Nintendo Gaming / Worldwide Million Sellers
« on: May 01, 2003, 08:37:56 PM »
Capcom said they have sold like 1.something million units of RE0.

These are the ones I'm ABSOLUTELY sure about:

Super Smash Bros. Melee
Super Mario Sunshine
Zelda
RE0
Mario Party
Luigi's Mansion
Animal Crossing
Metroid Prime
Sonic Adventure 2 - IGN said it passed a million worldwide a long time ago...
Pikmin

You're forgetting most of your numbers leave out Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart sells WAY more games than any other company in the world, by far. In the US it sells more than many other retailers combined. The vast majority of casual gamers (also the vast majority of gamers) buy games from Wal-Mart than anywhere else. There's a lot of sellin going on in those walmarts

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo doing it again??
« on: May 01, 2003, 08:30:47 PM »
Mario Kart is NOT being developed by NST. That is an OLD rumor and the Mario Kart page on this site hasn't been updated.

Miyamoto said HAL is working on multiple projects (GDC roundtable), probably Kirby's Air Ride and Pokemon Stadium. HAL always made stadium, and Miyamoto accidently let something about Stadium slip in the same interview.

NST probably can't handle more than 1080, they are already having enough trouble.

Too Human probably won't even be at E3 this year....

Intelligent Systems is working on Advance Wars 2, maybe a new Fire Emblem, and maybe more stuff....

EAD has over 1000 people and have only announced Pikmin 2, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing 2 (long ways away), and Mario 128...They definately have way more.

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo: Universal Game Developer
« on: May 01, 2003, 08:22:26 PM »
Nintendo bought the majority stake in the company back around 2000, that's fact. As for what happened afterwards, Nintendo probably bought the rest of them.

Intelligent Systems was not always first party. Here's the story:

Back in the early days, Nintendo had four R&D's:
R&D1 - still R&D1
R&D2 - hardware and stuff
R&D3 - hardware and stuff
R&D4 - EAD

R&D4 was and still is the only one that makes games and only games. They were renamed EAD at some poing. As for R&D1, this is what happened. A bunch of people from R&D1 left the group and started a company called Intelligent Systems. So now R&D1 was split into the old one and the new one. Nintendo promptly bought Intelligent Systems...so basically R&D1 just split into R&D1 and IntSys, BUT, they didn't turn into IntSys. Same is true for HAL Labs. They weren't first party to begin with. They were third party until they got closer and closer to Nintendo until Nintendo gobbled them up and relocated them to a Nintendo building. NST was created as "Nintendo of America's EAD", Retro was paid attention to as soon as they formed and promptly taken command of and then bought, and Silicon Knights was made a second party around 2000 for their impressive work on ED. I guess you can consider them second party, but I doubt they are going anywhere and Nintendo might own 100% of the shares by now - Niether company is willing to tell....sort of odd...Anyway, Nintendo owned a minority share of Rare, and didn't have complete control. Nintendo has complete controle over the above 6 developers, so they are pretty much first party or whatever you want to call them...

Nintendo Gaming / GTA3 and Vice City coming to Xbox and GCN in 2004
« on: May 01, 2003, 08:14:43 PM »
Release GTA4 on all platforms? huh....GTA4 is GTA3, and is exclusive to PC and PS2 for now.

The next GTA game will be GTA6 (tentative title of course) for PS2, then the deal will end. So GTA7 will be up for grabs...

In case you guys are dumb or something:
Grand Theft Auto
Grand Theft Auto: London 1959 (or 1969 or something)
Grand Theft Auto 2
Grand Theft Auto 3
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
So we have 5 GTA games....sure number then in whatever order, but the next one will be #6...

Nintendo Gaming / So what else does EAD have?
« on: May 01, 2003, 08:10:26 PM »
Ok. About 1000 people work at EAD. That's a loooot. Consider this, burnout was designed by like 5 people. True, Ocarina of Time was developed by over a whopping 200 people, but that was one of the most high profile games ever.

