General Gaming / RE:Why Dont Arcades....
« on: December 15, 2003, 12:34:48 PM »
Thats not really the point of it manunited, its not meant to be an hour game.  Its just suppose to be a way to say enhance arcades because they really do suck right now, most.  Im not saying people would go to the mall or somthing just to play in the arcade, im sure most arcades would do better than they are now and would be more fun.  This is kind of off the way from anything else but what if it had some sort of juke box disc changer type of thing, like the old fashioned kind where you pick the record, but it would be a disc now and it goes down over the needle but a lazer now.  So basicly you could pick any game.  That would be pretty technical though, even if thats possible.  I can see people point of views right now but I think the majority of people must admit that if you had to pay a dollar for a 1-2 minute racing game that sucks or 1 dollar for a 10 minute game or so of a console game that is fun.. which one would they pick?

Also somthing that would be really cool as a permanent installment would be somthing like the dew den, anyone with g4 has seen it, it was about a month long place that was in the mall of america that was ran by mountain dew and it had all xbox game competitions, was really cool.  Somthing like that compared to a traditional arcade, what would you pick?

Ps- manunited funny sig

Really?  Every demo controller I ever used wasnt broken or anything.  Weird.  Plus dont forget that you can get the traditional joystick/button thing for ps2/xbox/gamecube.  Also how is the GBA three dollars?  Or do you just mean in general playing it?

That would be awsome, having it online, didnt they use to have competitions back in the 70's - 80's at arcades?  That would be pretty cool and would definetly generate alot of money being brought into arcades.

Why is it that alot of the games people are worried about the Edit- XBOX having are on PC also.  If there so worried just make there pc a little better so they can play them on it and still have the joy of GC games.  just my advice.

Edit- oops just read someones last end of a post I missed before and they said almost the exact same thing.  Sorry guys Another edit lol, sorry, as i said in another post im sick so im not really with it...

The picture isnt loading for me...   I think it would be cool if you could they harddrives that you put in a slot on the side of the system like a memory card is used now, that way if you have all your saved game data on it you can take it with you isntead oh luggign your whole system to a friends house and just plug it in his.  Ooh just re read the post and saw that it only works when his pc is online dang

I never said exclusive.  Atleest I dont think I did and I didnt mean to.   I still think arcades would do better if they had console games, yeah I get your point why play there when you can play at home for free.  Say your at the mall, bored, arent getting picked up for an hour.  Go spend three dollars at the game and you have an hours worth of play.   I still think that they would do better than current games that are at most arcades.  Atleest at the arcades around here the games suck, they are a little downgraded from dreamcast graphics and cost 1.00 dollar for a minute or two of play.  Ok, this would need a corporate company to be possible not just an arcade, but lets take sega for example, going back into arcade games or whatever.  Say my idea became popular, sega began producing arcade games for ps2, gamecube, xbox exclusive to arcades only.  They would be shorter than a normal game and not excelent graphics but decent mainly to keep the cost and time taken to produce the game down.

I agree with your last statement, at the closest mall to me every game but the 5 year old games cost a dollar mostly and if you dont get past enough points within 30 seconds-minute or enough time extensions on say a racing game your money is gone.

General Gaming / Why Dont Arcades....

Hearing of the recent news with sega, how some company wants them to focuss on arcade games this came to mind.  Why dont arcades use console systems as arcade games.  You know how they have the stands at say ebgames where you can play like a demo disc.  Why dont arcades use these but in a more arcade style casing with complete new games.  Say you have mario kart in, you get like 5 minutes of play for 50 cents, you play your 5 minutes, the cabnet the game is in has a timer, there is a countdown clock on the casing, 10, 9, 8, 7, etc you put two more coins in and it goes back up to 5.  Then if you dont it turns the system off.  Next person comes, 50 cents in, turns back on.  Think about it you could probably make a gaming system like that for 500 - 700 dollars compared to a 1000-2000 dollar arcade game that have bad graphics and stupid play.  You would get so many more people in arcades if they would do this.  Input anyone?

I like the ping pong one alot that would be pretty cool.   What would make it even cooler is if you could connect it to the internet and play ping pong against someone else.  I think any of the game ideas should veer away from those remote control type ones you just plug into the tv and play, like, snowboard, baseball, etc because there already made on things like that.  A really really cool game woul dbe a mechwarrior type game where your like in a mech and the control panel is in the mech and you can control everything with your hands.  That may be out of reach of the PS2 eyetoy ive never really done anything with it before besides looked at the box at a store.

General Gaming / RE: Console or PC??
« on: December 14, 2003, 04:42:16 PM »
Well, I guess it depends.  Theres no point in having a good pc and an xbox because alot of as far as I know xbox games that are any good are on the PC also.  The PC has alot of cool games and definetly when it comes to FPS its alot easier to aim.  As I said there is no reason to have a Gaming Pc and a xbox.  Ultimatly I would have to say PC because of the larger game variety, possible better graphics, easier online play.  The only downfall to the PC i think is that you cant really have 4 people playing at your house at the same time unless you have 4 pc's.  So I guess it really comes down to who you are, if you always have people over at your house, console.  If you prefer to be by yourself and play online with other people you dont really know, PC.  Wow sorry if this didnt make much sense i currently have the flu and am really sick so Im a little out of it.

