General Chat / Re: AntiSec Hacking group leaks 1 million Apple user IDs
« on: September 08, 2012, 09:04:48 PM »
I don't have a problem with people receiving calls if its an emergency, but the problem is people have no scruples and aren't considerate of other people in theaters or elsewhere. Unless its blocked entirely, people wouldn't just limit it to emergencies. They would use it to talk about random pointless **** while other people are trying to enjoy the movie and ruin the enjoyment of it for everyone.

And if someone is in an accident during that brief window of time you are in a theater it isn't likely to make much difference in the scheme of things. What could you do in 2 hours that would have made a difference? Emergency services via 911 could make a difference within that time, but you could not. They say ignorance is bliss, so isn't it better if you didn't find out horrible news like that until after the movie has finished anyway? If bad news is going to come at least let it not ruin your movie.

Also, someone could have an accident while you were asleep. Do you sleep with your phone turned on beside you so that it will wake you up in the middle of the night? Some do, some don't. But my point is bad news can wait a few hours. Why be in a hurry to hear bad news? You'll find out eventually... but in the meantime enjoy whatever you are doing.

If there's an emergency, shouldn't someone call 911? 20 years ago few people had cellphones, and somehow the world got by. I know its hard to believe, but turning your cellphone off for about 2 hours isn't going to be the end of the world. Again, if someone you know is having an emergency they shouldn't be calling you at the theater anyway. They should call 911 instead. Anything that isn't 911 worthy can afford to wait a couple hours, right?

Dear Nintendo:

I call this "The Money Printer".  Or "Hey, look, people are buying a Wii game!"

Kirby's Dream Collection + Super Mario All-Stars + GCN Zelda disc (but made for Wii with Classic Controller/Wii Remote Support) + Metroid Prime Trilogy in a four-disc set for $100. :D

Metroid Prime Trilogy alone is running for about that much these days. The others are sure to go up in value as well. When Nintendo comes out with a Limited Edition or special edition of anything, it becomes extremely valuable and rare years later.

Uncle Bob, I bet the sum total of your Nintendo collectibles over the years is worth a tidy sum.

**** that. No one should have ANY say over when I can use my device but me.
If you're on my property, I should be allowed to tell you to shut up or leave.  Same for the owner of the theater.

Exactly right. One could argue "no one has any say over my bowel movements but me", but that doesn't give you the right to have a bowel movement on someone else's property. You have the right to have bowel movements, but only where it is appropriate. The same goes for cell phones.

LOL at Ian trying to create some Nintendo-bias controversy.

He isn't creating it; he's only pointing it out. The gaming media is who created it.

COD Classic may appear on the Wii U's digital download service. I would recommend saving your money and getting it on that if/when it ever does. Actually, ALL of the COD games might eventually appear as downloads on the Wii U. Many of them already do on the PS360. Why wouldn't Activision bring them to Wii U as well? Its nothing but cash in their pocket. Even old COD games have long legs and still sell well (as evident by the fact Black Ops is still on the charts, and even kicking MW3's younger ass).

233
Maybe they'll do a Wii Import collection on the Wii U where they take two or three games taht were released in Europe but not the US and bundle them together in one package.

They wouldn't do that, because it would make Reggie look bad. They might bring the games, but they're not going to draw attention to the fact that other regions got them but NOA dropped the ball.

PlayStation 4 hasn't even been officially announced by Sony, so I think there is a very slim chance at best in it coming out in 2013.
Well, Xbox 720 has never been officially announced by MS either, so does that mean there's little chance of it coming out in 2013 as well?

Good point. We all know all three companies are working on their successors, and have been for some time. I don't know why TJ has to nitpick about how they haven't officially confirmed it. Do they really need to? Whether they've confirmed it or not, we know it. The only way they wouldn't is if they decided to throw in the towel with the video game business. There's a slim chance Sony might want to throw in the towel, but I doubt it.

They got that reputation from Call of Duty 2: Big Red One, Call of Duty 3, and Call of Duty: World at War. They were the studio charged by Activision to make the Call of Duty games a annual franchise during Infinity Ward's off years. I never played the games mentioned above but they seem to have been better received than I assumed.

I haven't played 2 or 3, but WAW was a great game and I think very highly underrated. I know WW2 shooters were done to death at the time it was released and people were sick of that, but it really is the Zenith of the WW2 COD games. There has been none since then, and there has been none that have done it better. This was the ONLY COD game that touched on the pacific theater of WW2. All the other ones just have you fighting the Nazis in Europe, so in that sense it was a refreshing change of pace because you got to touch on a whole other major part of WW2 which hasn't really been explored before or since in an FPS game.

And as far as the multiplayer goes, it is awesome. It remains the only COD to this day that has bayonets which you can use to impale your opponents. Every other COD game just gives you a dinky little knife which is boring in comparison. Also, its the only COD game which has tanks in the multiplayer.

