General Gaming / RE:Confirmed: PS3 Pre-Orders in GS/EB Tomorrow 10/10
« on: October 09, 2006, 06:50:42 PM »
You guys won't believe this. I went into Gamestop today (in response to the phone call) expecting them to tell me about tomorrows presale. After waiting for a bit and one of the guys who works there (who knows my name) was free, he told me to get a gift card (I had no idea what was going on). In a very quiet voice he asked if I wanted the 500$ or 600$ PS3, I said the 600$ one, and he made some mention about how there are going to be a ton of people in line, then he slid the gift card, asked me to slide my credit card, and the next thing I know I had a 100$ down payment on the PS3. I asked if I needed to do anything else he said "Nope", I was in absolute shock. It is obvious they are giving some of us either preferencial treatment (if this is so my guess it is for the people like me who had to wait a long time for our preorder of the Xbox 360 to come in), or they had a lottery system. Or maybe it was my glowing personality . Either way I was in shock and quite happy!

I wonder why they didn't tell me anything over the phone, they called me up and said "Come into the store today before we close, it is regarding the PS3".

I have a feeling that alot of the lag is caused by so many systems close to each other, and the calibration they must do in order to get things to work properly in that kind of setting. Maybe Pale can tell us what Zelda TP was like in the way of lag since he played it in an enviroment that was meant to simulate a living room.

I have had no luck so far in finding the game at my local stores (heck even Ebgames.com is out of it!).

I have no worries regarding the Wiimote, I feel that Nintendo, over anyone, realizes how important the controller is and will not screw it up. In regards to the learning curve, I think you need to differeniate between the "games" and the "non-games". Non-Games will be built around simple movements (or button presses) that any person can understand, while the more complex games will require a slight learning curve. We also have to realize that since we were all pretty much brought up on control pads, changing to the motion control adds even more to the learning curve than someone who is not really used to game pads.

I believe the announced games so far for launch are:

Rayman
Excite Truck
Legend of Zelda
Red Steel

Ones that I'm not sure about:
Elebits
Madden
FarCry
GT
Call of Duty 3
Marvel Alliance

About the Wiimote colors, I have no idea.

Any of you guys know about how much stores make off the games? I've always wondered that, anyway those goodies look pretty neat, I may have to pick some up!

Well for those of us that want Nintendo to do well it is important. This story shows that Nintendo should have the ability to meet demand all throughout the holidays and well into next year. It may seem like a minor thing, but I believe lack of systems, even after the holidays was the one big thing that hurt MS and the Xbox 360. So yeah, this is good news to release for those of us that don't want Nintendo to fall into the MS trap of shortages MONTHS after launch.

I'll probaly rent the game but personally I'm going to wait for a PC version of it (I know it will happen!). BTW here is a pretty ridiculous quote from G4 about the visuals

Quote

Graphically, it looked fine—up to the level of COD on an Xbox. Activision must have worked very hard to wring this much graphical power from the little Nintendo.

I don't know about you guys but G4 must either be

A) Biased against Nintendo
B) Incredibly nieve since even the unofficial specs give it more graphical "power" than Xbox.

Hey now Madden 2007 was very much worth the money for Xbox 360, it felt like a "next-generation" game with gameplay that diffentiated it from the previous generation along with most of the modes.

The game looks interesting, and in response to Ian's comments about fighters, I think I have to agree. Then again I could be proven wrong, and if I'm not it isn't like the fighting genre is that big anymore.

General Gaming / RE:Sony getting hit Hard lately
« on: October 06, 2006, 05:59:34 PM »
Arbok I meant that the N64 more as an example of being the start Nintendo's decline (I know it was more profitable than GC) and was trying to contrast that with what potentially may happen with PS3, and that Sony will have  a much tougher time coming back due to the huge losses on each system while Nintendo didn't have those losses to worry about on the system.

General Gaming / RE:Sony getting hit Hard lately

I do think PS3 will be like the N64, in that it won't do badly but definately will not be the market leader. But like others mentions the big difference is that Nintendo lost no money (there seemed to be hints they in fact made money) on the N64, while Sony is losing their butts on each one sold. That could make it VERY hard to come back.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Developers in Japan EXTREMELY excited for Wii
« on: October 06, 2006, 07:03:35 AM »
I do think the Wii has a chance to really change things with its cheap development costs and that people tend to overlook that aspect too much. When a company can make games for it for roughly 1/3 the cost of an Xbox 360/PS3 has potential to really change the direction the game development community was going (More and more expensive) and allows for more wiggle room when it comes to experimentation.

Nintendo Gaming / Developers in Japan EXTREMELY excited for Wii
« on: October 05, 2006, 10:34:34 PM »
IGN has posted these results for all 3 next generation consoles from various Japanese developers. The Wii has the highest expectation and excitement level out of all of them.

Here are some key quotes:

PS3

Quote

First up, a question on how much the developers expect out of the next generation systems. For the PS3, 48% said that they have extremely high expectations for the system, with 32% having just high expectations. 18% said that they don't expect much of the system at all.

vs

Wii

And then, we come to the Wii, which seems to have the favor of the entire Japanese development community. 36% have high expectations for the system, with 63% claiming extremely high expectations. Only 1% of responders said that they weren't expecting all that much from Nintendo's new system.

Who will come out on top:

Quote

Finally, Famitsu put all three systems against one another. In the category of system sales, 60% of those surveyed expect Wii to come out on top. PS3 took 37% of the vote compared to Xbox 360's 3%. The PS3's price point was cited as reason for the low expectations.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:classic controller
« on: October 05, 2006, 10:20:09 PM »
I am going to say MOST VC games will require the controller (I guess it is still possible for GC ones to work) except for NES games which may utilize the Wiimote turned on its side.

I think it is kind of neat, this is the first time in quite awhile where you have 3rd parties trying to top each other on a Nintendo system!

Actually you have to pay 60$ for Live 07 on Xbox 360, so there!
