TalkBack / RE:REVIEWS: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
« on: January 13, 2007, 11:31:47 AM »
After having beat it on the Wii I can not possibly imagine playing this game on a cube controller.... Just the pointing function alone is fantastic.  I would say that it's worth it to trade in your cube version when you get a Wii, because honestly being able to point where you want to shoot arrows/slingshot/clawshot is completely worth it.  Gesturing the wiimote to swing the sword is perfectly responsive and the item inventory is just about the coolest one I've ever seen in any game, so basically I would say that this review misses the mark.  But that's just me.

Or, you know.  Not.  Since I don't have the game.  Since there's not a single Wii available within 100 miles of Seattle.

damnit.

TalkBack / RE:Wii and Virtual Console Launch Line-Up Revealed
« on: October 31, 2006, 07:42:38 PM »
I was under the impression that Metroid Prime 3 was a launch title, and yet it does not appear on this list.  Was it delayed?  It's not like I could possibly afford a Wii, Zelda, AND Metroid.  $300 is quiet enough money to spend in one day.

I still think they could have added Wii functionality in software to a Gamecube centric disc, much in the way that the Zelda Oracle series detected it when you played the game on a GBA instead of a Gameboy Color.  But they didn't, so we'll deal.

Regardless, considering how fantastically awesome Wind Waker was, if all TP turns out to be is a longer version of WW with more dungeons and Ocarina stylization, I'll still be completely overjoyed.

As one of the few thousand people or so who actually played TP at (the last real) E3, I can say with complete confidence that as long as the Wii has sensitivity settings, we should be looking at the finest Zelda game since Ocarina of Time.

I wonder if he is willing to bet on that. We could start a pool.  Personally I'd put my money on the Wii retailing for $249.99.

I think people should buy as many consoles as they can afford,  so they can be sure play any game that catches their eye.  So, obviously, buying a 360 and a Wii is better than just buying a PS3, but I can really only afford a Wii at this point, anyway.

Also assuming that the Wii would support a particular video format (the server could dynamically re-encode it into whatever the Wii recognizes.

It was also be very easy to make a Web-based Media-Center, effectively making the Wii into a media center... assuming one knows enough javascript and perl (or AJAX or something).  Heck, something like this may allready exist.

TalkBack / RE:RUMORS: Wii to be $149 on October 2nd?
« on: June 04, 2006, 09:12:48 PM »
Until we have a real pricepoint and date, I'm going on the assumption of $249.99 on Black Friday, though I am hoping it's only $199. $149 is ridiculous, there's no way Nintendo would feel the need to do that against $299 and $399 consoles, especially after E3 proved there's interest in the product allready.

You guys are evil for inflicting that crap on the ad-prone.  Just so you know.

TalkBack / RE:Thirty DS Titles at E3
« on: April 09, 2004, 03:05:00 PM »
If one of those is a Zelda title, I will buy this system at launch.

I might do so anyway even if there isn't a Zelda title.  But that just depends.  But my buying this system is unquestionable as soon as Zelda is put in the mix.

That is the worst press release of all time.  I hate the 80's so much.

But I'm still buying the Zelda cart.  Of course.

TalkBack / Annual E3 Award Nominees Announced
« on: May 27, 2003, 12:50:54 PM »
Well, Nintendo failed to have the bang it had the last two years.  I mean, last year there was Metroid and Zelda and Mario.  This year all we have really in that department is Mario Kart.  Granted, next year we'll have Mario 128, and if it's half as good as the subtle hype that it's allready getting, then it will dominate next year's show, especially if Nintendo is smart and keeps everything tight and secret until like, the second day of E3 2004.

Nintendo is also not conviencing people about Connectivity.  FF:CC is the only game that I've heard of so far that peopel were geniunly excited by the GBA funtionality, instead of it feeling like a gimmick.

And what's with all the FPS sequels?  Halo 2, Half Life 2.  It's a little odd...  Even Nintendo whipped out with a FPS (geist).  Hrm.

TalkBack / Aonuma Confirms Wind Waker Sequel
« on: May 24, 2003, 05:45:56 PM »
Allright... But you have to wonder why this wasn't announced at E3, at least with some vague alpha screenshots.  However, I'm absolutely inthralled.  Wind Waker, while not leaving much open in the way of Hyrule, certainly left room for a sequel.