Oh yeah, and you know the super popular COD zombies? WAW was the game which started that? So yeah, it is an awesome game and I think it doesn't get the credit it deserves. I think its mainly because of the WW2 setting. Kids today have no appreciation for history. They want modern and futuristic **** with robots and computers. Well, in Black Ops 2 Treyarch will be giving that to them... but for me personally I think its time for the series to go back to WW2. At that time WW2 games were beaten to death, but that was 5 years ago. I think enough time has past that they could go back to that now..... Actually, if anything the modern warfare games are whats getting repetitive and overdone these days.

Even if it doesn't come to the Wii, there's a good chance it can come to the Wii U later on. Perhaps as a digital download? If its a straight up port that would be fine, but if they added in accomplishments and HD graphics that would make it even better.

This creepy and insane game studio CEO keeps digging his own grave. I wonder if this sort of **** goes on in many other companies?

Hopefully her boss gets sent to prison, and then he can experience sexual harrassment on the receiving end.... in the showers.

Black Ops is up there and MWIII is not.  Interesting.

Black Ops is a superior game to MW2.00001

So the fact that reports are essentially saying he doesn't have the power to bring games over as that is the choice of NOJ doesn't change your opinion of him?

He might not have the power, but he still could make some effort to plead the case. I don't see him even making any effort. He just accepts NCL's decision, and that's pretty much it. We need someone who is independent and an advocate for the fans. And btw, why is it that Nintendo of Europe does a better job than NOA of delivering the games? You say NCL calls the shots, and that's probably true to a large extent, but if so why does Europe still get stuff that America does not?

The SNES was able to catch up with the Genesis even though it came out two years late wasn't it?

That's one way of looking at it. But when you consider the total dominance that the NES had, and how insignificant the Master System was in comparison the fact the Genesis was able to expand Sega's marketshare so much is nothing short of astounding.

Also, Sega kinda fumbled the ball with the Genesis with the Sega CD and 32x addons which never really caught on. That is one factor which also helped the SNES catch up. Sega was also a company with very limited resources so they couldn't do things like moneyhats and so on like Microsoft and Sony can. It was a totally different situation back then then how things are today.

The Wii is a poor choice for a multimedia center device. Why pay $200 just to play Netflix in standard definition? You can use the Wii for Netflix, but better alternatives do exist for this purpose.

After reading this, do you still blame Reggie for all of NOA's faults?

I don't blame him for the faults of Nintendo as a whole and I never did, but the faults of NOA? Absolutely.

Not sure I would call this a delay since there is no release date.

Well, not so much a release date as a release year. Clearly they would want to get it out for holiday 2013 both because of the better sales, and also to have a full year head start over the PS4 which was a strategy that worked out well for them in this current gen. If they miss the holiday 2013 window then they would have to do it in like March 2014, or even wait until holiday 2014 which is far from ideal.

Not to mention if they miss the 2013 that means Nintendo will have two years in a row of holiday sales completely to themselves. I don't see how Sony or MS could ever be able to catch up to that, no matter how much more powerful their systems would be. Missing 2012 is a given, but if they miss that plus 2013 Nintendo is going to dominate with like 90% marketshare and it will be just like the PS2 all over again. That's why this is crucial (for them) that they don't miss this window.

Even if the hardware is buggy and failure prone I wouldn't be surprised if they go with it anyway, because the cost of replacing RROD systems is probably less than the cost of surrendering two years of the market to Nintendo. They rushed the 360 out in 2005 before it was really ready, and it cost them dearly to get those problems sorted out, but in the end that's why they are the strongest player in the market this generation. So it was worth it to rush it.

I think Women's Rights in Japan aren't yet what they are here in the North America.

Legally I'm sure they have the same rights as men over there. The problem they face is discrimination because of cultural reasons, or whatever. But they do have the same right to vote, and everything else. But from the sounds of it, Nintendo seems to be run by this "Good 'ol Boy Network" which excludes girls.

I don't know if this is in any way related to this, but I remember reading in an article not that long ago about how there are no women in any senior positions at Nintendo. I'm sure they employ women for the small stuff, but there are none whatsoever in the higher levels of the company.

Lulz you be so funny.

It might seem like I was joking but I am dead serious. Do Red Rings and Blue Screens of Death ring any bells to you? It would not surprise me in the least if the Xbox420 ends up being plagued by similar issues. This seems par for the course with Microsoft products.

Watch this video and then you will see what I mean.

Something like this could easily happen at E3 2013 or E3 2014 when their new console is unveiled.

General Chat / Re: Android OS updates compared to iOS and Windows Phone
« on: September 06, 2012, 12:30:04 PM »
Has anyone thought that maybe the older versions are good enough? The changes are probably minuscule, and depending on the device these changes might not even be needed or even used. Android itself might be relatively new, but keep in mind that it uses the Linux kernel which has been in constant development since 1991. So its not like Android was made from scratch. Right off the bat the very first Android OS was a solid platform because it is a fork of an already solid platform. iOS and Windows Phone on the other hand might need these constant updates because they have to catch up, but Android was already way ahead of them from day one.

aren't good enough to pass testing.

So in other words, its a typical Micro$oft product.