So let's see what they are working on...
Animal Crossing 2
Mario 128
Mario Kart - should be finished or almost finished
Pikmin 2

I may have left out some stuff...but I count 4 games for 1000 people...what else could they be working on? Totally new franchises? Remakes (eck)? Do you think we'll see some surprises at E3, or only those listed?

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo: Universal Game Developer

Well EAD alone employs about 1000 people and have developed everything from all types of racing games (inventing 2 of the most popular genres - kart and futuristic, they also pioneered motocross and jet ski), adventure games, platform games, strategy games, shooters, sports games, to whatever.
Then you got HAL Labs which makes great multiplayer based based games that are super addictive...
Game Freak, Game Designers Studio, and Camelot making RPG's
Intelligent Systems doing everything from strategy to action to RPG's
Silicon Knights doing mature adventure games
Retro Studios on action/adventure, although they could come up with pretty much anything by what it seems like...
NST on weird american racing/sports type games such as Wave Race and 1080
Zoonami working on some secret game....

And not really part of, owned by, or bound to Nintendo, but faithful to Nintendo, you got dudes like Factor 5, Sonic Team, and others....and Nintendo, although not believing in buying out companies (cough, didn't they buy Silicon Knights, Retro, and Intelligent Systems cough), they seem pretty content on handing a game over to any studio they like (from Amusement Vision to Namco) and publishing the title. So while they really only have 6 "first parties", or the dudes owned and operated by Nintendo or whatever you call them (Retro, NST, IntSys, HAL, EAD, Silicon Knights), they actually have a huge range of developers to choose from for any game they want to make. As long as Nintendo is publishing, what difference does it make?

I don't think they really need any genre-specific studios. Waste of time, money, and effort when you have so many teams to choose from...

TalkBack / Metal Gear Solid Confirmed for GameCube!

Maybe it's just me...but does anyone find it funny that Miyamoto is overseeing such a violent game? OK, so it's not as gory as Eternal Darkness was...and he helped out with that....But if he doesn't have a problem lending some suggestions and whatnot to M rated games how come EAD is so afraid to make at least one game not rated E? Not that I want EAD to, but you'd think he wouldn't even get near such violent games

The point is to get rid of bad language completely, not "cover it up" so the little kids won't get it. Everyone knows what "f***" means. That's a horrible idea.

Don't use freaking bad words. Jeez. You scum. You should be ashamed of yourselves You shouldn't have tried to use those words in the first place. You deserve to have to copy the post and refresh and paste

Nintendo Gaming / Skillz Cube Connection.....DIE!!!
« on: April 30, 2003, 12:48:33 PM »
There are some threads a while back that explain how to properly get it to work. For some reason you have to do in in some exact order. Something like installing the drivers BEFORE plugging it in...or something like that. Look at the old thread. I posted in it, so I guess you could check all my posts to find it or something...

But you will get to do new things with games. Like in Animal Crossing 2 you can email things to your friends that you save onto an SD card.

TalkBack / SD Adapter gets a Date!

The thing is...the GCN only has a limited number of actual save game slots. Unless the adapter has some sort of small built in thing that allows for unlimited slots via scrolling down at the memory card menu.

Although I'd like to be able to download SNES and/or N64 or even old Sega games-o-plenty on the SD adaptor. Maybe pay some money for old 16bit ports? Or download anything you've found in Animal Crossing and play it from any GCN? A 128 mb card could hold both Resident Evil 2 AND Turok 2, the two largest N64 games. It could hold Ocarina of Time 4 times. Imagine playing Streets of Rage 2 or Turtles in Time or Super Metroid on your GCN!
*squeals like a girl*
D'oh....but then again it won't happen...

Silicon Knights? They are part of Nintendo. Nintendo will be showing their games in the Nintendo booth (or should I say...big village thing).
No need to say things like Retro Studios, Silicon Knights, Intelligent Systems, NST, etc. since they are all part of Nintendo.

