General Chat / Projectors
« on: September 01, 2011, 03:33:23 AM »
Since I pretty much watch all my movies and tv shows on the computer I've been considering getting a projector to connect to it.

I don't particularly care if it has a high resolution or if it allows high framerates but I do care that the picture is clear and smooth and I've seen quite a few that looked pretty terrible.

Now I don't know much about projectors so I wondered if anyone here has some advice.  I've heard stories of people buying ones that seemed good but when they acutally projected it onto a larger surface it looked terrible.  Uncle Bob has both and good and bad projector stories posted. I don't want to spend too much money since I don't care all that much for the high end features but I would prefer one that wouldn't break or need a bulb replaced every month.
Any suggestions or advice when buying a projector?

I like the flying one better too.  It focuses much more on the painted style that I like.

LOL, good luck on mine since it has no face.

You have tons of really, really tiny faces.  I thought about going with red eybrows for more visibility but I was scared off by the sheer ferocity of them.

It's a Kirby game, everyone is going to buy this game. especially fan of the original games.

I'd believe you were going to buy it if you said it a little more angrily.

I feel like angryizing (angry-eyesing?) everybody who posts here from now on.

Ultimate Partybear had a solid E rating despite showing everyone his balls in every post. He's just having fun and partying.

Now we need to call the cops and put that bear put on the sex offenders list.

What character is in your author icon, SixthAngel? I don't recognize it.

It's Domingo from Shining Force.

Phantasy Star 4.  The earlier ones are all overshadowed by it.

Angry eyebrows are not appropriate for children under 10.

Of course.  Look at my avatar.  Totally not appropriate for children under 10.

Look at your avatar.  Happy smiling guy greased up and wrestling some guy naked with a condom glued to his forehead.  E for everyone.

But now

Time to put up a disclaimer so children under 10 don't stumble into your posts.

The sword brings it to overkill territory. Far to mature.

I look at this as the same sort of thing as Motion Plus which started out as an addon module which could be purchased separately or came bundled with certain games but then later was integrated into the controller by default. I think that's how its going to be with this thing too. It will probably cost about $20 to buy it separately, and there will be certain games which will come bundled with it. Hell, it will probably come bundled with the 3DS SKU itself...

Then as soon as Nintendo makes the first revision of the 3DS it will be integrated into it by default, just like how Motion Plus was integrated into the Wiimote Plus by default. This way it will become a new standard, and at the same time those who bought the original 3DS model won't be screwed because they can just get the addon module and they'll be good to go.

So seeing how this same company (Nintendo) has already done basically the same thing with Motion Plus I'm going to chalk this rumor up as very plausible. I'm not going to say its probable, but its certainly plausible.

Motion+ is a controller not the whole system.  Also  I would still like an answer of HOW an attachment could even connect.  The only answer I can thing of would be making it wireless, insanely draining the 3ds battery and requiring a battery/charger for this thing.

Have you played any of these games SixthAngel? I don't have a problem with the idea in theory, but the games take it to a negative extreme.

I've played a bit of Tri but never really got into it.  It didnt' help that none of the menus in the game I had were in English.  I agree with with you on using potions though.

Yeah, there are a good amount of times where I feel like I'm fighting the controls more than I'm fighting the monsters.

People might hate this, but I always considered the controls a "feature" instead of a "bug".

I agree.  Controls should be slow sometimes.  If people are fighting the controls in some games it is because they don't realize the controls are supposed to limit them.  Instantaneous reaction speed should not be a priority in every game.  I rather enjoyed the first four Resident Evil's controls because they limited your controls.  It made mistakes more apparent and threats much more dangerous.

Even more than screwing people over it would make compatability a nightmare.  Suddenly their entire first year advantage of userbase over vita gets thrown out the window for any game that supports dual analog. (Are there even that many outside of shooters that a Japan centric handheld probably doesn't care about?)

Also think about the feasability of developing an analog add-on.  Could it even connect to the system without destroying the battery with wireless?  These rumors are linked and if one is flat out crap the other probably is too.

238
Seems like BS.  I don't even know how second analog stick could even plug in.  Is there some kind of slot or would the bs rumor want you to use wireless?
A second analog isn't the problem, it is games not being there yet.  Nintendo should be smart enough to realize that

After watching some of Wakfu I've changed my mind about flash animation.  Some of the action scenes are absolutely amazing and if I wasn't told it was flash I wouldn't know.

