See, this is a typical Nintendo fanboy rant.  These past few years, everyone has been drillin Nintendo for not bring Mario Kart and Pokemon online, and to a lesser degree, for Advance Wars, Animal Crossing, and a few other games.  Now Nintendo is coming along and answering our complaints and giving us our fav games online and what do they get?  "It's like the traditional gamers are supposed to be content with sequels like Mario Kart, Advance Wars and Animal Crossing while all the creativity goes to the non-gamers."  Its like Nintendo has to be mind readers and be able to see the future to be able to answer all our complaints.  We complained about a lack of online and now we are getting them applied to our fav franchises.  Yet now there are newer complaints.  Nintendo fanboys are like nagging girlfreinds who no matter what you do, you can't ever please.  Its a lose lose situation.

?  What exactly does that have to do with what I said?  I never mentioned Metriod Prime 3 in reference to it being a system seller.  Personally, I believe it is, but looking at through the industry's point of view, it isn't a system seller.  The reason I mentioned Metriod Prime 3 is becuase if its developement is based on the previous 2 games (a logical assumption) then you can throw away all these ideas you have of the Rev controller being too simple.  Metriod Prime, as I said in my previos post, has one of the most complex control schemes for a console game.  I don't mean complex in the way that its hard to master but complex in that it allows alot of different functions on the fly.  Tell me how exactly is Rev's "simple" and "dumbied down for the masses" controller goin to allow me to cycle through visors, cycle through beams, run, gun and jump on the fly?  Either the Rev's controller is capable of every function our current controllers allow just in a different form or Metriod Prime 3 is going to be a HUGE departure from the previous 2.  I for one, believe in the former rather than the later (I think thats how the sayin goes lol, anywho, you know what I mean)

To answer the question in regards to the trackball moving with the swaying of the controller.  Could they in someway have the trackball clickable.  Say, for example, if you want to move the trackball, you simply click it down and it'll unlock it to allow movement, then when you have it to how you want it, you simply click it down again and it'll lock in place.  This will work perfectly IMO.  As for fps, since you constantly have to be using the trackball, you won't have to worry about it moving with you swaying the control becuase your thumb will always be resting on the trackball not allowing it to move unless you make it so.

Anyways, I wouldn't worry too much about the controller being drastically simple.  Nintendo has announced Metriod Prime 3 for the Rev and they continue to build off the previos 2 (a logical estimate) then the control will still have to be versatile.  Metriod Prime is one of the most complicated games control wise.  I don't see how we'll be able to switch visors and weapons on the fly while still running, gunning and jumping with a simple controller (unless they were to put the visor and weapons option to be activated through voice command lol)

I was just thinking, of all the controller rumors going around, I think the guy in this blog has got it right, even if he is a fake.

http://theblogs.net/user/kingdea/

Basically, what this guy is claiming is that the Rev controller will be basically a modified Cube controller with reworked face buttons, R and L buttons still similar, z button moved to a trigger position similar to the N64 and another button being added on the left handle as another trigger, gyro built in, squeezable handles, a heating and cooling mechanism, and a trackball as apposed to the second analog stick.

Now please hear me out, I think some of what he says makes sence

Modified face buttons plus R and L buttons

There is no way around this, there really is no way Nintendo IMO will remove all face buttons.  They need to have at least 4 face buttons to stay alive with the casual and hardcore gamers today and also with the developers that want to keep making traditional games.  What they could do to appeal to non gamers is reorganize the face buttons in a manner that doesn't seem demanding.  Make the buttons distinguishable so they are easily memorized.  The R and L buttons can be carried over from the Cube since they are just smooth as butter and give off the best initial reaction (your fingers feel just right on the R and L buttons when you grabbed a Cube controller for the first time)

Modified Z button

The z button on the Cube I believe is probably the worst placed button I've ever seen from Nintendo.  Moving it over to a trigger position is only natural.  Everyone (non gamers) can relate to a trigger since even household appliances have them.  Sprays in the house have triggers under their nozzles and everyone has held a toy gun at one point or another in life lol.

