Nintendo Gaming / RE: Matt is Back
« on: October 19, 2006, 04:47:02 PM »
He brings up some good points but it is mostly opinion.

I don't like how he complains how HE hasn't been able to play any more of Zelda.  How would allowing people like him a few more levels help the game at all?  It certainly doesn't need the hype and the levels and demos released have given an impression of the game like they are supposed to.  Full reviews of games should come out when the full games come out.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Red Steel Topic, MORE new details! (last post)

Even more new videos at ign.  This game looks better and better everytime I see it.  The voice acting even seems authentic since the actors all have a very thick japanese accent and yet avoid being annoying.

Ian the biggest problem I find in most of your arguements is that you think that doing everything right is easy and that the winner doesn't do new things and doesn't do things correctly, they just don't screw up.  The screwups are a small part of what made nintendo come in third in marketshare during the gamecube generation.  After all Sony made arguably the worst mistake of all by having only 2 controller ports!  This was idotic and yet it still stomped everyone else into the ground.

Looking back its easy to point out mistakes but it is harder to point out why systems succeed.  The ps2 succeeded by making some new smart moves and by doing things that Nintendo simply could not do because it is a different kind of company.  Nintendo realized it needs to use the fact that it is a fundamentally different company to their advantage by breaking out in a  new creative directions that the larger companies simply can't do as easily.

When three companies are selling ice cream you don't defeat the other companies by adding more scoops (especially when your opponents have more flavors), you have to make something original and different like the Blizzard (its at Dairy Queen).

IGN has a new video up.  I think it is the one that I could never watch on the konami website.  The crazy japanese pop music I could do without though.

With the huge shortages I think the the tagline should be "Keep waiting."

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Getting a Wii and selling your 'Cube?
« on: October 13, 2006, 04:39:17 PM »
I can't believe so many people are keeping their cubes.  I can understand keeping the snes and other stuff but with the backwards compatibility of the Wii the gamecube becomes a giant paperweight.

For a second I thought they were releasing that Burger King stalking game on the ps3.  Sadly it is just guys talking about the design.  The system is huge and not really "sexy."  This seems to be said just because they need to say something good.  Put this design next to Wii and it would be laughed at.

I am glad they at least admit that the ps3 controller is a joke.  They use the same design as the first ps and expect everyone to lap it up.  While usable it doesn't compare to any of the other controllers for comfort or ease of use.  The left analog is also still on the bottom! (although they don't bring it up.)

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Am I screwed? Should I already have pre-ordered?
« on: October 13, 2006, 04:05:28 PM »
I expect launch units to be hard to find.  With companies like toys r' us telling people it will be one of the hot items it very well might not be available at the stores that might not sell out as quickly either.  It looks like I will have to line up the night before because I didn't want to wake up early on my day off to preorder.

I don't think they will drop the PS3 no matter how badly it does.  Since the ps3 is tied to bluray they would keep it out even if it was a failure just to push the extra bluray units out.  It seems to me that Sony doesn't really care if the ps3 does well they just want bluray to succeed.  Bluray succeeding doesn't mean the ps3 succeeds either.  They have crippled the ps3 with an incredibly high price to sell more bluray units, it shows which division they want to succeed more.  The ps3 doesn't have to be number 1 to push those extra bluray players out and hopefully give sony the next gen disc market where they hope to actually make money.

Sony always intended for the playstation brand to be a trojan horse for living room domination and we see them trying to put it into practice with the addition of bluray.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Nintendo DS lite Fall 2006 Catalog
« on: October 10, 2006, 05:29:49 PM »
The catalog is fall so it could be out in the winter but I kind of doubt it.  Nintendo probably only wants one Zelda game out at a time so they don't steal each others attention and lets the fans get more money to pick up the next Zelda.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Red Steel: new movie
« on: October 10, 2006, 05:18:38 PM »
This game is looking great.  The shooting and sword fighting all looked like fun.
A couple of people that played it seemed to be very used to normal fps.  Many times they moved the screen until the enemy was in the center before they shot.  I wanted to scream at them that they don't have to do that.  People used to the current controls will have to get used to the new control so I expect some bad vibes from from these people at first but for them to change their mind after some time with it.

Now about turning, I heard that if you tilt the controler in the direction you are turning it moves faster.  I forget where I heard this from but does anyone else remember it?  I like the idea.

