TalkBack / RE: Nintendo Reveals Nintendo Pennant Chase Baseball
« on: January 27, 2005, 04:49:54 PM »
They should just turn the next Super Smash Bros into an all out freaking motherload of Nintendo stuff
Take Melee, Mario Kart, all the Mario sports, and as much other stuff they can come up with (i have it that HAL's been working on Smash Bros. 3 for a while..) and smash it all into an online enabled Revolution orgasm.

Maybe their saving Ichiro for the Revolution version? Since not as many will play the GCN version as the Revolution version...

This isn't really surprising... Japan is crazy about baseball, Nintendo is friendly with Ichiro, and Nintendo of America owns the Seattle Mariners (over 50% majority share, and the former NOA President is the chairman of the team).... Anyway this is actually being co-developed by Exile and Nintendo...

The screen is godly.
And it's very comfy and not too large.
Everything smudges up easily.
Graphics in Ridge Racers nice as heck.
Very well designed interface... you can tell Sony sticks to conventions unlike Nintendo, who put in a feature that other companies would've made standard years ago and then brags about it.

waaah waaaah
Re-releases can be good. Conker was released too late and not many got to enjoy this wonderful game and Rare is making it better than ever and re-releasing it. Ok so it's not a port as much as a full remake with full online multiplayer and amazing graphics but whatever.
I'd still kill for an online 16 player Perfect Dark... talk about killer app. And the co op and counter op in Perfect Dark blew away Halo's and timesplitters.

erm...where have you been looing...
For $100 my brother got a platinum GCN with 2 platinum Nintendo controllers, Mario Kart double dash, a black mad catz controller, a mad catz memory card, and an extention cord.

Well the sprites certainly looked much nicer (they were all screens taken from rendered 3D models), and the animation on them was better than FFTA. They were also much more detailed, even if they were prerendered it still looked nicer. AoE also had much more going on.. FFTA just looks barren compared to it. Of course AoE didn't have any of those fancy effects, all it had was the fire GIF

Well I've been hearing things about Konami aquiring SK, but for some reason that just makes me chuckle. Speaking of Konami... today's the 26th....

As a matter of fact...

Perfect Dark. Fully WLAN/online compatible in all modes (co-op, counter-op, 16 person multiplayer, 32 if they can manage it). New maps and stuff of course...

Lol your kidding right? DS only uses a slightly more expensive battery than the DS, and look at all that stuff it has to compared to the DS. Adding 100 Mhz won't kill the battery. And Nintendo can take a freaking hit in hardware for once. It's not like their short on cash or something. They have to be aggressive and make sacrifices. And even with the slightly more expensive battery and extra 100 Mhz it will still have much more life than PSP AND Nintendo will still probably manage to make money off of every DS, while Sony is losing more than MS did with Xbox, and that's with internal manufacturing.

General Gaming / RE: Resident Evil 4 heading to Playstation 2
« on: January 26, 2005, 08:51:31 AM »
Well first of all DOOM 3, Crytek, and Source all use advanced DX9 effects the GCN/Xbox aren't capable of producing. Heck my DX9 Geforce 4 Ti4400 can't even do them. What RE4 really doesn't have a lot of that games Rogue Squadron, Riddick, Star Fox Adventures, and PC games use a lot of are texture techniques like bump mapping and normal mapping.
Which is really sad because Gamecube does those better than any other console. Even Xbox can only do 4 texture passes per object, half what the GCN can do. And the GCN has a faster fill rate and double (i believe) the L2 cache. Note that the GCN's ArtX graphics chip was the base for the PC Radeon 9700 Pro (ArtX's first card for ATI) which single-handedly saved ATI from getting beat down by nvidia. The Xbox definately has more raw power and more RAM than the GCN, but the GCN can produce better effects and better looking models, if it's used properly (look at Rogue Squadron 3's models and effects).
For example, run the hardware stress test from the Counter-Strike Source main menu. It goes through a little cave with lots of stuff showing off Source's features and then gives you an average frame rate. There's one scene where it shows a human soldier made up of water, showing refraction and stuff like that. Super Smash Bro. Melee had the exact same thing (indistinguishable in quality, i compared them yesterday, rotating the camera out and viewing effects through the invisible person) back in 2001. You know the much showed off rippling glass/water effect? You know, the big wall of water used for force fields and glass? Star Fox Adventures had that (huge pillars of water in that one temple). And of course the fire in RE4 trounces everything.
GCN/Xbox both suffer from very low resolution textures compared to the high end PC games though... I wonder how Far Cry Instincts will look.. The PC version was beautiful.

Nintendo Gaming / Cheap DS skins

The Mirror Chrome DS looks cool, and the two Retro NES skins are pretty cool... only 5 bucks. But you know what the mirror chrome skin reminds me of? The Panasonic Q's reflective mirrored front. Nintendo seriously needs to make a really shiny, reflective Special Edition DS or something. The material used might have to be a little different but whatever... You know how the back of an iPod looks? The DS would look really cool like that...

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Demasked Confirmation?
« on: January 25, 2005, 05:29:20 PM »
Well either way I think E3 was always the latest.... Since the DS really shouldn't have shipped until March or so (when the PSP will ship)... but it's good that Nintendo chose to get a head start at the cost of have a big dry spell... People are complaining now but we'll all forget about it soon. Remember PS2's crappy games from launch till around GCN/Xbox launch. When GCN/Xbox launched there were already many early adopter PS2's out and that's exactly when the big games started hitting, GTA3, MGS2, Gran Turismo 3...Same with DS, right when the PSP is starting out in the US the big games like Mario Kart and Metroid will start hitting.