Gyro tech

This almost seems to be a given.  Every time a non gamer tries and plays a game, they sway their hands in the general direction they want to move.  Thus why not include gyro tech to put this swaying motion to some actual use.  Swaying their hands will only feel natural to a non gamer

Squeezable handles

I guess this could be pulled off by including an analog button (similar to the R and L buttons on the cube) in the same shape as the right and left handles of the controller.  All the non gamer would have to do is squeeze the handle to press the button.  Squeezing is a very primitive infantile action that should be right at home with everyone.  Similar to triggers, squeezing is something we are accustomed to and is part of our every day lives.

Heating and Cooling tech

I don't see this happening, it really doesn't serve any purpose (gameplay wise) outside of just helping you get further in the game.  This is something I'd rank up their with rumble features in controls.  It has very few methods it can be used for gameplay but its mostly there for entertainment lol.  If they can include this in their controller very cheap, I can see them doing it, but if it costs them a pretty penny, I don't see it happening.

Trackball

I think this could very well happen. The second analog stick has become nothing more than a means to control a camera in a game or for aiming in first person shooters. A trackball would be a lot better for both of those purposes. A trackball would give you a lot more precision than an analog stick ever could since you can continuously adjust the trackball till you find just the right position you want. Also, for a non gamer, dealing with one analog stick is hard enough, seeing 2 on a controller just makes things that much worse. A trackball is just a ball in their eyes. A ball is something they've grown familiar with throughout their life. A trackball is just more inviting visually IMO. I can only speak for myself but when I first saw a trackball mouse, I immediately just wanted to touch it, spin it around, and play just for the hell of it.

Now if you add all this up, its basically taking everyday things that non gamers are already accustomed too, and applying them to games. I know they'll still be 4 face buttons and R and L buttons but so did the SNES over 10 yrs ago. Nintendo doesn't need to make the next "Bop It"(as some other forum member said lol, forgot who though) to attract non gamers. All they need to do is make a controller that, as they have said "people will just want to touch and feel it" when they see it. Once they get the person making a physical connection with the control, they'll then begin to learn how to play.

This controller theory is something that could help bring in new players while also still providing for the tradition followers.

But do you honestly think that Nintendo would sacrifice their core fanbase for the so far unproven non gamers? Do you think Nintendo will create a controller that will limit their creativity/options or downgrade their franchises like Metriod and Zelda? Just the simple fact that Metriod Prime 3 is being planned for Rev (using the logical assumption that it builds off of the previous 2) should show you that their controller isn't going to sacrifice any functionality. Metriod Prime is one of the most complex console games control wise. If they are going to dumby down the controls for the masses that don't play games, then how are they going to allow us to switch visors and weapons on the fly while still giving us the freedom to run, jump shoot and look every which way?

Nintendo can't abandon their core fanbase because we are the only ones that keep them afloat in the home console front. Nintendo has gone on the record to say that they aren't out to do away with the old type of gaming but that they are just trying to broaden video game's appeal. Nintendo is a big enough company to allocate resources to us hardcore gamers that want our zeldas, metriod etc... and to the non gamers who might be looking for a time killer.  Also, just in case you (Ian) or anyone else counter my previous sentence by saying how these other resources spent on the non gamers could be used to create more epic, full filling, traditional games, you have to keep in mind that games aren't made with just you in mind. There should be a market for every type of gamer, even the non gamers. Who knows, maybe we'll end up liking the time killers made for the non gamers. Maybe the development of these time killers helps spark some new ideas or approaches to our old, traditional games.

I still can't see how people can think Nintendo has spent millions in R&D (the Rev is supposed to have the highest R&D cost of all Nintendo's home consoles), signed ATI and IBM to develop custom chips and moved on up to bigger sized discs (as apposed to the Gcube discs) so they can make simple time consumers akin to minesweeper and whatnot that don't require such high end equipment.

The cube has 7 buttons but the R and L buttons click when pressed in, giving it 2 functions.  So it might have 7 buttons but it has the function of 9.  This method of clickin might not work for some games but I'm just trying to clear that up for you.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Factor 5 jumps ship. Swims over to Sony camp.
« on: July 11, 2005, 02:56:46 PM »
i just remembered something, Ian Sane, you said you don't remember 3rd parties leaving Nintendo during the N64 era like they are doing now.  Well I explained myself in my previos post in regards to why you notice this but thinking back, Squaresoft left Nintendo before the N64 even came out.  Thats even worse that what companies are doing now where they are at least testing out the Gcube waters and seeing if they can meke a profit of it.  Also, you can argue that Squaresoft leaving Nintendo during the N64 era did 100 times more damage to Nintendo than Rare, SK and Factor 5 leaving right now put together.  Squaresoft leaving Nintendo was the straw that broke the camels back, in other words, it started a tidle wave that in the end knocked Nintendo off its high horse and Nintendo has been struggling to find its footing since then.

