and leads my faith elsewhere. At one point I thought that once the studies were over they give me the decision of either becoming a full Christian because I know God's word or be on my merry way knowing the consequences that await me later on.

Well on today's study session the teacher said that now that I knew about God's word that I should start going to Church on Saturdays, following the Bible to a "T" and pretty much leave out any quirks that make the guy posting here today. What's worst is that everyone's happy that I am slowly converting when in my mind and heart I feel very torn apart.

See, I'm not quite ready to make the commitment. They ask me to faithfully believe in stuff I don't agree with. I also feel as if they are trying to manipulate my emotions with promises of a better life if I follow their words or eternal punishment if I don't. I want to be able to be friends with people that either don't believe or have a different way of looking at faith. Hell, I want to play Dungeons and Dragons as much as I want!

My friends may not be perfect but I like them. These are people that have a radical way of looking at religion,  to the point where they downright mock and insult it. I don't want to be separated from them simple because we have different beliefs.

But at the same time, since many eyes are on me I am afraid of letting everyone down. I don't want to lead my family into believing that their newfound faith is worthless because I believe that we MUST believe in something, whether it be a religion, a thought or even a simple belief. I don't want to make anyone upset.

But what's really at stake is what I want in life.

So the question here is...

Should I follow my own heart and make my own life according to my beliefs, offending the people I love in the process, or should I do what everyone believes is the right thing to do and give up everything I have right now (personal thoughts, dreams, friends) in hopes of a better life awaiting me?

I know religion can be a taboo subject, but please, this is about what I should do with my life, not about the value of a religion.

Nintendo Gaming / Solid Snake shown off at TGS...
« on: September 20, 2007, 07:08:30 AM »
Konami did a special Metal Gear 20th anniversary presentation today.  They showed video footage of nearly every game in the series, including video and pics of Snakes in Brawl!

You can see pics of the presentation here.

All I want to say is...

1. If Snake's supposed to be a secret character why is Konami putting him on display everywhere? HUH? HUH? HUH?

2. Snake's profile will be revealed on the Brawl website tonight!

EDIT: In that last Brawl pic...DAMN is Snake having a massive wedgie!

EDIT 2: That last pic also confirms the return of the Homerun Bat and Mr. Saturn.

Nintendo Gaming / The history behind Super Smash Bros. Melee
« on: September 18, 2007, 11:09:31 AM »
This is a cool collection of You Tube videos detailing some of Melee's smallest details, like stage details, character moves, history and such.

They are fascinating to watch, especially when he touches upon some of the more obscure details.

You can watch the videos here..

Some warnings, though...

- The guy can be VERY redundant, as in he state the obvious many a time (Mario's yellow cape came from Mario world? NO WAI!!!!!)

- He sometimes makes some Comic Book Guy like comments (OMG this piece of the stage is not exactly like in the original game!)

- His videos are VERY long, and at times its like watching an old guy give a History lesson (in one of the Earthbound videos he actually drags the characters all across Fourside just so we can get an idea of how big it is! >.< ).

Nintendo Gaming / Online play predictions
« on: September 18, 2007, 07:01:03 AM »
Now that only mode has been officially confirmed here are some predictions as to what may happen when online mode is finally on the hands of players and the gaming media.

1. The game will be much slower than Melee
Actually S_B was the one that made this prediction long ago. If lag is going to be an issue in the online mode them they must turn down the speed in order to accommodate long distance fights. When Melee slowed down the game became unplayable so its a wiser decision to slow the gameplay down so that even if there is lag going on the game is still playable.

2. Screen shaking will be gone
Melee was guilty of shaking like crazy whenever a smash happened or something grand occurred on screen. Once again, if lag is going to be an issue the screen must stay still. I mean, there were times in which Melee slowed down because the screen was shaking like crazy. This could be overkill in online Brawl so I suspect they might tone it down or completely remove it.

3. Some stages will not be available in online mode
Its obvious that Brawl will be the home to some crazy stages, some which might be too crazy for online mode because of, you guessed it, lag.

4. There will be some lost potential
One complaint that has always haunted Nintendo's online titles is that potential is always lost.  For example, in online Animal Crossing DS the villagers always remained inside and online 4 villagers were allowed online. Even Mario Strikers Charged, which is the best online Nintendo title to date, has some lost potential. So don't be surprised if there are reviewers and players complaining about how they want to do MORE in online Brawl.

That's what I can remember for now.

