unless the higher I have my resolution on my monitor set, the smaller my game screen become....

640x480 = O -or- 1024x768 = o

that would suck

Yeah, it costs THEM 50 cents a console, it costs the game developers 4x the amount of work (in the art department at least)

Who said that the developers have to use the highest detail possible?  The games that are gonna be ported are already gonna be at the resolution, so why not just include it?  All exclusive developers, such as Nintendo, can use whatever resolution they see fit, but that doesn't mean that DeveloperX doesn't want to push the machine, and DeveloperX doesn't want to display at the highest resolution possibe regardless of the amount of extra work.

Nemo also mentioned this in another thread "PGC Forums" to which I already replied but, It appears that each square has a specific function, as can be seen by the little black bar at the bottom of each little square.  Which is also why you can see the controls on the screen before it is lit up.  You would have to find the correct window for the correct function and that is too much of a hassle.

As of right now I don't see any practicle function for any of this tech in its current form, but something that you didn't know, is that this video is from 2001.  Which means that we may be seeing something that came from this research in a  couple of years time.

Nintendo Handheld Discussion / New Gameboy and DS Camera?
« on: June 10, 2005, 12:43:10 PM »
I know everyone remembers the GB camera. cheap black & white camera that really had no use to anyone other that quick very low res pictures that you could print onto a sticker.

But now that we have the GB micro and the DS maybe it time to try out that camera idea again.  That would be one more thing that the DS or GBM could do that the PSP couldn't.  With DS you could even do picture editing.
I bring this up because of the soon to be released Play-Yan, that that is supposed to turn both GBM & DS into multi-media machines.
I also bring this up because it has just been pointed out to me that while the Play Yan uses SD cards, there are camera's that are built onto SD cards that store directly to the card, as seen >>HERE<<

I was wondering what do you think of the possibility of Nintendo making/liscensing one of these for use with their existing/future product line?  Picture taking on GBM/DS w/ Picture editing on DS, Video Capture & editing?, Video chat on DS, Picto chat with actual pictures? there are all kind of possibilities with this now....

what do yo guys think

p.s. sorry if this is not making as much sense as it should, @ work typing a little at a time, and I think alot faster than I type

for lazy asses like me - Sony Revolution <-- same link as post above

But I've seen that about a week or so ago on another forum, and while I wasn't sure what the practicle
application of this was, I was still very intrigued at the possibilities that might come from this.

someone also stated that this is from 2001, so this technology might be making its way into the mainstream in the near(not too near) future

This is from the latest issue of Business 2.0 June 2005, which has a 4 page article on CELL. Here are a few intresting quotes from the article.

Quote

Kutaragi, known for the bold stroke and the grand vision, swung for the fences from the get-go. "We want to do something that has never been done before," he told Davari and a group of IBMers at their first meeting. "let's work together to change the world." The movie The Matrix had just come out, and Kutaragi relished itspremise of a world that is actually a giant computer simulation "Think about creating a crude version of that world," he said, "where millions of people can play in a realistically rendered virtual Tokyo or New Yourk City as if they are really living there." Creating that magical realm, Kutaragi told the team, would require a chip 1,000 times as powerful as the one in the PlayStation 2. The IBMers tried not to roll their eyes. They tended to like all that Matrix stuff, but when it came to 1,000-fold chip boosts, they thought Kutaragi was out of his mind.
We all thought he was out of his mind, but now we know
Quote

Davari tapped to lead the project was Kahle...He had designed IBM's first dual core chip, the Power4, and was just coming off a project that produced the IBM chip that powers Apple's G5 computers. "I don't want to do the normal stuff," he says with a shrug. Normal obviously want what Kutaragi had in mind. Still, one of Kahle's first moves was to talk Kutaragi down from that fantasy of a 1,000-fold power increase. Kahle figured a goal of a 100- fold boost from one chip generation to the next, having rarely if ever been achieved in the history of semiconductors, was ambitious enough.
PS4 = 1000 x the power of PS2!!!!!  O_O
Kutaragi was incredibly demanding and repeatedly sent Kahle back to the drawing board. At one point about a year into the project, Kutaragi made the team scrap the whole system structure and start over nearly from scratch. Another time Kutaragi decided he wanted two more cores. Why? "He just wanted to squeeze the engineering team," expains Masakazu Suzuoki, Sony's top Cell engineer, wringing his hands as if strangling a snake. "it hurt your head," Kahle recalls. Making the pain worse: The team still had to deliver the chip on the original schedule.
But is Cell all its cracked up to be?  will Kutaragi see hes fantasy become reality this generation or even next?  was it all the the billions of dollars put into it?