Again, everyone is asking for WAY TOO MUCH from Nintendo.  Nintendo has the most responcibility of all 3 console manufactures.  It has more systems to support, it has to sustain its own success, keep their fanbase coming back and try to catch a few new ones.  Nintendo's high quality is a double edged sword, as a result of them producing triple A games consistently over the yrs, the people that buy their games only look foward to their own games.  To me it seems like you want Nintendo to be Sony or MS yet still be Nintendo.  You can't have it both ways, if Nintendo were to try and emulate Sony and MS they wouldn't be Nintendo anymore.  This constant complaining is only visible with Nintendo fans.  You never hear Sony fans talking bout what Sony needs to do and this and that.  Why don't we here Sony and MS fans complaining why Sony and MS don't produce in house games of the same quality as Nintendo in a consistent basis?

With each suscesive generation, Nintendo has answered all our complains and what do we do, hit em with more.

N64 didn't have Square, practically no 3rd party support, and cartridges.  Gcube comes out and what do we have? Squaresoft is back at least showing some support, we have better 3rd party support even though its for nothing, and we moved to discs as apposed to cartridges.

Gcube had a weak online structure/support and dwindling 3rd party support in the long run.  Now whats Nintendo's plan for Rev?  They are developing a console with developers needs in mind, they are giving us a free and extensive online community, they are giving us Mario kart, Super Smash Bro, Animal Crossing, a realistic Zelda, eventually I'm sure they'll bring pokemon online.  They consistently answer our complaints but no one ever sees this.  What has Sony and MS done to fix the complaints on their system with each successive generation?  Practically nothing, yet you don't hear a peap from their fans.

Look at the big picture, Nintendo is doing everything it can and more to give us what we want.  Stop looking for more reasons to complain.

The reason you see so many 3rd parties falling off durin the Gcube era as apposed to the n64 era is becuase there was alot more of them supporting Nintendo right out the gates.  The N64 didn't have much right off of release aside from the "dream team".  Its easy not to see many 3rd parties leaving Nintendo during the N64 era becuase there really wasn't any 3rd party support to begin with.

Also, you can piss and moan all you want about Nintendo's 3rd party position but when it all comes down to it, blame us, the consumers for not buying 3rd party games.  Thats why 3rd party is weak on Nintendo's system, becuase we, Nintendo fans, as a majority dont support them.  The consumers are more to blame as is Nintendo.  Nintendo can throw all the money in the world at advertisement and getting exclusive 3rd party games, but for what?  Regardless, the consumer doesn't buy them in the amount that it deserves.  Look at RE4, argueably one of the best games produced this current generation and its selling less than it deserves.  Nintendo is doing their job, we the consumers, aren't for one reason or another.

The fact that Nintendo exists is our benefit.  Its sad that you fail to see that.  Nintendo making money, keeps Nintendo in the game.  To me, thats all that matters cuase I can always go to other consoles to play thier specific games but I can't go there to play Nintendo games.  I can only speak for myself but if Nintendo weren't making games anymore, then I can say that I'll be a less frequent gamer.

Ian, your looking at everything black and white.  Nothing is that clear cut.  Just becuase we don't physically see a gain doesn't mean there isn't one.  For example, what if the selling off of Rare for that large sum of money was what lead to Nintendo giving the green light in funding and then purchasing Retro completely?  I'm more than happy with Retro than Rare at this stage of the game.  SK was a big loss but I'm sure in the long run Nintendo will find another developer.  Same with Factor 5.  We can lose some and we can gain some.  Nintendo found gamefreak (I think they are the ones that make pokemon) and they found Retro, both key to Nintendo.  I'm sure they'll be more in the future.  Just becuase you can't see whats taking place doesn't mean things aren't happening for the better.  Its funny how everyone is always quick to rip Nintendo when companies jump to other platforms but very few people actually talk about how Nintendo has improved third party support compared to the N64 generation.  Capcom has done more this generation than in the last one and we all take it for granted it seems.  We even got Square back onto Nintendo even though it wasn't anything big but the fact we got them back is a start.