Nintendo Gaming / Some SSB Melee videos you MUST watch!
« on: September 16, 2007, 04:25:06 PM »
Today I was surfing through You Tube when I found a couple of SSB Melee videos that were beyond awesome.

The first one is called "The Wrath of Giga Bowser". The story is about how Bowser is tired of being abused so he turns into Giga Bowser and goes on a rampage.

The video was done using the infamous "debug menu" cheat code so he could get some shots that would've been impossible on the regular game.

He put a lot of time, effort and patience into it. I just love some of the shots he pulled off, like the shot of Peach just before she gets crushed by Giga Bowser. Oh and the ending is great!

You can watch the video here.

The other video is a two parter called "The Last Tier War". It pokes fun at the many SSB Melee tiers floating around the net. Its done by the same guy who did the Giga Bowser one, although this one features voice overs.

The first part is here. Part 2 is here.

Nintendo Gaming / IGN's SSB Brawl FAQ...
« on: September 03, 2007, 05:42:49 AM »
IGN recently posted their big FAQ/Guide on Brawl. It's basically posting info from the SSB Brawl website but with some extra additions (like a brief history of SSB and such).

What intrigues me is the Q&A part. One of the questions goes like this:
Wi-Fi, or no Wi-Fi?
Question: Will Super Smash Bros. Brawl be online?

All reports indicate that yes, it will. Brawl has been planned from the beginning to be a flagship title for Nintendo's free Wi-Fi Connection service, and though the feature hasn't yet been 100% confirmed, you can rest soundly in the knowledge that it's an almost surefire guarantee.

Either they know something we don't or they are speculating because online mode was still up in the air, specially since they came out and said that they had online mode running perfectly in duel mode but were having problems running 4 player battles online.

Man, I wish Nintendo would just come out and confirm/deny Wi-fi mode.

You can read the rest of IGN's FAQ here.

Nintendo Gaming / Wario Ware hate?
« on: September 02, 2007, 06:55:37 AM »
NOTE:I didn't know where to put this thread so I figured I would put it on the Nintendo board. Mods if this thread is out of place feel free to move it elsewhere.

On another forum that I visit the unveiling of the Wario Ware stage in Brawl has opened a Pandora's box of hate and annoyance towards the series, some of them calling it stupid and boring.

This is certainly not the first time I've seen fans express some sort of dislike towards the series and as much as I love the series I understand to an extend why the hate.

First of all, Nintendo seems to favor it over the Wario Land series, Wario's first independent series away from the Mario universe. That series was already developed and featured a very unique look to Bizarro Wario. The series had a very dynamic gameplay mechanic in which Wario was transformed into a lot of stuff just to accomplish the goal of the stage. The games also featured some very quirky humor that is very Wario. Its no wonder those series had its very loyal following, myself being part of it.

Then came Wario Ware, a messed up series that took the gaming world by storm. Wario Land's "charming" appeal was updated to acid trip status, featuring gameplay that is best  defined as spastic. But best of all it gave Wario an even more original universe, giving him a brand new setting and characters to work it. It made him even more independent from the Mario universe. The original GBA game proved to be a hit and thus Nintendo made some more. Its such a big hit that the original WL series took a backseat (even if Master of Disguise was made it flopped and was a critical failure), which would lead towards some hate from the fans.

And now that Wario is finally in Brawl he is featured in his Wario Ware uniform and has a stage based on the series (with an original character showing up as a playable character more than likely) it seems to have fanned the flames even more. What about Wario's dash? Wario's castle? Cpt. Syrup? His transforming caps? What about his form changing powers? It looks as if Wario's other life has been forgotten at Nintendo...

In my opinion as much as I love both Wario series I favor the WW series a tad more if only because of the universe they created just for him. Plus the games make for a very lively evening. But it is unfortunate that Wario Land seems to have been forgotten at Nintendo.

So, what are your thoughts? Do you have a hate towards the WW series or are you neutral?

NWR Forums Discord / Yu-gi-oh! The abridged series
« on: September 01, 2007, 09:33:54 AM »
A friend of mine on another forums posted this series called "Yu-gi-oh! The abridged series". Being a former Yugi fan I clicked on it...AND ITS F*CKING HILARIOUS!

Seriously, the series is a fan dub of the TV shows and its a deep stab at cliched animes, tired storylines and the business practices at 4kids entertainment.

You can either watch episodes individually or download the whole seasons via torrent here.

My favorite is the abridged version of the movie. Some great and hilarious moments!

