Nintendo Gaming / RE: Screenshot from the new Pokemon GC
« on: December 15, 2004, 10:15:31 AM »
From those pics I don't know how anyone can assume anything by it.  It looks like the same as the rpg mode in Colloseum.  From those pics, how can anyone assume it'll be either a full blown rpg or another rpg mode from a Colloseum sequal?  This game can be taken in a few different directions.  It can be a full blown rpg with colloseum gameplay as a secondary play mode.  It can be another colloseum game where the rpg mode is the secondary play mode.  It can also be just a straight rpg pokemon.  Everyone relax, there isn't enough info to start making claims on how this game will eventually turn out.  I personally think the rpg aspects are going to play a much bigger role this time out in the game.

I am also suprised madden isn't even nominated for best traditional sports game even though I'm more of an espn lover lol.

Like Bill has said, everyone calm down, your making it look like Pokemon Collosseum slept wit your girls or something and now your holding grudges.  Let it go people.  Anyways, about these new pics, they arent as bad as everyone is claiming.  Ive seen alot worse in the past.  Besides, these aren't even from the finished game, we don't know how the game moves or how the affects are in the game.

What if the graphics are low budget in order to allow a huge world to explore or to allow a vast amount of onscreen activitiy to take place.

No one knows how this will play out but I for one am expecting more than just a sequal to collosseum.  I believe the last game was flirting with the idea of an rpg and was used moreso as a testing ground.  It was mentioned that Nintendo is working with one or more big name companies on this pokemon game.  I doubt Nintendo needs outside help to develope another rehash Collosseum game.

Basically Nintendo has upgrade their games (ever so slightly) with each successful sequal.  Right now the question I'm asking myself is how big of an upgrade is Nintendo trying to do with its new Gamecube pokemon game, are they just going to expand on the sidequest rpg mode or make it a full blown rpg.  The fact that Nintendo is working with another company on this game makes me think that something more is being planned.  Anyways, I'll reserve judgement on the graphics when the game is closer to completion and I can see it in video or something.

How hard can it be for Nintendo to provide companies with bigger discs.  I remember readin that 1 Gb was the smallest.  I'm sure its possible for a bigger discs than 256 mb, it aint like its something out of this world lol.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Mock Revolution launch titles
« on: December 06, 2004, 02:37:18 PM »
I have a feeling Squareenix going to bring out something big for revolution.  Nintendo and Squareenix have been getting closer as of late.
They are even colaberating on bringing Squareenix's online games to the DS.  Don't be suprised if Nintendo drops the bomb in E3 in may with info on the revolution launching with a big budget Squareenix game.  I'm still a little suspect on the true FFs coming back to Nintendo (only possible way would be through multiplatform release for now)  but maybe a true chrono trigger sequal.  Given that Square and Enix are one now , they can get the original crew to develope it.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: DS-IGN Controversy
« on: December 06, 2004, 02:10:39 PM »
Seriously no offence to Procession but are you seriously that much of a graphics whore that simpley cuase one system does better graphics its allready the better system?  You can argue that it is the better technically advanced system.

When you break things down though the DS is the clear cut better deal than the PSP.  The DS and its features are only limited to the developers skills.  The PSP features are limited by design.  As I stated above, movie playback is a joke on PSP and shouldn't even be included in this discussion.  Music playback is there but its really nothing to write home about and the PSP as a video game system is severly hindered by its battery consumption problems.

As for price, your comparin a 150 dollar DS with a demo to a 185 dollar system with no game and no memory card (2 essential ingredients for you to get anything out of your PSP, then also not includin a carry case to protect your investment)  So basically, in reality, you are comparing a 150 dollar investment that you can automatically play right off the bat to a roughly 250 dollar investment (including game and memory stick).

I am a fan of video games, I play all the systems and own all of them.  I am a nintendo fanboy at heart but I know when someone is being biased or not.  Some of us Nintendo fanboys are being biased with the DS as you say but some of us have legitimate reasons to why the PSP isn't worth the amount of attention its getting.  The problem alot of us are having is that the DS is gettin so much negative press and the PSP is gettin so much positive press given it hasnt even been released, its main problems have already been mentioned by sony themselves and its lineup is even worse than the DS's.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: DS-IGN Controversy
« on: December 06, 2004, 09:54:41 AM »
I still don't see how IGN can complain about the DS and its launch so much and then look at the PSP with its launch with anticipation and excitement.  The PSP luanch is going to be even weaker than the DS's, its lineup is worse and the system has more problems going for it than the DS.