Everyone has to remember, Nintendo has to support itself (1 home console, a future home console plus 2 handhelds and a possible future handheld) AND at the same time try and keep third parties happy whereas Sony and MS's primary concern IS 3rd parties alone since they cannot survive without them, they can't rely on themselves to hold them up.  Those are 2 completely different approaches and thus is one of the reasons 3rd parties flock to those other consoles.  They are better appreciated there by Sony and MS plus the consumers.  Sony and MS want them there cuase they NEED them and the publishers don't really have to worry about competing with Nintendo's games, which is what seems to be Nintendo's consumers only consern since thats what they seem to purchase excusively.

I don't know what exactly was changed during Rev developement but you shouldn't take SK and Factor 5s moves to be so much of a negative.  They both are really good companies, but much like Rare back in the days, they produce games in a slower fashion than Nintendo themselves.  They're games come once a year if even.  I know Factor 5 pumped out one of those RS sequals in under a yr but the games are so similar that its more of an extention of one game than actually developing a new game from scratch.

Just look at Squareenix, their president has become more outspoken in regards to the Rev and from what he's said, it seems Squareenix is more than excited bout it.  Squareenix is a very graphic intensive company so the fact that they are excited about the Rev should give you an indication that the system isn't as underpowered as everyone is making it out to be.  What this could mean is either Sony and MS are throwing around money to recieve more support/or take away some of Nintendo's key developers or whatever the Rev actually is, is geared more towards Japanese developers.  If this is true, then it could warrent SK and Factor 5 making their changes and Sqaureenix's new found love for Nintendo.

61
I don't feel like going through the 4 pages to see if the character I'm about to mention has already been brought up but I'd love to see the Dog from Animal Crossing in the new SSB.  He'd be able to fight with his guitar lol.  Tom Nook wouldn't be bad and also the pirate/turtle that brings you over to the island lol.

I posted this over at the Nsider forums and decided to come here and do the same.  I'm sure some of you have already read and/or posted some of these rumors but this should keep the Rev convos flowing lol.

I'm not sure if any of the following has been posted but I just ran into some of these in a few blogs I was looking at.

1. New G5 processors one being a low-power 970FX and the other a dual core 970MP. There is an interesting sentence in the article though

Quote

The PPC and Cell will form the heart of games consoles from Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony over the next 12 months

We all know where the Cell is going so if this quote is to be believed then we can assume the Rev could be using one of these 2 chips or any other PPC chip. Anyways, here's the link to the article
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/07/08/ibm_powerpc/
and.... here's a link to a CNET's article on the chips
http://news.com.com/IBM+details+new..._3-5779894.html

2. A new ON video has appeared. Its real short and is a recording off of a monitor and not an actual direct feed. Looks well done but make of it what you will, I'm no professional lol.

http://src-network.com/on2.wmv

3. at SeriousGamer007's blog, he supposedly has a picture of what the Rev can do graphically in game. Here's the pic he has posted

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/RevolutionRumors/ScienceLabScreen-Shot.jpg

Also of note, that picture was taken from ATI's Crytek promotion. Here's the link to their page

http://www.ati.com/gitg/promotions/crytek/

The page runs a 4 min stream of a demo called "The Project" using the new ATI Radeon® X800 XT and PLATINUM EDITION. It looks real nice from what I can see. What caught my eye though is the main title
Quote

"ATI and Crytek: The future of PC gaming, Hollywood style"
Hollywood is what Nintendo used to describe its graphic chip being developed by ATI right?

4. Also, here's a new blog I ran into from another supposed "insider" lol working for a 3rd party dev who has seen a tech demo of the Rev hardware. Its an entertaining read and I've just brought it up for sh*ts and giggles, help some of you kill some time. He gets into button to button detail of the controller and all its functions and throws around a few rumors he has heard around his office such as the Rev being able to wirelessly send video feeds to your DS which he says will allow you to play NES and SNES games on your DS. Theres more but I'll let you read and decide what to make of it.

