>There are also a plot point in the movie I don't think is explained particularly well: how the pseudo-Occupy Wallstreet clown mob know that someone specifically dressed as a clown killed those 3 Wallstreet thugs to begin with. It feels like there was a scene cut where it revealed that someone saw that last Wallstreet guy get killed & reported it.

The woman who was being harassed by the three guys surely went to the cops after she heard about the murders.  I imagine she was all "Yeah, they were harassing me at x:xx and I left when they started harassing this clown freak instead." and the cops had already figured out the murders happened around x:xy due to information from the medical examiner combined with two of the bodies being on the train and the third having got off at a particular stop and leaving a bloody trail from the train and through the stop.

I finally watched Joker.

Damn, this was a great movie.

People who were complaining about the "message" of this movie missed the point.

Do recommend.  Best DC movie in a long time.

I'm glad we all pretty much agree about Legends.

It started out bad.  It tried to play things straight and serious and I spent so much time yelling at the TV that what they were doing made no sense in the context of the show.

Then, at some point, I feel like someone involved actually heard me and was like "You know what?  **** this.  We have a group of low-tier idiots running through time just fucking stuff up - let's just have fun." and the show got good.  It's not high value, philosophical, meaningful, or even particularly well written/produced/acted the vast majority of the time.  But it's just fun.

Why not split it up and have some play the OG/DX and some play the newer version?

I'm partial to the original vs the DX remake due to nostalgia and the fact it has no real missable items and can be 100% completed without making an... unfavorable game-altering decision.  However, the DX Version is, obviously, easier to obtain and play (legally, of course) on a modern system.  It's still a great game, either way you pick.

As for the GB vs Switch debate... I don't want to let my nostalgia cloud my opinion, but I do pick the original over the remake.  The dungeon maker is bland due to limitations on the design and is a bit of a disapointment, IMHO.  It's kinda fun to make 'boss rush's dungeons, but by the time all the chamber stones are unlocked, you're so overpowered that battling the Tail Cave boss again is just pointless.  The number of heart containers and secret seashells have been expanded (and chamber stones added) to the point where collecting everything starts to be less fun and more of a chore.  There are several great design choices - the overall redesign of the Trendy Game was nice (although the added statues seemed like pointless filler that added nothing to the game), the ability to warp to warp points with the Ocarina eliminated some backtracking (although with the small map, it wasn't really necessary).  I love the art design and music choices for the remake.  The elimination of that game-altering sidequest was welcome and it eliminated any missable aspects.

Any of the three versions are perfectly fine - but for your friends who have never played one before, consider - have half of them play a GB version, then the Switch version and have the other half play the Switch release, then one of the GB versions.  It'd be interesting to see the conversation of which version is better.

I still want to see it just to see it.  I just don't want to pay money for it.

I really don't understand why, at no point, did someone not say "Hey, maybe no?"

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there's a few folks who this will entertain - and by all means, enjoy it as I can't imagine anything similar will come along for awhile - but, overall, from the very first trailer, I think it was obvious, box office wise, this was going to crash and burn hard.  With all the names attached, I find it amazing no one said "Uh, how much will it cost to break my contract?  And do you take personal checks?"

I'm curious if they will bring him into the MCU or keep him stand alone.  Or just say **** it and have him exist in this pseudo-MCU state where MCU characters and settings appear in his movies, but he doesn't really appear in theirs.

I think the best answer is it depends on the method of time travel used.  I assume different methods of time travel have different effects.

You know, I had been avoiding this thread because I figured it'd end up bein guys shitting all over the luke-warm interest/excitement of everyone else for absolutely no reason but to make it known how edgy they are for not liking Star Wars anymore...

Glad to see I didn"t miss out on anything.

I think that's where the first, maybe four?, games succeed so well, the fifth and sixth games struggle and, unfortunately, Katrielle really comes up short.

There's always going to be hit or miss puzzles.  Maybe it's something too similar to a bunch of previous puzzles.  Maybe it's just something that doesn't click with a specific type of player.  Maybe it's just a bad puzzle.

The first four-or-so games are so charming, with the music, the art style, the cast of characters, and even the over the top storylines that you're willing to muscle through a few sluggish puzzles here and there to keep going.

But when you get to playing a game where the story is meh or you start disliking the main characters (personally, I began disliking Luke in TLS), the "bad" puzzles just become more of a chore.

I think that's why Katrielle has performed poorly.  The very loosely interconnected stories, none of the main characters are all that great (Ernest being downright intolerable), and even the art by way of character designs seems a bit... bland.  Why play through some mediocre puzzles when we never even solve Katri's first case ("Any Mystery Solved" my ass.)  And this all comes from someone who enjoyed the game. 🤣

Yeah, it's the slipcase.

Sadly, it is an import from the UK - where DS games are in bigger cases because Europe had to overcompensate or something (in reality, I believe it was to allow for thicker manuals in multiple languages).  But this means there's a bit of wiggle room with the NA releases inside.

