General Chat / Re: 2 Celebrity Free Passes. Who do you choose?
« on: August 17, 2011, 10:56:44 PM »
Can you imagine how incredibly hard it would be to get any action with your female celebrity of choice?  These chicks are super hot and have huge egos.  They're used to really handsome guys and/or rich guys chasing after them.  Why the **** would they care about you?

Maybe because we are really handsome and/or rich?    :P:

I've never had this conversation myself though.  I'll edit this later to put in who I would choose if I did it.

TalkBack / Re: New Wii Hardware Revision Drops GameCube Support
« on: August 17, 2011, 10:45:55 PM »
I'm pretty sure 90% of the Wii userbase has no idea that the Wii even plays Gamecube games and might not even know what the Gamecube is.  Anyone who cares already has a Wii, so it's not really a big deal.  Nintendo never drew much attention to the backwards compatibility in the first place.  I think they've learned that if you don't have it you can resell the old games.

Exactly, except with new Wii owners I would change it to 99.9%.

This isn't a redesign or a relaunch to sell more Wii's, this is just a cost cutting decision.  The PS3 did this ages ago with the ps2 chip.  GC backwards compatability is pretty much never used and won't be missed, especially by people who are going to be buying a Wii in the future.  Let's be honest, people that cared abou the BC abilities bought a Wii a while ago because they like Nintendo games.  It is pretty much a nonissue.

As for the Wii U not having Gamecube ports, this will most likely be solved via the front USB ports on the console. I would bet my bottom dollar that Gamecube will return as a Virtual Console with full support for all Gamecube games.

GC games on the WiiU will be played with the Ucontroller or a classic pad.  They didn't release a special N64 controller for the GC afterall.

You have to give me a little more than just the word Faces unless it is the Myst like game called F.A.C.E.S. I got from a google search

You have all kinds of old and new videogame stuff Uncle Bob.  I don't know where I would be able to put all that stuff.

Signed up for Good Old Games the other day. Amazing!  It was breeze and now I can some of the best old pc games ever for about 5 bucks.

Puzzle Quest (do not get puzzle quest Galactrix, it is more terrible than you could imagine), Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes (excellent puzzle combat if the fantasy setting doesn't turn her off), and Meteos if she likes fast paced puzzles.

I would like to say Toe Jam & Earl are not platforming heroes.  Although the second game had some the first was more of a rogue-like kind of thing.

Grasshopper needs to focus on cheaper platforms like the Wii or portables.  I like their games but they are just too out there to be successful when the budgets go up.

TalkBack / Re: 3DS Sells 207,000 Units in First Week of Price Drop

Staring at any screen too long can hurt your eyes. Doesn't matter if the screen is 3D or not... although I hear those Kindle things Amazon sells have screens that are easy on the eyes, but I never tried them so I don't know about that.

Ebook readers use E-ink.  I have one and the best way I could describe it is like a futuristic etch-a-sketch.  It isn't a a screen capable of movent but basically getting rid of one page and replacing it with the next.  It is great for the eyes since it is just like reading a newspaper (or an etch-sketch capable of drawing extremely detailed pictures)

I honestly have trouble believing parents even know about the 3d effect's possible negative side for young children.  I know the 3ds warns about it but the regular DS and Wii had about a millions epilepsy and other warning things.  I think even attentive parents have trained themselves to ignore this stuff in products they buy since the chances of it affecting them are slight.

General Gaming / Old pc games/nostalgia
« on: August 15, 2011, 02:21:46 AM »
I was looking through some old stuff I had when I stumbled upon a couple of old pc games.  A few were more recent like Homeworld and XIII but I noticed I still had a few games on floppy disks.  Now I have no way to actually play these games right now but I can't bring myself to toss them. I'd like to play them again if I could.

The games are Waxworks.

I loved this game.  It came with a little wheel you needed to spin to get the right password to start.  It was brutal though.  At its heart it is an adventure game where you need to find the right items to get past different problems although there is quite a bit of fighting.  The only level I could beat was the graveyard one and that unfortunately is the one you need to beat last because somebody would instakill you if you hadn't beaten the others.  There was one in Egypt, Jack the Ripper's London, a Graveyard, and some mine populated with people/plant mutants.
This is probably one of the goriest games I have ever played.  Getting killed would result in something like a plant monster tearing off your arm and head in gruesome detail.

The other was The Horde

Yes that is Kirk Cameron on the cover.  He did the voice but I can't remember if they had the popular-at-the-time live action stuff.
This game was great.  You had to build and fortify your town before a horde of red monsters would come and eat everything while you fought them by spinning wildly with your sword.  It had some great humor and cool special items that you could find that did things like shoot meteors from the sky.

Go look around your house.  Do you have any old games just hanging around that you remember?

Do you have some old pc game that you really liked and would like to find again?

Do you want to talk about an old game game you really liked but don't feel it deserves a new thread?
Post it here.

When I got the ice beam in the original Metroid.  Suddenly I could freeze the rippers that just moved  around and jump on them to get to a higher area.  I loved when the the enemeies would swoop down and get ice beamed at the last moment, freezing directly above your head.