It also made me realize that I was silly for being a fan of the TV show. I never realized how silly, stupid and idiotic the whole series was and how the 4kids version butched it to no end (INVISIBLE GUNS!!!!).

Nintendo Gaming / New franchises that need to be present in Brawl
« on: August 21, 2007, 02:21:26 PM »
OK people, this is going to be a little different from the character, sticker, trophy, stage and music threads. In here post the new Nintendo franchises that SHOULD be in Brawl, no matter how (character, sticker, trophy, stage and music).

The new franchises must have come around the time or right after Melee was released.

Here are some of my picks (I will also post some of the franchises that are already present in Brawl):
Animal Crossing: AC is already in Brawl via a stage and an item. Even if AC was originally released for the N64 the series began to take off on the GC and became a worldwide smash on the DS. So big that an anime movie based on the games was based! So it makes sense that AC has a presence in Brawl.

Nintendogs: One of the puppies is an assist trophy and a Nintendogs has already been shown.

Ouendan/Elite Beat Agents: I can't stress enough how they need to be in Brawl one way or another. The games may not have the sale numbers of AC, Wii Sports and other titles, but they are certainly very well received among the gaming community and their attitude just screams of a representation in Brawl.

Luigi's Mansion: This will be more than likely. In the newest Mario Sports games there is always a Luigi's Mansion themed stage. With the stage could come an updated Luigi character complete with his Vacuum cleaner from the game, and even an appearance by E.Gadd as a sticker or assist trophy.

Mario and Luigi: Technically, the series isn't new because it starts the Mario characters. However, the games feature such unique stories and characters that it wouldn't hurt to put them in Brawl somehow. I could see them making stickers out of the great character artwork.

Pikmin: Only two games, yet many fans adore the characters (myself included). Pikmin was already represented via trophies in Melee, but they need to step it up by making a Pikmin stage, make Olimar a playable character or turn the characters into either trophies or stickers.

This is what I have so far. Feel free to add onto this list!

General Chat / Friends of family?
« on: August 20, 2007, 09:16:58 AM »
Lately, I've been wondering if I value my friends more than my family. I grew up in a household that believes that friends (and in some cases girlfriends and boyfriends) come and go but family is always there. Yet I also believe that some friends are just as important as they too help in many ways on your growth. So, what is your take on the issue? Do you find yourself caring more about your friends than your family or vice versa?

General Gaming / What's with EA and fighting games?
« on: August 20, 2007, 08:26:22 AM »
This weekend I rented "Def Jam: Icon"  for my 360 and came to the realization that EA seems to have trouble developing fighting games.

The main issue is speed. First, the fighters move at an incredibly slow pace. Moving them around is like a chore.   Second they perform kicks and punches very slowly as well, making it, IMHO, an unrealistic fighter. It was so bad that at times it put me to sleep and didn't bother with it afterwards.

The reason I mention this is because this problem was present in another fighting game done by EA, although a different type of fighting game, Fight Night Round 3. The characters also moved slowly and their punches lacked speed and strength.

It just seems that EA can't make compelling and fun fighters. Now I may be wrong since I only played two of their games, but as a fighting game fan I find it weird how these fighters are surprisingly slow in execution.

In real life fighters throw punches and kicks as fast as possible. There is no delay when executing the move. Fighters also move at a reasonable pace. This element has been present in nearly all fighting games, including boxing games. Hell, even Wii Boxing got things right as the characters move and throw punches fast, making for some exciting matches.

So to EA next time to make a fighting game keep in mind speed. Fighters don't move around slowly nor throw slow punches and kicks. That's not how fighting matches are, whether it be street fighting or boxing.

Nintendo Gaming / Third Party character speculation and analysis thread
« on: August 14, 2007, 10:32:01 AM »
With Brawl being the first SSB game to feature a third party character in the roster (Solid Snake) the decision opened up a Pandora's box of speculation, rumors, anticipation and wishful thinking. Sakurai confirmed that there could be 2 or 3 more third party characters along with Solid Snake. Those characters must have appeared at least once on a Nintendo console. This means that the third party company must have a close relationship with Nintendo before any of their characters can appear in the game.

So with this let's speculate which third party characters could appear in the game and if they are worthy of representation.

Here are the third party companies that have supported Nintendo before along with the characters that could be featured in Brawl, the first being the most likely. The list also features possible third party characters that could be assist trophies.

Let's start with...