Where are you getting this info from?  As far as I know, EA, Squareenix and Sony have nothing to do with each other.  EA supports everyone and their mothers and Squareenix seems to support the market leader.  Sony does not hold any controlling shares in the company anymore so Squareenix is free to do as it pleases.  I'm sure this coming generation we'll see Square start to expand outside of Sony's camp, its only logical.

New Email from the Revolution Engineer
I have recieved a new email from the Revolution Engineer, A.K.A 19D.O.R.Evolution:

19D.O.R.EVOLUTION
----------------------------------------------------------------
this is what i saw in japan:

the controller prototype i've used was a single piece
conventional-shaped one with a rather large plain
rectangular space in the middle of the butterfly design
portion. the rectangle was made of semi-transparent
plastic that at first look resembled polycarbonate but it
has a slightly gummy surface.it had conventional buttons
and stick and a microphone too.just a bad shaped
unfinished prototype assembled only to show us how it
worked.

during the bowling demo the hologram of a little bowling
ball appeared just a two or three centimeter below the
plastic surface and came up a half centimeter above, just
like it was emerging from the water.
then a japanese engineer told me to take aim using the
conventional controls or built-in gyroscopes (two in-line
- left and right side for dual feedback) and to blow on
the ball in order to make it fly into the tv screen. i did
it and the that ball had an acceleration mouvement toward
the big plasma screen, being holographically displayed
above the plain surface until it reached the front edge of
the same, then disappeared from the controller and almost
instantly re-appeared bigger on the tv screen and
...strike.
the acceleration curve of the object was calculated on the
noise level recorded by the microphone a bit like it is on
the nintendo ds, but, i think, in a more sophisticated
way.
obviously it was only a demo controller setup with several
features not yet implemented for example those regarding
tactile control and haptics.
the holographic projector features a very cheap high
resolution lcd holo-display developed in japan by nintendo
with the help of sharp using licensed nasa technology.
several arrays of smd high-bright white leds (gallium
nitride/indium-gallium nitride) under the above-mentioned
very thin display provide holographic projection of 3d
shapes in the air.

think about the ability to visualize items, characters,
and other objects or simply a control panel, and change,
swap, select and other actions by voice commands or by
touching them.

the other interface i saw (but not tested) featured a two
piece controller shaped like guns (only a gyroscope each
one) and i heard that holographic projection could be used
too with it but only via a separated projector box add-on
that was non shown that day.

by the way, i don't know which kind of controller has been
chosen or which features will be included and which not in
the final design, due to marketing reasons. maybe two
interface versions for different continental markets (i.e.
the cheaper one for countries such as india, china and
south-east asia) but this last one is only a personal
speculation.

that's all i can say about.
working there is like watertight compartments.
enough?

KDR I never said I believed in the "leak".  I just posted it to help move along the stagnant Rev threads.  Since there is very little news for the system, any rumor is welcome just for the sake of entertainment and debate.

67
Well, I dont have links, but Nintendo has spent the most in R&D for this upcomming system as apposed to previous ones.  Controllers are always a big thing for Nintendo and I'm sure it resieves the same, or moreso R&D than the system developement itself.  Also, if Nintendo were to go with this dual controll method then I'm sure it'll be able to attach to itself to form one controller.  The rumor/ "leak" that I posted makes mention of this issue for all its worth.

The reason for HD being cut is becuase it isn't that big of an issue to them.  Its the world to Sony and MS who are trying to promote said feature (sony trying to use the ps3 as a trojen horse to push out more HD tvs and blu ray as a standard).  I'm not goin to get into the whole HD debate though as it has its own thread.

Just ran into this on another site.  Supposed updated pics of the Rev and some more info.

and gizmodo has another set of pics of the controller

Sorry bout the huge block of words but I just quoted it as I found it lol.  As for Factor 5, they are not Sony's they just have a contract to do 2 or 3 games for them, ain't sure on the details.  I'm sure they are still free to do other games on other systems if they so choose so.  Silicon Knights is 3rd party so it isn't out of the question but given the first one's lack of sales, I aint sure bout a sequal even though I'll love it lol.

Here's another fresh rumor for you, as usual, its from an unknown source (the poster doesn't want to say).  I ran into this at the G4 forums which took it from the Gamespot forums.

