TalkBack / RE: New Soul Calibur for Wii
« on: May 09, 2007, 07:22:23 AM »
I'm staying positive, the art direction of the soul series has always been underappreciated.
And Midway's failures shouldn't affect my enthusiasm...though it still does.

I've never had that issue, and I have an sd card I leave in the wii all the time, as well as the connect24 set to on.

The funny thing about nostalgia is you probably already own the game, and are hesitant to buy it.
But if you never played it, it may not sound appealing, or it may not be enjoyable to play.
For me, the only title that is awesome that I don't own is Gunstar Heroes.

I would like to see rpgs I never got a chance to play, neogeo titles that were too expensive and games that never made it to the us but should have.

Nintendo doesn't need to space titles out, they have probably 100 solid games from the nes, snes and 64 era. Not to mention the non-nintendo consoles, games that were never localized or even pc games. I don't think nintendo is going to run out of great stuff if they release chronotrigger next week.
If anything, the slow pace means possibly never seeing the release of games that deserve a chance to shine again.

The EV channel could be usefull if wii users mobilized and decided enmasse to submit the same "question"

if you have 10,000 people all asking the channel "If you must use friend codes, let it be once and not per game" "get some online high scoreboards" or "put more rpgs on the VC" Nintendo might pay a bit  more attention

32
For me, the problem isn't friend codes, but what friend codes stand for, and that is nintendo's resistance to online gaming. The online gaming system they have proposed seems far less robust than Live. If there must be friend codes, I would like one friend code per system, not per game. I just do not see online play getting as much attention and support from nintendo as it should. This might have been the right strategy for the gamecube (maybe not), but it will be the wrong strategy now, and this atttitude/confusion no doubt affects 3rd party publishers.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Wii to feature same online structure as the DS
« on: March 15, 2007, 07:08:49 AM »
This is bad, as in, we're-sticking-with-cartridges-this-generation bad.
This attitude is the wrong stance to take, and I can't help but feel that VC games will lack online features because of this viewpoint. Online play, high score tables, exhibition- all shackled by friend codes.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: BREAKING NEWS! VOTING CHANNEL?!?
« on: March 05, 2007, 04:08:18 AM »
Have people been using this as an easy way to send a message to nintendo?
Everyday my "poll" isn't a question with answers, but rather three separate statements, something like do more to encourage 3rd party vc content, get online play and scoreboards, or translate unreleased rpgs. I dont even phrase it as a question.
The stats and actual polls are nice, but I think this channel has more use as a feedback channel.

TalkBack / RE: Sega Reveals New Golden Compass Info
« on: February 28, 2007, 08:39:59 AM »
I'm interested in how the Wii version turns out.
His Dark Materials is quite the enjoyable series. I think the first book can get away without religion or god. I mean, they are simply institutions, what they stand for is more spiritual and mystical without being religious.
The second and third books would be quite a change if they went in that direction.
I would rather see Golden compass as a videogame property independent of a movie. The world is very well realized and there are tons of side stories the books gloss over that would be great to play. (although there are some great scenes in the books that would be a blast to play as well).

I would like Wii Sports released via VC, it would be nice to always have it available without swapping discs.

I'd pay a couple dollar premium for a localization of a game.
$10 for Tales of Phantasia is no problem. Even Terranigma, ye of little translations, I would pay for.

I'm off to shoot Nin a mesage about this (via Everybody votes)

I didn't see this coming at all. But the write your own polls is great, my first question was "Do you want to see more games have full online play?"
Answers, "Hell, yes!" and "What he said"
Great chance to tell nintendo what I want.

mario 64 vc ended up being something like 10 mbs. Larger than the rom, which is about 8.
Neogeo roms are similarly sized in the 10meg region, though some tip the scale much, much larger.
Roms may not be a highly accurate measure for how large games will be (at least, I haven't seen anyone doing a filesize comparison for all vc titles vs. roms), but most neogeo games should be sized similar to the 64 titles.

One of the disappoints, for me, in having a slow release plan for the VC, is it limits the chances of getting VC games with scoreboards or online play added later. It also hurts the chances of localizing games that never were released in english or in the US (all those sweet rpgs, for instance).
At the current pace, and with the slate of games seen so far, both online-additions and never released games are less and less llikely of being played. For me, the promise of the VC is not in repurchasing games I already played- which may be nice. But rather to play those games I never played because they are now expensive on the secondhand market, or because my system (ntsc) never saw their release.

I'd like two paths: every nes, snes, genesis and n64 rpg ever released.
Being able to play my favorite games either against online opponents or being able to upload my high schores and beat times in a achievement type system.

Getting 1 VC does not signal this will not happen, it just seems like a warning that nintendo is not as interested in these developments as I am.

every snes rpg, including those which were not (but have since been) localized
Let the VC present stuff to me that never existed in the US market, or which I would be spending $40+ tracking down on Ebay.
at $6 those would be worth buying

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Prediction: iTunes Wii Channel
« on: January 11, 2007, 03:38:25 AM »
the wii doesn't need itunes, just a music channel where you can play music directly off the sd card (i'd rather it be build from the ground up to take advantadge of the control)
and it would be awesome if the usb ports could access any external harddrive or mp3 player, just by plugging it in
itunes/apple is too limiting in scope, let the wii play with everybody

I wonder if 6 million by march will be enough to stem demand or if we are looking at a few more months before the system is widely available.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Wiimote battery life?
« on: January 09, 2007, 07:41:53 AM »
the panasonic industrial strength batteries that come with the wiimote lasted 20-30 hours
During one failure, I was playing rayman rabbid, the game paused and something came up saying the player was disconnected
battery life depends on the battery, some pretty good rechargeables that pay for themselves to take a look at are hybrio

I'm only interested in purchasing games off the vc"
1- I never played and are expensive to buy (gunstar heroes)
2- rpgs (every 16bit era title)
3- Titleswith added value such as have online multiplayer, scoreboards or localizations (tales of phantasia)
