Nintendo Gaming / Why don't Nintendo fans like Fighting Games?
« on: May 25, 2003, 11:11:08 AM »
I haven't posted anything on this board in a while but this has been nagging me for a bit now.  I see so many threads about all these great 1st, 2nd and 3rd party RPGs, Adventure, Racing etc. games but hardly anyone talks about fighting games.  Sure, almost everyone is excited about Soul Calibur 2, but that was almost solely based on the game having Link from Legend of Zelda in it.  I was a big fan of the original SC on DreamCast and I was excited about the game WAY before I even heard about Link being a playable character in it.  But that is the only fighting game anyone is talking about.  What about anyone wishing for or protesting the lack of any other quality fighting game on the GCN?  Sure, we're getting DragonBall Z: Budokai and some of us already have Bloody Roar: Primal Fury (still got my copy) but why doesn't anyone get their panties in a twist when we don't get Tekken 4 or 5 or Virtua Fighter 4 or any of the Dead or Alive games.  Sure you can argue about the quality of the DOA series but that's not the point.  I would love a Fighter's MegaMix 2 from SEGA on my GCN or even a Last Bronx or Fighting Vipers from them.  Heck! Give me a 3D Eternal Champions!  What about more fighters from Capcom?  I'm not even going to comment on Mortal Kombat because that series is all-and I mean ALL-about combos and remembering the combos and not even up to Soul Calibur's quality and gameplay goodness, what with the controls favoring customizable combos i.e. creating them on the fly.  That's one of the reasons I love my copy of Bloody Roar.  Sure you might say its a button masher but that doesn't mean it isn't fun.  I like the freedom to create my own combos and finding new moves I didn't see before.  It makes a good fighter even better when you have worthwhile secrets to add to gameplay or just a nice graphical touch like customizable outfits (think VF4).

Ok.  That's all from me for now.  what about you guys?  And don't get me started on why none of you buy Sports Games (Mario Golf and Tennis don't count).

Nintendo Gaming / suggestions for the PGC E3 2003 DVD
« on: April 21, 2003, 07:49:26 AM »
1.  Closed captioning of conferences or a transcript of it when booted up to a PC...
2.  With direct feed videos, showcase the biggies first, like Rogue Squadron 3, Game Zero, Mario Kart, Soul Calibur 2, Star Craft Ghost, etc. and then have the lesserknown games afterward.  Kind of like in descending order of hype.
3.  Less footage of any of the staffers
4.  Interviews with studio chiefs like Naka, Miyamoto and such.
5.  As an Easter Egg, the afterparty footage, and keep it to a minimum of 15 mins.
6.  Do the same top job you did with last year's DVD...

General Gaming / Will the PGC E3 2003 DVD have captioning?
« on: April 09, 2003, 08:30:56 AM »
I'm a deaf gamer and a regular PGC reader.  I read the site everyday or at least when my son is sleep.  I would like to know if this year's DVD will have Closed Captioning for the deaf and hard of hearing.   It seems like so many videogames and their developers have yet to catch up with the regular DVD/Video-taped markets.  Almost all of them have some form of Captioning.  Most Television shows and movies have captioning in them.  I'm not saying subtitles, or that they should be on all the time.  Just give us the option to have them turned on when we set our televisions to display the captioning.
BTW, C1 is the standard when coding Captions, so when we enable them on our TVs, we always choose C1.  I hope you guys think about this and implement it.  I would have bought last year's DVD had it had Captioning.