Quote

As for the controller I don’t think it has been finalized but I have seen and programmed for the official concept controller and used it twice. It is very similar to the “nesvolution” one pad for each hand with weighted gyroscopes and haptic feedback. At first glance it seems kind of weird to think about tactically using it to control certain types of games but once you pick it up its actually very simple and easy to use with any game. I know Nintendo is still working on a way to connect the two controllers at the players will, probably through a magnetic lock system. As for the Nintendo On which it WILL NOT be called once it is confirmed will present a panoramic view to represent a full field on vision as we all have in real life and will be in HD believe it or not. It will probably be confirmed when the spec for the Rev. are made public and will be launched a quarter year after Rev. launches. My only gripe is that the On system at launch will retail for the same amount as the actual Rev. system itself. It will not be a gaming machine unto itself but merely an add-on to the Rev. to allow completely immersive experiences.
Stereoscopic 3-D will also be a prevalent part of the interface but coupled with the visor and controllers will allow something NEVER seen before in gaming. The stereoscoping is still being tweaked to turn whatever room your in into a the game environment effectively rendering your room part of the game. Coupled with the visor this could turn you entire home into a nightmarish landscape. The projector alone with only be able to project a limited no. of NPC’s into your environment at any given time depending on the size of the NPC‘s. Take RE4 for example the projector could probably project about 12 ganados at any given time into your environment but only one El Gigante or boss at a time. When the visor is on though it will allow the entire game to be presented in full virtual reality with no sacrifices whatsoever, and with the environment capturing radar it could effectively turn your own home into the game environment. Imagine Resident Evil zombies busting through your doors and coming after you with their blood and body parts being rendered onto your environment in real-time as you fight them. That is an actual possibility of the On visor.
The controller will be capable of everything past controllers were but much more and the customization that you will have at your hands is unprecedented. It will feature haptic feedback illustrating through vibration whatever your on-screen character is doing or feeling this represents mood, heartbeat, nervousness, adrenaline rushes, tension, being shot or hit with something, jumping from a high place, etc… This haptic force feedback will be mapped into buttons and controller itself. Another controller feature is its ability to heat up and cool down illustrating how the environment temperature feels or it you are having to hold on to something that is hot or cold. Coupled with this is the controller will have built-in mic to talk to things or blow on things in the game to move them or cool them down. The mic will also have voice distortion features to work with the dev. Tool or chat online. The other big feature of the controller is its ability to feel depth and reach out and grab the world so to speak. For example instead of just pressing a button to open a door you would point one of the control pad towards the door twist the knob and pull the door open, or just kick it open with another movement. This depth mapping allows all sorts of actions to be preformed much more realistically and true to life for example: swinging a sword, reloading or firing a weapon, picking something up and turning it over, do melee combat with your own two hands…etc.
An example I saw in action was a character was hanging from a ledge MGS style and you would literally have to squeeze the handles to keep from falling and you could also feel the haptic vibration from his heart and the coolness of the ledge. This was a tech demo showing all of the features working together. Of course all this will be left up to the developer but they promise to be extraordinary features. The projector will also have two options: Stereoscopic 3-D or flat panel projection. This allows Rev. to be a portable system as it can project the game on any wall or flat surface. The stand for Rev. will be a recharger of sorts and will have the angle required to be project Stereoscopic 3-D properly. The only reason for the rechargeable battey is for the projection otherwise when you run out of battery life you can just hook it up to a TV or computer monitor.
As to the projector if its on Stereoscopic 3-D and say someone walks into the door of the room your in nothing will happen except the picture might warp a little in that area or fade into a hallway but as soon as the door closes again it should correct itself. But if your on the road or in a car or something I don’t think you will be able to use the stereoscopic 3-D projection because the stand is what gives it the desired angle and I would imagine that it would make the picture or holograms skip or have weird picture flashes as the car moves up and down. You will need a steady non-moving surface for the projector to use stereoscoping properly. As to Bungie I really don’t know whether they are going to sign a contract with Nintendo or not but there was some loose talk from their rep. that it might be a possibility. By the way Microsoft DOES NOT flat out own Bungie, they made Bungie sign a contract to give half creative rights and royalties to Microsoft for a “number of years”, but after those years are over they can opt to make another contract with them or go somewhere else. Now I truly doubt that Halo 3 will be coming to the Rev. since Microsoft would throw a HUGE hissy fit about it but maybe Halo 4 or an original game I hope. Their rep. said that since Microsoft is forcing the development on Halo 3 to match PS3’s launch. They will probably end up releasing a Halo2.5 instead of an actual sequel and that Rev. might see the fully realized Halo 3 a year or so later. But of course nothing is set in stone and it could all change so don’t get your hopes up too high this was just my team talking to a representative from Bungie.

