TalkBack / eDemensional Puts Down Rumors Regarding Nintendo

When all else fails, deny deny deny.

eDimensional Denies Internet Rumors About Potential Partnership with Nintendo

West Palm Beach, FL - May 5, 2005 - eDimensional, the leading manufacturer and worldwide distributor of cutting edge gaming and virtual reality accessories, today denied rumors circulating on the Internet that they were in negotiation with Nintendo Co., Ltd., of Kyoto, Japan, the acknowledged worldwide leader in the creation of interactive entertainment.

According to online buzz, the Florida-based company is in discussion with Nintendo to license or sell its patented stereoscopic 3D technology, which is currently featured on the eDimensional 3D Gaming Glasses and VirtualFX console product, for use by Nintendo in future console systems. Several internet websites and forums are speculating that Nintendo is preparing to enhance the gaming console experience with stereoscopic 3D graphics. Because of eDimensional's ability to convert a two dimensional image on a standard television screen, using the VirtualFX, into a 3D image, some may be correlating this with Nintendo's possible upgrade.

"While it is typically our policy not to comment on rumors or speculation, due to the overwhelming number of phone calls and emails inquiring about this we felt the need to acknowledge that eDimensional is in no formal discussion or negotiation with Nintendo regarding our stereoscopic 3D technology," said Michael Epstein, CEO of eDimensional.

Now come on and let's be realistic.  While I don't see Nintendo going third party, just because they said before that they won't, it doesn't mean it's true.  No one - not even Nintendo -  can predict the future...

I suppose you're right - no one can predict the future. Okay, if Nintendo goes 3rd Party, PGC will deploy the NinteNinjas to go back in time and fix any mistakes that caused this to happen. There's your answer.

TalkBack / Star Fox Assaults Europe
« on: April 29, 2005, 02:07:02 PM »
In a related story, Falco Lombardi has violated his South American restraining order.

Gaming's Best Known Fox Is Back Today Launching An Assault On The Nintendo GameCube

29 April 2005 - Intergalactic commander, Fox McCloud, is the most famous woodland animal in gaming history. Since his introduction in 1993, the Star Fox series has gone from strength to strength, attracting a huge international following of fans. Now the Fox is taking to the skies once again as Star Fox Assault launches across Europe for the Nintendo GameCube today - 29th April 2005!

Star Fox Assault, the latest addition to the franchise, sees a return to the intense and exciting space battles which made the series world famous. Star Fox Assault takes place several years after the team successfully averted disaster on Dinosaur planet. Players can choose to compete in head to head combat or in single player mode. In single player mode, Fox McCloud with the help of his colleagues must investigate a new threat to the galaxy where a sinister plot begins to unravel...

Fans of the series will remember the original Star Fox on the Super NES when the first game was launched to huge acclaim back in March 1993. Starwing was one of the first games ever to use three-dimensional graphics for its action-packed gameplay. The series began by following the adventures of the Star Fox team, a group of hot-shot space mercenaries, dedicated to eradicating the universe of evil - for the right price of course! Under the direction of General Pepper, the team fought their way across the Lylat System against the evil forces of Emperor Andross, who had enslaved the galaxy. Gameplay consisted solely of air-based missions, with the player piloting the now legendary Arwing starship.

The next step in the Star Fox franchise was the release of the hugely successful Lylat Wars on the Nintendo 64 in October 1997. Lylat Wars used the basic principles laid down in Starwing but took it to the next level. Once again, Fox McCloud and the team took on the forces of Andross but with a number of groundbreaking additions. Most importantly, Lylat Wars was the first game on any Nintendo system to feature joypad force-feedback. Thanks to the 'Rumble Pak' peripheral that was included with the game, players were able to feel every explosion, hit and bump as they made their way through the game. In addition, players were able to take on enemies on the ground and water in the Landmaster Tank and Bluemarine sub. Finally, rather than being a single player experience, up to four friends could get together and go head-to-head with intense dogfights.