214
Yeah it is a cool gadget... if only it was more powerful It's not like CPU's are expensive... it would take them like 5 more dollars to get a 166 Mhz main CPU instead of the 66 Mhz...

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Demasked Confirmation?

I think people are overreacting.. I mean did anyone actually ever doubt that DS will have online games? o_O Nintendo specifically said DS will have online gaming ever since it was unveiled at E3, and now people are like OMG OMG the DS is going online!!!!!!!!111111!jlskdf

PS - "verse" is not the verb form of "versus" o_O I heard my first grader brother saying that the other day and now one of you
no wonder the average SAT score is so low... they need to have grammar classes

Yeah but have they bought DS's? I'm sure I could get anyone to have a blast with any game, be it on PC, DS, or Xbox. And i'm not saying non-gamers won't buy them. My cousins bought a DS and they don't really play much outside of a few PS2 and famous PC games. But anyway I think Nintendo's just being stupid thinking DS will attract "non-gamers" or crap like that. So what, your grandma is going to buy a DS? If your a guy and you're under 30 there's a 99% chance you play games to some extent. And there are plenty of girls in that age range that play games to certain extents too. The only people I can think of that never play games at all are pretty old people who still haven't gotten into games, and there aren't much of them either. I can't see my English teacher picking up a DS. The GBA SP is still far more universally attractive to non-gamers than the DS..

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Silicon Knights still working on games for GC

Yeah exactly, they removed it.. The only reason they posted it was because it was from TGS.. it might have been an inexperienced editor or something, either way they realized they shouldn't have posted it. Anyway I never doubted the possibility of them making Nintendo games, in fact I've been saying they're still working on a GCN game forever, i'm just saying that they never said they ARE working on a GCN game. Of course, they never said they were working on a PS2 or Xbox game either, but they did say they aren't exclusive anymore.

Personally I never had any doubt that Metroid Hunters will be online. And I'm sure there's no way NST and NOA won't push hard to have it online...
Anyway, that C&VG article doesn't say anything new...

219
Well I haven't seen any so called "retired gamers" or non gamers toting DS's around. The people buying DS's are gamers, and everyone knows the GB does so well is because everyone has one, even if they play games for like an hour or two a month.

So you're not going to believe the specific comments from Dennis Dyack and Nintendo? o_O Gamespot doesn't post things unless it's official, so saying you don't believe it because your not gullible is pretty foolish.

Yeah but the thing is, since Ganondorf doesn't have the Triforce of Power (according to Bill, I stopped playing at the scavenger hunt for the triforce pieces...) they when the Master Sword is pulled out shouldn't he just be a dead guy with a hole in his brain? I mean, the Triforce of Power is the only reason he's immortal. But I doubt the story writers care about any of this.. They were probably like, well lets just turn him to stone! That would be cool.

NES link's go together, SNES/GB Link's go together, N64 Links go together, GBC Link's go together obviously, GBA Four Swords and Minish Cap's links go together, and we'll see if WW link's goes with the new one.

Personally I'd prefer if it rounds out the end of the Hero of Time's story, rounding of a trilogy with MM and OoT. In OoT he wins, gets sent back to childhood, then goes off to Termina, then in this game he could be that Link whos finally grown into OoT's adult Link naturally, and this could tell the final story of his life. Imagine this new game ending with the Hero of Time dying (or going away somewhere, or sacrificing himself, or something) and setting up the events for Hyrule getting flooded and setting up TWW... Imagine this game closing with Hyrule's destruction

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Take Two seeks MLB exclusivity
« on: January 25, 2005, 12:30:48 PM »
Because helping EA by co-publishing an MLB game is an attempt at getting around an exclusivity contract and lawyers are going to be all over them. Anyway, I doubt this is even a possibility anyway because that would mean EA's MLB would become GCN exclusive and EA's not going to waste money making MLB games for about 10 people.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Prince of Persia: Warrior Within
« on: January 25, 2005, 12:29:02 PM »
I've never had any stability issues.
Oh and the PC and GCN versions of this game are superior to the Xbox version (audio glitches) and PS2 version (bad framerate and toned down graphics). If you have a pretty good PC and a dual analog controller (I suggest the Logitech Rumblepad 2 or the Thrustmaster 2 in 1, which has analog triggers and also hooks up to PS2's) get the PC version. Otherwise get the GCN version.
Yeah the fighting is pretty similar to Zelda, but more complicated and mixed in with a lot of acrobatics. It's like Starfox Adventures in that when you approach an enemy the Prince will automatically lock on. From then on like SFA and Zelda, you can circle strafe, attack, roll, backflip and such. You press R to block. But in addition to your standard sword in your right hand, you also have a seperate attack button for your left hand. If you only have one weapon that button is used for throws. If you have two swords the second one is controlled with that button. Mixed into the swordfighting you can chain combos and acrobatic flips and throws and such. I'd say its best described to outsiders as a very advanced version of Star Fox Adventures.

But I'd recomment the Sands of Time first. The combat is not as advanced as Warrior Within, but the game's atmosphere and attitude are much better. If you really like Sands of Time (which you most likely will), check out Warrior Within. The combat is better, overall gameplay mechanics are polished (less puzzles more combat though), but the story, atmosphere, dialogue, and music take a nosedive...

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Starcraft: Ghost
« on: January 25, 2005, 12:20:00 PM »
Who cares about Splinter Cell's plot lol... I'm sure he means Starcraft. And Ghost's plot will like be a side story with some cameos and not have much to do with the whole Starcraft plot... Although it would be hilarious if Kerrigan shows up in a boss battle. Also, maybe this takes place before starcraft... Or maybe this takes place while Starcraft and Brood War are happening, and will tie into those games missions.. That would be cool, and Blizzard won't have to deal with tying up plot from SC... that's reserved for a real SC2.
