Again, I don't consider myself a PC gamer, but I don't really get what you mean here.  Especially since, like I said, the games I play on PC are the same ones as those available on consoles.  I'm playing LEGO Star Wars II right now - and I don't see how the PC version is less "revisitable" than the console versions...

People used to say I was crazy for suggesting that getting a PC version of a console game was a better idea.  I'd say,"look, you're on the Internet, so you likely already have a PC to play it on."  Then they'd insist it was still better to buy a console because a video card was more expensive.  Now when you consider the prices of next-gen consoles (other than the Wii) and decent-enough video cards now, I'd say my argument has more punch.  I'm don't consider myself a PC gamer, as I said, but when my "weaker" computer "only" has a Radeon X800 that can be hooked up to a TV and do recently-released games well enough and is much cheaper than a PS3, I don't see what the point is to get the console version of the game.

Now Nintendo's best games are their own and don't come to the PC.  Whether you agree with my logic above, you can see why I prefer Nintendo and yet don't feel like I miss much from not having the other consoles since I don't mind their best games' PC versions.  (Okay, I miss some PS2 RPGs you don't see elsewhere, but otherwise...why?)

The Xbox 360 isn't even on my radar.  The Xbox was never even considered since nearly every game (not every game, but pretty darn close) that I remotely wanted to play ended up on the PC as well.  (I don't understand the division between PC gamers and console gamers...well, the kind of games I play on my PC are the kind of games you play on consoles anyway.)  Even Microsoft's own Halo 2, if I ever want to play it, is coming to Windows Vista.  The Xbox 360 is shaping up to be the same.  Sure, there's Dead Rising and maybe the Rare(ware) games but it's still mostly stuff I'd prefer to get on the PC.

I was ALMOST considering the PS3 over a year ago, but the constant shooting in the foot that Sony is doing, and the crazy price, is making that another off-the-radar thing.  I'd play it, but I'm not sure I'd ever own one.  I can actually afford it, but I don't want to throw money at things I don't want to support.

That being said, I support what the Wii is doing, so $250 (well, $280 Canadian) is worth it. Sure, everyone would rather pay less but $280 isn't unreasonable IMO.

It would depend on what interactions Link has with the world around him, and how asymmetrical those things he interacts with, or his own actions, would be.  Like if he needs his sword hand or shield hand on a particular side.

A crude example: say there's a steam vent sticking diagonally out of a wall.  Link times his jump off a nearby ledge so that the steam hits his shield and propels him where he needs to go.  If Link was mirrored but the world wasn't, then he wouldn't be able to use his shield against the steam.  If both are mirrored then it's not a problem.  (Of course, they could redesign the stages...you'd think they could've with all the time they've spent with the game...)

Maybe not a good example but something similar like that could "explain" why the whole world would be mirrored if Link is, even if just to match the handedness of the majority.  It still doesn't explain to me why they don't do the same for the GameCube version and just create some consistency between the games - especially since it's already been established that this is a different Link.  I don't remember anything saying that everyone in the bloodline named Link HAS to be a lefty (and even if so, it could be easily retconned).

Here's the picture that I linked to yesterday or the day before or something (scroll down to near the bottom of the page).  You're right, the exit has changed from the top to the side, but most of the mini-map, as well as what is visible, is horizontally mirrored.  I'm not sure if that's the picture you wanted though, if there are others.

Though it may depend on the inclusion of sidequests, subquests, getting lost, getting stuck, etc., I've never taken developers' own game time estimates seriously.  I've heard of games taking approximately 50 hours before and I can finish them 100% in like half the time.  Mind you, they're not always way off, but the longer they claim it is the less likely it'll actually be.

If someone cared to, I'd bet I can finish this 100+ hour Zelda in 50 hours or less.

If something like the camera had an asymmetrical glitch (like maybe it can somehow be forced to the left side but not the right or vice versa), and that didn't happen to be mirrored as well, then perhaps one version might have more or different glitches than the other.

I mentioned this in another topic, but it looks like it's confirmed via this IGN article with Miyamoto.

This should be interesting for people who buy the wrong strategy guide...

Couldn't they have mirrored the GameCube one as well, so that they could be the same?  Are there really that many Zelda fans that NEED Link to be left-handed?  I'm a huge Zelda fan...am I really going to freak out 'cause Link decided to switch sword hands?  NO.  Sheesh.

