Some of you might consider this a victory.

Was anything changed in the last 30 days or so?

Nintendo Gaming / Wii went back up...
« on: June 04, 2007, 08:46:48 AM »
Check ebay and type in Wii: they're selling for ~$350 with another $35 shipping right now. What the HELL?!

I feel like an idiot for selling three I had recently and only getting $310 with $20 shipping because I was afraid they'd become plentiful.

Is there any reason Wiis would have shot up in demand yet again?

Nintendo Gaming / Wii's wifi antenna sucks
« on: May 24, 2007, 08:16:14 AM »
I just bought the USB adapter because I was sick and tired of the internet working off and on.

The Wii is sitting right next to a wireless relay point which connects it to network channel 1. I checked and ensured (via wireless stumbler) that it's the ONLY wifi network on that channel, and yet the damn thing still loses internet connectivity at random, yet my laptop, my friend's laptops and other wireless devices (like the relay point which is connected wirelessly to ANOTHER point) have no problem connecting. The irony is that I'm using the USB ethernet adapter to connect the Wii to the wireless relay router which is 2 feet away.

Anyone else had the issue of the Wii sometimes just not connecting wirelessly to the internet? I've ALWAYS had this problem, with mine and the one at my parents' house so it ain't just my location.

General Chat / Jack Thompson is a terrorist
« on: May 22, 2007, 07:43:02 AM »
Although his method is indirect, JT is still very much a textbook terrorist.

Terrorists use the fear of violence as a means to manipulate people into doing their bidding.

JT uses the fear of violence to forward his personal agenda.

What's the difference?

JT is using the same fear of violence that terrorists use, only that he isn't personally claiming that he will perpetrate this violence. In the end, the effect is the same: people are seeded with fear in the hopes that they can be manipulated by the seeder.

Again, how is he NOT a terrorist?

This is probably the ONLY FPS which can get me to return to my keyboard and mouse ways right now.

I played Unreal Fortress back in the day (TF mod for UT) and I loved playing as the Saboteur (spy).

Anyone else going to look into this when it comes out?

General Chat / Bought-and-paid-for-Journalism...
« on: April 25, 2007, 05:55:31 PM »
An interesting read

Some PR people have taken game journalists to strip clubs and on some occasions, purchased prostitutes for them.

VERY FEW of the game "journalists" in the industry have journalism backgrounds and practically none of them have any ethics when it comes to their jobs and serving the reader's interest. They all say they do, but their actions are different. When Ubisoft holds a PR event in Hawaii and allows the staff of IGN to invite their wives and/or girlfriends, the end reader never gets to hear about that. And it's not on IGN's dime at all.

All I can say is "wow".

Nintendo Gaming / Hi, I'm SB, and I'm a Bust-a-Move wh*re...
« on: April 19, 2007, 08:50:53 AM »
I am. I know it. At least I can admit I have a problem.

But seriously, the lengths I've gone through to get my mitts on a good multiplayer iteration of this game include asking a friend to send me a copy from CALIFORNIA since they didn't release it here in NH and then IMPORTING A COPY from Japan, only to discover that the multiplayer was just a time race to see who could finish their puzzle first. Bleck.

So yes, I just called and had them hold a copy of BaM Bash (Wii version) for me at Gamestop. Why? Refer to the title of this thread.

Though, to my credit, this will be the first 8 player game for the Wii so I can at least try to pass THAT off as my reason for buying it, right?

Didn't think so...

Nintendo Gaming / Prediction: RE5 will be on the Wii
« on: April 15, 2007, 06:46:04 PM »
Check IGN, check Gamespot: both of them list the last RE5 media shown to, in fact, be the ONLY RE media shown: at the Sept TGS of 2005, a time before the infamous "$599 US Dollars!" Sony press release.

Flash forward to present time: Capcom's new gameshow showed plenty of RE love for the Wii and the Wii alone, but there was no mention of RE5 at all.

While I wouldn't be surprised if it was on all three consoles, I have a growing level of confidence that it will be on the Wii. I'm guessing that Capcom is testing the Wii Waters before they dive in, but the fact that we've seen nothing for nearly TWO YEARS says to me that it's not their top priority right now.

So, file this as a prediction. We'll see how it turns out...

Nintendo Gaming / Forgive me father, for I have...
« on: April 07, 2007, 07:38:58 PM »
...deleted 75% of my Miis.

I had to do it. I had 92 of them, most were fictional, and for some GODFORSAKEN reason, Wii Sports places the freshly made Miis at the very end of the list.

This means that every time I show the Wii (and of course sports) to someone new, they have to cycle through 5-6 pages of Miis before they find the one they just made. When we're talking about a person who has just picked up the Wiimote for the first time and is still wrapping their head around the concept of the pointer, getting them to click that right arrow 5-6 times without accidentally missing is asking a great deal of them, and when they miss and select the wrong Mii and need to start over, it spoils the experience for them.

Yeah, I could have them set their Mii to a favorite, except that I already have 10 favorites.

Anyone else run into this problem? Of all things, I have no idea why Nintendo didn't make the most recently made Mii appear FIRST in the list for Wii Sports. Odds are, that Mii was created with the intention of playing Wii Sports so why doesn't it appear first in the list, dammit?

So I deleted every Mii who didn't belong to a person who would visit me IRL and I'm down to 24 (I even deleted Pap's family, but they live on his Wii now anyway).

