I was looking for the URL for the component cable page on Nintendo's online store to help out a co-worker (who just got a Wii yesterday, and she won't stop raving about it today), and found something odd.

I went to www.nintendo.com, then I went to the store from there manually, selected Canadian prices, and found my way to the component cables.  They're listed as $35.99 (CDN).  However, when I copied the URL and pasted it into another window, it read $29.95 (CDN).  I double-checked, and yes, it does say CDN and not US.  I did the process again just now and it still does the same thing, as long as you're pasting it in another window.  Going through it manually from the American side, I noticed that the American price is $29.95 U.S.

I don't need component cables as I already have them, but I wonder if this is a glitch that might allow a Canadian to get component cables for six dollars less?  I would guess that when you get to the checkout the proper price will be displayed, as I can't imagine Nintendo being so careless and it's probably just a cookie screw-up that shows a different price.

I <3 it.  Especially the 0:18 point.

Someone should make an animated .GIF of that scene with big text overlaid on top saying THE SEATBELT SIGN IS ON!  GAWD!

I caught the morning news, and supposedly two guys went to a Best Buy around here.  They grabbed an Xbox (that's what the story said, anyway) and walked out with it.  When two employees (not sure why they felt a need to specify that they were female) approached them when they clearly didn't intend on paying for it, and the employees got pepper-sprayed.  The Xbox-nabbers were caught on camera and someone managed to get down their license plate number as they got away.

Stealing an Xbox?  WTF.  I would assume that they just said that for the news story, more likely it was an Xbox 360 specifically, but I find this an odd thing to steal after this last holiday season.  Why not a Wii or a PS3?  Xbox 360 is SO last year's news.  Maybe the Wii and PS3 weren't available at that store (you'd think there'd be a couple PS3s gathering dust) and they felt like nabbing SOMEthing.

Next of all, stealing is stupid anyway.

(Yes, I confess to taking $200 from a guy from Hong Kong who was staying with my family for a few months for school.  He had it in a small unlocked safe-type box that he kept in plain sight in the guest room.  I figured he had lots of money in there that he wouldn't mind if $20 was missing.  Next thing I knew I took $200.  He was from a kinda rich family apparently and didn't accuse me when I ran into him a couple years later in university but it still wasn't right and I confess it every time theft comes up as a topic.)

Personal preference against Xboxes aside, it seems like a dumb thing to do for any bit of electronics.  Not as bad as a few years back when someone drove a car right into a Toys R Us only to jump in and grab a single PS2 (just one, supposedly no controllers or games while they were already at it, the story goes) and then driving out of there.

I just felt like ranting.  I never hear about any cool bank heists; people seem to just want to grab one little thing.

Maybe the news just want to make gamers seem like criminal-types.  Thanks a lot.  At least I don't recall any stories about people stealing Nintendo products...yet.

Seriously, is Pale going to come around and lock this up?

I couldn't care less what some of you guys think, I've pretty much made up my mind, I just feel like typing this out.

Okay, here's the thing.  I met this girl (let's call her Ada, as in Ada Wong of RE4, because in some ways she looks like her) three and a half years ago when I had just shortly before that been promoted to supervisor at Playdium and she had returned to work after a hiatus of a year or two.  I could bore you with the hokeyness of how when she walked into the room time slowed down to a near-stop, and I really felt like I knew her from somewhere before and yadda yadda yadda.  You get it - I was entranced.  Witty, cute, smart, etc.

Thing is, she had recently started seeing a guy at the time - let's call him Wesker - a few weeks before that, who had actually started work at the same place just a week before (different position though).  Me and Ada got along real well, (I remember one day, not that much later, in fact, she suddenly hugged me for the first time for no apparent reason which really surprised me) and everyone knew that I liked her, even before I did, probably.  Even Wesker wasn't so braindead and he figured this out soon enough too, and he tried to get another girl - let's call her Ashley - to go out with me instead of Ada when he knew we were going to go see Once Upon A Time In Mexico together for her birthday.  Once, Wesker was caught cheating on Ada (apparently I missed a big fight in the crew room since I didn't work that day), and she forgave him the day later.  There were always rumours that Wesker was a "player" and many co-workers thought that Ada would be better off with me, but she stuck by Wesker, even though she said many times that she didn't think she'd ever marry a guy like him.

