She herself doesn't bring much to the table, but Larry's interactions with her are the funniest. And yeah, Leon is great, he pretty much saved the second episode for me, that and the whole spousal abuse thing and the guy watching the laptop.

I unfortunately didn't sign up for this game, but I would like some mafia game to get started, if only so I could play in the one after.

I don't think they should add buttons to a new Wiimote, what would be the point then of making the current Wiimote forward-compatible? That isn't to say there won't be an improvement, but it will be an nonessential one, like the Wiimote+ where you can use it if you like, but isn't necessary.

Falling Skies: 8/10 Okay so after 4 episodes, this is getting pretty good. The plot is thickening with wonder, and the characters are becoming more endearing with each episode. The changes I complained about in the first episode have been maintained through the others and it works well.

Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 6: 7/10 so far. The first episode was freaking hilarious, but the second was a little disappointing. Usually happens, so I'm just glad this show is back on the air and can't wait for more Cheryl episodes.

As a person who has gone from 435lbs to 280, and is trying to reach 250, I can say that diet and exercise alone are extremely effective. I never took any pills or had any surgery, and I'm happy with the way my body looks except for my stomach, but I'm working on that and it's getting better. Diet and exercise FTW!!!

I wish they had developed the friendship between Xavier and Magneto a little bit more.

Agreed. That was easily my biggest beef with the film. The mutual respect going forward really doesn't seem to have much of a basis given what little time is spent on building it up in these origin stories.

I missed this somehow last time, but it's that's so true. I'm hoping that in the sequel Xavier's team and Magneto's team aren't wholly against each other just yet, and they have to work together again, giving the two leaders a chance to grow closer and understand each other better.

Inception: 7/10
Pretty good, I liked the premise, but what ruined this movie for me was everyone talking about how weird and confusing it was, and then I didn't find it confusing at all. There were some things I didn't get completely and was corrected on them by my smart-ass 16yr old niece, but the movie itself wasn't so great. I didn't like where it started from, I didn't really like the wife, the architect, or the stretching of the plot to make it all come together in the end.

True Grit: 8/10
I was surprised by how good this was. I was expecting the typical man and small female child on a long journey movie, it was somewhat like that with her needing to be rescued toward the end but this is a very good movie about the way people live. The characters are all unique and beneficial to the story, it has a good pace with never a forced moment imo, and the acting was top-notch.

Thor: 6/10
Generic as hell. The best part of the movie was the clip after the credits.

The Adjustment Bureau: 9.6/10
Probably the best movie I've seen so far this year. The premise was good, and I really liked how they showed the story from the point of view of both Matt Damon and The Adjustment Bureau. Very interesting! The beginning of this movie was spectacularly funny, the middle was tense and intriguing (even if it did get a little too slow at some points), and the ending was succinct and inspiring.
I thought tying the story to the history of humanity's ups and downs was brilliant, as was having one 'angel' be more human than the rest, and one less emotional than all others. I wish Matt Damon would have asked the obvious question of, why can't I do both now that I have the knowledge that I need to, but the rest of the movie makes up for that.

The way this game has gone viral is a great reason to keep people guessing about the release. The more tension they build, the greater chance of a JRPG actually selling well over here.

General Chat / Re: Harry Potter (not mafia) Movie Marathon?
« on: July 07, 2011, 08:59:12 PM »
I would do something like this despite the time involved. In both cases it eas a few years ago, but I caught both the three Robocop movies, and the three Matrix movies back to back on two rare occassions that I had a lot of my handle and the house to myself. Seeing the three Matrix movies in succession made me like them, and the three Robocop movies were the same. However, the Harry Potter series is very disjointed because of the changing of directors. Each brought his own style to the movie and it make seeing them in order lose the appeal a little bit, but I just feel like it would be an interesting event.

Falling Skies:
I'm not going to assign this a numbered rating because I've only seen the season premiere, and I can't yet tell if I like it enough to keep watching.

The premise is interesting, the acting is surprisingly good, and production value is good but still TV grade special effects. There were some real 'human' momentas that connected you to the characters and what they're going through, the story progressed nicely, though it felt slightly forced, and character development was pretty decent as well. However, a lot of characters acted out of character (and this just within the two episode season premier) and that annoyed me to the point where all those good things about the show went out the window. If they stay consistent with the characters being inconsistent, or  don't randomly change their feelings again, I think I'll like this show.

X-Men: First Class: 9/10

Everything was brilliantly done, my only gripe being that I wish they had developed the friendship between Xavier and Magneto a little bit more.

Well Nintendo's Channel system is genius, just imagine a Nintendo Shop Channel, an EA Channel, a Steam Channel, a Sqaure Enix Channel, not to mention the Wii U will be much much easier to port games due to its power and timing. If Wii U is out by the summer it puts Nintendo in a premium position.

Also Imagine Netflix Channel, Coupled with Hulu Chanel, and HBO and Showtime channels? Who the **** would need cable?

Individual communities by developers could introduce cross platform multiplayer.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Game Ideas - WiiU Edition
« on: June 10, 2011, 02:21:55 PM »
Apparently I was too late with my fps vs rts idea since Ubisoft is already making that game with Killer Freaks.

My jaw literally dropped when I read your idea, so I'm also glad to hear that they're doing it with Killer Freaks and hoping that there is a robust online mode.

There are some good ideas in here and hopefully since the best idea imho is already being done, a lot of others here are as well.

