Nintendo Gaming / RE: Current WWII Shooters Are Unethical

Overrated perhaps, but I found the movie overall painful to watch and never wanted to see it ever again.

I'd still be willing to give the game a rent, but yeah, my initial reaction was less than positive.

While it's never possible to recreate something like war via fiction, I know that Saving Private Ryan did one thing right which games could stand to learn from: it made watching the movie a painful experience. It literally wasn't entertainment so much as it was agony. Is there anyone who honestly watches SPR again and again? I watched it once and never wanted to watch it again.

A proper war game should be the same way: it should make the player dislike the game in the same fashion survival horrors do, making the playthrough feel more like a hardship which you'll be proud of saying you made it through than a game with a brief single player campaign filled with little story and transient characters which you feel no connection to, and when they die, you should actually care.

If I ever had the chance to make a war game, I'd aim for exactly this, not only because I think it would put people closer to the understanding of what it was like but because it would shame some of the other devs who churn these things out like sports sequels.

You may not be able to ever get people to fully "understand" war, but you can come damn close by getting them to come away with the impression that war is, if nothing else, terrible beyond imagination and should be avoided at all costs.

Been playing it co-op and I'm enjoying it so far.

I'd assume that the operations will be designed around either single player or co-op depending on which option you choose, which probably means more stuff to "fix" when you have a 2nd player.

It must be too long since people have played Melee because Melee already had this feature under tournament mode called "Winner/Loser Out".

The only addition (and a welcome one at that) is the "I gotta drop one!" option which sends you to the end of the queue.

No, it was a commercial with some of the characters themselves rapping.

You should eat Sakurai's brain, then YOU become the director of the next SSB game.

At least, I think that's how it works...

So, anyone have TC2 yet?

I just got it in through Gamefly and I'll have some impressions tonight.

I once saw a commercial for PaRappa and it irritated me so much that I could have punched a sleeping kitten out of agitation.

Other than that, I have no opinion on the game or the situation.

I'll do it for FREE!

No offense, Pap, but you're 6' or so.

They'd see you on a crowded Japanese street from miles away.

I don't every day, not anymore.

Yeah, basically it's a "pokebarrel", which they're coincidentally scraping the bottom of for these updates.

We're going on, what, 4 weeks with no character update? If they don't at least reveal C.Falcon soon, LuigiDude will die of anticipation and we'll have to pool our money to hire an assassin to avenge his death.

1113
Sigh...

You know, I had pondered quoting the "Yawwwwn" quote every time a crap update shows up but I don't want to be a royal bastard.

1114
Mine did, but I took it back and they replaced it for free.

1115
How old is it?

If you bought it less than a year ago, it's still under warranty and they have to fix it at any Apple store.

1116
I badly want to see the roster, only so I can get the potential disappointment out of the way early.

It's like the revelation of the Wii name: I want to get it over with so I can stop being disappointed early. Either I'll like the secret roster or I'll hate it, but I'd rather know now than risk unlocking it on launch day and being insanely disappointed right then and there.

Also, the president in the 2nd level looks JUST like Harrison Ford, which is appropriate as it takes place on Air Force One.

I hope this is the case.

Also, I THOUGHT I remembered hearing earlier that Sakurai planned to release all of the secret character info before the game was released.

Here's hoping the good updates arrive soon.

1119
On a side note, did anyone else notice that Dedede seems to be stuck in place while performing his final smash? I just realized that, as before I assumed he could call them in and then continue fighting like Pit does.

I'm hopeful, but it doesn't sound like this is the case.

It's not THAT big of a deal. It's just that I was looking forward to going out into the "wild" and battling random players. I would be ok with players dropping but I'd rather not pointlessly fight bots.

Maybe you can still inflate your win/loss record off of bots, and maybe you get coins or prizes or something for winning online.

I just hope that the matching making will be ok.

I understand what you mean, but when I don't have friends to play against, I want to be honing my skills and thinking, calculating opponents. I'd rather they drop and I jump back into the queue faster than have to notice that they're behaving just like bots.

1122
Doesn't work in friend games, sorry.

I'm not even going to suggest I'm that good, though. I'm the best player in my circle, but that doesn't mean anything at all since all it really means is that I suck the least.

1123
It's no worry: we ALL got owned by the repeat friend codes bit.

As for the internet, it does take a bit of time to reconnect, but I still suspect we'd have a lot of droppers kicking around.

It's going to suck to be a mid-level player who doesn't drop: losing to better players while lesser players always drop on you.

I assume there will be some kind of penalty for dropping, but we'll have to wait and see. I'm pretty sure Sakurai said there would be no ranking system, but I'm not sure how it handles individual accounts.

Being able to turn it off would be the best of both worlds, just turning on an option which ends the game if there are no human opponents left would solve any issues.

I can't. SSBB uses its own friend codes and not the Wii's.

And you sound like you think you are the best player ever and nobody would ever want to finish a game with you.  I doubt that either is true.

EDIT: Before you say it, I bet you could beat me in SSB.  I know I would not leave the game tho.

My skill doesn't even enter into it. I'm more paranoid about people having fun f*cking with other players.

I acknowledge that my views upon this are stilted, but not without reason. Having played various MMOs for a few years, I've known perfectly well that people will do anything they can to cause other people hassle in online games, known as "griefing".

There are three scenarios here:

1. Disconnects are tracked by Wii, meaning that players with too many disconnects will be excluded from random games.

2. Disconnects are tracked by Mii, meaning that players can make new Miis and continue to mess with people all they want.

3. Disconnects aren't tracked at all, meaning that it'll be a hassle when players drop but you can drop yourself without any worry.

#2 concerns me the most, as that means griefers will stick you with a bot just to piss you off and if you want to keep your drop record clean, you'll have to stay to fight it.

As for online skill, I hope I get my ass kicked around. It'll probably dishearten me at first, but after that I'll realize it just means I have much to learn in order to improve.

1125
Can anyone confirm if the game tracks your online disconnects?