I just have to think that it's worth it to be able to prove the concept of the Wii to people that much more quickly. Some Miis died so that many others could one day be born.

Nintendo Gaming / Drought, drought...FLOOD!
« on: March 26, 2007, 04:54:07 AM »
What the hell happened? We went from Feb. having Sonic: SR, Blur and Wii Play and little else to...

March
16th Tiger Woods
19th TMNT
21st Blazing Angels
21st Godfather
21st Kororinpa
21st Cooking Mama
28th MoH: Vanguard

I went from having nothing to play to far too much to play. I'm going through Godfather right now, even though I have TMNT and Kororinpa rented and I also want to play through MoH, Blazing Angels and give Mama a try as well.

April is pretty quiet (yes, that is sarcasm), except for PoP on the 5th, Super Paper Mario on the 11th and Bust-A-Move on the 19th.

Anyone who insists that the GC had equivalent 3rd party support is on crack. There was NEVER a time in the GC's life where I felt pressured to finish games quickly because I had so many others to get through. The closest to that was when I bought Pikmin and SSBM at the same time, but this? All of these games are at least worth a rent and Godfather (which I bought) has already paid for itself in entertainment value.

Anyone else experiencing the game "backup" issue right now? I can't even look at my DS...

Nintendo Gaming / Medal of Honor looks purdy...
« on: February 22, 2007, 07:37:56 AM »
And it's made by EA!

I recall we had a bevy of b*tches b*cthing up a b*tch storm about how the Wii was doomed to suffer horrible ports with shoddy graphics forever (even though EVERY console gets shoddy looking ports at the start of its life so it's nothing out of the ordinary...).

But Medal of Honor: Vanguard is only out on the PS2 and is coming for the Wii and yet, as you can see, the graphics (esp. lighting effects) look quite nice. If even a port-monger like EA is willing to actually put some effort into these games, then I think it's safe to say that b*tchfest 2007 can officially end.

God willing, Ubisoft will get the hint, especially since they're trying to beat EA.

Internesting!

I was right: 8 player is all on one screen with 4 wiimotes and 4 cube controllers (or maybe 4 nunchucks?).

In any case, this is the first 8 player game for the Wii.

Wonder if it'll be the last...

Nintendo Gaming / 3rd Revision Wiimote Wrist Strap: CONFIRMED!
« on: February 03, 2007, 03:43:11 PM »
I recently purchased three addiitonal Wiis for friends who needed them and, of course, registered them with Nintendo for the new straps.

However, what I got back was unexpected:

That's right: revision 3 of the Wiimote strap.

Notice the rounded head instead of the Wii shape like on the first two? Also, the choker point not only has a small raised grip on it but it is IMMENSELY tighter than the original two. If you always have the problem where your strap loosens during play, believe me when I say that this sucker won't be slipping anytime soon.

From the sounds of it, Nintendo was trying to produce these fast enough to get them out the door and as such resulted in a different factory line developing them.

It's a shame they don't carry the Wii look or logo because the choker actually does its job by keeping the strap tight, unlike versions 1 and 2 which the choker just slides away, allowing the strap to loosen.

Nintendo Gaming / The best DDR hard pad...
« on: February 03, 2007, 07:05:58 AM »
DDR is Wii-bound, and if you're going to REALLY get into the game, consider a Cobalt Flux.

I own one and it's easily the best pad in the industry. It's lasted for roughly two years now and I haven't even cleaned it. Soft pads will die in a matter of a month with regular use and at $25 a pop, you're better off shelling out the $300 and getting a pad which will last AND allow you to improve all the way up to 10 footers, if necessary.

The one downside is that they don't yet have the control box to connect it to a GC port yet. I've emailed them about it, as well as included a link to the article about DDR coming to the Wii, asking if they intend to make one. If other people want to pester them about it, that would be great. Maybe we could get them to build a GC version next.

There's a plethora of varying pads to be found here, but speaking as a guy who has tried other hard pad brands in the past, save yourself the time and go for a CFlux.

Nintendo Gaming / Massive Sunday Wiilaunch...
« on: January 19, 2007, 06:26:57 AM »
I've heard from many sources at this point that Sunday will be a massive "Wiilaunch", with Best Buy, Target, Gamestop and likely many others hoarding Wii supplies to sell them Sunday morning.

iTrackr confirms that all my local Targets and Gamestops show as having scanned Wiis in, yet none of the employees at these stores will admit that they have Wiis for sale, meaning they've been told to shut up for the Sunday Wiilaunch.

Not sure if anyone here is still trying to acquire a Wii, but this might be your last chance for a while to acquire one, bundle-free.

Nintendo Gaming / Splinter Cell: Double Agent...
« on: January 10, 2007, 06:34:43 PM »
Haven't played much of the single player, but the multiplayer is a blast. You team up to do various moves, like standing on each other's shoulders to reach a camera, the "human ladder" or flinging your buddy across a chasm. Then there's capturing a guard and having the other player "persuade" him to talk.

Also, I've heard endless b*tching about the controls in this game from reviewers, but out of all the games I've played in which the Wii controls were shoehorned in (Zelda included), this one makes it the least obvious. All of the motions feel very smooth and natural and the aiming with the Wiimote is, again, a far better alternative to an analogue stick.

Honestly, I got this through gamefly expecting a total sh*tfest but I've been pleasantly surprised about the game. Anyone else tried this yet? I think it's worth a rent for the multiplayer alone.
