General Gaming / RE: Rare's New Xbox360 game revealed!!
« on: March 15, 2006, 07:45:58 AM »
Once again Rare is showing the world that Nintendo was completely justified and right to get rid of them.

This game although graphically appealing, just looks so BLAH.

Rare has completely lost its touch...perhaps it never had its touch and Nintendo's assistance is really what made the older games great.

TalkBack / RE: Miyamoto Confirms Revolution Control for Zelda
« on: March 15, 2006, 07:43:21 AM »
Zelda having Revolution controls is good Gamecube and good for the Revolution.

For one, it is still on the Gamecube which will help support the system which could have used this game a long time go.  But it also helps because it is a Gamecube game people will want to play on the Revolution for the new functions, and as such it helps remind gamers hey I can play Gamecube games on this system.  In doing so newcomers to the Revolution may pick up older Gamecube games they heard about but didn't ever play or buy.

This helps the Revolution as well because now it technically has a new launch title in the form of Zelda...a series that is one of the most popular and beloved franchises ever.

Nintendo is doing something very smart here.

What is really funny about this is we had semi-confirmation about this along time ago.

Remember the after the second delay of the game it was stated one of the reasons for the delay was because they got the green light to add new gameplay elements that was being reserved for the next Zelda game.

Well, what would be reserved for the next Zelda game except for perhaps Revolution controls.  For the most part Zelda games have a very simple game concept, design and themes...so I don't see what could have been so special that it left out for the Revolution except controller support.

Now I have a decision to make though.  Do I play the game first on the Cube and experience traditional Zelda or do I play it first on the Revolution and finally experience a new truly unique Zelda game experience.

I think I am going to wait for the Revolution to play this game now.

General Gaming / RE: PS3 Backwards compatibility: Worst of both worlds
« on: March 14, 2006, 11:36:25 AM »
I read those Rumors, and I don't think they have anything to do with Backward compatibility.  More like they will release their old IP properties from NES, SNES, Genesis era on the PS3.

Sony may also try to buy other properties on their download service.  Really to me it sounds more like Microsofts's Live Arcade instead of the virtual system.

Personally I don't see this as a threat at all.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Mario Revolution
« on: March 10, 2006, 05:53:55 AM »
The Bowser Levels are EXACTLY what I want in Mario Revolution, except with more enemies, and variety. Two other linear levels that were great are Tick Tock Clock, and Rainbow Road (Or whatever it was called.)

Those were levels that felt more like traditional Mario games.  The other levels may have had more playfulness to them, but didn't have the intensity of a Mario platform level.

I also want Mario Revolution to move to a more abstract artstyle.  Yoshi's Island to me is the best visually designed game to date.  It beats out all the 2D games of yesterday, and the 3D games of today.  I want something abstract and stunning to look at while I play.  It doesn't have to be that crayola style graphics, but I want it to be different.

Finally, I really want the Koopa Kids, Bowser, and Mushroom Kingdom back in traditional fashion.  This is needed to create the whimsical feel that breathed energy and life into the Mario experience.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Best system launch ever?!
« on: March 09, 2006, 05:22:09 AM »
The star system is just a means to give Mario a direct objective for a level.  As long as collecting the stars are not about collecting stars, but are a means to a puzzle, or game experience then it is ok.

However, it seems most 3D platformers are using this means of level development...so I would really like to see Nintendo attempt something new.

The levels need to have definate direct objectives for those that need that to play, but open ended enough to have a little virtual playground.

The virtual playground aspects have been important to 3D games, because it is something 2D games have never really been able to achieve, however, these games have to designed carefully to actually include fun things to do...instead of just stuff.

Whoever was talking about the next Mario living up to the original Mario series is on to something.

Mario 64 was a great game, and really showed how a Mario platformer could be done in 3D.  However, it didn't feel like it was in the mushroom kingdom.  Actually Mario Sunshine felt more like the Mushroom Kingdom to me, but that is only because those crazy bonus levels were so intense.

I really hope the next Mario (Mario Revolution) captures the zany, playfullness of the original series.  Mario Brothers have always had unique and fun characters to beat, and that was really lacking in Sunshine and Mario 64.

The next in the series needs to go back to its roots, and incorporate good old fashioned enemy dodging for its platforming elements.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Best system launch ever?!

Actually I think aiming on a PC is much more difficult than on console.  Sure you can move quicker around the world, but trying to precision aim in a fast FPS becomes very difficult and headache inducing when you are chasing a moving character about.  I think this is the reason 1st person shooters are still for the hardcore.  First, the orientation to play can be painful, the controls and all are difficult to master, and finally you have to play online against people far more dedicated than you to play verse mode...it becomes redundant.

