Regardless of whatever bugs Fatal Frame 4 may have had, Metroid Other M had a serious game killing bug which makes the game unbeatable and the only option is to start over from the beginning. I would consider that a very serious bug, yet Nintendo shipped Other M without any fuss.

You have to understand I said that in the context of the incredibly disappointing showing of the Wii U at E3, and I only meant that if the Wii U ends up being the casual shovelware only system that the Wii has mostly become. This is by no means set in stone and so my final opinion on the Wii U is still very much subject to change.

I don't think anyone is saying you being younger doesn't mean your opinion is any less valid, at least when it comes to stuff going on now. But how could you know more about a game which you didn't play until only recently? If you look at it through a modern lens you will be judging the game with a modern bias and you won't be able to appreciate it for what it was during its era. That would be like if I were to argue with someone who lived during World War 2 and me telling them I know more about that then they do, even though they lived through it and I did not. If I told them their WW2 was a joke compared to our current war in Afghanistan they would probably be offended.

Obviously Uncle Bob knows more about what I think than I do, so what's the point of me arguing?

Good. Don't argue then. You're coming across as somewhat obnoxious anyway.

I could say the same about you.

What is Escape Plan?

Something no Vita owner should be without.

No, I mean back then all the stuff gamers take for granted today was only starting to come into being. Back in those days Super Mario 64 was a huge deal because nothing like it had ever existed until that point, but nowadays a 3D platformer on par with that could come out and people would just take it for granted and it wouldn't have the same excitement.

The same goes for Goldeneye and other early FPS. Nowadays we get like at least a dozen FPS games each and every year, and the graphics and gameplay have come a long way since the late 90s. Gamers today are spoiled and are unable to appreciate something like that. That's why I said when you play an old game like today its probably not going to impress you, but if you played it in 1997 it would have blown your mind because nothing like it existed up until that point.

Nether game has an English translation anywhere in the world so it's not like Xenoblade and The Last Story which could easily get brought over.

That's a crap excuse, and deep down you know it. I think we had this same argument about Xenoblade and TLS back before they were announced and as I recall you came up with excuses defending NOA for not bringing them over even though the localization was already done courtesy of NOE. So even when there is an English localization you still will defend NOA.

And as for the localizations not already being done by NoE, are you telling me NoA is incapable of doing it themselves? Must NoE hold their hand and do all the work for them? NoA needs to step up to the plate and stop making excuses. They are supposed to be just as capable of doing localizing and NoE, so what's the deal? That's like a kid having another kid do their homework for them.

I played both Quake and Goldeneye just four months ago,

There is a difference between playing these games four months ago and playing them 15 years ago when they were revolutionary and mind blowing.

Regardless of whether the lack of games was the reason Nintendo has been losing money, or if its just due to currency exchange or some mumbo jumbo voodoo economics, the fact of the matter is Nintendo's lineup this year and last year has been paltry to say the least. People aren't going to buy games if they don't exist. What I find unforgivable is there are games like Fatal Frame 4 and Captain Rainbow which DO exist and have existed for quite some time, but NOA refuses to deliver them. NOA would rather give its audience absolutely NOTHING rather than deliver games which already exist and are only waiting for localization. I understand it costs some money to localize games, but sometimes you have to spend money in order to make money. One thing that should be common sense to anyone is that you aren't going to make money if you aren't delivering any sort of product to the market. That's a fact.

Hm.  Sounds like Mario Paint.

To be fair, Mario Paint did have a fly swatting mini game. I think there may have been some other stuff as well, but I can't quite remember off hand.

They are selling twice as well as the Wii at least, and this despite the fact they cost $100 more.

So... you think Nintendo should only ever make games they know in advance people want to play?

From what people are saying, its debatable whether Wii Music can even be considered a "game". Sounds like its a bit of "interactive art" that you fiddle around with for fun, but there is no scoring and you don't "win" or "lose".

Nintendo Gaming / Re: What's going to be packed in with the Wii U?

But keep in mind this is the same company who refused to license DVD playback for the Wii, even though that would have only cost them about $5 per unit for the licensing. If $5 was too much for DVD playback, even though that added value (or perceived value) to the console, then surely $10 for a remote that over 90% of Wii U buyers will already have must be too.

Come to think of it, wasn't the argument against including DVD playback in the Wii something along the lines of everyone having DVD players by now so it no longer mattered? I'm sure the real reason was the licensing fees, but this was what they told consumers to explain why they weren't including it. That same logic goes for the Wiimote, almost everyone who is buying the Wii U will already have at least one Wiimote, and in many cases people will already have 4 of them and won't need another one.

I'm not arguing it's necessary, because you're right, it isn't. I'm merely arguing that it's what they're going to do

That could be what they will do, but we don't know that for sure. We both agree its not necessary, and on top of that I'd rather whatever it costs them to bundle it would just get shaved off the MSRP and the savings passed on to consumers. So if the MSRP of the Wii U is let's say $349.99 and the Wiimote accounts for $10 of that, I'd rather they leave it out and then drop the MSRP to $339.99. See what I'm saying? Or instead of the Wiimote they could include something of equal value which would have greater utility, such as an SD card or HDMI cable or whatever.

heck, half of the reason i havent played wii that much the last couple of years is I have a shitty small 20 something inch tv in my room, my wii is now hooked up in the living room to a real modern TV for netflix, yet i still have to battle with people for control of the tv. So its applicable here until i buy my own bigger tv.