Movie playback is a joke on the PSP, music playback isn't much when you compare it to whats already out and it gameplay aspect is cut short by weak battery life.  Also, according to the new EGM issue, they did an article on the PSP and DS with pros and cons for each, one of the cons for the PSP was that most of its games had horrible graphics.  So if the graphics of the PSP are its strongpoint, then what good is the system if most of its games look like ass.

In my opinion, the DS is not getting enough credit and the PSP is getting way too much.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Famitsu talks to Miyamoto
« on: November 25, 2004, 12:13:31 PM »
I hope Nintendo have the foresight to jump on this opertunity.  A MMORPG of Pokemon will sell unheard of numbers and will ensure that Pokemon will be around for another 4+ yrs.  They better get that done now before the Pokemon fad ends.  I know its been goin strong for yrs now but everything eventually comes to an end.  For them to release a MMORPG of pokemon when the franchise is on its last legs would be a loss in potential, a big loss in potential sales too.

IMO Nintendo is always looking for new indie developers to support.  After seeing what Pokemon did for them why wouldnt they lol.  I'm sure Nintendo will find another few indie groups that are coming up to fill in for SK and Rare.  Seems like thats how Nintendo works.  They helped support the Pokemon team (forgot their name)  Under Nintendo's guidence is when Rare really began to shine.  Same with SK to a smaller extent.  Now look at Retro, they were built from the ground up, Nintendo bought them and assisted with input on Metriod Prime and look at them now.  Nintendo is the holy grail to indie developers (warrented they have enough skill to provide a return on Nintendo's investment)

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Miyamoto comments on next gamecube pokemon..
« on: November 25, 2004, 09:34:38 AM »
I'm starting to think it could be a true RPG in the same sence that the gameboy games are.    They toyed with the notion in the last gamecube stadium game with its diet RPG section.  Maybe they used that to test the waters and now are jumping in.  I'm sure it'll also connect in one way or another with the next Gameboy Pokemon games, the ones that are supposed to be the true sequals to emerald and whatnot.

What if they release this next gamecube game and the next gameboy game together and have them connect in order to collect all the pokemon.  Instead of having 2 slightly different versions on gameboy (ex red and blue) they release one game on the gameboy and one on gamecube.  The game will have exlcusive pokemons for gamecube and gameboy, in order to collect them all you'll need to trade between the 2.  In that way, they can almost force the huge pokemon fanbase on the gameboy to invest on a gamecube if they havent already.

I would suspect that also but the fact that they are stating strong allies are involved is leading me to think that it has to be something more.  Theres no need for strong allies if it were just more of the usual.

Over at cube-europe.com they have some quotes from an interview with miyamoto in the lastest famitsu.  Visit the site for other interesting info stated by miyamoto.  Basically it states that Nintendo is workin on a new Pokemon for gamecube and that it is in developement with strong allies.

My question is what allies do you think this is and what does this mean for the actual game.  Are we seeing another battles game or is it a true full fledged RPG?

I for one am hoping for Camelot, Square-Enix, or any veteran RPG teams involvement becuase that'll nearly ensure that it'll then be a full fledged RPG of high production values.  What do you people think?

This quote was taken from the latest famitsu magazine, quote is from Miyamoto himself

"Within the next 3 to 4 years, online gaming will be mainstream. Nintendo knows that and will try to move into that direction. "

Looks like Online isn't goin unnoticed.  I think we'll see Online come strong on Nintendo's behalf with the revolution.  What do yous think bout that quote.  By the way, I got that from Cube-europe.com.  They have is other quotes posted there too.  Good stuff.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Mario 64 DS reviews
« on: November 22, 2004, 07:26:12 PM »
I think by the rim that actorj is speakin of is to have a small round indentation on the touch screen, an indentation big enough to fit your thumb in and alow slight movement in every direction.  Like this, you can just place your thumb dead center in the indentation and just move up the edges to simulate an anolog stick.  The problem with the touch screen is that its hard to come up with a mental resting point on the touch screen.  Thats why everyone tends to run their fingers off the screen, since no one is returnin to thier own mental resting point.  I hope I helped in clearing up what actorJ was mentioning.  (Anyways, thats how I interpreted it lol)

