Nintendo Gaming / RE: i av ds

I can't decide on a control scheme.  I'm still tooling around with it.

I'm leaning towards the thumbstrap, though.

TalkBack / RE: Nintendo DS Puts New Experiences Only a Touch Away
« on: November 21, 2004, 07:18:21 PM »
I was outside the gamestop at 11:00 this morning, waiting for the store to open.  Was in and out in 10 minutes.

I lucked out in the "Waiting to charge" department.  I had DnD at 11:30, so I just plugged it in at my DM's house and let it charge while we played, and we miraculously stopped playing right at 3:30.

I picked up Mario64 as well.  It was a tossup between that and Feel the Magic, but I figured Mario would have more staying power, as I may not get another DS game for a while.  This little purchase set me back a ways.

It was worth it, though.  Now I just wish I knew someone else with one.  I may just take mine to the Gamestop and challenge random shoppers to a Metroid duel.

...not a bad idea at all...

Because the supply of the DS on Nov 21 is nowhere near what people would have demanded if they had started the commercials earlier.

That, and they want these things to really take off around Christmas.  Why have people buy your cash cow a month and a half early if you can get them prepped for the holidays, when they would be more likley to buy -more- than just any other day.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: come list Games ideas

I agree with the Starfox idea...just the thought of a multiplayer Starfox makes me squeal in fanboyish delight.

And though the general consensus against ports seems to be Nay, I for one would love to get some Conker action on my DS.

I could be sitting on the bus, and turn up the Mighty Poo song.  Captive audiences are the best kind, no?

As for just game ideas...I dunno.  I think I'll leave that up to the game designers.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:GBASP Batteries in the DS?
« on: November 17, 2004, 03:45:59 PM »
Well...the DS is clearly based off the SP in design and such, being the exact same width, with the same plug for the charger...

But the DS battery has around the same play time as the GBA battery did, but this time it will be supporting two fully backlit screens plus a more powerful processor...

So, I'd say no.  It might be the same size or some such, but I would reckon they are completley different batteries.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Disturbing conversation overhead at a Game Stop...

I actually had the opposite problem.  The guys at the local EB were rather biased, but the guys at Gamestop were pretty open, and Nintendo friendly.

That, and they remember my name.  How cool is that?  I have my DS pre-ordered at the Gamestop, but I've actually changed my mind about some of the guys at EB.  One snuck me the cool "Fatal Fury" hat you'd normally get with the new KOF game, after I asked him if it was for sale.

And, I was just in my Gamestop, and the DS was not only getting alot of attention (they had the kisosks there, and I played a little Hunters), but the clerks were genuinely trying to sell it.  I was impressed.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:DS Pre-orders

Man, I am so glad I preordered mine in mid October.

Namely because I had misread the release date and thought it was the 11th, but it worked out for me anyways.

...I don't see why M$ would prevent that from happening.  Rare has released a few games for the GBA, and besides, I don't think M$ has control over games already released for Nintendo systems.  Sure, the Xbox version is basically the same thing with better graphics but....I just don't think Rare would willingly pass up an oppurtunity for more money.  KnowhatImean?

Anyhoo, it's all just conjecture as of now.  I would still love to see that ported though.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: PSP vs DS
« on: October 27, 2004, 06:56:55 PM »
...excuse my ignorant ramblings...but whats to stop some enterprising young chap from turning a DS card into a portable HD that happens to have mp3 reading software?

At 128mb a card, with the potential battery life of just having sound with minimal screen output...I think the DS could make for a pretty good mp3 player.  Then again...I know next to nothing of the technology, so I may be missing some important bit here...

Anyhoo...Something along these lines could seriously close the gap between the DS and PSP in lieu of apps other than just Gameplaying.  SeewhatImean?

I was in Gamestop the other day, buying PM2 and chatting it up with the sales clerk.  I already have my DS preordered, and have loads of money down on the sucker.

Anyhoo, he says (very cryptically, mind you), that he has it on from a reputable source (which he also didn't come out and name) that the likes of Starfox64, COnkers bad Fur Day, and even Goldeneye are all up for porting to the DS.

Just the thought of those three on the DS is enough to make all a twitter.

Anyways...I know more than a few people who utterly hate the DS.  They see it as nothing more than a cheap gimmicky replacement for the GBA, no matter how much I argue.

If one were to assume that those three games, plus others from the 64, are actually going to be ported in the near future....would it be easier to call the DS a portable 64, as opposed to an entirely new system? I think I could sell more people on the idea, and not just drive them into a blind rage at the mere mention of the system.

Thoughts?

Hey now.  What if the anime is about Link getting his voice back?

First episode, opening scene, Link wakes up to find his voice is gone!

Ganon(dorf), having stolen it for some nefarious scheme or another, initially uses it to lure Zelda into a trap....

Or something along those lines.  It'd be a nifty gimmick.  Hard to pull off, though.

I dunno...I'm getting a clean $50 for the DC, but since I bought my GBA SP used, and it has a slight defect, I'll consider myself lucky if I can get $25 for it.

Still.  Thats halfway there.  No complaints on my part.

Well...maybe Sony will wise up.  I mean...Nintendo has basically done everything it could to blow the PSP out of the water, and Sony isn't going to take this sitting down.  I really don't see Sony taking a huge blow to profits just to compete with the DS, so they'll probably throw in a game with it, or maybe a free movie offer.

Someone said they might offer FF:AC with it.  ...if I were Sony, that would be exactly what I would do.  It seems to be the only way they can even think to compete.  AC is the kind of "event" that could sell a system, if done right, and Sony could bundle that in and minimize losses, while keeping some semblance of competition with The Big N.

I seem to remember what happened the last time a company tried to release a "Multimedia" system for really high prices.  Anyone else remember the 3DO?  I had completley forgotten about it, until my roomate for college showed up with one.  Sony is shooting themselves in the foot, here.  Of course, considering what they are trying to do,  they are screwed no matter which way they go.  Lose money if they go too cheap, lose customers if they charge too high.   The PSP just seems...like a bad idea, wrapped in a moronic assumption.

However...I doth want that DS.  I'm selling my Dreamcast and my GBA, and going without real food for a month.  But I will have that DS.

Er...too late.  Already got that.

And as for wakeboarding...I think I did that once.  I was really really young however, and don't remember much...just going really fast and then falling into the water...

Or maybe that was something else...