Sega
Sonic the Hedgehog: As I already mentioned in the other character thread the minute Solid Snake appeared on the first E3 trailer the first name that was spoken afterwards was Sonic. It would the fanboys' ultimate dream come true and a big event to hype. Even if the reps have come out and said that they have no plans on including Sonic in the game its more than likely that they ARE working on it as we speak as this would be one big marketing push towards Nintendo and Sega, perhaps even more than Mario and Sonic at the Olympics. It would be extremely idiotic of them to dismiss the potential and breaking the hearts of MANY fans.

Other characters:
Nights (Nights Journey of Dreams)
Ai Ai (Super Monkey Ball)

Assist trophy characters:
Tails
Knuckles

Square-Enix
Moogle: Even if the Chocobos have been around longer than the Moogles they have just as much personality, if not more, than the Chocobos.

Other characters:
Chocobo
Black Mage
White Mage
Red Mage
Slime (Dragon Quest)
Main hero (Dragon Quest)
Sora (Kingdom Hearts)

Assist trophy characters:
Cactuar
Shiva
Ifrit
Carbunkle
Bahamut
Slime (Dragon Quest)

Hudson Soft
Bomberman: Considering that the SSB series has always been a mascot fighter its more than likely that third parties will submit their well known mascots and Bomberman just happens to be their main man!

Other characters:
Master Higgins (Adventure Island)
Bonk

Assist trophy characters:
...Any enemy from Bomberman?? (Help me out here!)

Capcom
Megaman: Capcom's Megaman is perhaps the most overqualified character in the list. 7 of his classic games are on the Nintendo platforms. His spin off games were first featured on the Nintendo consoles. Hell, in a recent poll asking which console should Megaman appear in the Wii won by a landslide! So if there's one character in Capcom's class that deserves a spot Megaman is it!

Other characters:
Leon (Resident Evil 4)
Jill Valentine (Resident Evil)
Viewtiful Joe
Ryu (Street Fighter)
Sir Arthur (Ghost and Ghouls/Ghoblins)

Assist trophies:
Roll (Megaman)
Zero (Megaman)
Zombie (Resident Evil)
Tron Bonne (Megaman)
Rush (Megaman)

Namco/Bandai (Banco)
Pac-Man: Once again, mascot rule applies here. Pac-Man is Namco's official mascot and if they were to choose Pac-Man would be it. Not to mention he has already crossed paths with Nintendo's Mario (Charles Martinet was the announcer for Pac-Man versus and Pac-Man was a selectable character in the Mario Kart arcade game).

Other characters:
The guy from Disaster (this is based on the fact that Nintendo now owns Monolith Soft, but I may be wrong)
Lloyd Irving (Tales of Symphonia)
Taki (Soul Calibur)

Assist Trophy characters:
Ghosts (Pac-Man)
Ms. Pac-Man

Ubisoft
Before I continue with the characters I want to tell you a little backstory. Last year a rumor surfaced saying that Ubisoft had submitted 4 characters to appear in Brawl. While the rumor was never confirmed or denied the possibility was likely. Ubisoft was the first third party to support Nintendo and the Wii since day one and that has paid off in the biggest way possible. Not to mention that the Rabbids are a big phenomenon right now.

This is still a rumor that is likely BS, but with SSB you never know what to expect.

Now onto the characters!

Rayman: You know the drill. Ubi's main man, even though lately he has taken a backseat to the Rabbids he was the first character to be submitted for approval. It could happen since all of his games have appeared on the Nintendo consoles and one of them is a massive Nintendo exclusive hit (Raving Rabbids).

Other characters:
Jade (Beyond Good and Evil)
The Prince (Prince of Persia)
Sam Fisher (Splinter Cell)
Rabbid (Raving Rabbids)

Assist trophy characters:
Globox (Rayman)
Rabbid (Raving Rabbids)

So let's sum this up. The most likely candidates to represent third parties in Brawl are:
Sonic
Moogle
Pac-Man
Rayman
Bomberman
Megaman

If its true that Nintendo is considering 2 or 3 more characters that means some of these will not make it, so the top 3 would be...
Sonic
Moogle
Megaman

And there you have it! Since I am very absent minded I may have forgotten other characters and companies.  Feel free to add in anyone I may have missed. Remember that this is all speculation so I may be wrong.

Enjoy!

Nintendo Gaming / Original Super Smash Bros. on the Virtual Console?
« on: August 10, 2007, 01:44:57 PM »
A friend of mine just made me realize something...

