Nintendo Gaming / Now that several months have passed
« on: June 25, 2005, 02:22:38 PM »
I was curious as to whether people are happy with their Nintendo DS? Have your opinions changed in anyway since the start?

For me I am quite happy with my nintendo DS, I bought a PSP but ended up selling it because it felt like a mini PS2 instead of a handheld. At the start I enjoyed Feel The Magic, and SM64 DS though I have to admit I wasn't thrilled with the lack of games. Now that several months have passed I think DS has turned into a quality handheld with a great selection of good games, whether it be Pac Pix, WarioWare Touched, Kirby Canvas Curse (A very unique game), and from what I hear Bomberman along with Yoshi Touch N Go are quality games. Yes Nintendo DS did start out slow, but I think it is starting prove itself with games like those that I've listed.

I think it is quite unfair to compare something like Zelda: WW with RE4, they have two drastically different graphical schemes. Zelda is more expansive with more on the screen, while RE4 is more condensed in comparison. It is like comparing something like Fight Night Round 2 with RE4, if you took the detail of the models FNR2 beats RE4 easily, but that is only because the game is more condensed and thus can use more detailed graphical models. Personally I am more impressed with Zelda: TP than RE4 since it appears Zelda is going to do alot more with the graphics than RE4 did since Zelda has always been about exploration.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Bloody Zelda?

As with everyone else, Zelda with nudity would be quite lame. It would be very out of place and completely unnecessary. I've been of the mindset that gore and nudity should only be used sparingly and to prove a point, anymore seems silly (God of War is a perfect example of that, especially the "bed scene", that seemed to be there just for the sake of being "mature"). I do admit I enjoy the GTA series but I don't take it seriously either, and personally would pick up a Mario or Zelda game over it ANYDAY. God of War is an ok game, but it felt like a Rygar clone and like other hack n slash games it started getting repetetive, though I do admit the game has its moments (the first stage was a blast and quite thrilling).

Ok thanks .

Perhaps someone can answer this, but what is the "MSX" version of both MGS1 and 2?

13181
Hey I remember the sloppy launch, though I was one of the first to buy a PS2 (I remember waiting at 5:30am in front of my local shopping center everyday to see if they had one). I also remember the images Sony showed of how graphically superior PS2 was and it turns out they were nothing like the final game!

Definately some interesting news, I didn't think about the multi purpose requirements for hardware, though this more than reaffirms my claim even if Nintendo Revolution is only 2 or 3 times more powerful than GC it is in the area of graphical display (which is quite good).

13183
I too do not understand Ian's statements about Nintendo releasing bland looking games on GC, Luigi's Mansion had alot of artistic flare to it along with Super Mario Sunshine. In fact I've found all the games to be what I love from NIntendo when it comes to graphics, smooth framerates with alittle hit on graphical details. The sport games were great for what they were and like the majority of Nintendo's games in the past they were smooth flowing (something companies seem to forget, they sacrifice framerate for pretty graphics). Not only that but Wind Waker, like it or hate, you have to admit it had some great visuals so if anything that is one area where Nintendo has remained consistent! And about their statements regarding the non-gamer, I think they are mainly referring to the casual gamer which I think Nintendo has been great at throughout their lifespan (take the Mario Party series or even Mario Kart!).

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Revolution controller Mock up
« on: May 23, 2005, 04:21:40 PM »
What a revolution LOL!

13185
One other thing is that for the most part NIntendo is great when it comes for ease of developing for their consoles. What they may sacrifice in power is made up by ease of development (Just look at GC vs PS2 and their specs, then look at the graphics).

13186
I've been reading various posts from individuals complaining about Nintendo's statement of Revolution being 2-3 times more powerful than GC. If anyone has followed the history of Nintendo they should know by now that Nintendo has never skimped on power with their consoles, the majority have been top of the line and if not barely below the top.

We need to take into consideration that Nintendo is HONEST about their specs, when they say 2-3 times more powerful they most likely mean that the system will be able to produce games that run and look 2 to 3 times better. Considering games like RE4 and the upcoming Zelda, 2 to 3 times more powerful sounds pretty darn good! Even if the Xbox 360 and PS3 (PS3 especially) games looked like they did in the videos they in no way shape or form running at 30 to 40 times more graphical might than PS2 or Xbox, in fact if anything it is 3 to 4 times if you were to look at the graphical quality (and that is without knowing things like framerate).

