Nintendo Gaming / This is a Wii game? WTF? o_0

Yeah, okay, I stole it from GoNintendo, but no one commented on that there yet.

Watch out for the Shriekbats.  There are some of these hard-to-scan creatures in every major area, I believe, but the ones in the Pirate Homeworld don't come back after a while.

Do you know how long it took my for the Sweet Honey Trees to give me a $&#! Munchlax in Pokémon: Diamond Version?

Hope he isn't as rare in this game.  That sounds kind of fun, him eating items.  As long as it's not something you're going for, anyway.

It would be funny if he ate Bob-Ombs, Starmen, Hammers, Poké Balls, Smash Balls, and other interesting items and at least reacted a little differently while/after eating them.

I have the Super Mario Bros. 3 Happy Meal toys, a near-mint condition Game & Watch Zelda, I ordered a plush Kirby on eBay that should be arriving any day now, and I built a Super Mushroom and an Octorok out of PixelBlocks...

(I also want to get that plush Goomba that makes the "Goomba-squish" noise when you bop its head...and a replica Master Sword...)

But I'm sure that's seriously weak...though I did go to E3 2006 specifically to touch a Wii before most people here ever did...does that count for anything?

Whatever happened to the good ol' days when people simply equated power with bittage and everyone was okay with the Super NES being 16-bit, only twice as powerful as the 8-bit NES?  Oh, and the Genesis supposedly "doubled up" with the 32X, and then there was the 32-bit PSX.  Oh, but Nintendo strikes back with the N64, with 64 bits of power!

You'd think it would be normal for being "only twice as powerful" as the previous generation.

In any case, I don't ever find games twice as fun the next generation around.

Okay, I'm a little late, but I finished the game yesterday with 100% but missing four scans.  Stupid thing is, one of those four was Meta-Ridley, since the boss fight was so cool I reset the game to replay it but forgot to scan him again.  >_<

Gotta unlock some stuff now.  I have a bunch of Tokens, obviously, but not Green.  Hmmm, can I really just start a game on a new slot, get the 1000 Kills in that bug room, give away a bunch of vouchers, and then delete that slot and start again to get another easy bunch of vouchers?  And repeat?  Of course, what I need is someone willing to trade back the same amount...

Anyway, anyone want to trade Friend Vouchers?

I come back and there's this talk about fleas, no-men, and naked hunter-gatherers?  WTF?

I was questioning if I was a Nintendo fan, but I don't think I'm a naked hunter-gatherer.

Though I guess to ask another question, is there anyone here who HAS played every Nintendo game (or at least every one in their region of the world)?  From the sounds of it, probably no.

I'm also surprised at the number of Metroid-haters in this topic.  0_0

Question about vouchers...

I know if you copy a game to another slot, the Tokens are not retained.  Probably the same goes for Friend Vouchers.

But how about copying the saves to an SD card, then backing that up on a computer?  Then you give away all your Friend Vouchers from your save on the Wii.  If you then copy your save back from your computer or even just from the SD card, really, would you then have your Friend Vouchers back that you can give away again?

Aren't there just TOO many extra effects on Diddy alone?

"You can charge the gun.  BY THE WAY, it could blow up in your face if you charge too long."
"You may get a peanut when the shell breaks.  BY THE WAY, you can eat that to restore some health."
"You can fly up with the barrel jetpack.  BY THE WAY, it can fly off and blow up."

Shouldn't they save the extra effects for some of the other characters?  I don't remember that much for anybody, ever.

If Nintendo's still among the biggest Japanese companies, couldn't it buy Apple outright instead of just merging with them?

Don't know if that should happen, or if that should matter, or what.  Just wondering.

Wow, I'm just like Ghisy, except that I never bothered with Wave Race!

I guess that is kinda whiny in my first post.  I don't need to throw all my dollars at everything Nintendo puts out, that's true.  And it is interesting to note what games everyone here has or hasn't played.

What was that Nintendo (Super) Game Boy game that Nintendo developed that no one played?  Mole Mania?  LOL.