To my knowledge the confirmed and unconfirmed list of games are:

-Mario Kart Revolution = Rev.
-Super Mario 128 = Rev.
- Metroid Prime: Reborn = Rev.
-The Legend of Zelda DS = DS
-The Legend of Kid Icarus = Rev.
-Xenias = Rev.
-Killing Day = Rev.
-Psychopath = Rev.
-Animal Crossing = Rev.
-The Legend of Zelda = Rev.
-Star Wars Rogue Squadron 4 (no title as of yet Q4 2006) = Rev.
-Madden 2007 = Rev., DS
-Eternal Darkness: Insanity Fulfilled = Rev.
-Resident Evil 5 (Q3 2008 ) = Rev.
-Advance Wars: Annihilation = Rev, DS
-Burnout 4 = Rev.
-Flat Out 2 = Rev.
-F.E.A.R.: Everything Objective Foretold = Rev.
-Stalker: Shadow of the Chernobyl = Rev.
-Guts N’ Glory = Rev.
-Umehas Ookieyara = Rev.
-Ichi the Killer (slated for Japan possible U.S. release) = Rev.

These are the games that I know for sure are going to be released at some point on Rev. although it does not mean all of them will be exclusive to the Rev. although many of them will. Many people have thought I lied about this or that but I assure you wait until everything about Rev. and its games are made public and see if I’m not right. The Rogue Squadron game I’m working with now we is focusing on giving the flying combat more hi-res action and depth with great replay value, but also trying to flesh out the on-foot missions that the last game failed on. As for Retro Studios they have two teams which are working on two games right now Metroid Prime: Reborn, and Xenias. I was hoping that Xenias was going to be kept a secret but unfortunately Nintendo let that out of the bag. Needless to say it will no doubt put Rev. in the top spot next-gen. I’m not going to say anything else about it though because I believe some things just shouldn’t be spoiled. Anyway I will keep in touch if you have any other questions please feel free to ask.

P.S. To those who wanted me to sketch out the controller I would love to but I’m just not a good artist and I wouldn’t do it any justice. A concept of the concept photo has already been leaked somewhere it is the “nesvolution” one pad for each hand with weighted gyroscopes, hot and cold sensors, depth-mapping and haptic feedback. Once again that is a VERY early prototype of the finished product and Nintendo is working on a way to connect them at will with a magnetic lock if someone just doesn’t like using them without a two-handed base setup.

Also, a patent was posted over at Nsider.com and, from the pictures, it seems to demonstrate the experience described by this "leak".  I haven't read the patent though since they are so time consuming so I'm sure I'm wrong by the comparison.  The pictures in the patent seem to show a person sitting with 2 controllers in hand and what seams to be objects coming at him from different directions.  Hopefully someone with some time on their hands can give the patent a quick read through and see if they can come up with a general idea of what it means.  Here's the link to the patent.

Also, heres a link to what most are assuming is the leaked pics of the controller that this "leak" mentions.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Famitsu survey regarding next gen
« on: June 13, 2005, 06:46:29 PM »
I bet a bulk of that "no opinion/unknown" 48 percent is from people that are developing for it and are just not making it public till Nintendo decides to give a green line for projects and info.  I find it hard to believe, not a single 3rd party is developing for Rev right now.  Cuase I beleave at least squareenix is, ea is and any other major publisher/developer.

Everyone just let them piss and moan.  This is typical NIntendo fanboy rants.  I am a Nintendo fanboy but I've never been the type to throw a hissy fit over such slight news.  This news has gotten all the closet graphic whores all worked up and out in the open.  They have forgoten that its about the games.  As long as I can play Zelda, Mario, and all of Nintendo's other games, I don't care how its being displayed.  I just want my Nintendo games.  These people are like pain in the ass girlfreinds, they are never satisfied no matter what you do.  Its a lose lose situation to them.