It wasnt today it was last night at 8:30 and it was 18 million.  I find it sad that we really have nothing to hold him on yet he is a prisoneer.  He never did anything illegal.  No weapons no nothing.  Funny isnt it.  Sorry im really anti war and we had no business invading iraq in the first place.  And all who supported the war are sick, the war killed and injured 500,000 children. CHILDREN.  If thats not sick what is.  Also dont forget that the nuclear war leaves nuclear dusts, since 1991 i forget what war that was deformaties etc have gone up 600-700%.  Wow, im sure were really helping the people of iraq.  We should just leave the people of iraq alone they dont want us there, they want to have a free society and there own government.  Once again ill state, sudam never did anything illegal now did he, no. So what do we have to hold him on?

Wow, I never had a problem with my PS2 when it launched, it was always the new ones that sucked.  I know, 3 people that bought newer ps2's and they wont play the blue disks.  Does anyone know why they break?  Also, youc an pick up a new laser on ebay for pretty cheap.  Id suggest that, its probably cheaper than sending it to sony.

Thats not odd at all, is it just me or do all the new PS2's do this?  I use to have one and i bought it around 1-2 months after it was released and i never had a problem.  Everyone i know who gets one usually has trouble reading the blue backed disks.  Did sony put cheaper parts in the PS2 then at the launch?

Mac will rarely ever crash unlike windows.  The fee is really somthing alot of people are willing to pay, it is widely used for video editing etc.  Also, I lost the site Ill try to find it, but it showed the loading times for different programs and other things compared on a mac and a windows pc, mac blew away the windows pc.  And as I said games are coming out on the mac too.  So as soon as the price of mac comes down or the economy comes up and people can maybe afford mac's I do see a fall a large fall in microsoft.

Yeah the controller with fps is what drives me away from it.  I never knew you could use a usb mouse on the ps2.  That is pretty cool, still I'd rather just buy the pc verson of the game or somthing similar for it on the pc instead of paying 200 dollars for a console i might no enjoy.  The only game i really ever really enjoyed on PS2 were GTA and Dark Cloud, the other ones were ok.  I havnt looked at the games for awhile so i was hoping someone might bring one up that interests me.  Really making this thread makes me happier i chose a gamecube.    Thank you again for the input.  I am on the go fairly often, and playing a gameboy game just isnt the same when playing it on a tv screen haha.  One of the games for gba that looks really cool is the sims game.  Haha I dunno why it just does.  Anyway again thanks.  Im leaning towards getting a gba and gamcube games.

This just came to my mind but  a lot of newer tv's are going to be digital.  I was curious to the fact that on the next generation consoles if they will have features to work on the digital tv or if it will make no difference to games?  Sorry if this is just totally wrong im just curious

The fact alot of xbox games are available for the pc, well actually most of the good ones, makes me kind of ward away from it.  I dont really enjoy many RPG games.  I think I may go with what you said, thank you.  I appreciate the response.

That is really cool, if only they could figure out some way to make it rewritable in a sense, it could bring a whole new world to miniature handheld computers.  A palm pilot sized fill fledged pc.  That would be cool.  The only problem i see with this is cost.  Too bad the article didnt say how much the technology cost.  Its pretty cool, the only thing id hate about it is i leave disks laying around alot and if i layed one of these around i sure wouldnt be finding it.

I only read the first page, sorry too lazy.  But I use windows simply because i cant get red hat to install.  Im somewhat computer illiterate.  I like windows because of the game capabilities.  If i had the money i would infact purchase a new macintosh.  People say "oh they suck there only 1 ghz" if you look at tests everything runs and opens over double what the speed windows will do it.  Also macintosh is very secure unlike windows.  Also whoever said "money made on windows goes back into windows" what are you thinking?  The microsoft loses profit on every xbox they make.  The only reason the xbox was ever made was because microsoft was getting sued for all there monoplising (i know it had somthing to do with that) so they had to branch out.  Windows crashes alot, XP is better than other windows that have been made, yet its really unsecure.  There have been so many holes in it, if you havnt notices yet that usually these holes are known months before yet microsoft doesnt let you know.  Windows has screwed up big time on almost everything they have done, patch here, patch this, patch that.  Wow maybe windows is a little easier to use, but it sucks.  I assure you if macintosh was cheaper it would be very dominant.  Infact alot of the newer games are in fact on mac.  Also another reason for mac's not being so cheap is because they actually use good parts.  Unlike most store bought pc's.  Most pc's you will buy at the stores have cheap hardware in them and run windows, which is not a good combination.  5200 rpm hard drives etc.  Ok i kinda went off topic here but it comes back to windows.  Anyway, windows is already on its downfall, they were just fined or in the process of being fined 3 billion, yes billion dollars.  They are losing more money than they are making, A few years ago microsoft had 50 billion dollars and its down to 40 billion.  The government is already fed up with microsoft, the state of mass. has made there government open source only, somthing that windows is not.  Otheres are continueing to follow the trend.  Anyway i went really far off topic sorry!