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo DS lite Fall 2006 Catalog
« on: October 08, 2006, 06:24:51 PM »
I just found this at an FYE the other day.  Is this something Nintendo has always done and I just never noticed?  It has the cool DS logo on the front and shows mostly DS games inside as well as a snippet about the Wii, GC, and GBA.  I didn't realize there were so many games for the DS I still want to pick up until I got my hands on the catalog.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: So what does everyone think of the 250 price tag?
« on: October 04, 2006, 06:03:02 PM »
Everyone wants a lower price for everything.  I would buy more dvds if they were cheaper and want them cheaper but it is not the correct business decision for a company.  Also how does being a consumer of videogames show you what current nonconsumers of videogames want in a price?

The time arguement is the stupidest thing I have ever heard.  They will still sell out all of their units and the number will be the same, production doesn't drop because of a later release date.  Releasing it before the ps3 is idotic because it is not necessary and sends out a message of weakness because your company felt it needed to be released early to grab attention.  Advantages of releasing early = 0.

TalkBack / RE: RUMORS: GameStop-Exclusive Demos and C64 on VC?
« on: October 03, 2006, 01:44:14 PM »
I don't see the big deal.  This is some kind of temporary exclusivity and the other stores will get them when the implementation is perfected and the consoles become more readily available.

Nongamers frankly don't matter at launch or this Holiday season.  They are not going to be waiting in line at midnight on launch day or scouring random stores until they finally find one.  It will take more time to get these people interested.

While I personally wish all the stores had kiosks this could have a positive turn.  In the best case scenario this exclusivity and having to give up an ID to play could garner a lot of attention.  The measures put in place make it seem like playing Wii is special and a priviledge, not like the other consoles that are just thrown on the floor for anyone to touch.  It could become an event and something that becomes that thing you have to do at the mall.  If advertised well some of these places could gather lines and crowds to play Wii.

capamerica has it right.  They are hardly compressing these games, if at all, probably to show us how much we "need" bluray.  Does anyone have any idea how big the biggest (or most complicated graphically) xbox360 (or computer) game has been.  They are in HD and I don't think they have had a problem with filling up the dvds.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Hi guys
« on: September 30, 2006, 07:48:37 PM »
While we are all one the pgc love this is by far the best forum I've seen around.  Almost every other forum I have joined I left because I seemed to have to correct people constantly and they just seemed to have no decent thoughts of their own.  I don't know how it was built but the community here is great.

I wish Adult Swim would do some more open pimping of the Wii, they are not above shameless advertisements.  It would probably be an excellent investment for Nintendo to get ads on it.  The ratings cartoon network gets for the young adult demographic are insane.

Why are people surprised that the article has a positive slant?  The purpose is to show why certain things are not a problem and not to point out potential problems.  He points out some problems but that is not the focus of the article.

The competitors bussiness models are not described because they are slight modifications of the industry standard model (improved graphics) and the article is about the new Wii model.  Sony and Microsofts overall plan to take over the living room is not part of the model to make the respective systems successful.  Bluray is not in pushing the PS3 but the PS3 with its games is instead pushing bluray.  While business models always play a role in the winner this time each model is not a slight modification of the previous.  A Nintendo coup or a giant jump in marketshare would force the other companies to change or automatically label themselves as behind the competition the next gen.

Everyone who is complaining about nongamers should just think about this.  When Germany took over Poland did they leave their home country behind and live in Poland?  No.  Think of Nintendo as nazi Germany, just without the genocide.

I was also a bit confused about why they chose to have the player try to beat the hell out of little girl with a wrench when no reason is given.  They even offered that as a selling point to the game (the decisions are yours part).  I was rooting for the big daddy to kill him the whole time.

I care, but I am a Bungie fan, not just a halo fan.  Halo was originally going to be an RTS and I think Bungie's previous games Myth 1 and 2 were the best RTS of all time.  (If anybody here has played them say so) Since Bungie doesn't seem to be developing it the new game will most likely reek of standard rts concepts and suck.

Doesn't this announce about 3 Halo spinoff games?  This series is going to be watered down extremely fast and lose the big appeal that a smart company would want to keep for the long run instead of losing it for a quick buck.

Banjo scares me.

abc news interviews Reggie.

I don't see the big news stations sitting down with the sony and ms presidents.  The new controller and marketing Nintendo is putting on the Wii seems to be capturing everyone's attention if not their imagination.

I found that the touch screen helped out Jump Superstars a lot.  Besides the awesome pictures on the bottom of the screen the touch screen allowed you to easily use many, many, many specials and the ability to change characters with ease.
