Now come on and let's be realistic.  While I don't see Nintendo going third party, just because they said before that they won't, it doesn't mean it's true.  No one - not even Nintendo -  can predict the future...

>Here in the U.S. Walmarts destroy malls, and mom and pop shops, I've heard of many towns forcing away new locations from being built.

I believe what you meant to say was "Here in the U.S., the customers that choose to shop at Wal-Mart cause the destruction of malls, and mom and pop shops."

I caught something no one else did...

Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM), a global leader in wired and wireless broadband communications semiconductors, today announced a strategic partnership to provide wireless technology for Nintendo's next generation gaming systems.

While playing some WW:T!, I noticed something midly interesting... In 9-Volt's microgame "8-Bit Heros", during the third level, the Ice Climber's cutscene shows the unedited-supposedly-released-in-the-US-but-has-never-acutally-surfaced version with the seals.  I'm surprised that NoA didn't change that... ?

This would only work if they sold games at such a low price that ads were the sole source of profit and people were willing to deal with the ads for super-cheap videogames.

This could be interesting... Would you pay $5 for a new Mario game where instead of Mushrooms and Feathers, Mario grabs Nestle's Crunch and Resee's Peanut Butter Cups - and the "unedited" version (with Mushrooms and Feathers) was sitting beside it for $45 more?

$266 Million, or more than one-third of advertising in games in 2009, will come from "advergaming," when advertisers create a game around a product rather than place their brands within a well-known title, according to Yankee Group senior analyst Mike Goodman at the Advertising In Games Forum.

err...

You know, I (and most every "gamer" and "casual gamer") detest the large majority of lisenced games...  But at least, generally, there's occasionally a decent-good lisenced game released...

This scares the *crap* out of me...  "The Adventures of Smokin' Joe Camel!  You'll traverse the Egyptian Landscape to collect all ten packs of Joe's secret stash of full-flavored, ultra smooth Camel Cigarettes.  You'll face all kinds of evil enemies like Soccor Moms, School Heath Department and Physical Education Teachers and Politicans all on your way to do battle the evil Surgeon General and discover the true, cool flavor of Camel Cigarettes!  This game is MSRP $49.99 and is rated M for Mature!"

[...]profits from their portables as MS and Sony do with both their console's combined.

Well, that's not really fair, now is it?  If Microsoft is (supposedly) losing a ton of money on it's gaming department, it'd be silly to "combine" it's figures with that from any other company.

Timmy: I have $5!
Johnny:  I owe my big sister $4
Corey: I have $2!  I have twice as much as both of you combined!  Haha!

Yet MS and Sony soak up all the attention leading to third parties abandoning Nintendo's GameCube (which I will state again has helped them generate three billion dollars more in profits than Sony)

How much of that three billion dollars (or the total seven) actually came from the GameCube though?  How much was because of the GameBoy Advance, Pokémon Trading cards and other merchandise?

In fact the mainstreme will need an extra incentive to buy the new systems because they won't be able to tell the difference between the graphics.

The "incentive" to buy a new system will be what it always has been.  Because they aren't releasing any more games for the old one.

(I do agree with a lot of what you said though, just wanted to point that out...)

As far as the legal term, yes, it's "Copyright infringement".

As far as I'm concerned, if you take something from someone else that doesn't belong to you without their permission, it's theft.

What he said!

Do I think the NES Classics series were worth the $20 price tag?  With the exception of three of them (SMB, LoZ and ZII) and two I bought for my wife (Castlevania and Dr. Mario), not really...  But considering they sold decent (although many dropped to $10-$15 of late) I guess some people did.

How, exactly, do you expect Nintendo (or anyone) to account for lost sales based upon the theft of these older titles?

I mean, look at it this way, someone who might want to play, say, the original Legend of Zelda... They can just go and spend $50-$75 on one of these Power Players.  Or they could buy a GBA, GBASP or DS along with the NES Classics edition (for anywhere from $50 to $170).  Look at all that money NoA just lost because of theft.
Now let's tag on the fact that, generally, people don't buy an entire system *just* for one game.  So there's another $20-$???  That NoA has lost because of theft.
Oh, and the $50-$75 that went to those who illegaly created the Power Player, well now they can make more, sell more and steal from Nintendo (or whatever company they fell like) even more.