The Nintendo Revolution might be the best controller for FPS ever.  You can literally treat aiming like you are using a light gun, and when you get to the edges of the screen is when the screen starts to move with the character.

First Person Shooters on the Revolution COULD practically be a completely different genre with that kind of advancement.  More like playing that Resident Evil light gun game, then a traditional FPS.

This will give games like Metroid Prime more freedom to create intense bosses that require precision aiming to hit weaknesses, and will open up the game to greater puzzles and gameplay in the end.

I believe that Metroid Prime 3 will be the defining FPS of the next generation, and then I predict a whole lot of clones to pop up on the Revolution to just copy the control style.

Nobody has commented on whether or not Metroid Prime 3 will be launch or not.  The reason it is speculated is because we already know it is in development, the Metroid Prime 2 revolution demo shown really rocked, and it is one of the few games we know about that has had long development time on the Revolution.

We believe Mario will be launched because the President of Nintendo commented on this fact.  He personally asked Miyamoto to make Mario a priority for launch.  You don't take a directive from your company President very lightly.  This game is being pushed for launch in a big way.

Finally, Super Smash Brothers Melee is also being pushed for launch.  Two of these games we know Nintendo desperately wants to get out at launch.

Nintendo probably feels Metroid is needed for the US launch as a mature title, so I think it is safe to say these games will be out within 4 months launch if not on launch day already.

Remember, Nintendo has slown down Gamecube development for some time, and they are very busy prepping games for a launch.  Read how many games just from Nintendo are being prepared.  Not all these games will be launch games, but you know the first year of the Revolution is being prepped to include a nice lineup (hopefully with very little drought.)

If there is a drought we have the virtual console to keep us busy.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Rev attracts "Indie" developers
« on: February 25, 2006, 04:22:55 PM »
Smaller Publishers could probably set up preorders online and self publish.  Once they have the preorders needed for the smallest production units Nintendo will allow, then they can start production.  Then selling online you could get away with slightly less advanced packaging.

Its very doable, and something I am sure small publishers will look into.

You know I almost don't want E3 to come, because when we hear that the system is amazing and it won't be out until November it will be a long wait.

I am still hoping somehow Nintendo is pulling our leg and the system will be out sooner than later.

Hudsonhawk:  Which is why Powerstone is actually perfect for the DS.  It really frustrates me when companies see an easy port and just throw a game at a system without thinking if that game would be better else where.  Obviously, Powerstone's entire game mechanics would work much better and provide a more complete experience on the DS.

General Gaming / RE: Those dirty porn for kids games...
« on: February 24, 2006, 04:58:19 AM »
To be fair to the original poster.  Some gamers don't really enjoy the free roaming games.

I personally hate them.  I want to know what to do and how to accomplish it immediately.  That is not to say I don't want a challenge, I just really hate these open ended games.

I tried to get into the Grand Theft Auto series.  I ran around hijacked some cars and did some errands all while trying to find the next mission point.  That was the annoying thing.  You first have to find the first mission point, then you have to know how to get to the mission action, do everything for the mission and start all over.  And usually the mission stuff is the same as you can do just wondering around, you just finally get an award for it.

This isn't a fault of Grand Theft Auto, its a fault of the free roaming system.  Tony Hawk, Spiderman, True Crimes they all have this initial problem.  In fact many of the platform games are getting those problems too.

It is for this reason I usually only play Zelda games once.  I love the dungeons and the Zelda experience is my second favorite gaming experience (Mario is the first), but wondering around the game world trying to get all the side quests done to get to the next dungeon can be annoying and frustrating.  You can run through a Zelda game and get to the next dungeon quickly.  However, at least with Zelda the dungeon experiences are worth the effort.  They have direct objectives and have real rewards for your experience.

General Gaming / RE: Powerstone for PSP
« on: February 23, 2006, 09:05:52 AM »
Powerstone is a great game, but Capcom is making a mistake putting the game on PSP.  I think the game would play much better and smoother on the DS.

Reasons:

1)Top Screen needs to be a map, or better yet bottom screen needs to be a map, with the ability to tap the screen and lock the camera onto an opponent.  Too often Powerstone was too difficult to keep track of fights in its vastly crazy world.

2)The Wifi and Online support for this game would be nice with the DS.  Again the map feature would allow you to create larger levels to balance more fighters well.

3)Nintendo fans love Capcom and would probably support the game better than PSP buyers.  (Heck there are more sold units of the DS than PSP why Capcom would you betray us?)

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Why is the console so small?
« on: February 23, 2006, 08:59:18 AM »
OOPS. Thank Blk for the lesson.

