General Chat / RE: So, what TV shows do you guys watch?
« on: March 02, 2007, 02:50:52 PM »
Shows I watch and endorse:

The Daily Show
The Colbert Report
Doctor Who
Heroes
Bleach
Robot Chicken
The NewsHour with Jim Leher

Shows that aren't that great, that I watch anyway because they used to be good/I liked the writer's previous work/I liked the British version/I like Hugh Laurie:

24
Monk
Mythbusters
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip
The Office
House

Old shows that I watch semi-regularly:

Seinfeld
Iron Chef

Shows I had to give up on because they started sucking so much:

Family Guy
The Simpsons

Shows I would watch if they weren't canceled:

Arrested Development

Planetarium is charming and I recommend it to everyone who likes puzzles. (Don't be turned off by the fact that you have to register - it's painless.)

edit: Oh, and the game works on Wii.

The Illusionist - Edward Norton was great and the cinematography was fantastic. Otherwise, it worked about as well as most short stories with twist endings stretched out to feature length films...which is to say, not very well.

I haven't seen Prestige, though, so I can't compare.

Um, well, perhaps. I guess you could say this is compressed time mafia. The point is, this game will more closely resemble how mafia is played in real life.

Would anyone be interested in playing a game of mafia....in real time? I've found some neat software that we can use for this purpose. I was thinking we might play Monday, March 5th at 10:00pm EST (the day shift-key's game was going to start.) But if you'd prefer a different date/time, please, speak.

If you're interested, here's what you need to do:

- Go to volity.net
- Download and install Gamut.
- Register a volity account.
- Go to volity's werewolf page (werewolf = mafia.) Log in. Find where the game I've scheduled is listed, under "Upcoming games". Click the button, beside the listing, that says "Add yourself".
- When it comes time for the game, open Gamut. A message should pop up inviting you to the game.

(If you don't want to sign-up in advance, you can skip the last two steps, and just join the game when the time comes. Go to the werewolf page and look for "Join an existing game".)

And that's it. I've never done this before, so I don't know how long the game will take...but I'd plan on it being an hour or so.

Oh, here are the rules. They're pretty standard.

A threat to public order? Nonsense. Playing Counterstrike with blood effects turned on won't turn you into a killer, and neither will playing Manhunt. Eating meat, on the other hand, leads to very real harm and misery.

This video does a good job demonstrating the limitations of the wii. You'll note that she went through most of the motions correctly, but failed almost every challenge requiring the pointer because she pointed outside the sensor bar's limited range.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:How do you review Wii games?
« on: February 24, 2007, 05:28:22 PM »
Maybe. There are times when I want to shout at a reviewer: "No, it doesn't have bad controls, you just suck! Did you forget how hard it was to adjust to the analogue stick?"

...More often, though, I want to shout at game-starved Nintendo fans who talk up crap like Red Steel.

vgcharts is saying 35,000 copies of the game have sold so far.

As I was saying in the other thread, localization of the third game is apparently extremely likely.