Star Fox fever reached a new height as Fox McCloud made a cameo appearance in both Super Smash Bros titles on the N64 and then later on the Nintendo GameCube in 2002. However, Star Fox first featured on the Nintendo GameCube in November 2002 with the launch of Star Fox Adventures. It was here that the series took a radical departure from the established formula into an adventure game. Fox McCloud left the comfort of his Arwing cockpit so that players could take direct control of their hero. However, numerous sub-stages allowed Fox to jump back into the seat of the Arwing and blast his way through space, in order to travel from location to location.

The new Star Fox Assault gives you an entire galaxy to explore from the comfort of your living room. It launches across Europe only for the Nintendo GameCube on 29th April 2005 and is available at the estimated retail price of around £40.

Can Pac-Man say "Waka waka" with an English accent?

DRAW ON YOUR RESOURCES AS PAC-PIX COMES TO NINTENDO DS

29 April 2005 - Everyone's favourite hero, Pac-Man, is back with a whole new adventure exclusively for Nintendo DS. PAC-PIX allows you to utilise the Nintendo DS touch-screen like never before! Use your artistic talents to draw and create a self-animating Pac-Man, as well as special gestures including arrows and bombs. Watch as Pac-Man comes to life on-screen for a totally new gameplay experience.

Mischievous Ghosts have invaded books and paintings, causing trouble around the world, and now it's up to Pac-Man to lock all the Ghosts inside one final book using his Magic Pen, the only weapon which can defeat them. You are in control, and must now take over Pac-Man's quest to defeat the pesky spirits.

Pac-Man can be drawn in any size- the smaller he is, the faster he will move! Draw up to three Pac-Mans on screen at once! There are many different types of Ghosts in the game, each with their own capabilities. Some move faster, while others can only be attacked from a certain direction.

Later chapters challenge not only the player's drawing ability, but also their brainpower, requiring some quick puzzle thinking to beat the Ghosts. Players can also unlock collectable cards, further adding to the replay value.

PAC-PIX launches on 20th May at an estimated retail price of £29.99. The Nintendo DS launched in the UK on the 11th March 2005 at the estimated retail price of £99.99.

It's official. Nintendogs is a huge hit in Japan.

Japanese Judges Rate Nintendo's Puppies 'Perfect' as DS Sales Increase Fivefold

Animal lovers and Nintendo fans in Japan are proving that it's almost impossible to say no to a puppy. Nintendogs(TM), the new puppy simulator for Nintendo DS(TM), hit Japanese stores April 21. In its first week, it boosted daily sales of hand-held Nintendo DS systems more than five times the average daily sales rate of the previous seven weeks. It has become the fastest-selling DS game ever for Nintendo while receiving top marks from critics.

Nintendogs, which launches in North America later this year, lets players pick a puppy from a variety of breeds and train it to chase a ball, go for a walk or learn tricks. The realistic puppies respond to voice commands and to a rub or a tap on the touch screen of Nintendo DS. Nintendogs makes use of amazing artificial intelligence.

But the appeal of Nintendogs goes beyond cuteness. Four notoriously tough game reviewers scrutinized Nintendogs for Weekly Famitsu, Japan's leading video game magazine. All four reviewers returned with top scores of 10, for an extraordinary overall perfect score of 40.

Some English-speaking fans already have imported copies of Nintendogs for their Nintendo DS systems and are blogging about their experiences. One example can be found at puppytimes.blogspot.com:
"Here I am, 30 years old and I'm talking to my virtual dog. Even more alarming is how totally disarmed and attached I feel to the little bugger already." In addition, Nintendo has video and screen shots of the adorable puppies in action at www.nintendo.com.

Pac-Man Fever comes to the Nintendo DS.

The Legendary Pac-Man Makes His Nintendo DS(TM) System Debut

SANTA CLARA, Calif., (April 26, 2005) – Leading video games developer and publisher Namco Hometek Inc. announced today that "PAC-PIX(TM)" has shipped to retail outlets throughout North America for the Nintendo DS™ system.  Combining classic Pac-Man gameplay and the unique technology of the DS system, "PAC-PIX" lets players draw and control their very own Pac-Man as he chases down Ghosts in this innovative adventure.