I quit work there a few months later but I still visited Playdium on Saturdays when I had time since she tended to work then, and of course when I heard that it was closing I made an effort to be there every week.  Even now to the present we're good friends - as good as any of my real-life friends are with me, anyway.  Probably one of my best friends now, even.  We communicate most often online, but because she's always so busy it seems we only actually see each other once every couple months when she's available away from studies and work.  We've gone for coffee multiple times, a few movies (including March of the Penguins...she loves penguins), and even dinner, but she's still with Wesker.

This weekend, Ada, Ashley (who I mentioned above), and one guy (he doesn't need a pseudonym but we can call him Luis) are all coming over to play some Wii.  Then Luis will leave 'cause he can't stay for long, and Ada and Ashley and I will go for dinner at a Japanese restaurant nearby.

I'm wondering if I should tell Ashley to go to the bathroom for like ten minutes so I can tell Ada how I feel.

I want her to know that I like her (DUH, she can't be that oblivious...maybe) but that maybe I'm wasting my time.  If she doesn't like me back, that's fine, and we're mature enough not to let this awkwardness screw up our friendship, since we are good friends, I'd say.  Over three years is unhealthy to infatuate.

I figure that if I can confidently tell her that she means the world to me but that I'm man enough to move on since I'm getting nowhere with her, she might at least appreciate my confidence (which I generally lack and is likely my least appealing quality).  I don't know if she's actually oblivious, or never considered me because I never explicitly told her so she stuck with Wesker even though he's cheated on her more than once supposedly.  I could say that if she ever loses Wesker for whatever reason, but wants some guy, that if she could ever consider me, I'd be the happiest guy in the world, but for now I won't be so monogamous on my crushes since it's a waste of my time and my life.

Is that a good approach?  I'm not saying I'm giving up on her, but I'm telling her I'm not going to bank all my happiness on her any longer since she still hasn't been more than just a friend.  Then she knows but doesn't feel pressured to either increase or decrease our friendship.

Or am I wrong?

YES I'M AN EMO LOSER WHINER VIRGIN SHU'UP.

Nintendo Gaming / My SSBM and Eternal Darkness YouTube videos
« on: January 01, 2007, 02:04:40 AM »
I only just signed up for my own YouTube account yesterday, so I finally got around to putting up the two ideos me and my brother made way back in 2002 for VGMaps.com.  These were available on fileplanet but they'll probably get some more exposure on YouTube, even if they're a few years old now.

Eternal Darkness music video, set to Curve's Hell Above Water (made by me)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HF4Cr047IVA
I chose the song since the Ancients look like sea creatures.

Super Smash Bros.: Melee Special Movie 2 (made mostly by my brother, with help from me)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jc3LGTNALy0
Like the first Special Movie, but with the hidden characters.

You may have seen the Special Movie 2 before, but seeing as how it was me and my brother who made it, I think it's more proper from my uploading of it than anyone else's.

Look, I don't know why my brother insisted on having that bit where they zoomed in on Roy's foot.  >_<  An unprofessional touch to a decent video, but whatever.

I first noticed this on Twilight Princess recently...speckles that appear on the screen.  I thought they were random but soon I noticed they were in the same spots when playing Twilight Princess.  If I returned to the Wii menu after Zelda, they would be there too, most noticeably to the left of the Disc Channel.

I wasn't sure at first if it was the TV or the component cable or the game or the Wii itself, but it may be a Wii problem, as the specks it creates seem specific per game and yet I didn't have these speckles until a few days ago.  There are some in Wii Sports now too and I rented Rayman: Raving Rabbids, where there are many noticeable speckles that fall within a series of vertical bands across the center of the screen.  The game is still playable, things are still visibile, but if this is a problem that will worsen then I want to do something about it.  I don't want to send it in for repairs but maybe have to (and I don't want to lose my saves or Miis or VC games, etc.).

My brother says people on GameFAQs think it's an overheating problem.  I have it vertical, as I always have, but recently I moved the Wii lower down the shelf so that my brother could play DDR: Mario Mix without the dance pad's cable being a problem.  Lower down here, there's less ventilation and it's surrounded by the satellite receiver, DVD player, and amplifier.  Could that be why, if the Wii is actually prone to overheating?  The other guess is that the video card is screwy, which will definitely need repairs.

I never had a problem with Nintendo hardware until I got a DS Lite earlier this year with a dead pixel in the middle of it (thankfully the store took it back without a fuss).  I hope Nintendo 's hardware track record isn't slipping; my NES still works.  >_<

Who's BAD?!?