Still my point is...you can't simply just look at what the Revolution is now, and think oh if only Nintendo spent $50 more dollars and made it $200-$250 then we could have that HD we are missing.

HD television is viewed as a luxury item, and until it is the standard and only way to watch television then it will remain a luxury item.  Meaning, it will remain at a premium price.

I bet it doesn't cost that much more to make an HD television compared to the Standard Defination televisions.  The issue is marketing the product to be more valuable in the eyes of the consumer.  This is one reason you should never adopt new technology early.  You pay a huge premium.

General Gaming / RE: PS3 Facing Delays - 2007?

I have a feeling Nintendo and Sony are going to both Release this November...but Nintendo may try to pull something and release in late August and try to get a 2 month jump on Sony.  It would be smart.

Nintendo seems to be in a great position with finally getting more complete development kits out to developers, and they are really gearing up for E3 this year.  I have a feeling the third party support this generation, or at least this launch will be pretty strong.

Ian Sane:  HD is more than just putting the outputs for HD.  You must have enough RAM to run high defination graphics.  You must have more powerful CPU to push greater polygon counts so that it will look right on an HD screen.

However, if you drop HD then you have a system that when compared on a SD screen can do everything that the new systems can do...and you are bringing it at a quality price, and innovating with a controller.

I think its a great vision for this coming generation.

TalkBack / RE:n-Space Working on Revolution Titles
« on: February 22, 2006, 03:01:51 PM »
The puzzles could have remained the same, but have several solutions.  Most of the puzzles revolved around how to possess different characters and use them to reach your next goal.  Unfortunately there was always just ONE character to use to accomplish that goal.  What was worse was there was just one way to successfully scare them.

Geist 2 would infinitely be better if you could have several different means of scaring people and gathering them.

Drop the cinemas for the scares, and just let it happen real time.  Then perhaps I might possess the wrong character and can't move forward, but I can unlock a side quest.

The game was very good at introducing new aspects and gameplay puzzles, but never over using them.

Combat was interesting, and had a feel of its own.  Which is good.

The story even hinted at things to come and then made you sit and wait when you would interact with those elements again.  BRILLIANT.

I have to agree with Bill.  Giest although not perfect was alot more enjoyable than ED.  I played ED and the story was amazing, but I felt like I was doing the same thing over and over.

Giest, I feel was a completely fresh experience, and I thought the story was very well thought out.  Bosses were cool and the logic to defeat them made sense.  Even puzzles in the game made perfect logical sense.  I remember playing the game and thinking to myself:  "I haven't experienced a game this well realized in a long time."

The problem was the control, linear aspects, and weak multiplayer.  However, all those things could easily be addressed in a sequel.

Bomberman 1st person is the worst idea.  The whole point of the game is the twitch factor of seeing everything going on and needing to react quickly to all the bomb madness.  The game would have to be changed too much for 1st person to actually work.

Hudson, what are you doing?  I know your franchise is getting old, but this isn't the means to revive it.

TalkBack / RE: New Release Date for The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
« on: February 19, 2006, 06:44:59 AM »
All I can say is.  Zelda being pushed back this long means Nintendo has another game they have worked 3+ years on.  Every Nintendo game that has had this long of development time has equalled HUGE success, and has been a game that redefined not just the series but usually the industry all together.

What could change the industry Revolution Forwards compatiability.

I tell you right now, THIS game will have Revolution controller support.  I would not be surprised if this game is being designed to use Revolution's technology to forward graphics.  (Remember Nintendo talking about enhancing the graphics of older games.  I can see later Gamecube games getting more enhancements then say Nintendo 64 or the 2D systems.)

I am not complaining.  This means I will be playing Zelda on the Revolution as a launch title.

I dunno KDR.  There is something nice about choosing between a punch and kicks, I really don't like how must 3D games just use simple button press combos for special moves and such.  A,A,B  should not be a special move.

General Gaming / RE: Xbox 360 = awesome system

Whoever said 6 buttons is too much for a fighting game I have to agree.  I think 4 two punch and 2 kick is more than enough for a 2D fighter.  IF a third attack is needed hitting both punch or both kick is easy enough.

That has always been something that frustrated me with Capcom fighters is that 6 button system is sometimes hard to hit all the buttons and perform combos.  It takes away from the experience some.

Mark of the Wolves is very good.  Fatal Fury has always been my second favorite fighting games series, but SNK always went overboard on way too complicated special move commands.

A game the sucked, but had an intersting controls was Primal Rage.  I liked how you pressed the buttons down, then inputted the command.  It meant you had to think about your moves more carefully, and you could perform the action without accidentally jumping, moving backwards, and so on.  Obviously the fighter was limited because of the character direction, but I always felt that game TRIED to innovate, just failed at it.