Nintendo has never been one to doctor pictures of games like other companies tend to do (I don't think I need to name names here), usually what you see from Nintendo is what the game really looks like. Not only that but Nintendo has said in the past that progressivel hardware is a given, but it is how we play the games is where the focus should be on. This leads me to believe there is the normal hardware upgrade that will compete with Xbox 360 and PS3 with alittle extra "revolution" thrown in for good measure.

So in conclusion before people start panicking look at Nintendo's past when it comes to consoles, hardware power has never been an issue despite those bashing the MP3 movies from a game that is obviously in its early stages. Would you all have been happy if Nintendo showed a FMV or doctored movie of a "graphically impressive" Metroid that wouldn't look anything like the final version? I would hope not!

I find it quite humorous that the chances of this Revolution news will overshadow the revealed of the Xbox 360, and all the Revolution news is on is just basic things .

Hey no ripping on the MP series, they are great with family and friends. This could be a good thing for that series though since Nintendo may either continue the series themselves or give it to someone else, which could mean a step up for the franchise.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:I cancelled my PSP preorder today
« on: March 10, 2005, 04:19:57 PM »
It is doubtful that I will get the PSP anytime soon, I don't know about others but I am someone who feels Handheld games are meant to be unique to their console breathern. A console in portable form is not what I'm looking for!

That makes two, I've wanted the game ever since I saw it in the trailer. Looks simple, yet fun.

« on: March 08, 2005, 10:21:08 PM »
I finished watching the trailer, and boy does that gun look out of place. The game doesn't look half bad if you removed the gun, but with the gun it looks beyond cheesy and thrown in. Look's like Sega took the game advice people wanted of Nintendo with Mario to make him more "mature" and thought it was a good idea. Maybe Mario hijacking cars and negotiating drug deals is not too far down the line ::shudders::.

TalkBack / RE:Nintendo Breeding Electroplankton for DS

Ah Seaman was a great game, too bad I will never see a sequel

Well so far I see about 4 or 5 potential triple A titles coming out. There is Yoshi's Touch and Go, Castlevania DS, WarioWare Touched (even though it is said to be inferior to WWT for GBA is still a solid title), Metroid Hunters, Animal Crossing, along with Bomberman and Sonic being possible sleeper hits. I'm sure there are some that I've missed, along with some that haven't been officially announced. So for me at least things are looking bright, along with the possibility of a brand spanking new Mario platformer this year! Things are slow at the moment, but if you recall so was N64, and in the end it had some of the best games ever created once it was put to rest. I think it is that the industry (even Nintendo to an extent) want to see how well NDS does before putting their hearts in it, and well from the looks of the sales things do look bright, so the games should be coming in soon.

13196
Nintendo is a big company with various departments, the resources they use on a Metroid Pinball game or any other spin off is not necessarily going to impact work they are doing on a platformer or adventure. Nintendo has always multitasked with different departments and companies handling various game developments, so if anything Metroid Pinball will add to their lineup of games in development rather than detract elsewhere.

TalkBack / RE:Metroid Pinball DS, Metroid Prime: Hunters Delayed
« on: February 10, 2005, 07:03:07 PM »
I don't understand one of the poster's comment about this showing DS is the gimmick system and PSP is the true handheld. If I recall GB and GBA both had their share of pinball games, in fact one of the main reasons for portables is something you can pick up and play, which means it is nice to have games that are simple to get into. YOu don't need a billion platformers or action games, but simple pick up and play games are great too!

Ian complaining? I am indeed shocked . Personally I am going to wait and see, it could be fun a blast, it wouldn't be the first time a mature themed game has been pinballized, House of the Dead was.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:psp is online now wheres nintendos plan
« on: February 08, 2005, 09:04:27 PM »
You can always rely on Ian to spread gloom and doom for Nintendo. I still believe the price of PSP is going to be a huge kicker (especially the ridiculous prices at Gamestop.com and ebgames) along with 50$ games. One thing I've never understood though is that Sony always talks like the PS brand name is for older gamers, how does a portable system fall into the older gamer bracket? Chances are anyone over 21 is not going to have time to play a portable statistically.

TalkBack / RE:Sony's PSP Strikes in March
« on: February 03, 2005, 02:40:31 PM »
I really think this a bad move by Sony, IMO they would have been much better off launching at 200$ or less without all the frills. Granted people are going to have buy the memory sticks but in many people's minds they don't read this purcahse as "part of the system" but as extra money. As it stands now people are going to see PSP as a 250$ portable system which is NOT that enticing!
