General Gaming / RE:Sega Saturn score!
« on: February 22, 2007, 11:11:54 AM »
Thanks for the advice. My mom was able to pick up the system after work about 20 hours since I left the store yesterday. It will be the first Sega system that I owned. I plan to get a Genesis and Dreamcast eventually, but this just happened to be the first system that came my way.

For the record, I also scored a $4 NES Advantage there last night.

Surely someone has already found out what it is. If not, this announcement will certainly make people poke around until someone does.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:I hope "Secret Rings" doesn't suck...

I'll be waiting for that video, darkheart.

At least things are looking up for Sonic, for once. Hopefully sales will be good enough that Sega will recognize what customers are looking for. It might still be worse than the classics, but it certainly is a step. I would compare the Sonic the Hedgehog series to Nintendo in the console world. Nintendo has always turned profits, but they have decreased with each system. The Wii might be the first exception. Likewise, Sonic has always been relatively successful, but getting worse with each game. Secret Rings is the first exception.

MEGA BUMP!

I have the opportunity to get a Saturn + 2 controllers for $25. It is at a Goodwill, so it could get bought by the time I make a decision. Anyway, is this worth it?

I think he's got a lot of talent PHAIL left in him, but his parents should be grooming his successor.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Is Miyamoto Past His Prime?
« on: February 19, 2007, 09:50:18 AM »
This Wikipedia article is interesting. Mario Galaxy is his first time to take the director role since Ocarina of Time (1998) and Mario Artist (1999). For most of his games, he is credited as the producer, including classics like Super Mario World, A Link to the Past, and StarFox (SNES and 64).

So he technically still has as much influence over the design as he once did. The problem is either (a) he has lost his talent or (b) his talent is spread too thin. I believe it is the latter.

I think with Miyamoto's supervisor-type role, his natural talent is still evident, but spread thinner. I'm sure that every game he touches is made better by his support, but I would prefer that his efforts be concentrated into one game. I want to play a game like Super Mario Bros. 3 or A Link to the Past and be overwhelmed by its greatness.

Right now, Miyamoto works to make many games better, rather than make one game great. I would like to see that change.

Rarely are the developers the source of hype. In fact, the more information developers hold back, the more hype is used to fill in the gaps. Also, hype continues after a game is released as word-of-mouth spreads.

Personally, I don't avoid hyped games, but there are plenty of them that I haven't played. Specifically, those on PS2, Xbox (360), and the PC. Most of the games that receive hype on those systems are FPS, which isn't my favorite genre. (Sometimes it feels like I am the only one who doesn't like FPS games. Maybe I haven't found the right one.) I would say that I more-or-less am unswayed by hype. If a game doesn't interest me by its own merits, then I will not buy it.

Hmmm...lets see if this old machine still works. I think my presence on these forums is great enough that I deserve a title. Something that speaks to the hearts of all people, reminding them of the awesomeness that is MarioAllStar.

Until then, I would settle with "Weird and Wonderful". Thanks.

Actually, the Super Mario All-Stars version of SMB3 (SNES) is more like the Japanese original than the North American version of SMB3 (NES). Go to this page and search for instances of "All-Stars" for examples.

If they started dating, maybe these interviews would have more information.

You know, you are just begging to be called a duplicate account with things like this.

Also, new people aren't teased here because they are new. Forum members are teased or complained about if they have posts that don't meet a certain level of spelling/grammar/thoughtfullness. The people here are less tolerant of "bad" posts than other forums, but it results in a better forum overall.

Fun fact: You are rebelling against people like segagamer, but he receives a lot of flak from others about his spelling. He too is a "victim".

Now that I explained why this is unwarranted, I am totally in.

Has anyone confirmed that you can actually run out of channel space? I mean, we have all assumed that the 4th page is the limit, but maybe it is just the default. Maybe the Wii adds another page when you fill up the last. If it does not already do that, it really should.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Why didn't we get this on Christmas or New years?
« on: February 14, 2007, 01:33:26 PM »
I hope Nintendo updates the Wii to allow letters with templates/graphics. I know they can attach a picture, but that isn't enough. I want them to be able to send us graphics-heavy and fun-looking announcements directly to our systems. I remember that in an early screenshot there was an Animal Crossing letter. Something like that would make notices better.

I can personally recommend The Rats Collectibles. I bought a Game Boy Player from segagamer12 and the whole operation went smoothly. Really great deal, too.

It's good to see Matt bring up things like Virtual Console pricing and lack of original games. I know that Perrin doesn't have as much influence as, say, Iwata or Reggie but it is still good that he is speaking his mind.

Probably not. The fact that it works with a splitter cable means that it probably attaches to the Wii's RCA audio plugs, not your standard headphone jack (like on DS). You could buy some converters (or wires with different plugs), but it would be a pretty clunky setup. Plus switching between the Wii and the DS would require messing with the Wii's wiring every time.

If they release a made-for-DS transmitter and there is some easy way to switch between DS/Wii (optimally so that both can be running yet you only hear one), then it would work.