Nintendo Gaming / GTA3 and Vice City coming to Xbox and GCN in 2004
« on: April 28, 2003, 05:50:06 PM »
The new one AFTER the one in development may be multiplatform. After all, why not? All user bases are large enough to warrant awesome sales now...more than any bribe Sony can come up with this time. And besides, MS won't let Sony outbid them. They knew their mistake. Heck, even Nintendo acknowledges GTA, and may even try to keep it on cube...I doubt it though....
But I don't care...I got my PC

General Gaming / Sonic Heroes on Xbox and PS2, yay or boo?
« on: April 28, 2003, 05:48:02 PM »
Obviously, Sonic Team didn't have a choice in the multiplatform matter...but how do you feel about Sega's move. This is one of the only times I don't really care. It will probably still sell best on GCN anyway....and being exclusive isn't something that you can show off to your Xbox and PS2 buddies. Now if Streets of Rage was released, I'd want it to be GCN only, but for some reason I find myself not caring that this will be multiplatform.

Nintendo Gaming / GTA3 and Vice City coming to Xbox and GCN in 2004
« on: April 28, 2003, 05:44:55 PM »
I've beaten the PC version of GTA3, and will buy and beat GTA: Vice City on my PC later this month....but not everyone has Geforce4 Ti 4400 powered PC's. The xbox and GCN userbases are a lot larger now than when Sony first signed the deal. Combined, the worldwide Xbox and GCN userbases are well over 20 million, about half of the PS2's. And a lot of people are going to buy this game, even if they are 2 and even 3 years old. Heck, Sonic Adventure 2 is an old Dreamcast game and became a million seller on GCN.

As soon as the next GTA game is published on PS2 in 2004, it will publish Vice City and GTA3 on GCN and Xbox.

Just thought you might want to know

Carry on...

Nintendo Gaming / Metroid Prime 2
« on: April 25, 2003, 08:43:34 PM »
If we have Kraid you'll have to jump up plenty of levels

Anyway, don't worry about it. Retro won't let themselves let us down, and EAD and Miyamoto certainly won't...

Hm...besides the music, do you think Intelligent Systems had anything to do with Prime or anything to do with Metroid 6 in development (at least we get a movie at E3)....I mean...EAD had little to nothing to do with the original Metroid games....Retro and EAD sure did a good job of looking at what Intelligent Systems did and reproducing it...

As for the sequel....Yes if you saw the 100% ending...well they have already spoiled it but it is certainly quite ambiguous (cough, like Wind Waker...what's up with that Nintendo? Don't leave us hangin'!)....

Nintendo Gaming / Super Smash Bros Melee 2!!!
« on: April 25, 2003, 08:31:45 PM »
No one from Mega Man or Castlevania games will be in a Smash Bros. Sorry.

Nintendo published games only - Nothing from Konami or Capcom

But...since SSBM is still pretty much usually in the top 5 selling GCN games every month in all regions of the world....Well Nintendo won't release another one till it's made every last million off of Melee.

And Melee 2? They aren't going to name it melee 2. Call if SSB3 for crying out loud. It's like dumb kids who call Majora's Mask Zelda 2 because they didn't know about anything before the N64 and PS1...

Nintendo Gaming / RSIII : I don't understand!
« on: April 24, 2003, 08:26:32 PM »
If they are getting better graphics, it won't be much. They need to keep consistant frame rates...60 fps is important for aiming...especially in things like the Battle of Endor. EGM didn't say if they will have better graphics. Here is the scoop:

All over Rogue Leader's missions (including bonus missions) will be in Rebel Strike, but only for two players who wish to play co-op. As for if you can play co-op in the new missions, they haven't revealed that yet. They don't want to spoil the new missions do they? There are two different campaigns. The first mission in Rebel Strike is the same, then after that you can choose the Luke Skywalker campaign and the Wedge Antilles campaign. They both might offer different types of co-op options that Factor 5 doesn't want to reveal yet.
