Nintendo Gaming / RE:Hints from Madcatz?
« on: January 05, 2006, 07:29:12 AM »
I don't think its a hint either. Back when the GC launched I remember them announcing all sorts of stuff and nothing ever happening.

Unless you bought the MadCatz dance game...which I did and it sucked horribly. Traded it for like $20 at EB.

I think that you should grab the game, get it to EB, get store credit and buy something else.

That's what I would do.

Very cool. But why not DS? Large screen for all players, touch screen for control. They could even make original games for it.

Oh my God KDR...

I think I read about this a few months ago in a newspaper, but it said they were trying to make a game based on Puerto Rico's agriculture and set in the past.

This is...it's...I dunno, weird.

I wonder if I could get one around here. Maybe in San Juan?

Edit: I was just checking the forums on that site KDR, and apparently this game is pretty famous! I just hope that it gets you curious about our island, and you europeans may just visit us

Man, I can't find this game anywhere!

I'm going to the last local EB to see if they have it, if not, I will be mad.

Edit: Game not found. It is sold out here too.

Well, what about the PS3? Will they be able to take a big hit with the hardware (like the PS2)? What if by 2008 the PS3 and PSP are both non profitable...do you think they'll cut them?

I doubt it, but it would be a dream...

General Gaming / More Sony Job-cutting news

Hey guys;

Anyone remembers this and this? Well, heres a new article on our news paper. I'll transcribe;
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sony offers early retirement plan as part of job-cutting efforts
By Hiroko Tabuchi (TAP)
The San Juan Star 12/06/05

Tokyo- Sony Corp. has started offering early retirement to workers as part of its plan to cut 10,000 positions worldwide, an official for the consumer electronics and entertainment company said Monday. The Tokyo based manufacturer of the Walkman audio player and the Playstation video game console in September vowed to revive its ailing electronics operations with a range of reform steps over the next three years, including slashing 4,000 Japanese and 6,000 overseas positions by the end of March 2008. The company started offering early retirement packages Friday to workers in noncore operations, such as human resources and accounts, according to the official who cited company regulations for requesting that she be not identified by name. Managers and rank-and-file workers who have worked at least 10 years are eligible, and Sony will accept applications until Feb. 15, the official said, but declined to give a target figure for the program. Engineers are excluded from the latest voluntary retirement offer as Sony looks to maintain its R&D capabilities, she said.

On top of trimming jobs, Sony's turnaround plan - unveiled by chief executive Howard Stringer on Oct. 22 - calls fro the closing of 11 of its 65 manufacturing plants and shrinking or eliminating 15 unprofitable electronic operations by March 2008. The company has refused to say what those businesses are. Sony's profit in the latest quarter dropped by nearly half from a year ago, as electronics sales stayed flat, its movies business stumbled and earnings suffered from a heavier tax burden and losses related to equity holdings. The company reported group net profit of 28.5 billion yen ($246 million) for the three months ended Sept. 30, down 46 percent from 53.2 billion yen the same period a year ago, as healthy demand for the Playstation Portable handheld machines were offset by shakier performance in the company's core electronics unit, hurt by falling sales of plasma TVs and digital cameras. Rating company Standard & Poor's last month cut its credit rating for the company, citing doubts about the company's restructuring plan. Moody's Investors Service has also put Sony on review for a possible cut on grounds it will be hard for Sony to achieve the earnings success it had in the past.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, what do you think? Will the PSP be one of the 15 unprofitable businesses cut by March 2008? Does this explain why was the PS3 delayed (to get people to buy as many PS2s NOW that they are making a profit off of it)? Discuss!

P.S.
If there's a typo on the article, it's probably my fault, let me know and I'll send the scanned article to whomever wants it.

Well, my turn... Besides the usual things (Metroid Prime, Mario Sunshine, SSBM, Zelda, etc.) I had a great time with games that probably didn't sell that well.

1. Capcom Vs SNK 2: EO - This is, to date, the most played GC game in my house. We love SSBM, but nothing like an old school 2d fighter.

2. PSO EP I&II and PSO EP I&II Plus - Yeah, I have both. When we are not playing Capcom Vs SNK, we play PSO Plus.

3. Medal of Honor: Rising Sun - Not Halo, but its the FPS on the GC that we all have and play. We didn't like TimeSplitters, but we spent hours and hours on this game. Specially on that Baseball Field, 2 vs 2.

4. Animal Crossing - I bought this game for $17 used from EB Games, what a mistake. I played at home for 45 minutes and my friend took it to his house, leaving me a $20. I had to buy a new one for me. Then my other friends (brothers) did the same thing. Took my new game and left a $20. That means that in this gen, I bought 3 Animal Crossings lol.

5. Marvel Nemesis - Yes, I've said it, Marvel Nemesis. We all are great comic book fans, specially Marvel. We all hated the EA created characters (lol) but we loved the Marvel aspect of hero vs hero in the game. Besides, beating everyone with Daredevil is a personal accomplishment, "Justice...is blind".

6. Resident Evil 4 - Hands down, best game of THIS generation of consoles. I'm still trying to unlock everything.

That's about it. Who's next?