EDIT: Even though the Power Glove is associated with Nintendo, I belive it's really a Mattel product.  So they're inaccurate in saying it's Nintendo's venture into VR.

Nintendo Gaming / You can buy COMPONENT CABLES - ONLINE as of NOW
« on: November 15, 2006, 04:06:05 AM »
http://store.nintendo.com/componentvideocable
Forget those bogged-down phone lines.  Buy them online (if you're American or Canadian)!  I found that from the same GoNintendo topic.  It's not available through the Nintendo Online Store's search function just yet.

I already bought them this morning.  Over $50 Canadian, after expedited shipping and taxes.  I want these ASAP, two business days might already be rushing it, but at least they're on their way.  I wouldn't wait if you want them for launch.

Nintendo Gaming / Are you actually prepared for the Wii?
« on: November 14, 2006, 05:58:27 AM »
Come Nov. 19 (assuming you're getting it launch day), are you ready for maximum Wii fun ASAP?  There are less than five days left, that's as many days as you have fingers on ONE HAND!  Almost there!  But enough time to prepare if you're not quite ready yet.

Things I still have to do to prepare for the Wii:

-buy some more rechargeable AA batteries for the Wii Remotes
STATUS: done!  Eight new ones (plus about as many other ones I already have if I can find them) should be enough.

-reinstall Nintendo Wi-Fi Connector
STATUS: done, but I'm unsure if the living room is in range of the computer room - is there any way to "boost" it if not?

-find Wii component cables
STATUS: done, I ordered online, hopefully they'll arrive before launch

-clear living room to make room for multiplayer games
STATUS: mostly done, just need to move the coffee table out

-find a second Wii Nunchuck
STATUS: need to do, preferably before launch if they're available

-buy another SD card?
STATUS: not sure if it's necessary yet, I could use the one I already have for my camera for the time being

-invite people to a Wii launch party
STATUS: response is minimal and discouraging...their loss!

-pick up Wii on morning of Nov. 19
STATUS: pre-ordered, but should call to find when they open

Nintendo Gaming / The "D... S..." subtitles
« on: November 11, 2006, 06:58:39 AM »
This should be fun for about two minutes, until somebody figures them all out.

Match the "DS" subtitle with the title of the DS game.

A: Advance Wars
B: Bokura no Taiyou (Lunar Knights)
C: CastleVania
D: Dig Dug
E: Fullmetal Alchemist
F: Guilty Gear
G: Lunar
H: Mage Knight
I: Mr. Driller
J: Resident Evil
K: Super Black Bass
L: Tao's Adventure
M: Tenchu

01: Dark Secret
02: Dawn of Sorrow
03: Deadly Silence
04: Curse of the Demon Seal
05: Destiny's Soldier
06: Digging Strike
07: Django and Sabata
08: Dragon Song
09: Drill Spirits
10: Dual Strike
11: Dual Sympathy
12: Dust Strikers
13: Dynamic Shot

I know the Japanese title of Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime has a D and an S, but I don't know if it's intentional.

Since these games have been released, have there been any more?

How do you define a console gamer and a PC gamer?  It sounds like it should be what they play their games on, but why does it matter and why is there animosity between them?

Let's look at the PC games I've been played/replayed this year:
Beyond Good & Evil
Hitman: Blood Money
LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy
Pac-Man World 3
Prince Of Persia: Warrior Within
Psychonauts
Silent Hill 3
Silent Hill 4: The Room
Tomb Raider: Legend

Well, what do you know, all these games are also console games.

Now with the exception of Hitman (on the keyboard and mouse), I've played these games with an N64 controller (connected to my PC through a USB adaptor thanks to Lik-Sang) or a Logitech Dual Action game pad that resembles a PlayStation Dual Shock controller.  Also, both my computers are capable of being hooked up to our 57" widescreen TV.  So the controllers and the ability to play on a TV...same as if I was a strictly console gamer.

So if I continued to play only games that are also on consoles in a fashion similar to that of consoles but technically it's on a PC, does this make me a PC gamer or a console gamer, or would I be a double agent in the pointless war between console gamers and PC gamers?

Of course, neither format has had as much time spent on as on my DS/DS Lite.  (Too many DS games to play right now, grrr.)  Why are handhelds, PC, and consoles considered different markets?  How many people honestly strictly avoid or stick to just handhelds, PC, or consoles?  Am I the weirdo here for playing all three?