Ian's right, not everyone has to like every series.  But I'd like to be multi-genred, as I find that too many people seem to like JUST sports, or JUST RPGs, or JUST shooters.  Of course, it's probably skewed to buy only JUST Nintendo games, though I do seem to finish everyone else's games to toal completion within a rental period.  Or maybe I just like to take my time with Nintendo games, since obviously I'm a Nintendo fan/fanboy/devotee.  :P

Ever since the Super NES, the majority of my games have been Nintendo's own...

For the record, I didn't play the Donkey Konga games...or the DK: King Of Swing games...or Mario Vs. DK 2: March Of The Minis...and I don't think I'll be looking particularly forward to Barrel Blast or whatever...

For example, I play all the major series, but I was never interested in Advance Wars or Fire Emblem.  At the same time, I never gave them a chance, so maybe I could like them.  But if I never make time for them, are my playing practices shameful in the eyes of other Nintendo fans?

Similarly, while I've played Pokémon Red/Silver/Ruby/FireRed/Diamond (and play in tandem with my brother who has the other version), I hope I'm not chastised among Pokémon fans for missing out on the enhanced Yellow/Crystal/Emerald, or not following the cartoon show anymore, missed a few of the later movies, or never having played Pokémon Channel.

I could never finish the F-Zero games, because I suck at racing.  The Story Mode in F-Zero GX (Chapter 7) is particularly irksome.  Is liking the series enough to be a fan?

And as a big Zelda fan, am I supposed to play every Zelda game, even when they're rereleased?  (Ie. I finished Ocarina Of Time twice on the N64 and also the Master Quest version on the Wind Waker Bonus Disc.  Am I supposed to play OoT again on the Bonus Disc, the Zelda Collectors Edition Disc, and on the VC?  Why can't Nintendo make saves for the same game compatible?)  And, also as a Zelda fan, does that mean I'm supposed to want to play the CD-i games, or should I be supporting the movement to disavow them?  Similarly, for whatever reason I never bought a Virtual Boy or an e-Reader.  Should I have?

I'm so confused.

I don't think anyone in this topic talked about the trainer's Final Smash attack.

But most likely it will be that the Pokémon is swapped out for a Legendary Pokémon.  Since Groudon and Deoxys are in Poké Balls, it'd have to be someone else...like Dialga.

Or maybe Nosepass, LOL.

I almost wonder if I should stop going to smashbros.com.  It might be more exciting to see new fighters and the story mode's cut scenes and all the other cool new developments for the first time when I play the game.

Man, that's cool.  A cut-scene all about Pit.

I'm in the camp of "I already have half a dozen DVD-playing devices in my household", but if the Wii is capable, I wouldn't mind making full use of it.

I got home from work, just in time to see my brother finish the game.  He doesn't have work or school today so he spent the afternoon playing it.

He finished it in 2 hours and 59 minutes...but with 99% of the items.  Boy, is he mad about the last 1%.  But now he has an excuse to play it again.

EDIT: Even funnier and more amazing is that my memory of the game is nowhere near as good as his, and yet I knew right away which 1% he was missing...a Missile Tank high up in ("Eastern?") Crateria.

TalkBack / RE:Quebec Getting More Games in French
« on: August 19, 2007, 04:03:41 AM »
I could be wrong, but Quebec looks larger than Texas to me.  At least in comparison to the rest of Canada compared to how Texas is to the rest of the States.  And I'm sure Canada has more landmass than the States.  Of course, I could be wrong, whatever.

I remember the Quebecois making a big deal about this back when Pokémon started.  They wanted French names for them or the games would be banned or something.  I guess the accent aigu on the e (é) wasn't enough to fool them.  You don't see us complaining that "Pikachu" and "Pachirisu" and "Togepi" are still in Japanese...but I can still understand, for the names that are portmanteaus (I like that word).

Just stick Es on things and reverse the order of some words.  I'm fairly confident that "Pokémon: Diamond Version" is "Pokémon: Versione Diamonde".  :P

I think Ocarina Of Time fell under the "RPG" category while the other Zelda games didn't, at least the first time I looked.  (They could have changed it...I saw the Capcom category split up for no real reason and then when I looked at it later it was fine.)