Ordered the movie when it came out in the UK because they hadn't announced a US release yet.  Bought the US release when it came out in the US because reasons.

A.) Any indication the NFC Charms work witb the NA release?

B.) Will those who already played the 3DS version find much of anything new?

C.) If you like the idea of Kat continuing on Professor Layton's story, go watch the anime.  I've been wathing it of late.  It's fun.

Wait, what? Am I the only one who never got this reference? I mean, I remember that scene. I just never put the two together.

It's very subtle - It's not like Uncle Bob couldn't mean a million different things.  You'd need to know my affinity for the movie to ever make the connection.

On the other hand, maybe I just really, really liked Con Air...

Terminator: Dark Fate - it may have taken 27 years but we finally got the third movie we truly deserved. Linda Hamilton still captures attention as strongly as she did in T2.

I'm a huge Terminator fan (thus the nickname).  T2 is my favorite movie of all time with the first one as a close second.  I enjoyed Genisys (but will admit it has a *LOT* of flaws).  I have rewatched RotM once since I saw it in theaters and came out hating it - and, at that time, I had recently read an analysis of the series that gave me a new appreciation for the movie.  It's still terrible, but if you take out what little attempts there are at SciFi elements, at the horror elements, and the whole man vs machine existential crisis that the first two movies are built on, you're left with a pretty fucking awesome 2-hour long chase sequence that does a good job at that.  Salvation is... an Okay movie if you just take John/Kyle out of it and forget it's supposed to be a Terminator movie and just watch it as some kind of generic dystopian future war movie.  The machinma series is neat for what it is.  And Sarah Connor Chronicles is a freaking amazing series and I hate FOX for killing it.

All that said, Dark Fate easily ranks #3 on the list.  It fails to hit the horror aspects that 1 & 2 did so well and the editing suffers from the quick cuts that all action movies are made up of in the last 10-15 years.  The main antagonist is... a really cool idea, but often just appears in places.  Granted, you probably don't need yet another scene of it quickly killing a bunch of random guards and touching a computer, but...

Linda Hamilton fucking nailed everything about this movie and this franchise.  She did amazing.  Dani was great and I'd be interested in seeing them build her character in a theoretical sequel that will probably never happen.  Grace was a thing.  I get why Sarah is secretive and overly protective of herself.  Grace seems to be one of those "I'm not going to tell you this useful information so I appear more mysterious and I can reveal it more dramatically later." characters.  Bleh.  The way they developed Arnold's Terminator here worked well, building on what was set up in T2.  Oh, and what I assume to be digital voodoo at the beginning of the movie for HIM... I need to google what went on there, because if you told me they sent a Time Machine back to 1991 and plucked him out of time to record that scene, I'd believe it.

All that said, I watched the movie in a 4D theater and... I do NOT recommend it.  There were very, very few scenes where the effects were used well, but it was mostly a lot of being thrown around in the seats and air being blown on your face.  Something like this works for a ~15 minute ride, not for a 2 hour movie.

I'll definitely watch this one again.

The movie is *great*.  It's not a cinematic masterpiece, but fans of the series will enjoy it.

I've been watching bootleg subtitled uploads of the spin-off anime and I'm really enjoying it too.

I'm still salty to this day that PAL territories didn't get London Life

For what it's worth, the DS is region free and the game is fairly common in the US second hand market.

I hate you, Khushrenada.

Well, this thread took a darker turn that I anticipated.

What's worse is trying to track down information on these charms.

I *think* I have them all, although I did have to buy a copy of the Japanese game, as it had one included as a preorder bonus.

https://www.takaratomy.co.jp/products/layton/

This is about the only real list I've found.  And because Tomy apparently hates me, all the text is in images.  So I had to grab the image file URLs, upload them to an OCR scanner to extract the text, then run that text through Google translate.  It would have been easier to learn Japanese at this point. 🤣

I hate you, Khushrenada.

I love Layton and have all the games (even downloaded the Layton Bros. game... never managed to force myself all the way through it though).  I imported two Club Nintendo prizes for Layton (an awesome slip case box for the original trilogy and a... uh... luggage tag.  But I own it.

Anywhoo, this thread had me googling Layton stuff again and I found out there were NFC Charms released in Japan for the Switch version of Millionaires' Conspiracy.

I just threw down $140 to get most of the set imported from Japan.  SUPER is going to order two of them because they don't ship to the US.

You just made me spend $140 on smaller, less functional (probably non-functional in the US Release), less cool looking amiibo.

Disney really knows how to to hit those nostalgia buttons.

Iger betting the farm on D+?

MCU Shows on D+ cost upwards of $25m per episode!!
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/features/bob-iger-bets-company-hollywood-s-future-streaming-1247663

While I'm confident in D+ making money, $25M per episode seems like overkill.

Worth noting that likely uses fuzzy Hollywood math.  I'm sure some of that cost will be shouldered on product placement advertising, taxpayer-funded discounts for filming in certian states/countries, and licensing agreements.
