General Gaming / Saints Row 2
« on: October 16, 2008, 03:50:19 PM »
Surprised there has been no topic for this game. Well I finally got to play it a bit and I really enjoy this game, the humor is so off the wall with tons of goofy things you can do that it has to be my favorite sand box game. Whether it is seeing how far I can toss pedestrians (Preferably through a window, off a cliff or into a water fountain), trying to break my car surfing time (Yes you heard that right), or watching cops go after hit and run cars with guns blazing. The game has so much goofy humor and action that it is hard to find much wrong with it beyond that the visuals which are not GTAIV quality.

Nintendo Gaming / Mega Man & Bass. The real MM9
« on: July 29, 2008, 08:15:35 PM »
I just found out about this game and bought a used copy off ebay. This game is GREAT, it not only has the challenge of the original MM games but it also shares great level design and characters. Why did I not know about this game before?

I am so excited for this game, I hope they don't run into the "jedi syndrome" from SWG where everyone has their own ship.

This ALMOST makes up for Ghostbusters being shelved.

If you are feeling down about Nintendo announcing two casual games, and a hug hasn't worked. Let me make a great suggestion, that is to buy a Xbox 360 or PS3. Not only do either of these systems provide a good balance to the Wii but you also realize that things really are not that bad. You get genres of all kinds with these systems. Things are not that bad but as I said, if you can get one of these you will be happy you did! Try it out, and maybe you won't lock yourself in your basement with Kid Icarus for NES. It is the cure.

General Gaming / Banjo-Kazooie heading to Xbox Live Arcade

I personally cannot wait!

The game will feature slightly upgraded visuals and the long awaited "stop and swap" functionality originally promised at its release more than 10 years ago.

Many will remember that the first Banjo-Kazooie game promised to interact with Banjo-Tooie. That didn't pan out, but that feature will finally be realized on Xbox 360. By finding specific items in Banjo-Kazooie on Xbox Live Arcade, you will be able to unlock things in Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts.

Yeah to stop n swap and upgraded visuals. This game is already on my most wanted list!

NWR Forums Discord / Who has the best screen names here?
« on: July 10, 2008, 03:52:58 AM »
Since I feel like it I am going to give some of my favorite screen names I really like here:

Plugabugz-Not sure why but this name sounds so cute and makes me smile when I see him post.

Yoshidious-Another funny name. I love it!

UltimatePartyBear-Once again the cuteness rules with this name.

I find they all have a nice personality and optimistic stance on gaming which seems to be clearly in conflict with the environment on this board. It is almost scary. Nice people scare me here!  :'(

So this is a call for the ban hammers to fall on the nice coming in the forms of Kairon, Maxi, Bill and Greg.

To balance this massacre of nice, I want to praise individuals who are staying in line with the nature of the boards:

Sixth,Dirk, Deq, Pro, Mr. Jack, DAaa, Das, vudu, Ian, Karl, Stan,Shift, Johnny, Smash, Pap Criimm, ME, and various others. A job well done! Also I want to give a personal shout out to Aero who is looking promising.

Guys who need some work but have potential:

ShyGuy, Spak, Mikintosh, Easy, insano, Partying Bear and nick mitch

General Gaming / Battlefield: Bad Company

I finally got to play this game and I am really enjoying it. While it feels more streamlined for consoles it is still a great experience especially with the destructible environment.

General Gaming / Echochrome on PS3
« on: June 13, 2008, 01:07:41 AM »
I am not sure if any of you guys who have PS3s have checked this game out but you NEED to. Perhaps one of the most unique puzzle games since, well, Portal. Basically the premise is that you have to lead this wireframe person through a relatively "simple" level but the character can only progress the level depending on which camera angle you have set up. For example, if there is a gap between two walk ways and you need to get accross it, you need to shift the camera so that gap is hidden which in the games world means it no longer exists. Things get even more complex when you have to fall through a hole and angle the camera so the character falls onto a top level platform. The game is a real treat and will really play tricks with your mind!

General Gaming / Aces of the Galaxy
« on: June 08, 2008, 12:50:26 AM »
I highly recommend Star Fox fans check out Aces of the Galaxy for Xbox Live Arcade. The game plays almost identically to Star Fox 64 (Not a bad thing), and is a lot of fun as well. It is sad that what appears to be the  best Star Fox game since Star Fox 64 isn't even a Star Fox game!

Nintendo Gaming / Ubisoft rationalizes their current support for Wii

The true of the matter is this, the Wii is a very different console than what most games developers are used to. The Wii has managed to make a huge success from having games on it that just would not work on a conventional console. The Wii has also managed to increase the market share to a huge group of people that are not that interested in gaming. With Wii Sports, Wii Fit and all manner of games built for family play, Nintendo know who they are marketing for and it is not die hard gamers. If you look at the most successful Wii games, they are not amazing new AAA games, they are predominantly family orientated games/alternative games.

Looking at the current UK games sales for Wii Wii Sales Link, there are not that many traditional games in the top 30. Trends are changing and not everyone wants a new action game, FPS game or epic RPG, sales of the Wii proves that the majority want something different.