I don't think any of the Zelda games are truly RPGs, but that's another story, I guess.  I would figure all Zelda games should be the same genre, no matter what you call it.  I'd call it "adventure", which may be vague, but I wouldn't call it an RPG.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:The Official "I WANT THIS STAGE IN THE GAME" Thread
« on: August 15, 2007, 03:42:12 PM »
Brain Age: the stage consists of a white space where Brain Age and Brain Age 2 challenges appear.  There would be straight black lines as platforms, of course.

When the "Connect Maze" appears, numbered/lettered dots and a giant stylus appears and traces the lines from A to 1 to B to 2 etc.  The lines created could be temporary platforms or maybe dangerous to touch or get hit by.  There would be fewer dots to connect, or maybe it'd be limited to a few numbers (like in WarioWare: Smooth Moves).

When "Low To High" appears, numbers flash on the screen and are replaced with boxes.  In numerical order, the boxes are tapped by the giant stylus where massive damage happens.  To throw everyone off, sometimes the giant stylus wielder might make a mistake and hit the boxes out of order, but the taps would still do damage.

When "Stroop Test" appears, the words could just do damage where they appear, provided there's some kind of warning where a coloured word would appear a second later.

Etc.

A little weird, but hey, Brain Age has sold and still continues to sell like hot cakes.

Don't know if this has been mentioned but with regard to the stickers as a never-ending collection thing...

In SSB:M, after receiving the Pikmin trophy, I wanted EVERY freaking Nintendo game to unlock a new trophy.  Then trophies would prove how much of a Nintendo fan I am (except that my Blockbuster never did carry Chibi-Robo and I never got around to Odama...).  The problem with that is that SSB:M would have to be set up in at least one of three ways:

a) the new trophy data would have to exist in the original game, with five years worth of games planned out, which would require too much foresight.
b) OR, the new trophy data would have to be on some online database, but the GameCube's online capabilities were never truly tapped.
c) OR, the new trophy data would have to be included in the save files of every Nintendo game made, with SSB:M already programmed to scan all the saves on the Memory Cards and be ready to extract data from them - and 3D models probably take up quite a bit of space which would balloon save files which would not be cool for non-SSB:M owners.

However, stickers are simple 2D images, which would take next to no time to download, or add minimal extra space to saved games, which makes b) and c) above now feasible.  I would prefer b) so that we could get stickers for Wii games that already exist that likely do not have sticker data.

UNLIMITED COLLECTING!  Okay, maybe not unlimited, but quite expandable!

While I prefer trophies to stickers, you could probably collect a lot more stickers especially with the possibilities above, you can do more stuff with them, and multiple ones would serve an actual purpose.

I think Pac-Man is more iconic, than, say, Solid Snake.

I remember Hideo Kojima's statement about Metal Gear never being on a Nintendo platform *coughMetalGear/Snake'sRevenge/GhostBabel/TwinSnakescough* which was only a few years ago yet before Twin Snakes, of course, but if it's true that he begged for Snake to be in SSB:M, well, I still think it's weird.  Had he not asked, I would've thought someone more classic Konami and Nintendoish would be someone like Simon Belmont, what with his NES/Game Boy/Super NES adventures and Captain N appearance (even if that was DiC, really).  :P  I guess Snake is more commonly popular these days, which would boost sales better than if they were going for the Castlevania fan, however, since the MGS games are coming to the PSP and PS3, it doesn't feel like a good fit.

I guess it's too late for that, though.

I think since Konami is in, then Capcom (with Mega Man) should be in.  Those two were the first two third parties I recognized in the NES days that are still around and have lengthy series.

Keep your Solid Snake, stick in Sonic, Pac-Man, Mega Man, and maybe if Square-Enix ought to be there, then a moogle (or (a) Mog, whatever) and call it quits.

I started going to church recently and found that the adult Sunday school teacher is a Pokémon fan (and he's a doctor, too).  I got him some Pokémon he couldn't get and we've been exchanging emails about Pokémon this week.  I was going to tell him about the Pokémon Trainer in SSB:B, but I think I'd better direct-link the post about it, and even so after the Devil isn't the top of the main page.  >_<

I'm sure he knows it's a game, and it's not a big deal, but I still don't feel comfortable going, "hey, look, it's the Devil!  Check it out!"

(On a side note the church bought a GameCube and SSB:M for one of the rooms for the kids.  Awesome.)
