um... nitsu, POK Erythroid Myeloid ONtogenic gene.  Same reason scientists don't care that AIDS is a verb synonymous with help.  I was hoping it was a joke all the same lines as KN.  Scientists do have senses of humor, but sadly it is generally centered around puns and other lower forms of humor like that.
BiL - there was a pokemon episode that caused seizures in Japan, that is what they are refering to here.

I admit I never played sands of time, but PoP 2 is tied with Turok for the worst game I ever bought - which means I found it unplayable.
vudu: Rolf totally smokes Shinon  What you'll find is that the more inexperienced they start off, the better they will be.  Potential GET!

Nintendo Gaming / IGN games of the year awards are out
« on: December 20, 2005, 07:18:15 AM »
They're out and I have to say I agree with most of it.  Might comment more later.
EDIT: They decided the best of [insert genre here] games.  I thought it was intersting because it was dominated by Nintendo and Capcom - and I want to say Capcom took more awards.  What does this say for Nintendo software?  Not anything necessarily b/c it was the year of RE4, but I want conflict!
DK JB is starting to finally come down in price so I might get to it soon.

Yeah Jon, that is why their standing is that painful to Nintendo purists.

Yeah, this is my first Fire Emblem ever and I played it on Hard mode my first go.  My bro played it simultaneously on normal.  There are some noticeable differences in the way bosses will fight you (in normal, they are practically retarded esp. the last one) but otherwise the regular enemies fight you the same.
Yeah, I really liked this game.  Beat Hard mode, now playing Fire Emblem: Sacred stones and looking for the elusive FE7 for a decent price.
EDIT:  Did Nintendo send anyone else that Fire Emblem survey?  I hope they are getting some answers that will lead to future FEs.

You guys have to remember that since Xbox360 is technically next gen, it isn't really 4 SC games in one generation.

I think Nintendo's ads are definitely getting better and they are distancing themselves from the stupid "Who are you?" campaign going with the GBA-like commercials for GCN.

Hmm, I didn't know royalties were the exclusive way the hardware company makes money.  Still unless Sony and MS agree to subsidize dev. costs, I don't see how 3rd parties could be satisfied with that game - increased expenditure with the same returns?  And of course the risk of your game flopping even if it isn't a piece of crap.

ToS had a 'special' 3D line system but all Tales games have active battles.  I'd assume if it is a 2D game, the battle system will be more like Phantasia's - and by that i mean identical but in strictly 2D space.

I wouldn't expect prices like that. MS themselves are pushing for 50$ prices and I doubt Sony would appreciate such pricing, either. Besides, games are as expensive as customers are willing to buy them and I doubt they could tell to people "look, Blu Ray is so expensive, our games are more expensive as a result".

MS may be pushing for $50 games but with the exception of inhouse titles, that was not a reality.  I'd imagine with HD graphics and increased development time, royalty-paying publishers want to ensure their games make a profit.
I actually see Sony as not discouraging this trend of games over 50 USD just because of their current debt and reports that they will be taking losses on the hardware.  How else could they profit?

Patents.  People even on these forums have found the 3D sensing patents.  As for a 3D visor, nobody wants that .

RE:  Bluray:  I'd imagine with Xbox360 games already pricing at 60 USD, the price of BluRay would be passed on to the consumer.  65+ USD would be a bad move, especially since the Revolution being able to come in around the same price.

As for Sony and the PS3, maybe they think that they can launch with a weak lineup like they did with the PS2, which is why companies like EA say they haven't gotten all the hardware they need yet, but Sony still says they'll launch in Spring.

They'll just launch with a weak to non-existant lineup and then wait for the games to show up later, the only downside is that the 360 is out this time and has games in its lineup.

Because Toshiba did do something to settle.  If you look at the linked article, you'll notice that Toshiba is working on both sides- both HD DVDs and BluRay.  I know that in the past though that they were exclusively on the side of HD DVDs.
Sony is stupid if they think they can launch with a weak lineup.  If EA, the biggest 3rd party publisher, can't get ready for a spring launch, Sony would be relying on inhouse (ha ha) titles.  That strategy wouldn't make sense because it would be in line with renewed shipments of the much hyped 360.

Could you consider Gamecube graphics terrible even by next gen standards, though? I think the answer is no  HC's point remains.

Jon, give her the choice of two positives - tell her that 1000 is acceptable for the main site but you were also thinking about linking in the forums for something like 1200 (or whatever).  Then ask whether she wants to do main site advertising or main along with forums that way a 'no' answer isn't really an option, especially if she already made an offer.

Momentum influences next gen sales, yes, but regardless of the Playstation 2 selling 80 million systems, how many systems has the PS3 sold?  Nintendo has proved that alienating 3rd parties can stop any accumulated momentum.  Using recent reports, I predict the same for Sony meaning this gen's market leader has little bearing on next gen.
