kenny

Let me be a little more clear.

There were indeed parts of the game where the graphics did some cool things, the water on the visor being one of them.
I just didnt find the overall look of the game very appealing. Everything had a plasticy fake look about it to me, I just didnt find anything that jumped out at me and made me say wow. A good example is on the 1st level when you are running/rolling back to the ship. The critters that bunch together near the tunnels looks like blobs of sawdust as you approach. I found there to be way to many instances where things just looked poor to me. Maybe I expected to much, either way I just didnt like it. I much prefer the pre rendered graphics of RE.

Well I treid to play Metroid again this weekend.
I sat down and dedicated 2 hours to it, and I was thrilled when the time was finally up.
This is the most boring game I have ever played, I honestly cant stand it.

anyone who says metroid prime sucks is stupid period........not liking it is one thing, but u have to acknolege that it is a good game.

I disagree, I dont think its a good game. I didnt find the graphics impressive at all, and the cut scenes, especially the opening one were down right cheesy and ugly. I found the game play to be tedius and extremely repetitive, the scanning drove me nuts, the story was just plain predictable. and the damn control scheme had me looking at the controller more than the TV.
The only thing I really liked about the game was the sound, it truly kicked ass.

I did however end up played ED for nearly 5 solid hours that night, although it is graphically quite sad the game itself is brilliant. I also spent most of sunday on OoT, I cant believe how well nintendo dolled this up for the pre order, what a treat.

198?

This was the game that took a pac man like style to the next level. Loads of differant critters to chase you, differant power ups on every level and just a load of fun all in all. This was the only game my father has ever played in his life, he never played prior and hasnt played since.
By todays standard this game would no doubt suck, but the nostalgia value I have from this game is second to none.

I saw nothing innovative about SMS, having to use the water gun the whole game sucked, and all in all it was frustrating, repetitive and lacked fun, same goes for the vaccuum in Luigi's Mansion. Pikmin was very innovative IMO, and I truly enjoyed it.
As for rehashing old games, all 3 are guilty.

I thought the game was great. You people who didn't like the story have no imagination

I am glad to see you think your "opinion" is better than his, a real sign of maturity.

I have a great imagination, I draw, I paint (some of my work is shown in 2 canadian gallaries) and I cant stand Prime.

You like the game, 3 cheeres for you. I think it sucked.

Opinions, oh how they scare the weak.

Microsoft's ad campaigns have been unethical, unfair, and exploitive. Everything they have done is against everything I stand for in console gaming.

LMAO, that is just to damn funny. Everything you stand for in console gaming, that is the best part.  You must be a relative of Martha Burke.

Enough with the Mario sports games, talk about beating a dead horse.
And people wonder why Nintendo gets called kiddy, maybe princess toadstool dribbling and dunking will help.
Good grief.

i dont see F-zero on that list

I dont understand why everyone likes F-Zero so darn much. I couldnt stand the N64 version. I find it to be a boring uninspired racer that simply goes fast.

I agree 100%. This game just didnt excite me to keep playing. I wanted to finish it just to say I did, but I have finally givin up on that, I just cant stand playing it. It is honestly the most boring game I have ever played.
I much prefer playing SSX tricky and Tiger Woods 2003.

Now don't get me wrong. I still think the game is deserving of praise, as it is a genre defining game, and is executed with perfection. However, the game simply bores me.... I don't know why. I can't keep my interest in it long enough to play it more than an hour or so

I agree, Prime is brutally boring. I cant stand all the scanning, its like reading the damn paper, and I do enough of that at work.

I also think this game was sold and pegged as great by many simply on hype.

I hate that ****er, I think he should die along with Saddam Sudane. That's the only reason I'm anti-Xbox.

your post makes me sick.
How the hell can you be so ignorant at such a young age?

Do you even have a basis for your opinion?
How can you compare Bill gates and saddam hussien?

if you are the future of your country god bless us all.

738
what did you expect?
Did you think they would finish the game, pack it and ship it the same day?
How many pre-orders did Zelda have? 500K?
How many games were in each box, I count approx 30.
I also count 19 boxes.
This would give them 570 copies.

I think they are a bit short.

I am playing OoT for the very first time (my Zelda cherry has finally been popped).
After 2 days (just got the bonus disc) and about 10 hours I am completely sold on it.
I cant wait for WW.

I cant believe I paid full price for that hunk of junk.
After playing it I would give $5 for it.

you should get a cube because it will teach you to read exiting things like the form rules or better yet teach you to browse through the topics and find the one like yours that has been done 34 times already.

What makes you all think you should get to play online for free? Someone has to pay for servers, techs, set up and so many more costs that it isnt even funny, and yet you think it should all be free?
I have no problem at all paying as much as $25 a month for online play, as long as it is done right. You want something, you want it good, you better expect to pay for it.