If you don't mind your TV being standard definition, you can get a really big sized TV for dirt cheap off craigslist or garage sales or flea markets. People who have upgraded to HD tvs tend to be more than happy to get rid of their old ones because they take up a lot of room. And since the Wii isn't even HD capable anyway you don't really gain much with an HD TV so the older ones will work well for that purpose.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: What's going to be packed in with the Wii U?

I think they'll include a remote to try to justify the $350 price I'm convinced they're going with. They sell for $40, but I'm sure Nintendo's making a pretty nice profit on that at this point, and some of the games in Nintendo Land require one anyway.

Is there a need to though? The Wii U's market will be almost entirely the same as those who already own a Wii. There will be very, very few people who buy a Wii U who don't already own a Wii to begin with, and as Kairon pointed out for these very few people the Wiimotes are available on shelves right next to the Wii U. There's no need to bundle it when so many people either already have it or can easily get it separately.

I think a slightly more reasonable alternative might be if the Nintendo Land game comes bundled with a wiimote just like Wii Play or Wii Sports Resort did. This is of course assuming Nintendo Land is sold as a separate retail game and not bundled with the console. But once again, there's so many wiimotes in circulation that bundling more really isn't necessary. I suppose it might be a good way for Nintendo to clear out any excess stock they might have... if they have a bunch of unsold wiimotes they need to get rid of? Sure, might as well toss them in. But I don't think they would want to manufacture more if its going to increase costs.

If it were as easy as watching a competitor do it and then getting right to that level by emulating it, PSN would be a lot better than it is. Sony still hasn't gotten their service to the level of Steam or Xbox Live, and they've been actively working on it for years. I don't expect Nintendo to get it perfect right away, but I want to see them making progress, and with what I've seen on the 3DS and the little bits we've seen about the Wii U I think it's clear they're learning.

We should never forget what hackers did to PSN last year. For Nintendo's sake (and the millions of consumers who will be using the Wii u), I hope they were watching that and learning so they don't suffer a similar problem.

General Gaming / Re: Activision Blizzard possibly being sold
« on: June 15, 2012, 02:20:59 AM »
I disagree. COD isn't going away anytime soon. Each successive game is breaking the sales records set by the last, and the games are raking in literally billions of dollars for Activision.
Actually, while MW3 sold more on launch day than BlOps, at this point in its lifecyle, BlOps has sold more units and MW3 is actually starting to track slower than even MW2 at this point.  It will end up selling less than MW2 or BlOps in the end.  I would not be surprised if BO2 also ends up lower than MW2.

I doubt that. The reason MW3 sales have stalled is because the game sucks. It was a copy and paste job of MW2 that was done by talentless scabs who were hired to replace the old Infinity Ward staff that left the year before.

Infinity Ward is in shambles, but don't take that out on Treyarch. Treyarch still makes quality games, and that's why Black Ops 2 will do well in the long run. It is not a copy and paste piece of **** made by incompetent scabs like MW3 was.

TalkBack / Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops II Coming to Wii U
« on: June 15, 2012, 02:10:31 AM »
The main difference between the two is, ironically, the story.  Modern Warfare follows a modern-day struggle against Russian terrorists, while Black Ops is set during the Cold War (and has some characters that carry over from Call of Duty: World at War, which is set during World War II).

If you watched the Black Ops II trailer it shows that the game is set in the year 2025 and shows robots and things like that you'll be facing, so even though the original Black Ops might have been set in the 1960s, the sequel has jumped so far into the future that its actually more modern than modern warfare.

I personally don't like that direction its going. I don't think they've spent enough time in the Cold War era... they only did one game there in passing, and now they're jumping ahead 60 years? With the robots and all the futuristic stuff going on this will be the most un-COD COD game ever made. It will be more like Halo or Killzone than COD.

Soloing on a guitar is largely just going through scales.  Stay in the right scale and whatever you do will sound in key.  A music game that keeps the player in the scale but lets him **** around with whatever notes he wants in that scale would allow for non-musicians to jam but would have much more complexity and allow for actually writing original materal.  Something like THAT would be much more interesting than what Wii Music has and would still have casual appeal.

But how do you pull that functionality off with a wiimote/chuck? That's why I said it needed some sort of musical instrument peripheral to go with it, even if it was just a simple plastic shell for the Wiimote to snap into.

Here is a great idea for a Wii U console stand:

  • It hooks into the bottom of the console in a similar manner to the 64DD and Game Boy Player.
  • Storage slot for an internal 2.5" SATA HDD.
  • Cooling fans for both the console and HDD.
  • One single USB cord.
  • LED lights.
  • Three extra USB ports.

You forgot the most important one of all:

  • Replaces the old Wii U logo with a new logo that says "Super Wii"
;)

You know why the attach rate for the 360 is so low? It's because the amount of owners who have purchased more than 360 console because the last one red ringed is probably one in three, possibly higher. This brings down the games purchased per system average down.

The PS3 has a similar failure rate on its old PHAT model with its YLOD.
No it does not.  Small accounts on internet forums do not make up the failure rate of the 360.

Well, according to Brandogg the failure rates are about the same, and since he fixes consoles for a living I have faith that he knows what he's talking about.

TalkBack / Re: System-Level Achievements Coming to Wii U
« on: June 14, 2012, 04:25:20 PM »
I don't have a problem with achievements or the people who like them, but I think Ian's idea is pretty damn funny. I would have to give kudos to any developer with enough balls to do something like that, but imagine the backlash they would get from fans... and what would Microsoft do? Technically, they fulfilled the mandatory requirements imposed by Microsoft, but they did it in a blatantly insulting way which trolls both Microsoft and gamers alike. Would Microsoft take action?