How about off the TV ideas? With BnM's mention of RPG management, it occurred to me that switching a game like that onto the controller only, would have to feature an entirely new UI combining what was on the TV and the controller since they are both vital to the game. If every game is going to switchable to the controller, it would make somethings like the shuriken throwing demo a lot easier (since the target would have to appear on the screen), and things like MGS (if using Kytim's idea for the camera application) a lot harder.

Then there's the potential for controller only games, like that game of Othello that they showed. Could that be broadcast to the TV so that even though two people are playing chess, their drunk friends can stand around making funny comments without breathing down their necks? (This happened to me last night btw, and I lost...).

Just because of how much potential there is (and 3rd party support) I'm becoming a big believer in the WiiU. I just wish the controller screen was multitouch because I had an idea for an adventure RPG were you moved/attacked/magicked all with screen by having eight fingers on it, and different motions and combinations of fingers on the screen performed different actions. Complicated for sure, but something I would personally love if done right.

TalkBack / Re: My Thoughts: Two Wii U Controllers at Once Possible?
« on: June 09, 2011, 11:10:49 AM »
But they've presumably got over a year to fix this. I hope developers, gamers, websites, magazines and all of their dogs raise hell about it. I hope the stock price drop helps convince. Whatever it takes.

The feedback from gamers is going to be largely negative to the one controller set up, so hopefully that is enough to convince Nintendo to do 2. Hey, if Sony could ditch those ridiculous boomerang controllers, Nintendo can give us at least two for the WiiU.

Nintendo Gaming / Game Ideas - WiiU Edition
« on: June 09, 2011, 06:44:19 AM »
I know the NWR staff is doing something similar, and some have already expressed ideas in other threads, so I just wanted to consolidate and see what others are thinking. For me, it's that demo of the shuriken throwing, and the arrow 'catching' that has me thinking; the movement of objects between the TV and controller.

My first idea is simply this: An FPS where the controller is the gun, and flipping it up towards you activates an electric shield to block incoming attacks. You couldn't shoot while the shield is up, but maybe after an upgrade, a slight shaking could produce a melee attack, or a blast of energy from the shield. So yeah, dual wriststraps are also a must.

Maybe, or it may give people more incentive since they can upgrade to Wii U and not have to worry about shelling out $200 for controllers and nunchucks again. It can go either way. What Nintendo needs at launch is a compelling Casual game like Wii Sports that makes non-gamers go "Wow I want to try that!" and a solid hardcore title.

Well, it looks like they've got the solid hardcore titles down pat, I'm guessing that they're saving the casual games for a more appropriate setting because of all the **** they've gotten at past E3s for having casual games on display. Casuals don't watch E3 unless they work for CNN.

The great thing about the WiiU or at least potentially, is a drastic improvement in casual games. Hopefully they will not only be deeper in integration, but wider in their variety. That shuriken throwing demo could easily be in WiiUSPorts, or UNintendogs as Frisbees or treats (speaking of which, UNintendogs would be probably be pretty cool with that controller, like a giant DS version (and speaking of that, Nintendo is turning all of our TVs into giant DSs**)), bird watching would be an interesting addition to WiiUSports if it looked like that demo and the controller is your binoculars, and there are a bunch of other good ideas for the controller as well. I'm glad to see 'hardcore' titles will be making good use of the controller (although I'm not sure if I actually want to make a 180degree turn to see what's behind me), but I think we'll see better casual use, as far as the screen goes beyond maps and additional views.

Then there's also the nongaming features that Nintendo hopefully goes hard with.

**So, now that our TVs are going to be giant DSs, are we going to be able to play DS games on the big screen? How about 3DS for those with a 3DTV? That would be freaking awesome imo.

Adrock, you make a good point, but there's word of mouth, the mall tour, the news channels will report on the controller (as they already have been doing) and there'll be controversy about the violence in some of the new games as well, bringing added attention. People will have about a year to get used to the WiiU transformation, and if Nintendo is smart, there'll be plenty of WiiU trailers highlighted on the Wii and 3DS.

Having said that, making the controller backwards compatible with the Wii would have been kind of cool, but it would also give people an incentive to not buy the new system, which from a business standpoint isn't so great.

NWR Forums Discord / Russian Bomb-Proof Toilets... Alarms Included!!!

http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/europe/06/08/russia.bomb.proof.toilets/index.html
Quote
Officials in the Russian capital say new public toilets, to be introduced by the end of the year, will be virtually indestructible. With basins made from ultra-strong fibrous concrete, and fittings hewn from a mixture of steel and reinforced plastic, officials say the state of the art WC's are vandal and terrorist-proof. "If somebody will leave a bomb inside the lavatory and it explodes, then the toilet won't be destroyed," said Anatoly Ashikhmin, an official involved in the project from the Moscow State Department of Building Maintenance. The drive to introduce bomb-proof toilets in the city follows a spate of deadly bomb attacks in recent years. In the most recent incident, a suicide bomber struck Moscow's main airport killing 37 people. The high tech facilities, say officials, will also be kept above 16 degrees centigrade (about 60 degrees Fahrenheit), important in a city where winter temperatures often plunge below -30 degrees centigrade. City officials say an extra security feature of the new unisex toilet is that members of the public will be able to spend a maximum of 30 minutes inside before the doors automatically open and an alarm sounds.

There has to be a way to trick these things into opening and sound the alarm after only a minute.

Yeah, multitouch doesn't matter much for gaming, but there's a web browser in the remote itself, as well as other functions that could be aided by multitouch.