Parents who are buying a console for their children do not really care about Prince of Persia, Rainbow Six or Far Cry on the box, they want games that are going to be good for their children and not get them in the local newspaper. Why else would games like Brain Training/Wii Fit/Mario Party sell in the millions if people wanted hardcore games?

Check the Nintendo DS figures in the UK as well. DS Sales Link. Notice whose name is listed there a few times but also notice which games are listed? We make games that will “hopefully” sell to a selected audience. We are a business after all, but Nintendo know which people are their market, just as Sony and Microsoft know who their markets are. Ubisoft have always been aimed at the more mature market (Look at our back catalogue) and in the last few years have started venturing into the casual gaming market. This is because that market now exists, thanks to the rise in popularity of the Wii and DS. The Wii is still a new console and it still has plenty of time to grow, Nintendo know this and Ubisoft know this.

As for Shaun Whites on the Wii, can you at least wait to get some more information and gameplay on it before binning it? Most people have seen a few screenshots and they already hate it because it does not look as good as the 360 etc but to damn a game just because of looks, and without actually playing it is just silly. All I have seen is various forums doing childish Photoshop screens, at least wait to see the game face to face before turning it into a humorous gif.

I'll flat out say this letter disgusts me and it confuses me at the same time. As we know Red Steel sold VERY well, so what happened to all those gamers that bought the (poor) Red Steel? Did they get eaten by the Sony/MS monster? What about those gamers who bought the RE games from Capcom? The market is there and frankly Ubisoft is bordering on ridiculous. Heaven forbid a 3rd Party Actually put resources in a game and advertise it a bit.

General Gaming / Viva Pinata 2
« on: May 14, 2008, 01:01:26 AM »
For those who never got the chance to play the first game, well you SHOULD. Now I am not the least bit surprised there is a sequel (I found out about it around the time I found out about Pinata Party long before it was announced). I will be pleasantly surprised though if it makes a September launch. Regardless, Rare is making this sequel more by the books but that is not a bad thing, they seem to be tweaking every possible aspect of the game to bring players more into it. What is most exciting is there will be a co-op mode. It will be unfortunate if the game is looked over again, though I do know MS was content with the sales of the last game but they no doubt want to improve them this time.

So who else is excited to raise cute little Pinata animals who maliciously devour other Pinatas? I know I am!

General Gaming / LocoRoco
« on: May 09, 2008, 03:18:17 AM »
Couldn't find a topic in regards to this game, well anyway I got it for my PSP. Before I begin I am trying to get all the good "unique" games for PSP, ones that aren't multiplatform or are spin-offs like the GTA games. Luckily there aren't a ton that interest me (Makes me appreciate the DS) but there are still a few gems on PSP and one of those games is Locoroco.

Have any of you guys played it? It is so much fun and quite innovative, it is the kind of game I would have expected to be on DS or Wii. I hate to say it but that cute music is so catchy with the singing little blob people, I can't help but smile and melt when those little guys are singing. The music overall is great if enjoy more cheerful (and weird) music.

Nintendo Gaming / LostWinds
« on: April 08, 2008, 06:57:03 PM »
I'm not sure if you guys have watch the footage yet at IGN, but you need to see LostWinds in action. If anything the title shows how promising WiiWare can be, the game looks innovative along with being visually pleasing to the eye (Almost embarrassingly so compared to some full priced 3rd party games). It appears to utilize the IR sensor, something that has been virtually ignored for the most part when it comes to expanding gameplay (Though Konami gets a nod for doing it for PES). From viewing the gameplay footage it looks like an interesting mix between a 2D platformer and Kirby's Canvas Curse. So this game is a must buy for me if it is halfway decent.

well if all their new franchises didn’t suck ass…. (oh, yeah cause i totally wanna rock a Professor Layton t-shirt… zzzzz…..zzzzzz…..)

well you can’t fault the wii-remote for being a gimmick from the start…. i was finally playing Phantom Hourglass this morning, and while trying to perfect the “roll” all i kept saying to myself was, “wow, what i wouldn’t give for this to be a button press right now.” …… neither the stylus, or the wii remote are any where close to all the hype……… with the exception of the “pointer” the wii remote is crap…. it’s just not as reliable as everyone (fan boys especially) want to claim…. even crap like Zack & Wiki which for some reason people like to swear as if it’s some ground breaking thing, does not control as responsively as they’d like you to believe…… it’s a gimmick, plain and simple.

supply issues? if you’ve worked at the place(s) i’ve worked over the past year and a half, and seen the things i’ve seen? then you wouldn’t be exactly thinking so highly of Nintendo in this regard.

Nintendo Gaming / The game's roster
« on: March 10, 2008, 06:43:38 PM »
This isn't a roster bashing thread, so please don't turn it into one. This is mainly to discuss our favorite characters and why we like them (or perhaps negatives regarding a particular character). For myself I have been surprised by Snake since I wasn't too excited to play as him, but as I learn the game I think I could really enjoy getting good with him. Also I am pleased that they improved Bowser, it is actually fun to play as him!
