Nintendo Gaming / RE: Kororinpa and Wing Island pushed up!

I, too, am looking forward to this game. The good that looks good, I mean. Not the other one.

An open letter to Kairon (and people like him):

To whom it may concern,

Your loyalty isn't helping the games industry.

There are many legitimate reasons for not owning multiple consoles - not having enough money, for one. But if you refuse to buy any games or consoles that don't bear the Official Nintendo Seal of Sealiness on principle, to help your "team", you are not doing good.

Wanting to help Nintendo is understandable - you love their products, and have had to suffer through two generations of them struggling in last place. But Nintendo has proven, with the Wii and the DS, that they don't need your charity. So don't give it to them. Instead, do the best thing you can for both the games industry, and your fellow gamers: buy good games, no matter what system they appear on.

Get it out of your head that you need to help Nintendo by buying dreck like Call of Duty 3 for the Wii. Instead, you should be supporting the artists behind Ico, Silent Hill, Shadow of the Colossus and Okami....well, not Okami. Too late for that.

Help make sure more talented development teams aren't disbanded. Help make sure more great games are made. Help yourself learn more about video games and game design. And help Nintendo, by making them work for your dollar. Do all this, just by buying good games.

Sincerely,

Walter "Wa" N. During

This isn't a pudding discussion, but a simple statement of fact.

I just ate some tapioca pudding, and man, it was way too delicious.

No other pudding is more delicious than tapioca.

I don't like wasting money on wars that don't get us anything. On that I'd say let's end it on this quote:

We got around to the subject of war again and I said that, contrary to his attitude, I did not think that the common people are very thankful for leaders who bring them war and destruction.

"Why, of course, the people don't want war," Goering shrugged. "Why would some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best that he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece. Naturally, the common people don't want war; neither in Russia nor in England nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship."

"There is one difference," I pointed out. "In a democracy the people have some say in the matter through their elected representatives, and in the United States only Congress can declare wars."

"Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

An excellent quote. But let's end on this one instead:

"...the consensus of U.S. intelligence agencies [is] that early withdrawal [from Iraq] would produce 'massive civilian casualties.'" - Washington Post editorial board, Saturday, February 17, 2007

I'm also disappointed by Lindermann's appearance a tad.

I dunno. Malcolm McDowell is no Sir Ian McKellen, but he's still pretty cool.

No, those aren't actually funny and just waste everyone's time.

TalkBack / RE:REVIEWS: Sonic and the Secret Rings
« on: March 06, 2007, 09:00:26 AM »
I fear you're too late, svevan. A Secret Rings epidimic is already sweeping the nation.

The problem is Nintendo fans. They're addicted to crappy games. Oh, they may tell themselves, as they tighten the strap around their arm, that they play games like Secret Rings because they enjoy them. But, deep down, they know they're wasting their life away on bad games with no redeeming value. And they know they're doing it, not out of want, but out of need. What's worse is that, to make themselves feel better about themselves, they try to rope in other people. They'll say things like "Just one try won't hurt, c'mon, just one rental," and "everyone's doing it", and "Sonic and the Secret Rings doesn't suck."

But I hope your review does help some people. Maybe it will make someone realize that winners don't play Sonic. That bad game users doesn't just hurt themselves, but everyone around them. And if your does that - if it saves just one life - then it'll all be worth it.

the government sanctioned killing of people of a particular, uh, nationality.

I agree we should be doing more in regards to the Darfur crisis...and that, by not doing anything, we are, essentially, sanctioning genocide. However, in, our defense, we are busy killing terrorists in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Shawst3r got banned and his avatar read "I support masturbatory rights" after that ordeal.

No, I think that was his title. His avatar became a hybrid Islamic/gay pride flag (which was, incidentally, hosted at pro666's site. What's his connection to this, I wonder? Did a mod ask him to host the image? Or was the image already there to begin with? Is pro666 secretly a mod? Secretly shawnst3r?)

edit: Although, now that I think about it, did the avatar contain BOTH the gay Islamic flag, and the message "I support masturbatory rights"? If it did, that would mean....Shawnst3r was really the greatest dupe account in history. He wasn't a Christian at all, but a professional under the employ of satan.

My favorite toon is "Ballad of the Sneak" and my favorite email is "i love you".

I must agree with Dasmos that Strong Bad is past his prime. Homestar Runner, meanwhile, keeps getting funnier and funnier. He's now my favorite character.

What reason did I have not to? The writers were perfectly happy killing Mia in the very second case in the first game and the introduction of Pearl seemed like an obvious set-up for Maya's death in the second one.

You might be right that killing off a main character is something the game writers would not be shy of, however...

Revealing a major plot twist in a thread title would be a really jerky thing to do, and, as we have already established, NWR has no real jerks! Therefore, the so-called "spoiler" S-U-P-E-R put in his thread title could not really have been a spoiler at all!

You thought super was serious, sb? Oh. Well. Don't feel bad, I might have believed him too if I hadn't already played the first case of the third game.

...Though, come to think of it, I guess Maya probably does die if you lose the final case.

In order to be able to complete the game in a reasonable amount of time you probably want to limit the game to no more than eight or ten people.

I don't think that will be a problem. Unless 3 more people sign up, we won't even have enough to play....

You've got to expect it from these guys though. Their main focus is to constantly push the bar forward on graphics. They don't care what it costs, they just want the most powerful hardware available.

Well. They care about graphics a good deal, but it's not like they completely shun older hardware. If I recall, they paid special care to make sure Doom 3 looked and ran well on older systems, which isn't always true of cutting edge PC games.