General Chat / Where's a good place to buy Nintendo Monopoly online?
« on: October 26, 2006, 05:32:45 PM »
I'm Canadian, so I was bummed to see that amazon.com has it but amazon.ca doesn't.

After spending money on a Wii universal TV remote, Transformers: The Movie - 20th Anniversary Special Edition DVD, and Jam-Packed FoxTrot, I'm wondering why I'm spending so much money online in less than two days.  And I was considering that Samus Aran statue thingy too.  Good thing my brother's birthday and Christmas are coming up soon, I could say some of these things are for him and then hog them myself.  >_>

Anyway, the Monopoly: Nintendo edition or whatever it's called is cool because I don't have any recent/decent condition board games considering I've been playing almost exclusively video games for far too long.  At least this way it's a board game but I can still hang with Nintendo characters like the fanboy I apparently am.

So is there a good place to buy this game online, especially considering I'm Canadian?

42
I thought the Wii Remote-like TV remotes would be more expensive on eBay than what the real deal will be.  Apparently not.  It's not really that rare or anything.

So today I bought one.  My first eBay purchase.  Finally, eh?  Though it'll only be fun for a short while, it'd be something to look forward to getting between now and a Wii.

Does anyone else have a Wii TV remote?  Or am I just a sucker for Wii stuff now?

Nintendo Gaming / Component cables confirmed
« on: October 19, 2006, 09:36:27 AM »
480p a Go For Wii Launch (@ IGN.com)

Loving the component cables I got for my GameCube, I've kept on saying that I wanted component cables for the Wii as well, preferably as soon as possible.  (GameCube component cables aren't compatible with the Wii, but that was already determined earlier.)

Well, IGN has confirmed that they'll be available "with the launch of the console in November", but once again, through Nintendo's own online store.  Yet it'll also be available at other online retailers like EB Games, Best Buy, and Circuit City.  (I certainly hope it'll be available beforehand so I can order it with the possibility that I'll have it on Nov. 19 but at least it wouldn't be much later if I couldn't order it until then, either.)

Though I've seen stores having the supposedly-online-orderable-only Wi-Fi USB Connector dongle very soon after it was made available...

General Gaming / The secret Nintendo song by Kazumi Totaka
« on: October 16, 2006, 05:13:52 PM »
I didn't see a post of it here, and I know some people here don't seem to like GoNintendo (where I found this), so maybe you haven't seen it yet:

Secret song in Nintendo titles

That tune from the "O" in Mario Paint and the K.K. Song in Animal Crossing are the same tune, which I already knew about...but did you know that it is also hidden in Link's Awakening, Yoshi's Story, Super Mario Land 2, and other Nintendo games?  o_0

How do people find these things?  Considering that you have to wait 2 and a half to 4 minutes to find some of them...

Nintendo Gaming / Wii Experience Videos

I didn't see it anywhere here yet so I thought I'd point out some Wii Experience videos on the official site.
Wii Experience

*goes to watch the American and French women play Wii Sports Tennis again*

I'm at work at my computer with no speakers so if there's sound, I can't hear it.  They're probably laughing it up from all the excitement and fun that only a Wii can provide.

Would be nice if they have some Wii Boxing videos soon.

49
And yes, I have done it in Animal Crossing for the GameCube as well.

What is it with Nintendo and difficult tasks?  I expect I'll have to get to nearly a billion Bells in every AC game that will ever be.  I only have like 380 of the 386 Pokémon (the ones left are from stupid promotional thingies that I miss out on).  I can't pass F-Zero GX Story Mode 7 (but maybe just 'cause I suck at racing).

Sure, it's a good feeling when you finally accomplish something difficult, but things like a billion Bells in AC is so tedious and time-consuming it's almost not fun.

And yet, I keep going.  >_<  *sigh*

Nintendo Gaming / Wii Calculator - how much will you spend?
« on: September 21, 2006, 09:50:48 AM »
N-Sider.com has a handy "Nintendo Wii Calculator", to easily figure out how much you'll spend on launch day.

Here is the American version.
Here is the Canadian version.

(If this is accurate, looks like I have to save up $513.99. That's in Canadian dollars, with 6% tax, and includes a second WiiPointer, second Nunchuk, two Classic Controllers, Zelda: Twilight Princess, and 2000 WiiPoints. Splitting the cost with my brother, that's almost exactly $257. Not bad.)

EDIT: If the price doesn't update when adding/subtracting games, choose a different tax rate and then reselect the proper one.