Pac-Man is about to embark on his most heroic quest yet and face off against his perpetual foes, the Ghosts.  One day, a mischievous wizard created something called “Ghost Ink.” Everything drawn with this ink turned into Ghosts.  Up to their old tricks, the Ghosts started to cause chaos throughout the world.  Pac-Man rushed to trap the Ghosts in a book using his trusty Magic Pen, but in the process of turning them back into Ghost Ink, our hero finds himself trapped inside.  Now, it’s up to the player to pick up Pac-Man’s Magic Pen – using the DS stylus – and finish off the Ghosts once and for all.

"PAC-PIX" literally puts Pac-Man’s fate into the hands of the player by utilizing the DS system’s stylus and touch screen to draw Pac-Man, shooting arrows and exploding bombs to reach Ghosts ripe for the chomping.  Bigger Ghost Bosses call for a bigger Pac-Man, and larger bombs cause larger blasts.  Pac-Man can even travel between the upper and lower DS screens, collecting items to maintain a steady diet of fruit and Ghosts.  If one’s not enough, draw up to three Pac-Mans on screen at once.

“'PAC-PIX' lets players express their creativity through the DS’s stylus and touch screen by drawing Pac-Man and a variety of items to track down pesky Ghosts,” said Yoshi Niki, Business Unit Director at Namco Hometek Inc.  “People have been drawing Pac-Man for 25 years, and we now have the capability to let players bring these drawings to life in an all-new adventure.”

The game has sold over 200,000 across Europe within a month of launch and stores across the UK will also be receiving additional stock this week following the phenomenal demand at launch.

Adding to the remarkable Resident Evil successes over the years, which have seen 25 million games sold since its original launch in 1996, the launch of Resident Evil 4 also saw increased Nintendo GameCube sales across Europe, doubling its market share. The UK launch was the best seen on Nintendo GameCube since the release of Mario Kart: Double Dash!!

The limited edition Resident Evil 4 bundle also launched on the same day as the game and consists of a Platinum and Black Resident Evil 4 branded Nintendo GameCube, a platinum and black controller featuring the Resident Evil 4 logo, a copy of the game and a special bonus disc featuring making of footage of Resident Evil 4, plus game movies of Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis; Resident Evil Code: Veronica, Resident Evil Zero, Resident Evil 4 and a playable demo of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes.

Taking place years after the T-virus outbreak, the storyline and gameplay structure have dramatically changed to allow more emphasis on action. Players move through the game as Special Agent Leon S. Kennedy who is on a top secret mission. His investigation into the abduction of the President's daughter has led him to a mysterious location in Europe. As Leon encounters all new unimaginable horrors, he must find out who or what is behind this new nightmare.

TalkBack / Popular Bands Lend Songs to Fantastic Four
« on: April 14, 2005, 07:58:46 AM »
Unique tracks will appear in both online trailers and as unlockables in the game.

Taking Back Sunday, Jurassic 5, The Explosion and Go Betty Go Create Original Songs That Echo Unique Characteristics of Fantastic Four Super Heroes

SANTA MONICA , Calif. , April 14, 2005 : For the first time ever, four popular bands have written and recorded original tracks specifically for the lead characters in a video game. The songs will debut in four character-specific trailers that will be released online in April and May, and will be included as unlockable bonus content in Activision, Inc.'s (Nasdaq: ATVI) upcoming Fantastic Four game, which is slated to ship this summer. The songs echo the distinctive personalities and special powers of each of the Fantastic Four Super Heroes.

Chart topping modern rock band, Taking Back Sunday, lead the team with "Error Operator" for Mr. Fantastic; hip-hop veterans, Jurassic 5, rock out "Clobberin' Time" for The Thing; punk-rock up-and-comers, The Explosion, light up "I'm on Fire" for The Human Torch; and all-girl punkers, Go Betty Go, blast out the cerebral tour de force "Everywhere" for The Invisible Woman.