Now you have to take into account that just because someone was willing to pay $50-$75 for the 80.000-in-1 Power Player, they might not be so inclined to spend as much on a GBA/DS + game pak(s).  But then, when someone is caught stealing an item from the local Wal-Mart or your home, the courts don't estimate how much the thieves would be willing to spend to legally purchase the stolen products, do they?

Or, perhaps, a Mario Kart GX (RX?) that can dial into/connect via the Internet to Mario Cart AX - wherein you can battle others playing the console version *or* the arcade version...

Or what about the arcade version having built in NiFi protocols so it can talk to your DS.... and tell it things....

Heh... It almost makes me feel bad for calling Nintendo and two different Mall Managements on two different kiosks that I saw set up.

Almost...

Yeah, wasn't sure where to post this - but since it was GBA related and I don't post on the general board (i.e.: no one who only goes there would know me), I choose to post it here.

And yeah, I'd be easy to find (address and all), but who would leave me a $30 GBA/e-Reader set?

(edit) Oh, and the reverse phone search doesn't really explain how they knew my Birthday was coming up...

Hello...

Some of you know me as "UncleBob".  Many of you know me as the "JookySeaCaptain".

And someone knows where I live.

Today, I had the weirdest thing happen.  I left my apartment to go get my wife and I some sodas.  I live on the third floor of an apartment building - when I left, my wife just stayed in the living room which is right on the other side of our door.

Upon returning home (with soda in tow!), there's a box right outside the door.  It's a box for a giant champange glass (turned upside down) retaped with masking tape.  Written on it is (in large, bold letters with a black marker) "HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOOKYSEACAPTAIN".  (Note: My birthday isn't for three weeks...) After a little debate, my wife grabbed the box and opened it.  Inside was the GameBoy Advance e-Reader bundle.

Stranger yet, after calling Nintendo and having them trace the serial number, it turns out that the set was bought at a Wal-Mart on the 4th.  They couldn't tell me for certian which store it was bought at but was able to give me a few numbers, one of which (using my previous expierence working at Wal-Mart) I identified as a possible store number.  This store is located in Mississippi... about seven hours from me.  Now I don't know for certian that it was purchased at this store because I can't be certian the number they gave me was actually a store number...

My wife denies any involvement - and I believe her.  She says that she didn't hear anyone in the hallway while I was gone (and I wasn't gone more than 10 mins).  It's possible that I could have not seen the small box on my way out the door to get sodas.  And eariler in the day, while me and my wife were... errr... napping, I thought I heard a knock on the door - but when I went to go check, there was no one there (although I did just look through the peephole) and when I checked out the window, I didn't see anyone getting into a car/a car leaving.  And while many people I know IRL know my "UncleBob" nom de plume, very few people know me (IRL) as the "JookySeaCaptain".

So it's all very interesting/creepy.  Eh?

Is there *any* company who wouldn't like to destroy their competition?

As long as they don't use illegal method to do so, then it's not illegal.  EA is free to make offers to various companies to use their lisenced properties just as Take Two or any other company can do.  These other companies are free to accept or decline these offers.  There is nothing illegal going on here...

Look, it's not illegal what EA is doing... It'd be like Disney signing a 10 year agreement with McDonald's for McDonald's to be the soul distributor of Disney Kid's Meal toys.  One company has the rights and they lease them to another - it's all legal.

It sucks, completly, but it's legal.

Are we going to start complaining because Nintendo won't let Sony and Microsoft use their properties, even though they let EA, Konami and Namco use them?

Yeah, what Ben said and more.... You cound download the patch for Ru/Sa via the Pokémon Colosseum bonus disc (that you got from pre-ordering Pokémon Colosseum) along with a GCN-GBA link cable.  You could also download the patch from demo GCN units set up that had a GCN-GBA link cable hooked into them while a particular GCN Retail Demo Disc was in it (I only remember seeing this at an EB Games).

The Bug was that the internal clock would stop working after one year meaning certian events (like, for example berries wouldn't grow) were disrupted.  I don't know exactly how the patch was applied to the cart to fix it, but it worked...