TalkBack / Re: Investors Heavily Criticize Nintendo's Performance
« on: August 13, 2011, 10:55:33 AM »
The request to put games on mobile phones is idiotic but investors have a right to be angry with Nintendo.

But they got angry and said things after the price drop.  Nintendo just did something about the problem and what they did seems to be the entire reason they suddenly care about the problem.  These investors are 100% reactionary.

That is why Nintendo shouldn't and won't listen to them.

If Nintendo wanted to they could just do a buyback, they have a shitload of money.
These are just trend following investors that after jumping in after the Wii/DS catapulted want Nintendo to follow them to the next trend.

The mere idea of it is stupid.
The biggest Iphone games don't make near the money Nintendo's biggest games do.  It frankly doesn't look like any will in the forseeable future.  Even if the worst possible predictions happen Mario will destroy iOS games this winter.  The mobile phone game market is VASTLY overrated.  Apps are typically packaged together with games making it even more confusing.  I think mobile games will have some effect on Nintendo.  Particularly games like Brain Age, Language Coach, Crosswords, and Recipes will have difficulties because they are easily and cheaply replicated on the phone.  The end of handheld gaming seems just like ridiculous Apple hype, which gets hyped more than any company I have ever seen.

Hardware is one of Nintendo's biggest strengths and anyone who watched the success of the DS and Wii would realize that.  Not to mention royalties they get from other companies for making the hardware.

Let's be honest, most investors know little to nothing about a lot of things they invest in.  They follow trends and many jump around.

I'm expecting playable first party games when they show it next.  Not the demos they had before but pieces of actual games they plan to release.
I don't expect it to be shown again for a while.

They fixed my problem sort of.  I can now buy things from the store but only from a specific version of the Steam website.  I can't even use the Steam client to buy things making it just a bloated piece of drm/ad machine.  They sent me an email saying they fixed the problem with a link that said "use this to complete your purchase."  I thought that it would lead me to a place where I could finish buying the sale item from the weekend. Nope. Just a new link to the store, what I wanted to get no longer exists.

Can I take you up that offer for an item box SUPER?  Steam ID spinningcats

I hate don't like breasts quite as much that are just unnaturally far apart. That's usually only a thing with fake ones though. And nipple to cup size ration is very important. Small boobs with huge nipples just look weird to me. However, big boobs with tiny nipples are fine, if a bit strange.

fixed

I don't think I could bring myself to hate a pair of breasts that killed my parents.

Breasts don't get enough love.  Maybe because it is more socially acceptable you hear about great butts all the time but never hear about great tittays.

We need rap songs about awesome boobs, butts are overplayed.

I don't really like micro transactions.
I hate them too.  Everything is available to you without buying with a few caveats.
Items are given out randomly and given for gettting certain achievments to pay and non-paying people.  That might mean that the item you really want might take some time to get but you can get it for free.
The free version is limited to only 50 items.  Now this is a lot of items but there are many more in the game.  You can delete some if you want to get others.
Free members can't initiate trades to get new items.
Hats don't seem to randomly drop but they don't effect gameplay at all.
With any purchase no matter how small you get bumped to the paid version so it costs as little as 50 cents.  Whenever Valve can sort out their problems with me paying I'll do it once and get bumped up.

Since I have to plunk down 5 bucks already I'll probably go for a key and take you up on that offer.  I had some crates but I deleted them all because they were just wasting my limited item slots.  Can crates be any item or are they limited to specific ones?  Its frankly pretty ingenious of them to have several roadblocks you hit while playing the game to see which one brings you to buy something.  I'd be upset but this game is well worth the pittance I'll put down.

Can I buy games with stuff in the wallet or just Mann Co. crap?  I would really like my leftover money go to a future purchase instead of hats and keys.

On the game itself.  Who at Valve thinks that "no random crits" is a big negative?  They can save your ass sometimes but a weapon that you know is going to critical hit somebody or do something else every time is so much better since you can plan your attack around it.  For example, I can't see myself ever using the regular shotgun for the engineer when sentry kills give you critical hits with the other one.

They may have suckered me into actually buying something from the Mann Co. store.  I didn't realize free players have an item limit of 50 and I reached the limit the other day and now have been deleting all my duplicates.  Since some of the items change the gameplay a lot I may pick up something.  I see guys playing with the Dead Ringer and I really want it, but I would rather buy something cheap and unlock it later.

Does anyone know what the absolute cheapest thing is?  Looking online it seems to be keys.  Assuming the shop works for me is it really true that I need to put 5 dollars in my "wallet" instead of just buying something?  That seems like stupid xboxlive points stuff and I don't really expect it on the PC.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Will the Wii U support Trophies/Achievements?

There are only a few games I actually like achievements in but Nintendo really has to include it.  Single player games just need to forget about it because they end up being given out simply for beating the game or doing the bonus levels, things that are already getting done and I enjoy doing.  Team Fortress 2 has achievements that I like.  Just playing multiplayer I keep getting new ones.  Instead of them being the actual goal of the game, which I hate, they seem like a cool extra that I run into during normal gameplay every time I do something cool or new.