"Creating four unique character-driven songs and music video-like trailers is a whole new approach at integrating music into games," said Tim Riley, worldwide executive of music, Activision, Inc. "This project underscores our strategy to use artists that are aligned with the content and feel of our titles, further enhancing the overall sensory experience for players. The Fantastic Four game also will feature the signature musical theme from the film's score, which was composed by John Ottman, whose credits include X2: X-Men United and The Usual Suspects."

This is the only game based on Twentieth Century Fox's upcoming feature film. Fantastic Four game players will be able to harness the Marvel Super Heroes' unique and amazing powers through a compelling single-player or two-player co-operative team based gameplay experience. Authored by Zak Penn, who co-wrote the story for X2, the game follows the Fantastic Four film's storyline and expands the adventures by letting players stretch, control fire and use invisibility and brute force to defeat evil Super Villains in new environments and familiar comic book locales. Challenged to master the individual powers of each Super Hero and combine them to level even more devastating attacks, players must battle some of Marvel's most notorious Super Villains, including, the ultimate evil - Doctor Doom - to save the human race from disaster.

Fantastic Four is being developed by Seven Studios for the PlayStation ® 2 computer entertainment system, Xbox TM video game system from Microsoft and the Nintendo ® GameCube TM . The PC version is being developed by Beenox Studios and Torus Games is developing Fantastic Four for the Game Boy ® Advance. The PC and console games are rated "T" (Teen - with mild language and violence) by the ESRB and the Game Boy Advance title is rated "E-10+" for (Everyone 10 and older with violence).

Fantastic Four opens in theaters nationwide on July 8th.

Interesting topic. When it comes to booth babes, I've always associated them with swetty palms and messy hair. And the guys who take pictures with them aren't always in the best shape either *rimshot*. Seriously, though, as a male gamer, I've never been all that interested in them. They're PAID to be nice to you. To me, that means that kind of ruins it, so when I do go to this shiny and magical world that is E3, I'll probably be occupied with other things. Like playing games of all things.

French Developer/Publisher Ubisoft sets up camp in Quebec.

Ubisoft Announces the Opening of New Development Studio in Quebec City

Quebec City, Canada - April 11, 2005 - Today Ubisoft, one of the world's largest video game publishers, announced the creation of a new videogame development studio that will employ 200 designers, animators and programmers in Quebec City. This announcement is part of the recently announced project to create 1000 new jobs by 2010 in Quebec, thereby bringing its total number of employees to 2000 in the province.

"Our expected growth in the five coming years will now come from both Montreal, as announced last February, and Quebec City," said Martin Tremblay,  President and COO of Ubisoft's Montreal studios. "Quebec City is a recognized creative hub and well-known for its academic institutions both at the university and college level. Ubisoft intends to play a key role in the development of the local industry and be a major contributor to Quebec City's international renown."

Mr. Michel Despres, Transport Minister and Minister in charge of the National Capital, Mr. Jean-Paul L'Allier, Mayor of Quebec City, Martin Tremblay and Stephane Mouchel-Vichard, Managing Director of Gameloft Canada, were present at the announcement.

To realize this endeavour and set up an innovative new studio in Quebec City, Ubisoft will invest 75 million Canadian dollars over the next five years. "Quebec and its surrounding areas are filled with talent," said Tremblay. "This has been a well-kept secret for too long. We are convinced that the region's young creatives have a lot to offer Ubisoft. In return, we believe that our company can offer some very interesting career opportunities in a growing and dynamic sector of the digital entertainment industry."

Ubisoft launched a development studio in Montreal in 1997, expecting to create 800 jobs in five to ten years. Ubisoft currently employs more than 1000 staff in Montreal. Games recently developed in Ubisoft's Montreal studios include Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, (launched March, 31st following the success of the first two Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell titles that have sold over 10 million copies world-wide), Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, (which sold 1.8 million copies in the first two weeks of its release in December 2004, double that of its predecessor), as well as Myst IV Revelation (the fourth edition of one of the most successful video game titles in history).
