This is what happens when you sabotage your *exclusive* release with mention of a PS2 version to follow w/ bonus features.  This game might be selling alot hotter if everyone wasn't waiting for the PS2 version (which will be inferior visually).

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Videogames interacting with Real Life!!
« on: February 03, 2005, 11:54:23 AM »
you could also make Eye-Toy like games where you have much much more interactivity with the objects on the screen.

I don't think you would necessarily need 'an acre' of space to make a sizable game out of the stuff around you.  If they could incorporate a very good zoom and some very detailed miniatures
you could make some interesting terrain that could never be the same twice and easily manipulated during play.

But also think of the broadband connection between systems, you could play a RTS against me in
TYP's back yard, or a fighting game aginst Bill on his dresser. Playing Pikmin 3 in your moms garden.

The possibilites of what could be done with this tech and user interaction seem very interesting.
(I know the above examples seem a little gimmicky, they're just quick examples)
I'm not saying that this will make it into a next-gen machine, but I think its invlolvment into gaming could be "revolutionary"

Virtual object interacting with real life in real time - imagine gaming of the future

RTS set up with your backyard or livingroom as the terrain,
the surface area of your dresser/desk being a level for a Mario to complete/navigate
or you can play The Sims in your sisters Barbie house

http://sonix.sdv.fr:8080/ramgen/arte/tracks/20040603/immersion.rm

what do all of you think about this technology and its possibility to be used in a future console (i.e. Revolution)

remember this quote by Iwata - April 11, 2004 - Gamespy.com

Quote

"We are going in a different direction than Sony. We believe that other companies are already investing in state-of-the-art semiconductor development, says Iwata. "Nintendo is not actually trying to create a state-of-the-art technology that is not known to the world. We are reviewing technologies that are in the early stages of development [by other companies]. Nintendo should be able to find the optimal solution to make the best possible hardware by cooperating with several partners."

you forgot the most promising one
Holographic Versatile Disc or HVD

it reported to hold up to about 1TB (1terrabyte = 1024gigabytes)

Imagine this disc resized to GC size, it could still have 500gb on a tiny disc

or THIS disc from Hitachi - it holds 200gb.

shrunk to a 3" disc it could still hold 80-120 gb

And I doubt Nintendo would want to try to circumvent a license deal by helping out EA... so yeah, EA's screwed. Haha.

What has Take Two done for Nintendo lately?
Why wouldn't they help EA? They've been helping EA quite a bit lately, even if for self preservation reasons.

According to Gerhard Florin of EA in a recent articel on the BBC

Speculation on Next Generation

Simon Gardner - president of Climax's Action Studio
Quote

"We can thrown more polygons around and have better AI but if it doesn't make for a better game then that's not very useful."

At least Climax studio's gets the big picture, EA just wants their games to look more real, 'film quality'.

I believe we made the most beautiful thing in the world. Nobody would criticize a renowned architect's blueprint that the position of a gate is wrong. It's the same as that.

to Quote PC-Engine from B3D Forums

Heh it's not the position of the gate...it's the position of deadbolt that doesn't align with the hole on the frame therefore forcing you to push the gate harder in order for the lock to work.
