Nintendo Gaming / RE: Red Steel Box Art
« on: September 26, 2006, 05:18:34 PM »
The box art reminds me of the movie VERSUS.  If you have seen this movie you will see some of the awesome style in the hero with the gun and sword.

I use that too but it has a few problems.  One is that I can't put the computer next to the main tv because it is just too big as well as too ugly to fit there.  The biggest problem is that using my wireless mouse is a huge pain when I don't have a desk in front of me to set it on.  I see the remote to be a superior tv web browsing device because of this.  The lack of the keyboard on the Wii probably means I will rarely use this feature though.

Somehow it won that award when no one actually got to play it....  what does that tell you?

It tells me that the game looks like tons of fun and people at the show were excited for it.  It also tells me that you might be unclear about the definition of "shamelessly pimp."

If games really cost that much too noone but the most hardcore are going to buy the ps3.  I'm having enough trouble saving money for the Wii because I have other more important things in life I need to spend money on.

Yes they are bringing it out.  It is going to be called "pheonix wright ACE ATTORNEY" instead of "PHEONIX WRIGHT ace attorney" though.  With the ACE ATTORNEY monicker the new game can be called "max power ACE ATTORNEY.
edit: beat me to it wandering

Since I seem to be the only one who has this as one of their must have launch titles I'm going to shamelessly pimp it.
Best in Show (the Konami site has anew video but it pauses every 3 seconds to load for me)
It won one of several best in shows a TGS. (and the girls playing certainly made me  want me to grab my Wii)

This is going to be a game in the U.S. that is largely overlooked at launch but afterwards everyone goes and buys because of great word of mouth.  Don't doom yourself (and the game) to searching used bins for a copy like you have with Beyond Good and Evil and Disgaea, just pick it up at launch so you won't have to buy it later to prove you're some uber hardcore fanboy.

If someone else even brings up Smash Brothers in this thread they should be shot.

Most of these points seem like nonissues.  The only real one seems to be price but I don't see this one having much of an effect due to it still being far below the competition.

Awesome.  All the japanese games can now head to us with the Ace Attorney name regardless of the main character.  I hope they give this guy a name at least half as cool as Pheonix Wright.

Pheonix Wright, excuse me Ace Attorney 1,  was one of the many DS games that made me realize how much I wasn't enjoying games at the time.  I still played games but this game and a few others really opened my eyes to the joy I had been missing and didn't get from playing a game in a long time.

me: Objection!!
roomate:  It's two in the morning quit lawyering!

Why would Nintendo or any other developer want to begin hyping games over a year away?  If you are releasing games prior to those games you worry about it stealing the hype and them skipping out on the earlier offereing and if you are not you need to worry about awesome launch games like Zelda stealing all of your hype.  Release info after the launch hype is a good idea.

General Gaming / RE: Microsoft Admits High 360 Failure Rate
« on: September 22, 2006, 01:08:18 PM »
What happens to everyone who already had a 360 sent back or fixed?  They probably get jack squat.  (Unless the original warrantly lasted a long time)  I am also going to guess that most of the bad xbox360's also died already meaning this doesn't help many people and simply appears as a good PR move with little consequences.

Wait, isn't that good marketing?  Why isn't Nintendo doing that?

While that would be some good marketing it would lead to problems.  How often do you hear people here bitching about how we were promised ssbb at launch, that zelda is on the wii first, and that metroid prime 3 is delayed?  Every single day.  I personally don't want to hear a constant stream of "Waaah waaahh!  They promised it would be here by now."  all the time.

I'm sorry but that is not the reason to get as ps2.  The answer you were looking for is Guitar Hero.  It is the only ps2 game I have and the reason I broke down and bought one after trying it out at the store.  Okami looks good but I see a price drop coming sooner then usual do to the ps3.  Also if you are like me and recently or will soon pick up a ps2 there is no reason to buy a new game (besides Guitar Hero) because there are MANY games just as good  that are much cheaper.  The new game will be cheaper when you eventually catch up.

My thoughts exactly.  It looks like a good FPS but thats it.  I saw better AI but nothing amazing.  He also talked about how you aren't stuck in simple corridors like in other FPS games and then preceded to walk from one to the next with the extra area you could explore being a bathroom.  I was exploring bathrooms back in Duke Nukem 3d, give me a more open setting.  I was hoping for an Elder Scrolls type openness when he mentioned it and was sorely disappointed.  Since the game is underwater I don't think there is much hope for later in the game either.  I think the game looks good but if you say "redifining the genre" I am going to need a lot more then this.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Wii Calculator - how much will you spend?
« on: September 21, 2006, 06:09:27 PM »
$540.43.  I am getting one extra remote, excite truck, zelda, elebits and red steel.  No one else is showing elebits any love?  While I at first balked at spending so much money I really did feel better when I realized that that is not even enough to buy a ps3.

Don't worry, most of the production problems probably won't be ironed out by March so Europe will have the same experience as NA and won't feel even more left out then they already do.

Photo Channel   (the movie part is at the end)

This viewing of photos and videos is amazingly fast.  The last time I hooked my camera to a tv to show some photos it was a frustrating experience to say the least.

In one video of the Wii channels I saw the guy played a video and while he was watching it made it turn into a puzzle.  I don't see anything to stop this so far.

Does anyone else realized that the picture channel will let you watch videos.  If you have any video on the SD card it seems to be able to play it.  Since I watch anime this could be very handy for downloaded videos.

It is perfect.  Instead of yelling objection you just slam the remote on the coach and then here the sound of Pheonix laying the smackdown on his desk come through the speaker!

Oh yeah, yay Sam and Max!

At the risk of derailing this thread I thought that Doggy Island game was the succesor to Nintendogs.  I know absolutely nothing about it except that dog is in the name so I jumped to a massive conclusion.

"Why should I buy a game that doesn’t look as good, controls strangely, and doesn’t have the online capabilities as the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 version?"

This represents my biggest complaint.  He just doesn't understand what Nintendo wants to do.  The strange control is what Nintendo is pushing as the biggest seller of the system and yet he uses it as a negative.  If you see the controls as a negative the Wii is not for you.  He then precedes to run through the tried and true HD graphics arguement that I have heard a thousand times and still don't buy (literally).

While some people may not agree with me I think that most people don't know what they want, but instead want what they know.

They would normally pass on something like this without realizing they would love it if they actually played it.  Selling new ideas isn't easy especially in a gaming culture so full of "hardcore" attributes.  Actually forcing customers to try something new is probably the best way to make them understand what they really want.  This may sound a bit pompous but I stand by it.