It would be a good idea but that would get in the way with other games.  Only way that wouldve been possible is to place that indented round area to the bottom left and right of the touch screen.  Giving it a dual analog setup and help lefties use the feature also.  Anyways, wouldve been a good idea but the touch screen wouldve had to been bigger to allow for such a feature.  Also, dont know if its even technically possible or how expensive such a screeen would be.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: why did nintendo pull a sony on PURPOSE
« on: November 22, 2004, 07:16:48 PM »
Nintendo isn't doing this on purpose and you also have to take into account that the Japanese and US release is about a week or so apart.  No one has ever pulled a worldwide release for a system (as far as I know) so a shortage should be the norm.

As for what Nintendo should do to combat the PSP is release Pokemon in Japan on the same day Sony is set to release its killer ap for the PSP ( whatever it will be cuase I see little at the moment, I guess maybe gran turismo)  Pokemon for the DS will take out any game Sony can pay to have on their PSP hands down.  The only games I can see that''ll put up a decent fight salewise compared to a pokemon DS would be a new final fantasy or dragon quest on the PSP.  I for one believe we'll see final fantasy on the DS before it graces the PSP.

Its way too early to lose faith in SK.  MGS seemed to have been forced onto them as apposed to them actually wanting to do the work.  I'm sure they wouldve rather done something original as aposed to a remake of such an old game (that didnt need remaking to begin with IMO).

Nintendo Gaming / RE:PSP vs DS
« on: November 17, 2004, 10:47:10 AM »
With all this talk about games on portable systems being more of the same, thats true in a sence, but the reason I play portable games is becuase it is an escape.  Portable gaming is my only source for oldschool gaming and little in current generations can provide that for me.

The PSP is threatening to blend the portable and home markets together, blurrin the line between the 2.  I don't want 3D gaming to become the norm in handheld games.  I don't want 2D gaming to die as it did during the PSone and N64 era.  If the PSP were to succeed, I'm sure it'll be the first step in completely killing out oldschool gaming.  No more oldschool shooters, no more 2d sidescrollers (metriods, castlevania, mario, kirby), and no more old school rpgs.  All this becuase developers are going to assume (as they did during 3D gamings proper introduction with mario 64 ) that to keep up with the competition, they have to go 3D.

In my opinion, 3D graphics/gameplay should be perfected in the PC/console industry whereas 2D gaming should be perfected in the portable industry.  I'd love to see games like Vuitiful Joe become the norm in handhelds.

General Chat / Spike TV's Video Game Awards
« on: November 16, 2004, 06:37:48 PM »

I was just over at Gamespot right now looking for something new to read and ran across some info on the nominees. Here's the link http://www.gamespot.com/news/2004/1...ws_6113356.html
I can not believe my eyes on the total lack of Nintendo related software. All I managed to see was the Nintendo DS for Best New Technology, Donkey Konga for Most Addictive Game (viewer's choice) and 3 gameboy advance game for Best Handheld (Game I would guess).

I'll like to ask everyone what they think of the lists and where do you think they went wrong. I for one have the following 2 problems with the list

For 1. They have games on that list that haven't even been released (Metal Gear Solid 3)

and 2. Metriod Prime 2 was no where to be mentioned. I believe it should've been nominated for Best Graphics with Halo 2 being taken off the list and Best First Person Action with Doom 3 taken off that list. Halo 2's graphics aren't the best Ive seen, the textures are nice but the geometric structure of the land at times was basic taking design structure back to the days of turok. This was done I'm assuming to keep the framerate high given the open feel of some of the stages. As for Doom 3, it was a good game but there was more graphics than anything else.

I see this so called Video Game Awards show as a direct depiction of how mainstream the video game industry has become. Spike TV now resembles the MTV of video games.