We complained about NIntendo not going online and here we have Nintendo giving us a free online service

We were dieing for them to bring mario kart, animal crossing, and super smash brothers (among other games) online and here we have Nintendo giving that to us.

Nintendo went a step ahead of our expectations and instead of providing just backwards comp with the Gcube, they give it to us for all their previous consoles.

Who knows what else they have up there sleeve but look at what they are giving us now.  More than what we've been asking for in yrs.  Yet we still have all these negative nancies complaining about no HD.  Big f*cking woop.  Go buy your ps3s and xbox 360s then and miss out on future zeldas, marios, metriods and whatever else since you can't have them in the "oh so amazing" high def.

The way I see it, all you people are just looking for reasons to justify your overpriced purchases in the HDtvs.  You already can watch dvds in hi def, you can play ps3 and Xbox 360 games in hi def.  too bad you cant play Rev games in it though.  Tough, you don't get everything you want in life.  Learn to accept it.  Its not a big a deal as you putting it out to be.  At the end of the day, your going to buy a Rev regardless of it having HD or not.  If you don't then I don't consider you to be a true gamer.

Short sighted might be how you label it but I see it as profet oriented.

They can mandate all they want for all I care.  Consumer's are the driving force in the electronics industry.  If people aren't going out and buying said tvs, the FCC is going to have to rework their time frame.  If I'm to believe the FCC, then I'm too expect a huge price drop to take place with HD tvs within a yr or 2.  I don't really see that happening.

HDTV's are niche now but that doesn't mean they will be niche later.  The Rev has to last until 2011.  In 2000 I didn't know anyone who had a DVD player.  Here we are five years later and I only know one person who's not a senior who only has a VCR.  Last year my Mom asked me to find a video for my Grandma for Christmas and I had to run all over town to find a copy.  In the end I had to buy a USED copy from a video store because none of the other stores had any sort of variety for their VHS selection.  In a few years you won't be able to even buy a non-HD compatible TV in stores.

Anyone who is defending this decision needs to ignore the details and look at what Nintendo is really doing here.  They're not providing an option and making a decision for third parties and consumers.  It doesn't matter what it is.  Nintendo has the lowest market share in the console market because they're inflexible and don't provide options.  This decision shows that they STILL haven't learned anything and that they STILL don't get it.  Nintendo's improved some things with the Rev (like going online) but they're just curing symptons of a bigger problem.  In 2011 they'll fix the "no HD" sympton and then make a bunch of other short-sighted decisions that create problems.  Nintendo needs to stop making dumb decisions overall instead of just fixing the individual dumb decisions of the previous gen every time.  Essentially the Cube was what the N64 should have been and now the Rev is what the Cube should have been.

DVD players and HD tvs are totally different beasts.  The movie industry basically forced consumers into the DVD era along with the ps2's help.  DVD players gained so much ground as a result of the playstation making it a standard thus forcing standard dvd players to drop in price to compete (also the fact that the ps2 put many dvd players in homes)  The ps3 and Xbox 360 are in NOW WAY going to help give HD tvs a push.  There is nothing forcing consumers to upgrade.  Standard and cable television are just starting to get their feet wet with HD broadcasts.  Just becuase Sony and MS's games will support HD resolutions doesn't mean that consumers will start to go and buy the displays.  DVD's have supported HD resolutions and that hasn't pushed many to purchase a high end tv.  I can't really comment any more on how fast HD tvs will penetrate the market becuase I'll need to see some research and stats to see its growth.  Also, the USA isn't the world, just becuase HD seems to be gaining (minimal) ground here doesn't mean its doing so hot everywhere else.  Japan and Europe so far are in even worse positions.  By 2011, HD might, and thats a really big MIGHT, be a standard here in the US but not anywhere else.  Also, what developer is going to be mad at Nintendo for this move?  All Nintendo is doing is saving them money which in the end is all that matters to these companies.  Its funny how this announcement has really brought out all the graphic whores from hiding.  One minute, "graphics are good but gameplay is what its about" and the next minute, "no HD for Rev??? OMFG, NIntendo is doomed yet again"  This is the typical song and dance displayed by Nintendo fans.  Everyone gets their panties in a bunch for the slightest things that won't really affect the majority of us besides providing us with possiblely cheaper games but forget that, let me get them 60 dollar games, I want that lol.