You know how in honor of Metroid Prime 3 Nintendo is going to release the original Metroid and Super Metroid on the VC? Well, what if Nintendo could take the same initiative with Brawl? I mean, what better way to celebrate the release of Brawl (with possible online play) than releasing the game that started a phenomenon in mascot fighters!

Makes sense. They released Paper Mario months after Super Paper Mario was released and now they are doing it with the Metroid games so its only fair that they release the original SSB just in time for the release of Brawl around the world.

What do you think?

General Gaming / Why do all 360 games look the same?
« on: July 30, 2007, 11:43:49 AM »
First of all, I am very happy with my 360. This is just something I noticed while playing some demos and games.

Has anyone noticed that some 360 games look the same in terms of graphical design, character modeling, textures and even small graphical touches like blur and bloom?

In the last few days I've played the following games:
- Perfect Dark Zero
- Kameo
- The Darkness
- F.E.A.R
- Call of duty 2
- Fight Night Round 3
- Project GOTHAM racing
- Lost Planet
- Dead rising

In all of them I noticed something; they all share similar graphical traits, textures and even engines. The only exceptions are Dead Rising and Lost Planet. They both share a very unique graphics engine that separates them from the other 360 games (I personally love the blur they use in the animation). But many of the games look somewhat similar to each other.

Do all of these games use a special 360 engine that comes with the development kits or is this the curse of hi def next gen graphics?

It doesn't bug me that much, but I think developers should be more creative and make something unique every once in a while. After a while it begins to get old.

Or am I missing something here...

Nintendo Gaming / Wii controls vs. Traditional controls
« on: July 30, 2007, 11:10:34 AM »
Last night I rented Fight Night Round 3 for my 360. Throughout the whole thing I was thinking "Man, this game would be so much fun with the Wiimote and nunchuck, like in Wii Boxing". While Fight Night 3 is fun the controls are kinda annoying. The joystick punching system feels weird. I had to switch to a more traditional setup because they felt un-natural, like they were trying to implement Wii-mote like innovation onto a traditional gaming set up (I'm well aware that EA has been using this system since the PS2 and XBOX era.  I am merely using the Wiimote as an example here). Even when I got a hold of how the controls worked I still felt like they could've been better, that Wiimote controls could get the job done.

Has anyone felt like this? Has anyone played a normal console game thinking that Wiimote controls could make it better? What games inspire this feeling in you?

I know many feel RE 4 feels better with a Wiimote and Nunchuck than with the GC and PS2 controllers, so there's a start.

General Gaming / I need suggestions (about getting an XBOX 360)
« on: July 18, 2007, 08:30:53 AM »
I've been thinking of getting a 360 for a while now, but never had the money to do so, until today. I went to Gamestop and sold ALL of my old game collection (DS, GC, PS2 and GBA). I now have over 500 dollars worth of store credit, but than enough to get me a 360.

But before I do, I have some questions. What should I do?

- Buy an used Core system for 250 bucks and buy the HD separately

- Buy a brand new Core system and buy the HD separately

- Buy a Premium system

- Save the money for something else

On one hand, I don't want to hang onto all that credit and I must use it. Frankly, outside Galaxy and Brawl for the Wii I am not looking forward to anything else, so might as well buy it. On the other, I don't know if its a good idea to blow all the store credit on the 360 and games.

What should I do?

The two Wii launch titles that everyone loves to hate (but many more people love ) are getting sequels!

First off is Red Steel 2. We all knew that the game was already in development, but it wasn't officially announced till now. They announced it at a convention in Cannes. According to the article, they hope to improve on the sword fighting.

The translated article can be found here.

Everyone's favorite hot loli golf game gets a sequel! This time featuring the appearance of Ryu Hayabusa and his girl sidekick (don't know her name) from Ninja Gaiden! The scan can be found here. Confirmation that a Ninja Gaiden game is in the works for the Wii?

Nintendo Gaming / What the hell is this?
« on: June 11, 2007, 08:09:57 AM »
So Capcom took Nintendo's "Nintendogs" and Bandai's (?) "The Dog" game for the Wii and turned it into...

A dress up...fortune.telling...mini game based..puppy game???

Seriously, I have no idea what this game is about. All I know is that it looks weird and fruity beyond all hell...

Though the puppies are kinda cute! I know a friend of mine's chihuahua obsessed mother would kill to own this game, if only because you get to dress up the chihuahua breed.