« on: September 20, 2006, 09:56:11 AM »
It's not confirmed...after all, even if that demo area was flipped, it is just that one area that we know of so far.  And if Link truly is still left-handed in the GCN version then maybe it's not dependent entirely on that and etc. so areas may or may not have been flipped dependent or independent of Link's hand-switching.

Judging by the Ocarina Of Time beta stuff, I would say that what Zelda game developers originally intend may not be what they find they really want by the end of it.  Doesn't seem like much to stress over.  It's not like they flipped the world upside-down or anything.

If we were tiny candy blobs, we'd fill up the whole box.  Both sides.

I'm hungry for some Nerds candy now...  >_<

Or is it?  ;P

I don't see why the Wii in standby mode couldn't do the same thing, if they really wanted to.

I guess if the Cell processors don't fail, there's more raw computing power in the PS3, but hey, it can't hurt to have the Wii help out.  It'd be cool to say "my Wii cures diseases", even if only potentially.

At some point after the Wii is available to consumers, couldn't some techie geek hacker disassemble a Wii and figure the specs out?

If it hasn't been mentioned yet, it looks like to make Link a righty, they actually mirrored the entire world.  (Scroll down to the bottom.)  Whoa, trippy...

Reminds me of the part where you flip the dungeon upside-down in Majora's Mask...

If they really did flip the whole world, maybe there isn't an option for either hand, and maybe the GCN version also has Link being a righty.

Can you really blame them?

Sure, it's dumb that they dropped Nintendo in the first place, but of course that's just my opinion as a Nintendo fan (more dumb if I actually shopped in such a place).  With all the hype the Wii is getting, it'd be extremely dumb to keep that Nintendo boycott.  If they dropped it in the first place because they didn't think Nintendo products sold well, it'd only be logical that they'd pick them back up if they thought they would sell.

Yup, there's actually a Wii bandwagon now.  Better get on.

EDIT: When did "boycott" become a modable word?

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Recommended SD Card size for Wii?
« on: September 19, 2006, 02:42:11 PM »
I am so glad the digital camera (a Kodak one) I decided to buy for my trip to E3 uses SD cards.  I had been contemplating one that uses CF cards, since I have another device that uses them, but eventually made, apparently, the right choice.

Then I lost the cable that lets you transfer images from the camera directly to the computer, so instead of buying a replacement, I bought a card reader/writer, which is also apparently a good choice because now I'll be able to back up whatever I save on the card(s) from the Wii.

(It also means I can abuse the Wii's Photo Channel with all that porn I have...  >_>)

1 GB is a pretty good standard starting size.  I guess 2 GB and 4 GB is good if you can get a good deal on them, why not?  I saw an 8 GB one that was ridiculously expensive, but maybe that was a CF card.

The Wii's OS is upgradeable, so unless there's a physical limitation, the Wii can be upgraded to handle larger cards in the future, can't it?

EDIT: BTW I found the article that Rick linked to fairly interesting.  If that's really the case then maybe you can hold off on the SD cards, depending on how much space is used for other things, like Wii game saves and whatnot.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:How to show Wii to Nintendo-haters on Day One?
« on: September 19, 2006, 12:18:08 PM »
I don't mean "non-gamers", Ian, I'm thinking more my friends who have, for the last generation or two, given up on Nintendo.  Technically they probably don't "hate" Nintendo, they just didn't find much appealing on the N64 and GameCube.  I'd like to show them some Wii games but whether or not they're truly graphic whores or not, I'm wondering what games will truly wow them.  And I would prefer multiplayer games (even if controllers are pricey) rather than taking turns on a one-player game like Zelda.

The flickering in the corner gave away that it was emulated.  And emulated or not, codes or a cheat device such as the Action Replay could've been used.

Speaking of cheat devices, I wonder if my overusage of the GameShark back in the N64 days has caused my cartridge to only allow Mario to be selectable in the 1P modes?

Wow, I've seen more recommendations in this topic for Excite Truck than anywhere else, ever.  Perhaps I should give it another look.  I typically don't like racing games, but hey...I guess I liked Excitebike way back when.  Then again, this is pretty different from Excitebike, isn't it?

My first two hands-on experiences with the WiiPointer at E3 were for the tech demos "Obstacle Course" and the ping pong game.  If these are in WiiPlay, I definitely want it if only to relive those moments.

I've never lined up at midnight either.  I got my GameCube and DS on the first day but those were morning (as in, actually morning and not midnight) line-ups that weren't too long.

Perhaps it would be neat to, but I don't know if stores in Edmonton find it necessary...