FPS will be the deciding factor with the DS vs PSP.  The battle for the mainstream will be won with these games.  The DS seems to be a FPSers dream.  The controls that Ive seen on video and have read about for metriod hunter (using the thumb strap) is as close as we'll ever get to emulating the accuracy and precision in pc FPSers.

The mainstream love FPSers and the pc players too.  PC FPS fans are as diehard as they come, borderlining on it bein a sickness lol, forming clans and practicing daily.  How are they goin to pass up on trully portable fraggfests.  All that is needed is a well made, highly polished and playable FPS for the DS to help break the mold (much like halo did with its release for xbox, halo was never groundbreakin IMO but it was just a trully well developed , responsive game)

Nintendo Gaming / RE:PSP vs DS
« on: October 29, 2004, 11:29:50 AM »
People, remember the 185 is not including a memory stick and a game.  Without either of those two additions you can't use the psp.  Since whoever buys a psp will no doubt have to get themselves a memory stick and a game, assume that the spending price for the psp inittially will be 250 not including tax.  Once everyone starts to have their psp die out within that day, they are going to want to buy the extra battery pack.  Then when they mess up and drop their psp, they'll want the carrying case.  250 to 300 dollars is what any serious consumer should be expecting to pay when they get their psp.

The ds is 150 with a demo included and no memory stick or extra battery packs needed.  A carrying case would be nice to get but it aint as serious an issue as it is with the psp.

I doubt the psp will sell well in the long run given how much money has to be spent to get some enjoyment out of it.  Prospective buyers will see that 250 in their hands and start to wonder why they dont just go and get a gamecube with a handfull of games or an xbox with halo 2.

Has everyone read the article in gamespot with Ken whatever his name is from Sony.  He states that the battery life is dependent on the software.  So puzzle games will drain less battery power than ridge racer.  He also states that wifi being on affects battery life.  Its already been stated that the alledged battery life of 4-6 is having wifi off, light dimmed as much as possible and using headphones.  Imagine when a Final Fantasy game comes out sucking up energy with all its cinematics and graphics.  Your in the middle of some long Cinema or a summon spell and your battery starts to die, so you hurry to get out that fight so you can run over to a save spot just to end up getting caught into another random fight and halfway through that your battery died.  In the end your'll left frustrated given you lost your save and waiting on your charger to charge your psp so you can pick up where you left off.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Animal Crossing DS NEW PICs & Info
« on: October 29, 2004, 08:33:28 AM »
thanks for the link, it does seem to be a toolbox and I wonder how many tools will be in the game now if they are in fact adding a tool box.  I doubt they'll create that just for the shovel, axe, bug net and fishing pole.
Also, I just noticed this.  Look at the screen on the right, where the 2 girls are, you can see the sky in the back.  I'm starting to think that instead of being in acres, the world will rotate much like tetris spheres did on the n64.  As you walk, the world as a sphere will rotate and you'll start to see any oncoming houses or hills in the horrizon.  What do you people think?

yeah, portable gaming should forever stay 2d or psuado 3d with 2d play mechanics.  Portable gaming is our only source for new old school gaming.  If PSP succeeds and brings in 3d gaming as a standard to portable gaming, then they'll be nothing to differentiate portable gaming.  We'll see slimmed down versions of console games being ported to the portable systems.  2d sidescrollers, puzzles, shooters, old school rpgs will all die out in a matter of yrs.  That my freinds will suck BIG balls.  Thats a whole nother topic there though lol.

I was reading at another forum and they are saying their are 7 or so icons at the top of the menu screen in Animal Crossing.  Also, if you look at the menu screen, top right corner, under the last icon, doesnt that strange picture look like luggage or a suit case.  Could that be for the wireless travels?  Imagine you can fill it with items to take to another town in order not waste much menu space, that'll be crazy lol

Yeah, those kirby shots look rediculous.  The DS has some amazing 2d graphics and I can't wait to see what Konami and nintedo will do with 2d castlevania and metriod games.  Also, this new Animal Crossing is significant in other ways.  You can't help but read into all this and think about where  Pokemon or Secret of Mana can be taken gameplay wise now.

EDIT: thanks for the effort but its asking me for a password to see the pic.