Touch screen remote anyone?

Now that is somethign that I haven't thought of yet.  Imagine being able to not only use the DS as a touch screen remote, but also commanding the sub-menu's for the DVD player, such as sub-titles or surround sound on the second screen without it popping up on the main screen, disctracting other viewers from the movie experience.

Im sure someone else could flesh that out a little more...

well if you were able to split the controller in half (which i don't think will happen, but what do I know....?) then I guess that might make sense. But until thats known as possible, then I just don't see how it's gonna work.  I still think that 2 independent controllers may be a little too radical for the casual gamer and especially the non-gamer when it comes to handling the controller, as lots of gamers depend on one hand or the other to support the controller while the other hand does some specific task (such as mash a button as fast as possible, rotrate a joystick really fast or just reach the start button to pause the game), but its all speculation at this point so............

what about when you have to hit both drums....
lean the controller forward/back?

or clap into the microphone......
make clicking sounds by mouth?

or you have to do it all in a really fast sequence of movements.....
have a heart attack!!

I don't see it working out too well, even with a HUGE bottle of asprin around.

then we can throw the Rev controller on the ground and 'jump' on it repeatedly to play DDR Mario Mix?

how would the gyros emulate the bongos? I'm not seeing what you were thinking here.

I was sortof just throwing numbers out there, but I think I got my point across, as demonstrated by the actual numbers.

FY 2004 Sales Results (4/1/2004 - 3/31/2005)
PlayStation 2 - 40 titles, 7.3 million copies
GameCube - five titles, 2 million copies

Xbox - seven titles, 250,000 copies
Game Boy Advance - seven titles, 3.4 million copies
PC & Misc. - 11 titles, 400,000 copies

GC has 1/8 the games and sells more than a 1/4 as many copies.

Logic would have it that you would release more games for GC, as you are selling more copies per Title.  But rarely does Logic and Business Management ever meet (at least in my personal experiece)

BG&E is one of my favorites this generation for GC, which means it is one of the few games that I own (I own about 45+ games) that actually kept my attention long enough to actually finish the game. Not only did I finish the game but I wanted more at the end, I was mad that it was over.

So what if it was a little Zelda meets SFA meets Metroid, is that a bad thing?  I want a sequel.

or maybe they should save that for the Revolution marketing

a couple of things here

for one, if you have gyros in the controller is there a need for a light gun, especially if you are putting a cursor on the screen.................?

The Rev contoller will have buttons, unless you are calling Reggie a liar...........
(didn't he say something along the lines of "imagine a controller that can play all the games, old and new")

Didn't Iwata say that there would be downloadable demos in his latest interview?  I'm pretty sure he did.

Iwata also discussed the Revolution's internal 512MB flash memory, which he said will be used for saving game data, downloading virtual console games, and for "expansion of the Revolution's capabilities." He didn't go into specifics regarding its connectivity to the DS, though he confirmed that users will be able to download demos for the handheld at home.

here is a site that supposedly keeps track of U.K. & Euro #'s

I found this link in this very thread!!!  Who woulda thunk??

22424
I saw on another forum (GAF i think) where they did a Capcom titles/sales comparison between PS2 & GC

it was kinda ridiculous(going from memory here, as I can't check GAF from work, IP banned for some reason)

PS2 = 40 titles to 13million sales
GC = 4-7 titles to 6million sales

I have no facts behind those #'s, take them as you will

22425
It has been mentioned in another thread
Look for ShyGuy's post

but thats ok, maybe it could use its own thread.

It sucks that Capcom's GC sales sabotage didn't work out so well, well better luck next time.......
