General Chat / RE:Lost
« on: October 05, 2006, 05:48:28 PM »
I guess why I get kind of touchy about it is that I was a huge fan of Smallville (my favorite seasons were 2 and 3), and I seen it shift from characters to being more action oriented. The reason for this was because people didn't like the slower moving seasons so they brought in some writers who worked on Buffy the Vampire Slayer to make it more action oriented. Do I still watch the show? Yeah I do, it is still fun to watch but it is almost a shell of what it once was, and I would hate for Lost to fall into that trap.

Spak we can't forget there is more to a system launch than how many units are going to be available, you have to take into consideration the polishing of games coming out for it as well. Personally I think that is why Nintendo delayed the launch, in order to give themselves and other 3rd parties time to polish their games.

No problem, really though out of all the ones dissapointed with Lost you definately have the most legit reasons. I just get upset when I hear people complain about it being more dialogue driven and how they want to completely change the show to more action/oriented when it is not meant to be that.

Mr. Jack you should watch the Season 2 DVD of Lost, it will show you there is indeed a plan for the show and will help you appreciate Season 2 even more. Don't believe me? Well you should check out this review he felt the same.

Here is a little snippet:
Quote

Starting with Disc One after some nine months of seeming disappointment with the show, I originally looked at the task of reviewing the show as an unenviable and unenjoyable one. Thankfully, I was wrong; the series plays much better on DVD, where one can watch as much or little as one wants (or has time for), and where the extra features actually expand and explain the conception of the show as it transitions into Season Three. The bonus materials remind fans that there is an actual plan to the show's flow, and that there are forces both creative and technical at work designing the intricate and secretive tales that expand the Lost mythology. This is definitely one of the best TV-to-DVD sets of the year, and a must-have for inveterate and uninitiated Lost fans alike.

I am not sure if I am getting it, I already have RE4 and RE0, then again I am a sucker for shiney collector editions of things so I may not be able to help myself!

Amazing episode as usual, really if you people are looking for answers then I suggest you look else where. Lost is a character driven show that is more focused on the people and their reactions to what is going on around them, it is completely unique from most shows on TV. Yeah their are mysteries and questions, but what makes Lost great are the characters, not how the story is progressing. I sure hope that people haven't pressured the writers into completely ruining it with making it more action packed.

::rant::

What Lost does not need is it to be dumbed down for the ADD people out there that can't stand not being spoon fed answers and don't appreciate the depth of the characters, which I find to be far more interesting than "What is going on" even if that is engaging as well. Lost was built around characters and it should remain about characters, and I would sure hate to see the whiners ruin one of most unique shows EVER because they don't appreciate the dialogue over the answers (and actually makes you think). I would rather see the show cancelled before it becomes what some people want it to be. So I say if you are one of those peoples who dislike it because it "hasn't revealed much in the way of answers" well I would be thrilled if you watched another show and instead turn that show into generic garbage through your complaints (Or maybe it already is, so you don't have to. YOu can be satisfied from the get go). I seen the same thing happen with Smallville where its 2nd and 3rd seasons were more character driven, yet after complaints that have turned it into a more "me happy, have lots of action" type of show.

::end of rant::

I'll still hold out for some reviews and if they are strong I guess I have another launch game to look forward to.

It definately is on my list, I really want to know if Kairon has changed his mind a bit regarding it after reading the new gameplay details.  The game looks to be a unique and engaging experience with complexity to boot!

I have been looking for the missing bonus levels that were never released in NA and I was wondering if there are any saves out there that let me transfer the remaining levels to my GBA?

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Elebits
« on: October 04, 2006, 11:35:05 PM »
For those concerned about the game being shallow, here is what the latest issue of NP says about it:

Quote

The last time we took a look at Konami's Elebits, it was shaping up to be a fun first-person scavenger hunt in which you could use the Wii controller to interact with just about everything in the environment as you searched high and low for energy-producing creatures called Elebits. That's all still true, but as development on the game progresses, we're learning that there's a lot more to Elebits than initially met the eye.

For starters, the developers at Konami have significantly fleshed out the way you proceed through the game, which is primarily set in and around the young hero's house. When you begin a level, no Elebits are providing power to the various fixtures in the room, but as you use your capture gun to snag the little critters, it will increase the wattage in the area, and as you reach specific benchmarks, dormant appliances will become usable. In the kitchen, for example, the lights, door, oven, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, and toaster all activate after you collect a set number of Elebits, and each one unlocks a new opportunity to interact with the game world-such as putting a turkey in the oven, popping popcorn in the microwave, or making ice cubes in the freezer. Manipulating the objects in such a fashion inevitably reveals even more Elebits, which activate more contraptions, and the puzzlelike advancement continues. The game structure is somewhat reminiscent of sleeper hit Katamari Demacy.

To make the game even deeper, Elebits features an experience system that allows the capture gun to increase in strength. While many of the creatures-such as the blue, red, and flying orange Elebits-simply provide more electrical power upon their capture, special gold Elebits reward you with experience points that that level up the gun and thereby let you lift bigger, heavier objects (and thus explore more of the environment). Adding to the complexity, the game utilizes a sound parameter that measures the amount of racket you make as you toss around furniture and appliances. Some Elebits are frightened by sound, so at times it's in your best interests to stay quiet: a few of the game's 15-plus stages even require you to keep the decibel level low.

Other levels are a bit more hazardous. Naughty black Elebits can attack the hero (yes, you do have a life meter), and in some missions your goal is to take out particularly aggressive boss Elebits. When you're tired of completing missions, however, you can kick back and enjoy a score-attack mode, or you can snag Elebits competitively with up to three friends; at press time, Konami representatives anticipated that the multiplayer mode would include the same stages as single-player mode. However you choose to play Elebits, it's certain to be an electrifying experience.

The game sounds like it is going to be great with this added complexity (I'm not surprised though!).

This is a bit off topic but I find it funny that during the N64 days it was a big deal for the games to have 680 x 480 resolution, I think it was even referred to as "High resolution" especially with the use of the expansion pack.

OK guys here is an update from my side of things, I talked to the manager at my local gamestop about the Wii and PS3 preorder. He told me that although he did not hear the October 9th date he did say to call EVERY morning all next week because that is what appears to be the time the stores start taking preorders.

Sixth is right, this is not a huge deal because Wii is going to sell out regardless, so might as well wait a bit for other stores to get Wiis when they actually have consoles to buy.

That too! Can't believe I forgot that. There is probaly more advanced and pricier technology in the Wiimote alone than the whole PS3 controller (which is why I think the price of the wiimote/nunchuck is somewhat justified).

Yeah 40$ for a controller that has been exactly the same since the PS2 days with cheap "motion control".

Looks like the GC will be getting one more game, or should I say games. It looks like Capcom, through EBgames and Gamestop are going to have an exclusive RE Anniversary collection that comes with Resident Evil (the remake), Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil 4 (to bad there is no RE2 or 3!). The collection will retail for 39.99.

Was Factor 5 ever second party? I mean some of their games like Roque Squadron also ended up on the PC. Their situation seemed to be just that they prefered to work with Nintendo, much in the same way that last generation Tecmo seemed to prefer working on the Xbox.

I think you may be right about that one. So I guess I could clarify my statement by saying that studios that made exclusive games mainly for Nintendo consoles during the GC/N64 era that were pushed out the door (or decided to leave by themselves) were not huge losses.