Granted, there will be hell to pay if Zelda is permantently turned into a Cel-Shaded franchise.  After playing WW I see why they did it, and I think it was probably a good idea.  Also a direct sequel should obviously be simular in style, but whenever the next Zelda comes out, probably for the 5th gen race, I'm kind of hoping to see a darker, edgier title.  See the way I see it Zelda games really come in two styles, Light and Dark.  Light titles would be Zelda 1, Zelda 3 LttP, the GB zeldas, and Wind Waker.  The Dark titles would be Zelda 2, Zelda OoT, and Majora's Mask.  Before wind waker there never was a light 3D Zelda, so the Cel-Shading thing was a good thing to introduce, but I'd love to see the dark, grungier style in OoT revisited on more advanced hardware.  The series obviously has room for both.

TalkBack / Enter the Matrix Sells Like Hotcakes
« on: May 23, 2003, 07:16:54 PM »
Matrix Reloaded absolutely OWNED.  It was nearly as good as the first one.  The action was certainly a lot better, though the plot was a bit less phenominal.

Dealing with the game... Way too many mixed reviews on this one.  I'll buy it when it's cheaper, but I need to pick it up eventually if only for the extra movie footage.

TalkBack / Iwata Discusses Online Plans
« on: May 21, 2003, 10:30:14 AM »
I've actually heard some pretty strong rumors that Nintendo contacted Gamespy or whoever did the tunneling thing for Xbox and asked for simular software.  And that they were definatly designing something like that, except without the whole tunneling thing.  From what I understand it would work a lot like most PC games work, in that you would have a gamecube being the server, and you would connect to other (read: your friends) gamecubes by typing in the IP or maybe by searching a central database.  This would mean that Nintendo could provide Online play to those who want (and it would be really easy to make it compatable with games designed for LAN) without having to incur massive bandwidth and thus be forced to charge for it.

TalkBack / Mario Kart on GameCube Details
« on: April 23, 2003, 08:58:18 AM »
Who.  This is great.  I'm not a big mario kart fan, but this is definatly the new party game for GCN.  Lan play is the greatest idea... Because it's in every way better than internet play.  No lag, and you aren't playing with stupid people who think they're "l33t".

And any cooperative play, in anything, is almost alway good.

TalkBack / Watch Movies On GBA
« on: April 21, 2003, 08:05:56 PM »
...  not really a cheap MP3 player.  I mean, they've got a $40 MP3/CD player at Walmart... and that can hold a lot more than a SD card can.

Where's my SD-GCN adapter?  Did they replace it with this?  Craptastic.  I wanted to copy saves and stuff to my hard drive, and have extra content and stuff

...Like how you can burn MP3's onto your Xbox and have them as sound tracks in a game?  You could do that with a SD card on the GCN if they did it right.  Plus if the card died you could replace it for a lot cheaper than a new console.

TalkBack / Metroid Prime 2 Poll at Nintendo.com
« on: April 08, 2003, 10:10:55 PM »
NO!  DO NOT REMOVE THE LOCK ON!

That would completely ruin the game and make it another mindless FPS.  We don't need another mindless FPS.

Metroid Prime is so great because it's not a first person shooter, but rather a first person adventure.   The emphisis being not on the shooting, but rather the puzzles, exploration, and plot.  If you remove the lock on feature, it's liable to just become another fragfest.  I mean... Imagine trying to play 3D Zelda without a lock-on.

TalkBack / Metroid Prime 2 Poll at Nintendo.com
« on: April 08, 2003, 09:49:18 PM »
I agree.  Multiplayer Metroid is just wrong on so many different levels.  2D-Metroid can be done on the GBA just fine (especially with the GBA player coming out soon).  I really am quite a fan of the connectivity thing, but it's not nearly as important as real gameplay.  Hard Mode was great.   MP2 should have, like, "Harder Mode" .  Something that's nearly impossible.

And yes, please, make it longer.  MP was pretty long compared to most of today's games, but then again when you've got Nintendo releasing 10 hr. games (coughtPIKMINcough) then there's something wrong.
