Nintendo Gaming / RE:Capcom has a lot of Wii games planned, but...
« on: February 11, 2007, 03:03:27 AM »
Not entirely. Some of my friends recently said that Wii Sports was the only good game for the system and once that wears off there is nothing left. According to one of them, Wii is "the worst system ever released". I tried to get an explanation on why the system fails so much, but I didn't get one. They all owned Xbox 360 systems, but have played the Wii at least once or twice. One of them cited Madden 2007 as a game that made the Wii horrible.

The Wii itself could apply some sort of patch to the game. The game doesn't necessarily have to built-in support for it. Though the term "wrapper" is probably more appropriate because you can't really patch non-writeable media. It would sort of intercept certain calls.

Anyway, the patch idea is pretty unlikely and would be difficult for games not designed for it (or so I would imagine).

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Nintendo's Message on your Wii about wrist straps
« on: February 06, 2007, 02:29:01 PM »
If you own a Wii, then a "defective" announcement doesn't matter--they already have your money. Honestly though, I don't think anyone will be turned off the Wii because the original wrist straps were faulty. It's old news now and people still are waiting in line to try and get a system.

I do think it is odd that this message is being sent out so late.

The Wii is a whole different story. With ease of development, mass appeal and tons of potential, developers are now making a lot of games for it, but now the fans are complaining that the Wii will be home to un-inspired ports, rush jobs and third party games we don't care about...

And it will be. Maybe not much more than the GameCube was, but it definitely will have a lot of crappy games. Just like the DS has games where the developers put little thought into creativity, but instead shoehorned touch screen controls where they don't belong. We can expect some of the same on Wii.

However, and this is the good part, with the increased popularity we will be getting more games in general. We might have a smaller percentage of gems than we did in previous generations, but the overall number of qualities titles should be higher. In that aspect, the Wii will become the PS2 of this generation.

One would think Nintendo would be bragging more about free development tools if they were actually free. I think Nintendo has the cheapest professional tools, which excludes Microsoft's XNA, but I am pretty sure they are not free.

Wow those screenshots remind me of how much of a jump the N64 to GameCube was.

I am the only one who thought Link didn't always look awesome but overall looked much better than in OoT?

I do not watch the SuperBowl. I am either going to follow the entire season (NEVER HAPPENING) or not watch it all.

That's my story and I am sticking to it.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Official Wii Sales Thread
« on: February 04, 2007, 12:47:43 PM »
Don't many games require DirectX 10 and, therefore, Windows Vista to run? If a lot of gamers do not upgrade, then that could harm sales on Vista-only games. Less Vista users means less potential buyers means less sales.

Unless new games are both XP and Vista compatible (are some developers doing this?), or everyone upgrades to Vista, won't game sales suffer a bit? It must be nice for MS to have a virtual monopoly in the OS market.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Nintendo online argument
« on: February 04, 2007, 11:07:30 AM »
Personally, I think Nintendo needs to target both audiences and, when you look at it, they already are. We all know that an Animal Crossing game for Wii is inevitable and Super Smash Bros. Brawl has confirmed online support. Right there are two games, targeting largely different markets, both with online support. I don't think Nintendo needs to change what demographics they are catering for--they already have a wide range of games--but they definitely need to make their online experience better for everyone.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: DS Player for Wii.. would it make sense?
« on: February 04, 2007, 09:36:01 AM »
Yeah imagine this with games that use a combination of touch screen and buttons. That would be a pretty bad setup.

First, in order to deal with the DS' A/B/X/Y buttons, you would pretty much need to use a classic controller. True, the remote + Nunchuck could be used, but that would result in the buttons being scattered across two hands (A/B/X/Y becomes A/B/C/Z). So if I am playing New Super Mario Bros. with the Classic Controller, what do I do in order to touch the screen (to get an item)? I have to pick up the remote, aim it at the screen, and then select the item. Not the best situation.

Plus how would the Wii read the game cards?

Can't you just try it without the router? That is always a sure-fire way to detect a router problem.

General Chat is a FORUM for posting any topic you want, so instead of making an all encompassing thread just start new threads for each topic you want to discuss its easier that way.

Does not compute.