Wile E. Coyote and the Roadrunner were my favorite of the original Looney Toons and I know I will just be repulsed by making them cg so it is a show I will avoid.

True Blood

Alcide might actually have a point after just being there for the whole season.  After the Sookie, Eric thing becomes so sweet my teeth hurt it seems it will finally end now that the witch is controlling him.

One thing I did like was Hoyt and Jason's reactions to Jessica.  After Jessica has that dream sequence where he was pathetic I was glad to see the real him stand up for himself and show that she really didn't know him at all.  That and Jason finally turned down some poontang.  There are still like 5 million different plots with the characters that now are all loosely connected but don't seem to have much to do with each other.

Wilfred

I saw the first episode.  I wasn't really sure what to expect when I started it except that Elijah Wood was the lead so there were talented people involved.  I like the concept and a few parts really got me.  I'll keep watching.

I didn't know about those remakes Sundoulos.  They look awesome and are apparently free.

Anyone looking for updated older games keep an eye on the XLengine.  It is basically a whole new engine for the games Daggerfall, Dark Forces, Blood and a few others.  I tried to get into Daggerfall, when it was free but just couldn't do it.  I'm hoping this can give it a bit of spark.

Also, Dosbox for anybody in this thread who wants to play old Dos games despite having a new computer.

Can you redownload the games whenever you want?
Yes you can.  They also come with a pdf of the original manual and quite often the soundtrack along with other bonuses.

Also does anybody remember Red Baron? That game owns.
I never played Red Baron but its availabe on GOG in a deal with the Incredible Machine.  I did play the crap out of the Incredible Machine when I was younger.

The flight games I played were Wing Commander, which I was terrible at, and the Star Wars X-wing game.  I can't remember the X wing game very well except that I always picked the Y wing beceause I thought it's weapons were much cooler.

AC isn't exactly cheap to try but I guess I could hand her Clash of Heroes and Reflect Missile since I have those already. I doubt that she'll like either but we'll see.

The whole style of Clash of Heroes turns off a lot of Mom types right away with the anime style story telling but I have seen them get into the actual puzzles before.  I think Puzzle Quest is easier for older people to get into for that reason.  The puzzle board also looks much more familiar instead of lines of bears.

What makes it different from Indian Indian?

Colonization of the restaurant?  Oppression of the shop holders by the East India Company?  Big waxed moustaches?

Seriously though I imagine its probably less spicy to cater to non-Indian tastes and some of the spices might be harder or more expensive to buy in England.  That generally happens when countries or areas known for spicy food bring it somewhere else.

To expand on your Chinese food example food brought to other countries tends to be from one area.  Chinese food in America generally is from only a few regions and doesn't represent the actualy variety of food in the country.  That set of food tends to be what people think of as Chinese food and what they expect at a restaurant so more places make it.  Indian food is the same way in that the variety of food brought to other countries doesn't truly represent the different kinds of food in the country.

Might I suggest "Arcanum" and "Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption"? Two of the better RPGs to ever be released. Both presented gloriously through GOG. I still have my old CDs for both, but ended up buying them again just for convenience. Unreal Tournament 2004 is another good steal on there.

I already picked up Arcanum and Redemption.  I signed up to get some birthday gifts and picked those out along with Fallout, and Baldurs gate.  I also got the enitre Oddboxx of 4 games on steam for $7.50 because of the sale. (won't open for some retarded reason though. freaking steam)

GOG is great.  It absolutely blows Steam out of the water.  Signing up took literally 1 minute and buying the the games another.  You don't even have to download an external program.  The entirely optional downloader is like 2 MB. The place is great.  I've downloaded Arcanum but haven't gotten around to playing it yet.  I'll probably start it this weekend.
There are so many great oldschool games on GOG for about 6 bucks that it is always tempting to pick up something new.  It is the perfect website for this thread.  I'm thinking I'll go for the Space Quest pack next.

The Big Question is:
Will there be a new Exclusive Monster Hunter when it launches?

Not a chance it will be there on the launch date.  Launches are the time to release new ideas and games to give them attention, unless you care about pushing the system.  Better to release a guaranteed seller like MH after the thing has actually sold some.

I also had the unfortunate experience of watching that movie.  It makes the Twilight movies look great.  Reading the box the basic idea had at least some potential and Gary Oldman was there so I listened to someone else and gave it a try. Big mistake.