I really cant stand some of you people.
How the hell can you say what Zelda deserves when you havent even played the game yet?
This guy has played the f'in game. He gave his opinion. He was very detailed and honest in those opinions.
Now grow up.
Once you have played the game then you can talk, untill then his opinion is worth a hell of a lot more than yours.

If an ad for a rival system bothers you this much I strongly advise seeing a shrink.
This is borderline insanity for christs sake.

Yes, feel free to add and remove stuff so as to better prove your invalid point.

There is no proof at all, everything here is OPINION. The numbers you quote are reviews, simply put they are people who give their opinions.

Topics like this are just plain stupid.

It is real nice to see someone who can have a discussion without resorting to name calling and obsenity, very rare now a days.
If everyone followed these principals I can only imagine how interesting these threads would become.

I do understand your point of view for what its worth, I was simply busting your balls for the sake of good conversation.

The one thing I do not fully understand however is everyones obsession with Metroid. I admit the game was quite good, but I just didnt find it to be as good as everyone thinks. I thought the intro was brutal in fact, it looked so damn corny. The in game graphics were good but nothing spectacular, the sound did kick ass though. I just found all the scanning and slow pace to get tiresome. I am very close to finishing Metroid (finally), it took me forever because I had trouble playing it for any lenght of time due to boredom. Where as RE I blew through almost non stop. Please dont bite my head off here, but in all honesty, and i do mean this, I prefer to play Tiger Woods 2003 over it. I can almost here the gasping from here.

On a side note, I picked up a used Eternal Darkness at lunch for $15 canadian, even had the instructions still. Maybe now I can finish it as well.

Cheers.

Congress has gotten on game companies' backs for advertising mature titles to children. It's one of the reasons the ESRB was formed

Yes, but that doesnt make it "ILLEGAL", it is simply a rating system nothing more nothing less.

I've said many, many times that the industry will be hurting from a creative standpoint, as a dearth of unoriginal and over-hyped titles flood the market. Remember, it's what killed the industry in 1983.

I dont think its hurting at all, from any standpoint, even a creative one. There a boatload of great games on all systems that are quite creative. As with any booming industry you will have a flood of "inferior" product as companies try to cash in on the boom. You will also see another crash in the gaming industry in time, regardless of the quality and originality of the products. It is just the nature of the cyclical entertainment industry.

Quote

Read the reviews for Metroid Prime. I'll give you some help: GameRankings.com: Metroid Prime. Ask people on the forums what they think of it. It is almost a consensus: Metroid Prime is not only good, but freakin' awesome.

That still doesnt mean it "DESERVES" to sell well, there are a ton of "GREAT" products on the market that sell like crap. Just because something is good doesnt mean it will have mass appeal. I thought the game was very good, I wouldnt say awesome however. Besides reviews are simply opinions and I am betting that less that 10% of all people who buy games even read or realize for that matter that reviews for games even exist.

Yet the groups Nintendo is aiming for, the groups that would accept its games, aren't becuase of image. What does that have to do with competition?

I dont buy that for a minute. Nintendo does and is trying to portray an image, an image of family friendly entertainment, right? Isnt this what everyone says? So tell me then why are games like GTA 3 acceptable on the Gameboy? Do Nintendo's ethics and morality stop at the cube? Nintendo cant beat the compitition in the console market, so they try and hit a differant target, hence the childrens market. But with the gameboy anything seems to go because they are the leaders. Isnt this a bit hypocritical?

Quote

If capitalism forces companies to make glitzy, shallow titles, much as how most of Hollywood operates, then it is not doing its job.

It is not capitalisms job to do anything. Capitalism gives the peopel the choice, in both what they make and buy. People are buying glitz because they want to, and companies will make it as long as it sells, not because anyone is being forced to.

Quote

Theoretically, capitalism forces companies to make better products to compete. In a creative format, however, where 'better' is subjective, it often turns to companies making "cooler" products.

They make "cooler" products because that is what the "people" want. This means capitalism is working and well in fact. In the case of video games, cool may very well mean better to many, and there really is nothing wrong with that. If companies stopped making games that sold because they were cool and instead only made games that didnt appeal and didnt sell but were "better" in a few eyes, how would this be better? It would only speed up the demise of the industry because sales would dry up.

Quote

I don't think that capitalism is infallible, certainly not in a market involving creativity.

I suppose this is why we see such a huge number of great creative games coming out of Iraq, China and N. Korea?

My old man use to love playing. Many moons ago when we had  a "Colecovision" my old man would play for hours at a time, the only game he played however was Ladybug. I would guess most people have never even heard of it.
